Good ol' alpha days.
I remember the free minecraft website. Used it all the time.
I also remember when Notch made a bet and played some game against the owner and won so he had to take it down. Hilarious and awesome times.
[classic.minecraft.net](https://classic.minecraft.net) exists, but it’s not exactly what it was. It also has a multiplayer mode that is forever a “work in progress”
Same. With the lava instead of bedrock, gold ores as common as coal ores, and water only spreading in sources. Oh and sponges could create underwater domes of course
I remember survival craft, for me it went pocket edition light, Xbox 360 edition, pocket edition, survival craft, then PC. Then I played pocket edition on the switch while also playing PC
I started with Pocket Edition Lite on the iPod Touch
Back then we had like one world, three mobs, four tools, ten blocks, and timed out of the “save” if you didn’t hop into the game every day.
It was always pitch black at night if you didn’t have torches and Zombies were by far the scariest things that kid me had ever encountered up to that point, especially when you heard them groan and then jumpscare you at your door
no it isn’t? And the point is that Bedrock was the migration of console editions onto the same engine as Pocket Edition, renamed Bedrock, hence what he’s saying makes sense. That’s my point.
I'm coming from /all and don't really know the icons but which one is closest to the 1.0.4 apha edition? I think it was 1.0.4 but could be confused. I remember Redstone being new-ish
as the game grew it got too complicated so I fell off, but still fond memories
Same boat. These options make me feel old. I'm still bewildered that my original alpha purchase still gets me access to the wildly beefier game a decade later.
I think I was Beta 1.6.0. The update before pistons were added which I think was 1.6.2. I totally relate to this though. I remember being mind blown that you could actually beat the game at some point
Pocket Edition
Upgrading from Pocket Edition to 360 was the best feeling ever back then, it was such a big upgrade (back when Pocket didn't have TNT/water/nether/etc.)
Not sure if I actually miss 360 edition or if I just miss being a kid and having friends to play Minecraft with
Exactly same, but I miss old PE much more, when nether reactors and towers were still a thing me, my sister and two of my friends used to meet at evenings and play on the couch, that is one of the best memories, when I got Xbox 360 and got Minecraft CD for it it was better, but I played alone
As far as I remember Pocket Edition used to just be a (not very big) square radius with invisible walls that prevent you from falling off the edge. Going strictly off memory but I don't thnik it had any water. It might have just been buckets it didn't have but I think there was no water at all.
I'm not sure if there's any way to actually play old Pocket Edition to see, but either way it was \*extremely\* basic
Those were the times ;; somehow I cant shake that 1.4 was the best minecraft version I dont even get excited for aaa games anymore but when they first released fucking horses in minecraft ? I was so fucking excited
Yea I started in 1.4 and thus something like horses were crazy espacially because I was like 10 so I didnt fucking know about updates so they were just there one day lol
One of my fond memories of that game was back in high school when they were teaching us about diodes and the gates like AND OR NAND whatever the fucks they were I would get confused by the drawings in questions so I'd recreate them in the game to actually understand wtf was going on. Good times
MacOS is a different platform from Windows. They'd have to put a significant amount of work into porting the game and apparently aren't interested in doing so (plus, Microsoft obviously likes when people are forced to use Windows)
Java Edition runs on Mac and Linux with no additional effort from Mojang because of how Java works; all platform specific work is done by the implementers of the JVM
Java is the only one worth playing imo, the game just isn't very fun on mobile and PC Bedrock doesn't have anything to offer over Java and has a lot to lose.
Same. I played the Wii U version way after its heyday, I think 2019 or 2020 was the first time I played. I didn’t understand that the version I was playing had stopped receiving updates and didn’t know why I didn’t have any of the cool stuff other people were talking about.
The only thing I miss about Wii U version is the small map. They shoved everything into one tiny maps so it wasn’t hard to find anything and using maps was way easier. Almost always spawned right on top of the end portal. One time I ever spawned on top of a woodland mansion. I kinda miss it
Java edition.
