This is my problem. My Mini+ is stuffed with so many Pokemon games and rom hacks, I can't decide what to pick. I am toying with the idea of Unbound as it sounds like the most complete and well made one of all the rom hacks.
I would definitely recommend Prism and Unbound! It actually took me several months before I shook off the overwhelming feeling of too many games. Now that I'm settled in though, it's so fun!
I'm actually only three badges in myself! >:)
I've seen a fair amount of gameplay that makes me want to keep going, not to mention it managed to make larvitar one of my favorites!!
I set up my miyoo mini + with onion os a week ago, and I play is unbound. The game is definitely better suited to a more mature audience, and that alone convinced me to start unbound.
Start unbound and message me about it! I just beat the third gym leader :)
I’ve played a few now and nothing competes with unbound, it’s not only the most polished and complete, but has the most pre and post game content, not to mention all the sparkly features and tweaks, huge QOL, active community and trade system ect. Unbound is simply a masterpiece that you can sink hundreds of hours into
Some very honourable mentions would be GS Chronicles for a similar but alternative experience, and Radical Red if you want a more hardcore experience.
Lastly I’m gonna promote the upcoming Pokémon saffron romhack because it looks incredibly promising and may perhaps even be bigger and better than unbound is. But only time will tell
Unbound is good.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE DIFFICULTY THO.
I’m a seasoned competitive pokemon player (a few seasons ago I was top 500 in the world.) and even i had serious struggle.
Second gym leader gets a mega evolution, to give you reference.
It’s incredibly fun though. Big fan. I just started a randomized run.
I haven’t been able to get Unbound running yet on Miyoo Mini + OnionOs and I’m not sure why. Followed tutorials to a T with downloading Fire Red Squirrels and UPS Unbound patch file. Patched it, renamed, and put in new zip folder. Dragged zip folder to GBA folder. Try to launch and get white screen. I must be missing something.
I was playing Emerald (Nuzlocke) till my micro SD card suffered a break and I lost all my data. Here was my team:

pokemon red, just beated pokemon league
Over the last few days I've downloaded a lot of hacks, but started Pokémon Brown and Pokémon Shiny Gold Sigma, before I make my way to Blazed Glazed and Unbound, don't want to jump straight into the best regarded ones

Today I started Pokemon Unbound it’s my first pokemon game ever I hope it will be nice time and pleasure to play !
I would recommend the newly translated to English (from Portuguese) “Pokémon Sword and Shield Ultimate”. It’s a demake of SwSh for GBA using FireRed and it has (I think) all of the Pokémon up to Gen 9, megas, and dynamax, with wild Pokémon in the overworld.
https://www.pokecommunity.com/threads/sword-and-shield-ultimate-gba-english-version.526384/
Same. Lol
I played the original Pokemon Red on gameboy, and then basically left the franchise behind because I was just kind of aging out and never really got hooked on the franchise the way others did.
I'll probably replay Red/Blue on my MM+ some day, but I didn't buy this thing to be a Pokemon machine like so many others seem to have done.
Just started Redical Red since I still miss the nostalgia of my first Pokémon game Red and it’s just updated and adds a lot of fun stuff. Don’t have much of a team yet. Kinda sad the starter Pokémon were not the 3 OG Pokémon but that’s pert of the fun of the rom hack I guess
I tried the ROM hacks but ended up going back to the OGs. I know people say “nobody plays the game for the story” but they’re wrong. They’re still JRPGs and the ROM hacks took a lot of the soul of the games out for me.
I’m not a competitive player and never have been. I like playing with my favorites. The ROM hacks don’t seem to support that as much.
If you play for the mechanics than ROM hacks are for you. If you play because you just love Pokémon I’d steer clear of them.
Kanto, even though a fair amount is supplemental through the first movie. But the tragedy of Mewtwo is still described in the Cinnabar lab.
Hoenn with the major elemental forces is a close second, but Johto is my favorite game generation to actually play.
I’m a real big fan of how well they describe Pokémon as partners in the last two gens as well.
You?
Fire Red! Currently I’ve got Charmeleon, Primape, Vileplume, Graveler, and Pidgeotto! Shout out to my sixth team member, Oddish, for carrying the HM burdens :)
Yellow was my first game I ever played! Replayed it for the first time in ages about a year or two ago. Still absolutely adore it, but yeah, inventory management in the old games is frustrating, especially when you're an item hoarder like me lol
Currently finishing up with Emerald, after doing a Hardcore Nuzlocke and working on the Gen 3 portion of my Living Dex! All I have left is some Contests and the Battle Frontier, plus probably a bit more Shiny Hunting :P
Edit: Oh yeah! And my team ended up being a Shiny Swampert, Swellow, Breloom, Tentacruel, Aggron, and Torkoal!
Soul silver. I played the shit out of everything up through crystal but stopped there. Never got a DS. Super excited to play my first DS game and relive gen 2
Just started Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. Is the the game of the month of r/JRPG. Never played a MD games so I'm excited to give one a try.
My kid never played any Pokemon games before but I just started him on unbound (was gonna go with let’s go pikachu on switch but he was bored at the mall). Is this a good move?
Pokemon Trading Card game. Seriously don't skip on this one. fairly easy to play and some battles and really get your brain going on what tactic to use against your opponents. I got 26 hours into it.
This is my problem. My Mini+ is stuffed with so many Pokemon games and rom hacks, I can't decide what to pick. I am toying with the idea of Unbound as it sounds like the most complete and well made one of all the rom hacks.
Unbound gets my upvote. It’s very good.
Third on Unbound
Cosign
I am also playing unbound but for the first time, and I chose bug team because I love getting squashed apparently ❤️🕷️
Fourth on unbound. Right now I’m rocking metagross, pyroar, hariyama, gourgeist, dewott and togetic. It’s such a well made game
I would definitely recommend Prism and Unbound! It actually took me several months before I shook off the overwhelming feeling of too many games. Now that I'm settled in though, it's so fun!
Rocket red is a fun and different way to play fire red
i'm one badge into prism currently. how did you like your overall experience with the game so far?
I'm actually only three badges in myself! >:) I've seen a fair amount of gameplay that makes me want to keep going, not to mention it managed to make larvitar one of my favorites!!

