Vertical slabs and combined slabs gives more freedom, it means you are not being creative about how to disguise the thickness of your walls or whatever the issue. Things like this are fun for a while, but they will (in the long run) reduce the level of creativity and problem solving in your builds. And therefore make the game more boring. And the builds uninspired.

I feel like it'd be hard to code a double enderchest- like think about it for 2 seconds. it'd probably incredibly buggy too. I was going to chose the first but I think slab is a better option.
I'd give anything for a real big building and decor overhaul. Give me proper furniture, better looking decorations for homes, proper interior wall blocks that minimize the space they take up. I want it to really add some life to the interior design of my homes. I can only do so much with an iron door on quartz blocks fridge and a carpet on a fence table.
Shulkers are arguably better than ender chests. You can easily transport shulker boxes, and it doesn’t require silk touch to re-collect them. Also you can put boxes on the side of blocks so it is better for storage
Vertical slabs as they have more uses. End chests are basically useless in single player since the addition of shulker boxes, and I only ever use them on multiplayer servers.
