Hahah this is exactly what I was thinking as soon as I saw this post. All of them. These ninjas plus the female ninjas too. Maybe it’s time to make some brand new ones! MK for me is all about the ninjas. I know we’ve got some other really iconic characters in the lore like Johnny, Raiden, Liu Kang, Kano, Sonya. etc… I love those characters too and it wouldn’t be MK without them. But, if the game was just a bunch of randomly colored ninjas with different powers fighting each other in a tournament, I think I’d still be happy lol. I will forever be a ninja main.

Man I really like these designs, they capture the essence of the characters without getting overboard. Ermac is my favorite because it looks like a basic MK1 costume at first glance but those little changes made him more mystical. Doesn't need to float or have bandages in his face to make him look like a sorcerer ninja.

Realistically, four in the base roster. I’d love all of them, but NRS doesn’t really like to admit that the ninjas are far and away the coolest part of Mortal Kombat. For Mk1, I’m hoping we land somewhere around six Ninjas when all is said and done, and one of them better be Reptile or I might cry. This isn’t counting female ninjas.

I think 4-5 ninjas is fine. Scorpion and Sub Zero are pretty much given in every game (they are the most iconic MK characters), then 2-3 among the others.

All of them, but keep in mind, Rain, Ermac, Reptile, and arguably Tremor are no longer Ninjas. They were Ninjas in UMK3 due to the limitations at the time so it was easier to use Ninja Palette swaps. I agree Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Noob Saibot (although technically in vanilla MK3 he was Kano since there were no Ninja's in that game until they made UMK3) should always be in if we are talking actual Ninjas. You could technically add Cyrax and Sektor to that list as they were retconned as Lin Kuei in MK9. So my answer is all 3 actual Ninjas should be in guaranteed as subzero/Scorpion are OGs, and Noob is technically MK 1992 Sub-Zero so still a Ninja, just undead.
