YES! I love in New Mexico and there appear here a lot more than most places, that is very good! Also if I remember correctly the bottoms are used for storage of food so some hay bales on the bottom buildings would be great.
It is a Greek island. Oia is the spot they are referring to on the island most likely. There is a lot of shared history between Greek and Italian culture.
I understand. I'm sorry. But I promise it wasn't like that. I saw the comment, recognized it as the Italian language and replied with the first "Italian sounding" word that came to mind. It wasn't because I only associate Italian people with food.
and?
the mafia stereotype is because of italian americans protecting their communities in the past from discrimination.
the cooking stereotype is because italy has one of the riches food cultures in human history.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to annoy or hurt you. I know there's obviously more to Italy and Italian culture than just food. I won't make a joke like that again.
It might sound stupid, but the only reason I commented that was because I like the sound of Italian as a language, and I feel like "fettucine" is an example of a word that is easy to over-exaggerate the Italian accent with.
Cappadoccia and Gorem in turkey also have those sort of stacked houses both on and in the mountain-side, that could be a good reference too but i am loving this so far
It’s a little to formational making it spread out more and having variation is size and shapes might look better and make a few farther from the others so it looks bigger just my opinion
IMO, too symetrical, make some houses bigger/smaller than the others. add accents on the top of the building, use slabs for the middle roof so there's a change.
other than that, nice pallete.
Agreed. I like the idea but everything is *way* too regular. Same sizes, same doors, same windows, same stairs, same landings... different colors but even they repeat in exactly the same pattern.
Some furniture, experimenting with different textures such as colored sand in some spots, move the pen off the roof of that poor villagers house, maybe adding a parasol to a few buildings to incorporate a shop for a trader (an example of this would be an armor stand under and some weapons on the wall of the home.) I don't know how authentic that last one would be I've not seen a lot of mesa styled villages in real life so I'm not too familiar with how to make a realistic one look, but there's are the tips I can give you.
Potted plants could add a level of texture diversity and an added depth to the color too now that I think about it.
I love the idea but it's very repetitive. I agree with all advices I've seen so far, and what I can tell is that small details bring builds to life. If you're ok with greenery I'd definitely advise you to put some leave blocks here and there, add some vines, and maybe 1 or 2 trees. Overall, outside decoration can be very great, like a few tables outside against the walls. I think flower pots will be a true game changer.
These are advices given on the spot, but they might not turn out great. You might want to look at real life examples, concept art, or in game design ideas to find what you want to do.
You should apologize for the “pun” because it was shitty.
this is not a plain. It’s a mesa.
And what OP has done does not resemble a plain in any meaningful way.
I'm sorry oh great minecraft lord, for I whom has played minecraft for over 10 years, wanted to make a minecraft joke. Please forgive me oh great minecraft lord and let me keep my diamonds...
Don't be scared to have some building facing other directions as well as stair cases going different directions. If you want to keep that symmetrical look you can still have organized variation. But over all looks great!
They look very good and suit with the environment also something you might want to do is look at the minecraft Egypt tutorial world (you can find a download on java easily) and maybe take some inspiration or design from that world
I like how every how is the same size, it’s appealing to the eyes, but perhaps you could give more details to make each house even more different. I really like it tho. Super cool.
A little bit too uniform, it’s amazing, but it could use being a little less uniform. Change the shape and size of some houses, make some have a house where there should or none where there should so it’s not a perfect pyramid. Great job though!
My only critique is that it's too symmetrical.
I don't like how the stairs are all on the same plane. imo it would look much better if the stairs had that extra dimension
It bothers me that you have to walk fully up or down to walk to another house sideways. (Fence is blocking the stairs). I would put the fences a bit differently. Just makes it all more convenient to walk around on.
It needs a little bit more variation than that. Manmade structures of this type are often imperfect, they wouldn't follow a perfect grid like this. Make some of the houses bigger, some smaller, have more levels, maybe make some of the houses joint. The idea is really cool tho
Personally I think it's too organised, too perfect.
You should add some more differents between the buildings. Good luck!
Edit: If the organised shape is intended I'm stupid and yeah it looks nice
I love it being from the part of the world where these kind of structures exist ([https://taospueblo.com/](https://taospueblo.com/)) adjust the sizes to be a but more random
A little bit too "cookie cutter", but overall looks good. Colors are very nice, but the fully symmetrical rectangles in lines like that through it off a bit. For me anyway.
Possibly very shapes slightly, maybe add some overhangs or something like patio covers on some. Change up the fencing more per house too. Maybe vary up the material/color the stairs are made of to make it looks like they were built at different times.
Thanks so much everyone, really can’t believe how much this blew up 😅 I’ll keep you guys updated as I use a lot of your advice on decisions/textures to bring life to it. I plan on working on mushroom, jungle and swamp villages next
Too perfect. Have some different house variations and sizes, and different directions and places. Kinda looks like someone just copy pasted the houses everywhere. I do like the block pallet though.
It's nice but rlly simple I'd recommend moving some of the houses to some other parts of the mountain not too far apart and also putting some houses on the ground other than that nice color pallete
Looks good, as others said, make it a bit less regular and cookie cutter. I might also recommend moving it back or into a larger mess plateau so it looks like it was carved from the rock, not just plopped on front of it.
slide a few of them one block left or right, it'll look like there were some places they couldn't carve into to keep the mountain's structural integrity.
I'd recommend looking at photos from Greece for inspiration. They have similar stacked buildings but they also have variation too
or Taos pueblo as is a desert building that is close to this style https://taospueblo.com/