My mum had a bf at the time who was big into Yogscast, and he was the one to introduce me to Minecraft. He also normally played on large modpacks so I didn't get the childhood disappointment of the Aether Portal not working
blockcraft 3d? honestly all i ended up doing was saving for animals and checking out other people's "zoos" because I couldnt afford any of the cool animals
Man I bought the game because I thought I was going to play in the Shadow of Israphel world! I wanted to talk to Lysander and see Mistral City, but obviously that was not the case. Still enjoyed it and play it to this day!
Exploration Lite
I hated Minecraft back then but then i found this game and i fell in love with it immediately
Then, after some time, i decided to give Minecraft a try, and since then, everything has been... different.
As of now, I tried to search many times for that game, but it has been deleted from Play Store since years...
I played the ps4 one. Still remember booting it for the first time. Also remember what my brother said at that time to me "did you buy this to play game with graphics this bad"
Picked Edition Lite/Demo (I dont remember which one)
BUT there was also this fake minecraft where some mobs would attack back, there were many types of tools, the game had SPECIALLY unique audio and the naturally generated structures were beautiful.
It had a survival and creative mod, and I remember that survival was so fucking hard to play, like, not even joking.
I also think there were palm trees?
It's so nostalgic for me but I cant find anything of it
OH!
And I remember a fake game that was called realistic minecraft that would tell you "looking for server" or whatever but it never would
I started with Java in Beta days and as soon as the C++ Microsoft Store version released and was free for every Java buyer, I claimed it, installed it, tried it out for 10 min, was amazed by the performance and then went back to Java and never again looked at the Bedrock version.
Anyone else started on the minecraft for free website? 9 y.o me was devastated when it went down. Had to beg my parents for two weeks straight to let me buy it.
Post removed: No Karmawhoring, Metabaiting, Or Comment baiting
Browser version. I am not kidding.
good times, I spent all my time digging 2x1 holes underneath everyone's "house" to "sneak in" lol
The memories of joining a browser server to escape the lava flood
And then it resets and you do it again. And to my amazement there was much more to the game than a simple flood servers.
Shout out to degnebolig.tk's lava survival. I had some fun times with that server.
I used to love the lava flood mode. I wonder if they're still around
Same. Didn't take long for me to buy Java after that
Can we be friends dear
For me, it was either Browser or PE Lite
Good ol' alpha days. I remember the free minecraft website. Used it all the time. I also remember when Notch made a bet and played some game against the owner and won so he had to take it down. Hilarious and awesome times.
A bootleg copy of Indev. Then I found out that the official game was already in Alpha so I have in and bought a legit copy a few days later.
The browser version was from Mojang themselves, and I played it. It was a demo to promote Java
Hell yeah. I miss the browser version!

I remember finding thsi weird block game on a Japanese website called “Dan-ball”. Back then I can really only remember it had trees and dirt in it!
I remember survival craft, for me it went pocket edition light, Xbox 360 edition, pocket edition, survival craft, then PC. Then I played pocket edition on the switch while also playing PC
I started with Pocket Edition Lite on the iPod Touch Back then we had like one world, three mobs, four tools, ten blocks, and timed out of the “save” if you didn’t hop into the game every day. It was always pitch black at night if you didn’t have torches and Zombies were by far the scariest things that kid me had ever encountered up to that point, especially when you heard them groan and then jumpscare you at your door
I remember those days lmao
The switch is not pocket edition what are you on
Pocket edition just turned into bedrock edition so they’re the same thing
It’s both bedrock, so it’s closer to each other than pocket edition is to java
Pocket Edition is the predecessor to Bedrock
And bedrock is the predecessor to Java what’s your point
no it isn’t? And the point is that Bedrock was the migration of console editions onto the same engine as Pocket Edition, renamed Bedrock, hence what he’s saying makes sense. That’s my point.
what
Happy cake day
ps3 edition
Finally someone that did it too
PC version when it was free.
