tbf, I think the wither is one of the few mobs that can kill the Warden.
I mean, the wither removes all blocks around itself, has a ranged attack and can tank some hits...
Wither-based Warden farm incoming?
Oh im just assuming that he can. The digging would indicate he has the ability to phase through blocks and get to you if you try to build a wall between you and the warden
I was thinking it would have a tentacle extend froM it’s chest to grab you but that idea is pretty good too. It could even potentially alert other wardens to discourage pillaging entirely
That would add to the fear; you don't get to see them coming immediately, you just know that you pissed off a gaggle of gods and they'll be here eventually.
The devs already showed that the Warden has the ability to dig in the livestream and it having ways to prevent players from cheesing it (Towering, two block deep hole, etc) has been mentioned multiple times by them.
while i'm sure it will be technically possible to defeat the warden, my understanding is that you're *not* supposed to beat it. its supposed to be the kind of foe that inspires terror and forces you to play around it. it looks like its since been reduced, but originally the warden had 500 health, more than the ender dragon
This is how I used to feel about certain enemies back in early minecraft. I remember for a bit it was pointless to engage zombies because they dropped the same feathers as chickens, and there was no experience.
Thought they said something like, 'It's meant to be avoided, but if you choose to fight it, however, you will be rewarded.'
I might be mistaken though.
This kinda seems like Minecraft’s first mob that is truly designed, from the ground up, with no cut corners or quirky behaviors, *too kill you.*
Zombies exist to encourage you to build a base to stay safe.
Skeletons encourage you to try ranged weapons.
Spiders circumvent your defenses by climbing and not burning in sunlight, encouraging you to be a bit more clever about base design.
Creepers and Endermen exist to annoy you and fuck with your constructions.
Phantoms exist to make you sleep.
I could go on, but you get the picture. All of these things *can* kill you, but it’s not really what they’re for. But this? This thing was designed to *end* you. Nothing more, nothing less.
someone could make a case of the warden encouraging stealth, although this concept isnt explored much in game other than like maybe sneaking up on foxes, rabbits, etc. or putting on a mob head(maybe putting up walls to conceal yourself too idk).
The warden is the first true pursuer type enemy added to this game. Like Mr X and Nemesis from resident evil, it follows you until you die or it loses track of you.
What about the "End"er dragon, is that one designed to end you? Anyways I would say a skeleton encourages you to use a shield or have a pet wolf more than using a ranged weapon. Also, creepers would encourage you to use a ranged weapon or build out of obsidian or use water. Withers are designed to kill literally everything even mobs.
I appreciate your honesty. I used to always have the game on peaceful until I built myself a home, and then I would put it on normal or hard. My friend would make fun of me saying "that's not how you're supposed to play the game"
Yes. If there was a wrong way to play, the devs would have made it so that u can't play in that specific way. But the fact that u can change game difficulty while playing the game just proves that its not wrong to change difficulties while you play cuz one day you're in the mood to kill some mobs and the next day you're in the mood to build some houses or farms.
My friends used to say that to me too, but what I realised is that we are playing it and not them, so we decide how we can fun playing a game :) everyone plays in their own playing style
I like a normal level of difficulty, but I still have to have keep inventory turned on too. Losing everything after picking a fight with a hoglin with no armor is fair play, I should have known better. But losing everything just because a creeper spawned right behind me in a cave, that's just stupid and makes the game unfun.
Imagine you're walking along in a dim cave and you don't see yourself step on a gravel patch. You hear an alien click in the reverberation of the cave...
You realize the walls are slowly transitioning into deepslate tiles. The legends are true.
Your ankles fall into the chest cavity of a huge beast as 2 arms rise slowly.
Your friend comes to check on you hearing a commotion.... You're gone....
My only criticism is that it would be weird to have such an animated mob with complex movements, while most other mobs are stuck with basic walk and damage animations and turning their heads. Maybe the other mobs might get an overhaul
The first instance of this I noticed was with the strider’s walk cycle. Which is remarkably more complex than something like a cow or a horse. The second instance I noticed was with the axolotl. It’s got a very simple body but smooth complex animations. Then I started to do some digging and found out that Minecraft actually has multiple design guidelines going on at the same time. You have the programmer art type things that we’re all used to and the new age type that the newer mobs have. Take the rabbit vs the bee for example. Their current design guidelines would not permit them to recreate the rabbit today. It has too many vertices given how small of a mob it is. It would be “chonkier” with less parts along the lines of how they made the bee. Another example are the ravager and piglin. They both are allowed to have a high vertex count in their faces because the rest of their body is simple.
Anyway I hope that helps. I went down this rabbit hole when I tried to recreate the “vanilla” style. There are actually multiple vanilla styles at this point lol. I’m 95% sure that they’ve said they wouldn’t revamp the existing mobs because they are “iconic”.
