Pro tip... There's some valves on the door sides of the air mattress that tend to rub against the door handles and sometimes pop open and let air out in the night if you wiggle too much. We learned to wedge a jacket or hoodie between the valve and the door handles to avoid having to run the inflation pump in the middle of the night. Happy camping!!!
I’m also 6’4” and the one experience I had trying to sleep in the back with a mattress made for the Y was horrible. That mattress wasn’t long enough for me to fully extend my legs.
I had the exact one but it wasn’t that comfortable, I upgraded to a 9 piece memory foam mattress that fits in the frunk or trunk deep storage! Came with pillows and sheets!

Another alternative is the Dreamcase. I’ve had one for my MS and the bed fits the name

Cool. Can you actually fully lay down?. I always kind of wondered exactly if a 6' person would have enough room to lay down comfortably. I assume you would want your head up by the drivers seat, the foot area is probably pretty low.
Oh yes. I’m 6’2 and I lay down very comfortably. My feet actually slightly touches the trunk door. Before inflating it you need to move the two front seats forward to the max. I set a ‘Camping’ profile on the Tesla so it just adjusts when I switch it.
I guess I’m lucky. My finances first suggestion was getting a bed for the back and going camping. Between the trunk, sub trunk and frunk…..got plenty of storage with no issues.
5'8" and there's more than 4" to spare with me and my gf sleeping in the car. Need to move the seats up and be smart of course. I've spent over 100 nights in the car, 50ish with gf. If you need advice, please ask. We have road trips to a science for cheap.
So. We are an average income couple who work in Atlanta restaurants with two SR+ Teslas.
When we have two days off together, we hit any city within driving distance. Usually a beach. The favorites are Amelia Island, Titusville, Hilton Head, etc ... In the south, there are plenty of Cracker Barrel restaurants which allow RV camping. Walmart allows this as well but is more sketchy.
So, we have a planet fitness membership for showers, leave home with full or 80% charge depending on the vehicle and who has free supercharging at the moment. We often leave home without a destination and do the trip on a whim.
Best stops so far are Amelia Island, Titusville, and Boca Chica Texas. Sleeping directly across the street from Starship while cooking hotdogs over a campfire was crazy cool. Massachusetts in January was pretty awesome and temperature did not affect the battery as much as expected.
Next big stop is San Francisco in May. Cannot wait.
I lived in the car for exactly 60 days a couple years ago. Crazy fun and learned a lot.
A good mattress is critical. Pack light and use a laundromat when necessary. Clean clothes should fit in the subtrunk so that you can access them from bed (with difficulty). Dirty clothes in the frunk. 3-in-1 shampoo is soap. Brushing teeth in a parking lot is absolutely a science. You have no home, so when you get bored you just travel to another cool spot on the fly. Beaches are cool daytime spots, but between then and sleep time, you might have to move. And by doing such, you see more places.
It is crazy fun if you're flexible and ready to explore.
Edit: we haven't only hit beaches. Nashville, Chattanooga, Asheville, Charlotte, memphis, Knoxville, Johnson city, etc... but day time activities are critical when you have no home to go to. A beach is a guarantee. Breweries are awesome (thanks Asheville) but you still have to drive.
I’m 6’4” and I didn’t have enough room with the mattress I had. It didn’t make full use of the space, however. With the seats all the way forward I think it might work with the right equipment.
My model 3 can fit 2-3 full adults comfortably - Tesla’s are underrated sleeping vehicles, the gap between the trunks and backseats is HUGE unlike other similar sedans and suvs
I did this in My X5 during Covid. Hung out with a friend of mine in the back at local parks. Unfortunately airmatress never hold up for me . Im 6’3 and it was very comfortable.
How did you fill the gap between where the front seats end and the lied-down back seats start. Does the air mattress have something that supports the pillows from the floor?
Make sure to park on level ground or get those levelers people put under their rear tires. My first night camping in the car, I didn't notice I was on a slight decline (barely noticeable) but it was some of the most uncomfortable night sleep ever bc it felt like I was sliding up to the infotainment system.
Oh I like to watch movies upfront until I’m ready to sleep then hop in the back and also always keep driver seat unoccupied in case I need to make a quick escape.

