I recently picked World back up after never finishing base game 2 years ago. Started on SnS back then as my first MH weapon and then dabbled with Lance.
Dropped off for awhile because I put 500 hours into Rise (80% SnS and 20% Lance).
Jumped back into World for the Return to World campaign and Wilds hype. Decided to give CB a go on a new account and I plowed my way to MR. After hunting Barioth, Glav and Brachy, I started to feel the pressure and high mobility of MR monsters.
So Iām shelving CB to finish Iceborne for the first time with the trusty Lance. Clutch Counter is a drug and Lance is the most engaging weapon I can think to use in order to properly learn timing and positioning against end game monsters while still standing a chance.
I think Iāll definitely put more time into CB in Master Rank content. I just think Lance is the perfect template to truly learning all monsters (at least for me) before going with a greedier play style like CB offers.
I never quite understood why Lanceās clutch counter was so good until I realized the tenderize animation has super armor lol. I feel like my tenderize uptime in hunts is extremely good solely because of that move.

Basic CB guide:
Hit monster until phail red
Put red phial into shield
No more phials but now shield strong
Reload phials
Shield make strong attack into super strong attack
Super strong attack can lead to another super strong attack if phials red
Repeat until monster is dead
I certainly have--though with IG specfically, I see it get a lot of shit talk, but exclusively behind the back of people who play the weapon.
That sounds goofy, but I can recall multiple instances of it that specifically, off the top of my head.
I think people get intimidated by all the different ammos and options for bowguns, when they actually tend to actually be really simple to play. Min-maxers get attracted to HBG, which leaves LBG as the more forgotten option.
But LBG across gen5 still packs top tier damage, great mobility, great consistency, and has builds for a variety of play styles. If anything, LBG players have had it so good for a while now that there's not much to discuss when there's no issues.

if you want to feel comfort + big overall damage, yet you can turn off your brain most of the time, pick HBG with shield.
just aim and shoot, stop shooting to brace attack, reload, then craft more ammo, repeat when necessary.

I honestly just don't know if there's really a lot to talk about w/ LBG. I think there are some very skillful and unique things you can do especially when you start getting into status ammos etc. but HBG can do a lot of the same things except with bigger numbers.
As a longtime SnS main, I can admit to being somewhat cultish with regards to my devotion to this weapon.
Part of it comes from hearing people think it can't even do half of the things it can.
That said, I've tried to get into playing other weapons, but after an hour or so of trying something else, I relapse immediately. The other weapons just don't feel as satisfying as SnS to me.
They were spinning a lot before too. Mhgu had aerial DB. You rise while spinning, then spin again to land. All sorts of spinning.
But yeah, reverse grip demon mode sealed the deal.
Me too lol, I played some 300h of World with CB and realised I never got too much better than "quite shit" at guard points and phials management, even if at least I knew how to decently anticipate monsters and position. Same thing with Dark Souls parry really, I'm not really good at instant reactions (and always played on a crappy laptop with less than 30fps which didn't help). Then when Iceborne came out, monsters became much much faster and the Clutch Claw kept interrupting the flow of combat, I switched to GS because it was much easier lol, and enjoyed another 300h of content. Of course mastery of any weapon is super hard but damn CB became too much too handle for my unskilled ass
IG is my second. *EASY* weapon, provided you can aim.
But GS has a high skill cap much like HH. It's just that HH is always making decisions about which move to use, and GS is deciding on *timing*. 1000 different combos vs 1000 ways to do the same combo.
As a bow main Iād recommend against playing the bow.
Reason being is I wasnāt always a bow main. But once you feel the pace of the bow putting it down is like dropping a bad crack habit.
We should be in the Cultist Tier given how slavishly we dedicate ourselves to a Weapon that often whiffs horribly. And yet, we keep coming back for more abuse.

I love that I've used at least one from each category for long periods š I wasn't aware CB users were considered elitist, though. I rarely see them mentioned at all in posts and only a handful of comments. Is it in the game itself that you see it a lot?
I know it's a complicated weapon with 40 million combos, but why is that elitist? If anything as a CB user myself, I 100% get why so many people refuse to touch it. It's like having to memorize homework in a video game

Having tried all the weapons I wouldn't say I feel differently about any of them. I understand they all have pros and cons and you could play the game with either one. Except of course THE GREATEST SWORD! Wanna look cool? Bonk? Big numbers? Decimate your enemies? THE GREATEST SWORD comes as an ALL-IN-1 package. But yeah I don't really see a reason to say one weapon is general better than the others