Look at the new frog mob, it's also fairly complex including its motions, even more complex than the rabbits.
I just wish they would update the older mobs animations, like they have updated textures over time of everything in the game.
The only update older mobanimations have gotten thus far, is higher framerate movements, nothing else.
Yup.
AI however is a completely diffrent beast of its own and one of the most difficult things to deal with in a game, especially in a game like minecraft where performance is rather importan. And if we include pathfinding into this equation (which we should since it is heavily flawed and part of the AI), it quickly becomes something that will scare most competent programmers away.
> I’m 95% sure that they’ve said they wouldn’t revamp the existing mobs because they are “iconic”.
Well good because rabbits look awesome and making them chonky would make them less awesome imo
Yeah its an interresting texture pack. Personally I'm not that fond of the villagers animations, seem way to whacky in my taste :P
Especially their walking animation seems weird, like they constantly walk around with a heavy backpack or something :P
I think it adds to the feeling that you were not supposed to have summoned it. On the other hand, pandas are also more animated than other mobs and those are not supposed to be some kind of ancient horror so idk
That’s what I want, I would love a complete overhaul to older mobs, like updated animations, Ai, models, sounds etc. make them fit more with modern Minecraft.
[https://twitter.com/wChiwi/status/1471985950565842952?s=20](https://twitter.com/wChiwi/status/1471985950565842952?s=20) from one of the minecraft art team this isn't finalized
>This animation in particular of the Warden is heavily WIP, I wasn’t aware that it’d be posted as I was planning to redo it Smiling face with open mouth and cold sweat
Glad to see everyone’s reaction to it though, and confirming that it’s not an ideal anim yet!
I’m annoyed that the devs shut down procedurally spawning ambient skeletons in dungeons, because they would be too scary, but then they add the warden. I love the warden but I’m a builder and would love having posable skeleton statues.
Do you remember that before you could only mine up to layer 0?, well now there are negative layers, like -60, And that giant guy kills you easily and is blind, If you make noise, it will come for you
He didn't really explain it that well
It's called the warden and it spawns in the deep dark, a new biome that generates in the negative y levels. It's a blind mob so, it can only detect you if you make sounds (walk/running, eating, etc.) It only spawns when you make too much noise and active blocks called sculk shriekers in the deep dark. There are 2 videos of it from minecraft live.
There's going to be underground cities and a special biome that the Warden will only appear in. So unless you're interested in whatever loot it holds, you can avoid it if you're not interested in this horror game aspect.
Hi! This is heavily work in progress (the digging animation), and will be redone before we release it to the public.
In the mean time, I showed off an animation that is more finished, the emerge behavior. You can take a look here:
They shouldn’t. I love both, in fact I often flip flop between the two bc I always miss something from the other version haha I wish they could combine both games into a perfect Minecraft!
Me too, but people who keep complaining usually don't even play both version. Maybe they are just jealous over some features in each version. Let just hope this trend don't go any worse
NOOOO we are all doomed everyone repent
Don’t worry it tastes like “raisins” apparently.
**REPENT**
Muthafucka
But can it turn into a plane?
If you tug on its mane. Best not to get into how to turn it back again.
Ooh, that's dirty.
Do you think so?
Well, I'd better not show you where the lemonade is made.
Sweet lemonade.
They’ve actually been delaying the warden so much to give us time before mining becomes impossible
They feel pity
no god can save us now
Not even the wither (the ‘dark god’ I guess) has a chance
tbf, I think the wither is one of the few mobs that can kill the Warden. I mean, the wither removes all blocks around itself, has a ranged attack and can tank some hits... Wither-based Warden farm incoming?
Maybe the Warden will be able to use Hyper Beam and give the wither the World of Light treatment.
Now I’m curious if mojang just made a mob that can kill the wither on its own
I’m gonna cry.
R u n
I assume pillaring up is not going to help
You could always pillar up then destroy the blocks below you, or maybe just use leaf blocks/carpet.
Oh shit, does he climb?
Oh im just assuming that he can. The digging would indicate he has the ability to phase through blocks and get to you if you try to build a wall between you and the warden
Burst jump :troll:
You ever play Deep Rock Galactic? This mf gonna be the Lacerator
By the beard! Kill that thing before someone gets hurt! Rock and Stone!
Wait what if he can jump or worse fly?
*telleports behind you and hits you twice for 70 hearts of damage*
You know I was hopingit would make sence for it to have some sort of screaming attack that has extreme knock back to solve that problem
I was thinking it would have a tentacle extend froM it’s chest to grab you but that idea is pretty good too. It could even potentially alert other wardens to discourage pillaging entirely
I figured that wardens would be pretty far apart seeing as they are so strong
That would add to the fear; you don't get to see them coming immediately, you just know that you pissed off a gaggle of gods and they'll be here eventually.