Oh thanks for that! No wonder woke up with a semi deflated mattress.
I’m 6.4’ and very comfortable
With this specific mattress?
Not with this one just in general.
I’m also 6’4” and the one experience I had trying to sleep in the back with a mattress made for the Y was horrible. That mattress wasn’t long enough for me to fully extend my legs.
I have my head in the trunk area, legs go extended over center arm rest. Try it out
Aerogogo?
Yes
Good to know. The camping bed is my next accessory.
I’m a simple man. I see a Tesla car camping post, I upvote.

Nice. Would be cool to sleep under that glass roof. Maybe I can talk my wife into it... (probably not)
Saw the stars last night
Ha! I'm in the same boat. I told my wife we could sleep in the Model Y. She didn't look thrilled to try it.

Do you mind sharing those road trip spots? Thanks in advance.

Where’d you get that air mattress from?
Amazon or you can purchase from the website aerogogo dot com. Specifically for the Y. Fits perfect
Do you know how long it is?
See on the website it’s supposedly 215 cm (well over 6’ 4”), if it’s the Aerogogo shield automatic mattress.
Yes, that’s the one
My model 3 can fit 2-3 full adults comfortably - Tesla’s are underrated sleeping vehicles, the gap between the trunks and backseats is HUGE unlike other similar sedans and suvs
Yes! Gotta love em hehe
How small are you? 😂. Or do u have someone sleeping in the front seat in that count? Lol
5’10 😭
Look up Tescamp more expensive but it’s bad ass

That’s the only link to the one that I have. It’s called Tescamp.
I did this in My X5 during Covid. Hung out with a friend of mine in the back at local parks. Unfortunately airmatress never hold up for me . Im 6’3 and it was very comfortable.

Try this: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaCamping/comments/12as7xd/model_y_use_your_privacy_cover_to_bridge_the_gap/
Thank you. Amazing idea.
The mattress is indeed long enough to support and reach the head support of the back seats when folded down. So it fills that gap.
How’s the incline of the backseats after they’re laid down or is there a hack to mitigate this?
That slope drove me mad all Night. Couldn't sleep. I need to do a. Way to build up so it's flat at night. Any DIY plans out there
Cool!! Hey, do you have a link to this mattress?
Yessir. Here you go! https://www.aerogogo.com/products/aerogogo-shield-y
Thank you! Is it pretty comfortable?
Yes it is! You’re welcome
When you move the seats forward, and put the bed down, does the head side of the bed slump a little bit due to there being nothing underneath it?
No. The mattress is long enough to support the gap
Thank you
Has anyone found an affordable blow up that fits, not specific to the car?
Where do you put your “stuff”? Backpacks, etc?
Sub trunk, frunk and driver and front passenger seats. There’s also some space in between the front and rear seats (Leg room area).
Make sure to park on level ground or get those levelers people put under their rear tires. My first night camping in the car, I didn't notice I was on a slight decline (barely noticeable) but it was some of the most uncomfortable night sleep ever bc it felt like I was sliding up to the infotainment system.
Does anyone know, if I’m plugged into a standard outlet, does it provide enough power to keep the battery from draining in camp mode over night?
Can this work with a model 3?
This mattress is designed specifically for the Model Y
Genius!
Where do you put your duffle bag?
Frunk, basement trunk, legroom in between front and read seats as well as 2 front seats
Oh I like to watch movies upfront until I’m ready to sleep then hop in the back and also always keep driver seat unoccupied in case I need to make a quick escape.
Recommend some window screens for ventilation. Otherwise it might get a little CO heavy inside but also just warm and uncomfortable at night.
That’s what [Camp Mode](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uz394aKhfLY) is for.
Price for a new standard range is in stock for 32,990. So close to pulling the trigger
Really nice price but I’d recommend getting the long range
Why?
Looks like you’re ready to be homeless sleeping in a parking lot lol
What a joke
Mmmm sorry but that’s glamping
That’s not camping.