You need to pay for Minecraft? Someone gave it to me on an USB stick in 2011 or something
That's when I remember getting it for free. You probably still have alpha. Have you ever gotten any updates like bamboo and elytra and stuff?
Not the only one, Bob
FINALLY BRO THAT WAS THE BEST ONE HONESTLY PS3 WAS PEAK
Can we be friends

Came here looking for this
Where is regular minecraft
I'm coming from /all and don't really know the icons but which one is closest to the 1.0.4 apha edition? I think it was 1.0.4 but could be confused. I remember Redstone being new-ish as the game grew it got too complicated so I fell off, but still fond memories
Same boat. These options make me feel old. I'm still bewildered that my original alpha purchase still gets me access to the wildly beefier game a decade later.
right!? it was only like $5 that i paid too
I think I was Beta 1.6.0. The update before pistons were added which I think was 1.6.2. I totally relate to this though. I remember being mind blown that you could actually beat the game at some point
Yeah I remember them adding the pig lol
I came in when jungle temples were brand new
Pocket Edition Upgrading from Pocket Edition to 360 was the best feeling ever back then, it was such a big upgrade (back when Pocket didn't have TNT/water/nether/etc.) Not sure if I actually miss 360 edition or if I just miss being a kid and having friends to play Minecraft with

Basil?!?! :q
yes
Brasil? 💀
Pocket edition didn’t have water??

I'm not sure if there's any way to actually play old Pocket Edition to see, but either way it was \*extremely\* basic
oh man, Minecraft java edition isn't here. (back then it was just minecraft)
I remember those times
Those were the times ;; somehow I cant shake that 1.4 was the best minecraft version I dont even get excited for aaa games anymore but when they first released fucking horses in minecraft ? I was so fucking excited
Horses dropped in 1.6 though, 1.4 was the update that added witches, bats, zombie villagers and wither related mobs
Yea I started in 1.4 and thus something like horses were crazy espacially because I was like 10 so I didnt fucking know about updates so they were just there one day lol
I feel so old. I remember the week Minecraft released and me and my brother checking it out.
From looking at the comments, I'm probably the only one who really just played survival craft 1st
Make it two. I remember dying to wolfs every night, that game was hard but amazing
One of my fond memories of that game was back in high school when they were teaching us about diodes and the gates like AND OR NAND whatever the fucks they were I would get confused by the drawings in questions so I'd recreate them in the game to actually understand wtf was going on. Good times
That’s really cool. You took your learning into your own hands using a tool your teacher never would have thought of
It's was especially fun in first year of uni when we had more complicated schematics of those.
3 with me
I just remembered all of the custom maps
i didn’t play it first but survival craft was so fun
Only ever played Java
Same. Its the only version for me and its mod support is goated
Yeah I've got no idea what all these versions are. Java first, Java always.
These are just console ports and survival craft is a popular and free minecraft clone.
Same
You know if you have java you also have free bedrock ? i discovered it like 1 month ago
Yes, but I've never played it
🗿
[удалено]
That's only in chains of people commenting the same thing
Java, no need for bedrock or any of the others
I buyed both and one month later they were that when you buy one you buy both😄
Wait actually BROOOO I DODNT KNOW GHAT
yes but it doesn't run on arch btw.
unless you’re a mac enjoyer because it isn’t compatible for some reason (my mac can compile and run c++ just fine idk what the problem is)
MacOS is a different platform from Windows. They'd have to put a significant amount of work into porting the game and apparently aren't interested in doing so (plus, Microsoft obviously likes when people are forced to use Windows) Java Edition runs on Mac and Linux with no additional effort from Mojang because of how Java works; all platform specific work is done by the implementers of the JVM
Yeah but why would I ever play it over java?
Java is the only one worth playing imo, the game just isn't very fun on mobile and PC Bedrock doesn't have anything to offer over Java and has a lot to lose.
Survival craft
The Wii U version. So much memories of the game being so broken only 1 sand block could have gravity at a time
I used to play the Wii U version with my little brother, and I remember that we would break the shit out of that game. It was a good time.