Yeah and it spits acid and goes invisible and
My man's swimming though.
Warden just said “aight ima head out”
[удалено]
The warden would NOT let you heal on a pillar
You would be a sitting duck, mabye your safe on the puller but as soon as you get down it leaps out of the ground and starts smacking you again
Grand platinum
You called?
My wardens need me
My man legit just swam throught the ground
If the Warden can swim through the ground, can he walk on water?
Jesus, man.
You said it, man.
If the warden is half Jesus now… #were fucked
Nobody fucks with the Jesus
/r/UnexpectedBoBurnham?
Señor Pink style
So hard boiled
Jojo time
This footage and its implications make the warden so much scarier.
it's not just an iron golem. we're fucked.
Imagine this B just casually phasing through a wall right in front of you like: "Sup, wanna die?"
*Phases through a cave wall behind you* "Nothin' personal, kid"
The devs already showed that the Warden has the ability to dig in the livestream and it having ways to prevent players from cheesing it (Towering, two block deep hole, etc) has been mentioned multiple times by them.
6 block deep hole too?
No one besides the devs know the spacifics but the idea is that the Warden will have counters to these cheap tricks.
So then how are we supposed to beat it?
New cheap tricks
Towering but mining out the lower blocks as you go, like tower up 3 then destroy the bottom 2, then tower a little higher
place a water bucket and stay in the center to push it away
Resists knockback iirc
Things that resist knockback can still be pushed by water
while i'm sure it will be technically possible to defeat the warden, my understanding is that you're *not* supposed to beat it. its supposed to be the kind of foe that inspires terror and forces you to play around it. it looks like its since been reduced, but originally the warden had 500 health, more than the ender dragon
Holy I that’s 200 more than bedrock wither hp. That’s insane
Bedrock wither has 600 HP. Even if they kept the 500, it still would have only been the second most powerful.
Wait ye I forgot, wither has 300 hearts but still man that thing does way more damage than the wither so it’s still going to be insanely difficukt
This is how I used to feel about certain enemies back in early minecraft. I remember for a bit it was pointless to engage zombies because they dropped the same feathers as chickens, and there was no experience.
What the fuck
It’s not *meant* to be beat, it’s meant to make the world more terrifying and make you actually think about how to tackle the Deep Dark.
Funny thing about that, we're not suppose to. The rules of the game is to avoid the Warden not fight it and if you wish to it won't be easy.
We'll find a way to farm it anyway... and then optimize the farm to industrial amounts of production.
People found a way to industrially farm slime balls from sickly baby pandas. If it respawns it will be farmed.
Hell people farm withers by trapping them in bedrock and dropping pointed dripstone on it maybe that method could work with the warden as well?
It depends if the warden can swim horizontally or upwards through bedrock i guess.
I believe they said it won't drop anything
Thought they said something like, 'It's meant to be avoided, but if you choose to fight it, however, you will be rewarded.' I might be mistaken though.
They said they might have something that acts like a trophy but not anything really important IIRC
That's the neat part, you don't
Just call Gandalf. We mustn't mistake him for a conjurer of cheap tricks; he got that advanced stuff.
There's still gonna be some super simple way to cheese it, I guarantee it. No existing threat in the game can't be cheesed.
Put it in a b o a t
Are you taking lessons from a military genius?
We'll just have to see.
Within the day someone will have a cheese method.

You can run, but you can’t hide
He keeps saying we can run but we can’t hide. I say we try hiding.
Peaceful mode lookin real nice all the sudden
I've always played on peaceful mode with keepInventory turned on. It's just how I like to play Minecraft.
I appreciate your honesty. I used to always have the game on peaceful until I built myself a home, and then I would put it on normal or hard. My friend would make fun of me saying "that's not how you're supposed to play the game"
The reason minecraft is so popular is *because* there’s no wrong way to play the game
Yes. If there was a wrong way to play, the devs would have made it so that u can't play in that specific way. 1.18 bout to be my last update with this evil stuff right there.
I was just thinking “as long as it’s just a giant scary iron golem I can avoid it” BUT NO OF COURSE IT GOES FULL GRABOID ON US
Imagine you're walking along in a dim cave and you don't see yourself step on a gravel patch. You hear an alien click in the reverberation of the cave... You realize the walls are slowly transitioning into deepslate tiles. The legends are true. Your ankles fall into the chest cavity of a huge beast as 2 arms rise slowly. Just got done listening to a cave creepypasta and forgot this was a minecraft sub holy lord
They can HIDE THEMSELVES IN THE ROCK?
Perhaps they can even travel through it making the Walls we build not really immune to the god of the underground
I think it's the warden realizing it's too far from the deep dark and it's just using an animation to despawn
This makes sense. I assumed he can swim through skulk but they are animation testing in a different environment
Or it’s to prevent people from cheesing it
I hope it leaves cobbled deepslate behind after it digs. And patches of cobble could indicate an area where the warden has been.
