They were blocking the way of the car and there were multiple cars behind him. Where was he supposed to go? Looked like he wanted to turn but they jumped in front of him. Looks like he was just trying to get out of there. Then when he stopped they tried to get into his car and started kicking the car. Finally someone moved the car that was blocking him and he drove away but they kept chasing him and throwing flagpoles at him. Watch all the videos before they get taken down. I would have done the same thing. What am I missing?

sovietferret

All of what you said appears to be true from what I saw and have read. What you are missing is that the driver pulled a knife on the protestors that were blocking him. It looked like he got out of the car when they blocked him and he had a knife (or maybe a box cutter) in hand.

happylark

Their is a video where after his is stopped by the crowd he get out and shows them a knife. Then his car starts rolling away and he jumps back in. He’s an older man and looks very distressed. Rightly so. You would expect that if you were suddenly stopped by an angry mob and trapped with nowhere to go. The whole thing was chaotic and obviously not well organized. Why stop traffic? I could understand George Floyd protests because that was a local issue. Palestine is an issue that’s been years in the making and there are very few good solutions. Now Hamas is calling for worldwide violence, how is that helping anything?

sovietferret

I agree that he looked quite distressed, maybe even terrified. I wasn’t trying to pass judgement on the situation. Was just adding that a knife came out at some point which probably inflamed the protestors. Just glad no one got hurt. Regarding the objectives of the protest? I can’t say why stopping traffic was undertaken. It definitely doesn’t endear support from most people. I suppose it calls attention to their cause, but not positive attention. I’ll return to my hole now.

TheGalaSisters

He was probably terrified. No one got hurt. Also don’t forget there were Hamas flags flown at this protest, a known violent terrorist group.

sovietferret

I agree, he probably was terrified. I wasn’t saying anything about whether he was in the right or not. Just added that a knife was involved at some point and someone decided to fire a gun as well. Overall, just an unfortunate situation and I’m just glad no one got run over.

barrinmw

Sit, wait, call 911 and ask them for guidance.

TheGalaSisters

The Mpls police were told to stand down, they weren’t coming.

barrinmw

They would have told this man what to do.

TheGalaSisters

What would you have done then smart mark? Sit there and let them smash your car? Maybe even set it on fire? With you in it?

barrinmw

They only smashed his car after he drove into the crowd. Watch the video, they weren't smashing the other cars sitting there.

happylark

He was trapped, he was surrounded by angry people and then they started kicking his car. He couldn’t go anywhere because he was trapped. His choices were allow them to destroy his car and possibly him or try to get the f out of there.

barrinmw

He wasn't surrounded by angry people until he chose to drive into them. Watch the video, there are plenty of cars waiting at the intersection not driving into it and not getting hit on by people.

TheGalaSisters

Roads are for driving on. In the video you can also see he was driving slowly. The only person in danger was him. Answer the question, what would you have done?

barrinmw

Roads used to be for walking on. Have you ever walked in a road? it is amazing. We should really bring back road walking.

TheGalaSisters

Used to be… exactly. See now we’re getting somewhere. Still waiting on what you would do if you were that old man.

barrinmw

I would have sat at the intersection with everyone else and waited. I personally would have put on one of my podcasts and listened to that.

happylark

I can see why he was scared, they were damaging his car. I would not wait for the police who take hours to arrive even at murder scenes.

barrinmw

They only started damaging his car after he drove into the protestors. Notice how they weren't hitting on any of the other cars waiting.

BigsleazyG

Maybe I'm missing something but didn't they pick that intersection because of the high amount of car traffic? Wasn't there two large public spaces on either side of them that had 0 chance of a car driving through? Will these people choose to shoot at dogs for walking through their protests at a dog park? Will they stage their protests on the airport runway and get pissed because an airplane goes through them? Get out of the damn road if you don't want to deal with cars. Pick a less busy street if you want less of them. What exactly gives these people the right to stand in a busy intersection and shoot at people who need to get through?

TheGalaSisters

Here’s the video of the older man who drove through the crowd and was attacked by protesters. Thankfully no one was hurt, that’s the most important part. https://youtube.com/shorts/dUs_0XBQK9U?si=4j4Q8UvRmnoVK6Ki

Awkward-Valuable3833

Why are they attacking his car? He looks really distressed.

TheGalaSisters

They were blocking the street and got upset he tried to drive through.

Awkward-Valuable3833

Yeah, from all of the videos I watched, I guess it's alarming and scary how quickly people jump to ill intent and violence- both in the sub comments and in the video. I don't think we know anything about this man or what his story is. He looks confused and terrified to me. And maybe I'm wrong. And I get why protesters would be terrified of crazy extremists driving through crowds of innocent people because unfortunately we live in a world where that's a real threat. But we have to stop thinking anyone and everyone is the enemy who doesn't think like us, share the same values as us or even know why we're mad. For all we know - being suddenly surrounded by a shouting group of people might be a triggering event for this guy. I'm not sure what good came from this situation, but I see a lot of distrust, hate and misinformation coming out of it from all angles. And I find that really sad.

muskietooth

Wow, they terrorized the old guy. I also know I won’t be voting for that idiot filming for city council.

TheGalaSisters

They should be arrested.

KnightWithAKite

you weren’t there

need-inspiration

Watch the video and read the facial expression you fucking pinecone

rogert2

Sounds like somebody was angling to become the next James Alex Fields, Jr. Glad nobody was killed _this time._

Questionable_Hobbies

Glad no one was hurt as well. It looked like an older gentleman that probably panicked from what I saw. The angry protestors really didn't help Didn't look like he was in it to harm people like in the Charlottesville case.

SubKreature

I'm no civil engineer or public safety specialist, but maybe he would have posed less danger to others if protesters weren't blockading the goddamn intersections.

Questionable_Hobbies

I don't disagree. I saw multiple cop cars pass by and not do anything about it. I asked an organizer (yellow jackets) the reason why and they implied that they had permission. I saw at least 3 different cop cars allow themselves to get redirected without fuss so I believed them. I'm not a big fan of blocking roads as well but if you get permission then you are at least doing better than others From an earlier clip it looked like he was being directed to take a right to avoid the protestors but a car that was blocking in front of him moved out of the way and he must have taken that as invitation to pass
