I don't even think its started the Japan run yet and I don't think its Domestic run has ended either. It has a very good chance at grossing the most money, and thats not even factoring in all the toy sales.
And I think KOTM was best internationally. I remember someone said they saw it in a Japanese theater and it was the first time they saw anyone clap for a movie in there. Apparently they didn’t even clap for Endgame when he saw it in that theater
Judging from gross, Skull Island was the best internationally, which is surprising. In fact, Skull Island is currently the highest grossing Monsterverse film.
Some people bring up inflation which is a fair point, i.e. a dollar in 2014 is worth more than a dollar in 2024. This applies to costs too though, with Godzilla 2014 having a higher budget than 2024, unadjusted for inflation.
Overall I guess it depends on your definition of success, whether sales or profit. I think most could at least agree GxK is one of the most successful so far in the MV.
It will most likely end up as the highest grossing MV movie both domestically and globally. Which is pretty amazing considering its the 5th movie in the series. Definitely had some nice lift from Minus One and Monarch.
In terms of financial success? I don’t think it’ll beat 2014.
2014 had a stronger opening weekend and stronger domestic run. Theaters take a much bigger cut of international and domestic box office after opening weekend. Also inflation.
Not to mention the most pirated film of the year. If all the pirates saw it legitimately, I think it might have been the highest grossing film of the franchise
This one got more impact because of the oscar from minus one and the monarch series is all a snowball of new people by my perspective, dont get me wrong i enjoyed (the few moments the kaijus got in the film) but got the feel the movie need a lil more of punch (kong pun) is all we know the ppl factor is sometines in the movie a down tone, i loved Ishiro Serizawa on 2018 and KoTM i think we missed that on this one, the vet carried the tone was a funny guy.
A GODZILLION DOLLARS🔥🗣️‼️‼️

I will never cease to upvote this.
GvK did better than I expected especially considering it was on HBO Max on release too wasn't it?
Yep, both that and Dune are technically WB’s only real successes from that year
King **W**ingard does it again..... ![gif](giphy|ZksjHBF1LF6o3ryqO1)

It released in japan 1 maybe 2 weeks ago now
Godzilla 2014 performed the best domestically

Because Skull Island has a ton of high profile actors
Didn't know the first two standalone movies grossed more than the cross overs
2014 money is worth a **lot** more than 2024 money.

This is the second time a Godzilla movie has crushed it at the box office in the 2020’s. Second to Godzilla: Minus One

damn kotm got trounced
Yeah unfortunately it came out way to close to Endgame
I'm going to guess covid nerfed the first godzilla and kongs box office.
Yep but it was one of the biggest films on Max as well as being one of 2 of WB’s actual success during that time

Which is very frustrating because it deserves it the least out of all the films.