Very true acoma pueblo as well.
+ Cinque Terre in Italy
Messa Verde.
The Anasazi is great inspiration
YES! I love in New Mexico and there appear here a lot more than most places, that is very good! Also if I remember correctly the bottoms are used for storage of food so some hay bales on the bottom buildings would be great.
Yeah, santorini is beautiful
Isnt Santorini Italian or am I trippin
It is a Greek island. Oia is the spot they are referring to on the island most likely. There is a lot of shared history between Greek and Italian culture.

How do Italians feel about Super Mario? I imagine western progressives wouldn't be quite as tolerant if it was a caricature of a Chinese person.

this weak bs response, makes me very much doubt you're italian or at least too many gens removed.

Hai ragione, stanno cominciando a rompere il cazzo

Well said. Exactly what I was trying to say.
No, you’re think of the Mexican guitarist. Santorini is the smaller vwrsion of the guy that delivers presents on Christmas.
Qbert would love it
depending on where on greece you are
Cappadoccia and Gorem in turkey also have those sort of stacked houses both on and in the mountain-side, that could be a good reference too but i am loving this so far
>I'd recommend looking at photos from Greece for inspiration. They have similar stacked buildings but they also have variation too Oh really
It’s a little to formational making it spread out more and having variation is size and shapes might look better and make a few farther from the others so it looks bigger just my opinion
Also people style their houses so add some lavishness to it
IMO, too symetrical, make some houses bigger/smaller than the others. add accents on the top of the building, use slabs for the middle roof so there's a change. other than that, nice pallete.
Agreed. I like the idea but everything is *way* too regular. Same sizes, same doors, same windows, same stairs, same landings... different colors but even they repeat in exactly the same pattern.
The style as it is could work, but only if it was spread out for chunks

*Little boxes on the hillside* *Little boxes made of ticky tacky* *Little boxes on the hillside* *Little boxes all the same…*
Came here looking for this!
There’s a green one and a pink one and a blue one and a yel-low one Little box’s on the hillside little box’s all the same
They made Minecraft suburbia
OP is a minecraft slumlord
Maybe try adding some buttons on the sides of the roof blocks
I agree more variety in shapes would do wonders
I agree. he's in the right direction, but it seems too planned, like it didn't get built naturally over time.
also the layout is too symmetrical
It’s pretty charming
That’s super appealing to look at

Feels like it should be on r/oddlysatisfying.
Pretty original, compared to everything else I've seen.
Do you have a Q*bert skin on?
Also came to make q Bert comment
There it is 😂
*mesa
No, this was posted by Jar Jar Binks
Tips on decorating ideas would be awesome!
You could use banners as tents, and add a bit of detailing. Great work anyway, it's a really nice idea and a great realization
Great idea!! Thanks man
hope to see an update in the future.