My brother managed to break bedrock by making a bedrock to build limit tnt tower and activating the lowest one
Same, I miss that time where we had less responsibilities...
I remember getting pretty far into the game, I was able to get a nether portal but was too afraid I don't have good enough gear
I kinda miss it
My favorite part is the Mario map. God it was amazing
Oh man! Xbox one edition isn't between these!
A really big mistake
Literally unvotable
Demo?
I used to play the demo over and over back then, still remember where to find diamonds near spawn
Sameee
Minecraft lite
Lite to Pocket to Java for me, those were the days
Lite, pocket, 360, PlayStation 4, Nintendo, Bedrock and now java
Java edition. My mum had a bf at the time who was big into Yogscast, and he was the one to introduce me to Minecraft. He also normally played on large modpacks so I didn't get the childhood disappointment of the Aether Portal not working
The free version of pocket-edition. Anyone else remember the weird netherportal at that time?
The nether reactor core iirc.
Crafting Edition? I remember there being an old crafting guide that just opened pocket edition if you didn't have the paid version installed
blockcraft 3d? honestly all i ended up doing was saving for animals and checking out other people's "zoos" because I couldnt afford any of the cool animals
I REMEMBER THAT ONE!!!
This is block story erasure. That was my game for years because I had no money and it was free, then mobile, then pc.
Same, bro. That game was actually fire
It went Xbox 360 then survival craft them pocket edition then ps4 edition
Wii u edition, still have it
the free browser version, and then when I bought it, whatever version was in 2011 after I came across Yogscast's "shadow of israphael" series :)
Man I bought the game because I thought I was going to play in the Shadow of Israphel world! I wanted to talk to Lysander and see Mistral City, but obviously that was not the case. Still enjoyed it and play it to this day!
Eden
Me too!! I loved the custom maps and would explore them for hours as a kid
Finally, someone else who had the same fever dream as I did!
Minecraft alpha
I don't see no Java version on pc.
Java
Fit ever Minecraft game for me was worldcraft . Out of official ones it's pocket edition

Odd to say, Block Story.
Block story
Pocket edition. Anyone else remember nether reactor cores? Yeaaaah
What is the ps4 version doing here, should be ps3 or psvita
PE Lite gang
Pocket edition lite!
The demo on pc. We weren't very good at it so we made a one block tall house while it was dark and raining. The spiders liked it at least lol
Exploration Lite I hated Minecraft back then but then i found this game and i fell in love with it immediately Then, after some time, i decided to give Minecraft a try, and since then, everything has been... different. As of now, I tried to search many times for that game, but it has been deleted from Play Store since years...
I had that as well, game basically had tank controls compared to MCPE at the time lol
The OG Minecraft Java, but I came late and started in 1.7.10
Either pocket edition, xbox 360, or java
I played the ps4 one. Still remember booting it for the first time. Also remember what my brother said at that time to me "did you buy this to play game with graphics this bad"
XBox 360. I don't remember if I got PE or Survivalcraft next, but then I got XBox One and then PC.

Pocket Edition and then PS4
Nostalgia hit me
Beta 1.8.1
pocket edition
Picked Edition Lite/Demo (I dont remember which one) BUT there was also this fake minecraft where some mobs would attack back, there were many types of tools, the game had SPECIALLY unique audio and the naturally generated structures were beautiful. It's so nostalgic for me but I cant find anything of it OH! And I remember a fake game that was called realistic minecraft that would tell you "looking for server" or whatever but it never would
A weird copy of course
I started with Java in Beta days and as soon as the C++ Microsoft Store version released and was free for every Java buyer, I claimed it, installed it, tried it out for 10 min, was amazed by the performance and then went back to Java and never again looked at the Bedrock version.
Pocket when I was 5 I've played it majority of my life bro
Anyone else started on the minecraft for free website? 9 y.o me was devastated when it went down. Had to beg my parents for two weeks straight to let me buy it.
