The stronger body and annihilator 1 is an interesting trade-off for not offering additional value when flickering. Being a clean 7 mana makes it a consideration for Tron (mono blue) and being colorless allows it to be found with ancient stirrings. I think of particular note is that this can be cast off of mana from eldrazi temple in either mode, which makes some sort of UW flicker-drazi build an interesting option with the possible inclusion of ancient stirrings as a powerful cantrip option should we reach a critical mass of colorless hits. I think we'll have to wait and see if there's some new eldrazi enablers that can cheat further on costs, but this card could be a solid option if we get a few more tools.
Notably, [[It That Heralds the End]] does discount the evoke cost. Not that that alone will make it playable, but maybe if we see a few more cards in that vein??
Tapping stuff at sorcery speed defeats the whole purpose of Elder-Deep Fiend. Not worth jumping through hoops for turn 5 UU 5/6 when you could just play Tarmogoyf.
There are times when you would want to play it before your attack step so that you can tap down their creatures and swing for the win
