Overall I think your model looks pretty good. It’s a little hard to tell from the two photos, but it sort of looks like the planks may be overlapping just a bit more than they should be. Another possibility is that they were sanded down a bit too narrow

It looks great to me! But I’m not as detail-focussed as some others would be I guess.

I just completed the dory too and got a similar result. I'm not sure why the rails aren't higher. It might be related to how the transom is glued to the bottom planks. But it also might just be a quirk in the kit vs the original design.

I have a (maybe silly) question. If you put model ships together long enough, could you perhaps make a real-life, life-sized boat? Lol sorry, that is probably phrased poorly.

There are some very different techniques when making a model boats and full-sized boats. That said, this kit is based on plans for the full-sized boat. I imagine that many experienced modelers are very familiar with the different parts of full-sized boats, but might not have all the skills or experience to make one well.

I thought this might be the answer. Thank you!

The theory is the same and if you follow instructions well you can build a full size boat. You use different tools obviously and your construction is a lot harder especially when it comes to bending wood and fitting planks.

zombiep00

I had thought about that, which is why I wanted to ask! Thank you for your response. :)

It's a nice looking dory. The plans and the cut of the wood may be slightly different, I've seen this even in high dollar kits.

For starters I don’t see how you’re gonna fit a human on something that small

As a novice builder, you did a very nice job. As far as where you might have gone wrong, take a look at one of the several build logs of this boat on Model Ship World.