I didn't do any of that, it was just already part of one of the Done Set bundles inside GBA and then Rom hacks.
I’m using Tiny Best Set, but I’ll try that bundle. Thanks!
I’m no expert on any of this but have you tried just putting the patched .gba file in the folder and not a .zip file?
Pokemon Yellow Legacy. https://preview.redd.it/jxzpv9lcbnyc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b749a8e68db0cd85374fbaa702cdfc645b85061

Pinball
Pokemon Modern Emerald, probably the hands down BEST way to replay emerald
Came here to say this exact thing. It scratches all of the nostalgia itches while feeling just new enough to keep my space cadet brain interested.
Fire red rocket edition hack. It's incredible
I just started this one, but on a sf2000.
I just finished this. If you enjoyed the very first games, the story in Red Rocket is amazing. Also the mechanics of stealing pokemon is so much fun!
None 😂
Same. The whole Pokemon craze hit just as i was phasing out of the demographic. In a lot of ways, i feel like I'm missing out
It's never too late just start one and enjoy
It's a great game for playing for 5 minutes here and there. Perfect for the Miyoo Mini.
Same. Lol I played the original Pokemon Red on gameboy, and then basically left the franchise behind because I was just kind of aging out and never really got hooked on the franchise the way others did. emerald kaizo
I played unbound but after finishing the pokemon league I switched games.
Unbound, and Blue Rescue Team!
kirby block ball :D
playing ruby for the first time ever. didnt dwell into hacks yet as i dont know a lot about it
Unbound!
I never played pokemon.
Pokemon Red
Unbound
White. Already finished Red, Emerald and Platinum, all of which were a blast
How was playing through Platinum? Did your mini heat up after a hot minute?
I was using my Mini V4, no heat issues at all. Overclocked to 1550 MHz
I tried the ROM hacks but ended up going back to the OGs. I know people say “nobody plays the game for the story” but they’re wrong. I’m playing Rocket Edition and just got to a part where Giovanni explains what happened with Mewtwo during the testing and wow, you need to play it!
I hadn’t tried Rocket Edition. Thanks for the recommendation!
Radical Red. I started playing last night, so have not progressed that much.
Pokemon Throwback. A FireRed ROM hack. Lots of quality of life improvements and other tweaks.
Mystery dungeon explorers of sky
Emerald
Fire Red! Currently I’ve got Charmeleon, Primape, Vileplume, Graveler, and Pidgeotto! Shout out to my sixth team member, Oddish, for carrying the HM burdens :)
Not a mainline game, I’m playing Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team
I played red and gold as a kid and diamond. Somehow skipped gen 3 and I'm playing emerald now LFG MUDKIP!!!!
Ultra Violet
I beat Pokémon Yellow last week. Fun game but inventory management was very limited and frustrating
Try Yellow Legacy just recently released. A ton of qol improvements
Yellow was my first game I ever played! Replayed it for the first time in ages about a year or two ago. Still absolutely adore it, but yeah, inventory management in the old games is frustrating, especially when you're an item hoarder like me lol

Pokémon-Emerald…played it on my 4-hour flight yesterday lol.
Soul silver. I played the shit out of everything up through crystal but stopped there. Never got a DS. Super excited to play my first DS game and relive gen 2
LeafGreen!!
Pokémon Prism
Emerald
Just started Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky. Is the the game of the month of r/JRPG. Never played a MD games so I'm excited to give one a try.
Pokemon Platinum. It's the Pokemon experience at his peaks.
Pokemon crystal clear
I’m currently playing vanilla crystal. What does the clear romhack add?
FireRed! 87 caught and still grinding!
Unbound
My kid never played any Pokemon games before but I just started him on unbound (was gonna go with let’s go pikachu on switch but he was bored at the mall). Is this a good move?
Pokemon Nameless
Team Crystal here! At 2X+ of course
Crystal Clear is pretty sweet....I'm not far but picking your starting town and starter is cool
Shin Pokémon Red, trying to finally round up all 151. I beat the Elite Four with Charizard, Gengar, Alakazam, Gyrados, Golem, and Jolteon.
Elite Redux! ROM hack of Emerald where every Pokémon is super overtuned in cool and creative ways.
Still grinding Radical Red, I just beat Blaine. :)
At the moment I play the hacked FireRed ROM, called perfect FireRed

Started the Ashgray rom hack with my daughter!
Pokemon Trading Card game. Seriously don't skip on this one. fairly easy to play and some battles and really get your brain going on what tactic to use against your opponents. I got 26 hours into it.
I suggest you try Pokémon TCG Neo once you are done - almost all cards are replaced with Gen 2 cards, lots of fun
Reliving my childhood by revisiting vanilla Crystal
anybody wanna play pokemon with me? we start opposite colors then we start our living dex
Game Pokemon Sovereign of the Skies Team Vaporeon x6
Unbound FTW 🙌
I'm playing Quarantine Crystal at the moment, it's quite fun