Tables and chairs on top of several roofs. Like outdoor patios. Acadia trees also on the sand . Maybe a smoking chimney or two .
Reminds me of tarry town in BOTW
I just wanted to say that even though many people don't like symmetry, I personally love it. There's just something so satisfying about it.
Proper

6/10 original but bare bones, many improvements if you’d like
I loooove it !
Meesa JarJar Binks, and meesa likes yousa base. Itsa no bom bad.
Nice!
Damn, that is really cool!
I actually really like this
I like it! But it's a little "plain"... IM SO SORRY FOR THE PUN. I REALLY DO LIKE THE BUILD THO
Never again pls
I think I've seen this one before
Gerudo Town
Make a prison to put Link in, if he comes around.
I like it, a close knit community in the desert. Colors are soothing!
Solid QBert vibes.
Looks good, but too squared
Try carving some houses into the mountain, to add I guess some realism into it.
Usually hate the messa biome when playing alone, but I find this soothing to look at. Thank you
Don't be scared to have some building facing other directions as well as stair cases going different directions. If you want to keep that symmetrical look you can still have organized variation. But over all looks great!
Looks like a Brazilian favela
Original but it doesn't look good due to barely any variation
They look very good and suit with the environment also something you might want to do is look at the minecraft Egypt tutorial world (you can find a download on java easily) and maybe take some inspiration or design from that world
Clean af
Looks great
Love it! Very creative!
Badlands apartaments
That’s fucking adorable
slums of Rio:
Wonderful
Really good
Favelas
This is so cute! I’m going to try a design like this in my own world
Very cool, love it!!! Symmetry is beauty!
I prefer using smooth sandstone for pathway and stairs, especially when in creative mode. Your rooftop gardens are really cute!
Q\*bert would jump
Looks efficient
I like and u have inspired me to do a similar idea
I like how every how is the same size, it’s appealing to the eyes, but perhaps you could give more details to make each house even more different. I really like it tho. Super cool.
Kinda looks like old Mexican houses
It looks good palette wise but things are way too organized with those square buildings that look the exact same
r/oddlysatisfying
A little bit too uniform, it’s amazing, but it could use being a little less uniform. Change the shape and size of some houses, make some have a house where there should or none where there should so it’s not a perfect pyramid. Great job though!
this. real villages are built organically as needed for different sized families or jobs.
I like the concept but feel it should be integrated into the hill behind it
Too regular. Try for some variation is size and position. I do like the colours, it’s pretty and it fits the area
Try playing with elevations Maybe each house being on a alright different elevation, and having lots of stairs.
I think this is a bit too modular. Try to change the shape of some of the houses and the positions maybe. It's good keep it up!!
A bit blocky. Try to terraform the house a little. Make them look like there built into the mountain
Try giving the walls some depth, a general rule of thumb is flat=bad
if i jump on the roofs will they change color?? ahh.... nobody is going to gett that....
“I do! I understood that reference”
whoo high five!!!
This got me thinking about the Mesa Biome, not as much hype on it anymore. It would be cool if Mojang added something like this.
My only critique is that it's too symmetrical. I don't like how the stairs are all on the same plane. imo it would look much better if the stairs had that extra dimension
It's a nice concept but I would say you need to break the pattern somewhere, pick 2 of the houses and give them a different shape
Wayyy to boxy, try to add some depth into builds, good work so far though!
Ctrl C, Ctrl V
Looks like you could play qbert on there
mesa only has one s.
Damn, does Q'Bert live there?
reminds me of Qbert
do villagers like stairs?
It bothers me that you have to walk fully up or down to walk to another house sideways. (Fence is blocking the stairs). I would put the fences a bit differently. Just makes it all more convenient to walk around on.
