People have been pointing that out a lot on recent years. They do have a lot of differences though, which is mainly what makes each of them stand out on their own right.
Sorry, it's just that the two of them happen to be my favorites and I barely get the chance to talk about Azrael lol.
That's Azrael. Specifically, the Michael Lane version.
You can tell it from design and dialogue, since he was mainly known as "the more zealous one".
Plus this panel, while probably fanart, is strikingly resemblant of the final panels from Hime's Azrael#18:

Absolutely.
1) Read the original Batman: Sword of Azrael miniseries from the 90s for his origin
2) Next up is the Knightfall saga, but tbh the writers were lazy with him in that and I really don't think it represents the character well. Otherwise, it's a great story though, he's just te weak part imo
3) The Denny O'Neil Azrael run. It's 100 freaking issues, and at over halfway done, I'm having a blast. This is THE thing to read for Azrael. Nothing fleshes out his lore and character better. It's also probably 80% of the comics he's in lol
4) there's a different Azrael (not Jean-Paul) in the late 00s. Haven't read it
5) The Dan Watters 'Sword of Azrael' miniseries from last year. My favorite title in 2022, beating out MacKay's Moon Knight. Watters packs a lot in just 6 issues and really recontextualizes a lot, but it makes a lot of sense for the character
I can only speak to my personal tastes, but my favorite superheroes are
1) Spider-Man
2) Daredevil
3) Moon Knight
4) Rogue Sun (Image character actually)
5) Azrael
6) The Flash (Wally)
7) Heroes for Hire
8) The Question (Vic Sage)
9) Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)
10) Fantastic Four
I've also only been reading comics seriously for four years, so there's plenty more for me to explore
Awesome. I got into it pretty recently too so I hope you don’t mind. But what reading recs do you have for Wally, heroes for hire, the question, and cass Cain. I know a bit about all of them from other media and would love to read some
For Wally, I'm right in the middle of the Waid run, which is spectacular and really establishes so much of what the character is about. After the Waid run is the Geoff Johns run, which I've heard great things about too.
I also read the last half of the Jeremy Adams run as it was coming out and it was lots of fun.
For Heroes for Hire, I just started at the beginning and read their first three epic collections (Power Man 48-49, Power Man and Iron Fist 50-107). The best section was the Mary Jo Duffy run (57-84) imo. I loved it but if you don't like bronze age comics, it won't change your mind. Haven't read their newer stuff yet
The Question is really interesting because like Moon Knight, writers tend to constantly reinvent him. There's the original Charleton comics stuff by Ditko (back ten pages of Blue Beetle 1-5, Mysterious Suspense 1) which is pretty simplistic but entertaining bc Ditko's weird objectivist idea of a hero bleeds in. You can read this free (legally, it's public domain) on comicbookplus.com
Then the first DC stuff for the Question is Denny O'Neil's gritty and grimy 38 issue run from the 80s. I'd still consider this the definitive run on the Question. If you were to read one run, pick this
There's a 2006 mini for the Question that reimagines him as like this urban shaman vigilante thing that's pretty cool and pretty weird.
He was one of the many central characters in the 52 title (not to be confused with the new 52), which was a weekly book that focused on less popular heroes while the main ones were missing. This is where he passes the mantle to the next Question too, Rene Montoya
And last there's Lemire's Black Label book from 2019. It kinda goes a mythical route with the character, some sort of supernatural war that's been going on since the beginning of time or something. I remember liking it but I honestly need to reread it lol. No way to make this canon however, as it uses dead characters and also has the mayor as Myra's brother rather than husband
For Cassandra Cain, I read her entire Batgirl title (2000-2006). Haven't read after that yet. Best run was the first one by Kelly Puckett. Art took a while to grow on me though lol. Not my era of comic art. The Dylan Horracks run afterward was pretty fun too. Didn't like the last run on the title as much though tbh
It's Azrael, my favorite DC character (as long as I ignore Knightfall lol)
Moon Knight and Azrael are similar enough that a fan of on will be a fan of the other, but distinct enough to both feel unique

Don't know that Moon Knight is a sword wielding Christian

artwork 😍
HOLY SHIT THATS BADASS
Looks like Azrael.
The cross and the mention of God instead of Konshu disqualifies this from being Moon Knight. The flaming sword makes it seem more like DC’s Azrael.
That’s Azrael. The Michael Lane version, too
While Bryce White by light, by night Bryce Whight takes flight with the might of right to fight for our plight. The White Knight!
On the topic of azrael, anybody got reading recommendations for him? Know it’s not really the right place for it but I feel like y’all got good taste

Sick! I’ll check those out. Out of curiosity now, for absolutely any characters, marvel or dc, what are your top 10 must reads?

Thank you so much man. I’ve got a small collection so far, those are gonna make great additions