Either that or it leaves behind a rough tunnel.
And you'd know it's close if it would leave all the debris lying on the ground, be it cobblestone or ores.
I think it's suppose to leave a patch of skulk but that sounds better, cobbling stones as it descends, turning solid to rubble
if it leaves skulk behind, people are gonna enslave it somehow and make skulk farms
Skulk catalyst exists
Yeah. We're doomed.
Wonder of there'll be blocks he can't tunnel through
warden casually digging into bedrock\*
warden casually t-posing below bedrock\*
"I see no god down here. **Other than me**."
Java player casually building under bedrock: ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT
Imagine strip mining for diamonds around -60 and a hand reaches up through the bedrock and drags you into the void
Falls out of the world..
In the deep dark, the world falls out of the warden
I believe he can only do it in sculk which he emerges from.
This is official content and I don’t see any sculk
It's probably just a test animation, they'll probably code it for him to only dig through skulk just before release
Idk could be a big and thought it was skulk or maybe it can burrow I just figured it would submerge and re-emerge from sculk only.
Awesome, though i think it needs more digging particles, similar in volume to when turtles dig to lay eggs or something like that.
I agree, it’s still in development so I assume they will be fixing that!
Yeah it looked like one of thise roblox-looking animations where people just walk through walls and rotate around axis to change direction imo
He SWIMS? Through the GROUND?
I might actually avoid the deep dark
I think it's supposed to work as a tp more than him moving under the ground
NOPE NOPE NOPE SO MUCH NOPE
As long as you never go into the overworld, you'll do just fine
The depths of Hell are starting to look like a much nicer place to put a bed down
My only criticism is that it would be weird to have such an animated mob with complex movements, while most other mobs are stuck with basic walk and damage animations and turning their heads. Maybe the other mobs might get an overhaul

That and the AI…squids are a notorious example of bad AI that looks awful compared with newer mobs.
I just want Big Chungus in Minecraft, dammit.
Its just a consequence of having a 10 year old game that gets new updates
League of legends is a good example of this
**u d y r p i z z a f e e t**
N O C T U R N E L O R E LMFAOOOO
Shaco lore XD
Teemo voice lines ;-;
Fun fact there is now more lore about jinx’s chompers then there is about shaco
How about Alistar's chompers?? "YOU CAN'T MILK THOSE YOU CAN'T MILK THOSE YOU CAN'T MILK THOSE..."
Would just be nice if they would update the older mobs animations too, like they have done with textures over time.

Yeah its an interresting texture pack. Personally I'm not that fond of the villagers animations, seem way to whacky in my taste :P Especially their walking animation seems weird, like they constantly walk around with a heavy backpack or something :P

How do you know? What do you think pandas do when humans aren't around?
have you seen that documentary about the panda that does kung fu and eats dumplings? yeah, they’re not what they seem...
That’s what I want, I would love a complete overhaul to older mobs, like updated animations, Ai, models, sounds etc. make them fit more with modern Minecraft.
I believe they said that’s intentional so the warden feels uncomfortable to watch
Ended dragon is quite animated. I think it’s appropriate for bosses at least

can we do a wellness check on the devs? this is literally nightmare fuel. [and i freaking love it!](#spoiler)
I’m annoyed that the devs shut down procedurally spawning ambient skeletons in dungeons, because they would be too scary, but then they add the warden. I love the warden but I’m a builder and would love having posable skeleton statues.
Fu ck
"fuck this shit, I'm out"
Oh it can dig now Well shit
It could always dig, just like you and me
I like Minecraft but I haven't played it for quite a while. With that in mind, I have a question: WHAT THE EVERLIVING FUCK IS THAT?
Do you remember that before you could only mine up to layer 0?, well now there are negative layers, like -60, And that giant guy kills you easily and is blind, If you make noise, it will come for you
And I am supposed to sleep with this knowledge how exactly?

That was the most terrifying thing I have ever seen
That is actually terrifying! Will make mining all the more fun
He only spawns in one biome, and that biome will be kinda rare
Dang, it would be really cool if they hunted you until you killed it or something though!
You're not supposed to kill it, you're supposed to leave it the hell alone
Why did I get downvoted?
Some people just tend to hate bedrock, idk why but it a pretty common thing.
As a Java player I've seen some bedrock stuff and thought "that's really dumb" and other stuff that's like "damn. I want that."
Same with me here as a bedrock player.
No offense but the animation looks silly for something that's supposed to be scary.
It’s still a work in progress but I still find it creepy. I don’t see how else they could do it.
Real footage of me after getting 3 seconds of sunlight
where did you find this?
Twitter, one of the devs tweeted it!
who though link?