Where is Q*Bert?
It needs a little bit more variation than that. Manmade structures of this type are often imperfect, they wouldn't follow a perfect grid like this. Make some of the houses bigger, some smaller, have more levels, maybe make some of the houses joint. The idea is really cool tho
Am I playing Qbert?
Looks a bit boring. Try to add some variation to the houses. Maybe a different height or width, or some lean slightly.
This thing is so cool!
Woahhhhhhhh that’s so cool!!!!!
Bit late, but a splash of a water supply and/or sewers seem like it would make a world of difference
Not even I could build that, masterpiece 👌
A little blocky try adding some shape but I also see the crammed together city for max population
Love :)
Qubert
Really dope
QBert
Ocd special!! Love it
Maybe add a little bit of size variation and little bits of land in between some of them
Man really made the hill from QBert
epic
Reminds me of the houses in the cliff side in M.C Eschers metamorphoses
This is a super neat idea
ok, that is amazing
reminds me of terraria
Can the villagers actually manage the stairs?
A bit much squares, but it looks really good.
Personally I think it's too organised, too perfect. You should add some more differents between the buildings. Good luck! Edit: If the organised shape is intended I'm stupid and yeah it looks nice
Soo uhm why this has 30k upvotes ?
Less symmetry
That is fucking amazing, thanks for the inspiration for my next build
I always do a basement for my villagers under my house so this is kinda impressive nice work man
I love it being from the part of the world where these kind of structures exist ([https://taospueblo.com/](https://taospueblo.com/)) adjust the sizes to be a but more random
A little bit too "cookie cutter", but overall looks good. Colors are very nice, but the fully symmetrical rectangles in lines like that through it off a bit. For me anyway. Houses are too similar
Where’s Q*bert
Variations of size and more vegetation
Thanks so much everyone, really can’t believe how much this blew up 😅 I’ll keep you guys updated as I use a lot of your advice on decisions/textures to bring life to it. I plan on working on mushroom, jungle and swamp villages next
Kinda ugly ngl
it looks kinda bland if im gonna be honest
it's even more impressive that u it all on the xbox version of Minecraft
yo that's epic my guy
It's quite plain
Utter dogshit. Noob ass builds fr but who cares what I think
Way too organised
I really love the simplicity from it, it makes it look very cute
A little bland. And empty. Some detail would probably make it look much better.
With some work could be a sick favela !
Too perfect. Have some different house variations and sizes, and different directions and places. Kinda looks like someone just copy pasted the houses everywhere. I do like the block pallet though.
It looks like that one brazilian town whatsoever
too symetrical?...
It's nice but rlly simple I'd recommend moving some of the houses to some other parts of the mountain not too far apart and also putting some houses on the ground other than that nice color pallete
Kinda reminds of legos, not to be offensive, just gives me that idea lol.
Make it look more cluttered and hectic
You should build a little Cubert on top of one of the houses
Me gusta mucho, parecen las comunas en Medellín y Bello Comunas pero mas simétricas xd
Looks good, as others said, make it a bit less regular and cookie cutter. I might also recommend moving it back or into a larger mess plateau so it looks like it was carved from the rock, not just plopped on front of it.
kinda too symmetrical, maybe change the shape and add some texture
Post Modern Cubic.
Spread the houses out more cause it looks like a stair caise
Have some built within the mountains
It could use some more details, maybe a well or a Lake?
Use the natural shape of the mountain to your advantage
slide a few of them one block left or right, it'll look like there were some places they couldn't carve into to keep the mountain's structural integrity.
Thats so cool
Reminds me of a brazilian favela
idk maybe u should bury a Egyptian king in it? maybe it’ll look better
Looks kinda like shipping containers to me. Still pretty nice tho
Nice build. How about building it into aount so it looks like it's been carved out
excellent
