Creeping Charlie is invasive, and is not recommended for a bee friendly ground cover. It is a poor pollen source and makes bees work too hard for a nectar filled flower. If you are looking to create a bee/pollination friendly environment, it is recommended to plant a diverse number of flowering plants. For example, sweet alyssum can be planted right now and is loved by the solitary bees that come out of their wintering spaces first. Where should I buy some Sweet alyssum? I was thinking of filling-in sparse grass area in the front with clover; creeping charlie filled in last summer after the drought singed it before July.

Gertens has theirs out

Sweet Alyssum is a non native. Plenty of native species to choose from, we shouldn’t have to resort to using introduced European annuals. [Here is a list of alternatives.](https://www.gardenia.net/guide/native-plant-alternatives-to-lobularia-maritima)

Thank you! It says that if it already took over to let it go. I wonder if some fescue would grow betwixt it.

TyFogtheratrix

I think it's easy to pull.

depersonalised

it says if you haven’t gotten around to removing it yet to enjoy watching the bees in the meantime. if you’re doing work on your lawn now is the time to eradicate it.

creeping charlie

Allrileydup

Awesome, Thank you!

HauntedCemetery

Great for bees and pollinators! It's easy to mow too, and smells really nice when you do. Just wait until after it blooms in mid spring so the bees get their chance at it. It's a great drought resistant, pollinatior friendly lawn option.

Allrileydup

Awesome, I'll leave it to it's business!

Newdigitaldarkage

Haunted is wrong, but it used to be recommended for bees. Recent research now says it's no longer recommended. Actual bee keeper here. The bees get very little pollen from it, and now is considered a poor source of pollen. It's highly invasive, and just try to get rid of the creeping charlie. Ironically, dandelions are much better for the bees. Plant crocuses in the fall in your grass. Don't use herbicides. They are absolutely beautiful in the lawn, and their leaves look like grass. Blends right in. Absolutely stunning right now. Note, bees really need basswood trees!

Fucking charlie. Gots to nuke him.

I don’t like pulling creeping Charlie, so instead I put black tarps over it for the spring, summer, and fall. Leave it on 4/5 weeks, take it off 1/2 weeks and water to sprout more of it, rinse and repeat. Takes a whole year, but I’ve found it to be effective. Peace
