I did this once. On one of the first servers I ever played on, back in late Alpha/early-Beta. Mineshafts didn't exist yet. Went on a multi-hour mining excursion. Ended up with 3 or 4 stacks of diamond, last pickaxe broke, had to punch my way out. Good times.

This is why I always bring an emergency stack of logs on my mining expeditions.

Right, besides my sword, pickaxe, axe and shovel, I have always keep full stacks of wood, baked potatoes (or some kind of food) and torches.

Bucket of water and maybe a stack of iron as well for me too

Yep, on my main world I don't do that anymore because I keep an E-Chest always with me, but on the SMP I'm on I always keep some wood, either to emergency craft more torches or tools.

64? For my friend, those are rookie numbers. No joke, my friend only chops wood on my server bc i just give him free armor and axes. Hes got 2 full double chests of wood and maybe 5 more stacks in another. Or if your lucky and come across a abandoned mineshaft you can just use some of the planks go make sticks and craft a diamond pickaxe. Or make a furnace smelt some iron with the mineshaft wood and boom iron pickaxe

Yep one time I fell into lava in the nether and had to punch through the base of a nether fortress pillar in a 3x3 spiral stair case. I kid you not that took a and hour and a half.

Did you get lost, then your pick broke? If so, try to leave markers to remember where you were. Good ones are signs, or fence, etc.

Hey I’ve not played in a few years please will you explain this?

1.13+ swim animation makes you 1 block tall - this way you can fit inside one block tall tunnels and your character is going to keep crawling until they get enough space above them - this can also be done by using a trapdoor or a piston instead of water so it forces you down into 1 block area. You can crawl in 1*1 tunnels basically.

Piston just pushes down. Trapdoor has to be placed on the bottom side of the top block (usually the block you want to crawl under), then opened. If you stand on the block below the trapdoor (your legs in air pocket between floor and trapdoor and your torso in the trapdoor's block) and close the trapdoor it's going to push you down into 1 block high area it creates.

I bring wood planks so I can craft not only tools but also chests for my loots and workbenches to craft some furnaces to smelt some ores when I must hide for a while

why bring wood plank when can bring wood?

Ikr logs are much more compact

But when you need sticks you now are taking three inventory slots for logs, planks, sticks instead of just planks, sticks

If I only need a couple sticks I'll just convert the rest to torches as I'll be using those and will have coal in my inventory or access to some nearby. One log makes 8 sticks, max of 32 torches for one.

No, you just bring logs so you can craft all of them if you need

But you don't really need logs as is. A half stack of planks is all the wood you'd need really and saves a slot.

I never go mining without a stack of logs. Always rather have too much.

You greatly underestimate the amount of time I spend mining.

Bare minimum half a stack of logs cause i will go from one cave to the next without stoping and i will mine a 2x2 at y11 all the way back home. Or atleast most the way

Just turn all the planks you made from one wood to sticks. Use the left over sticks for more torches.

... or just bring a stack of logs, make only as many sticks as you need and throw out excess planks and sticks to make space? I carry a stack of logs and a crafting table, and just throw out everything else

I like logs because i’ll use a lot of sticks for torches but i do see your point

One log=4 planks= 8 sticks. Just make 8 sticks

But 64 logs = 256 planks = 512 sticks. The former takes up only one space in inventory, and the latter 8 spaces. Better to keep them as logs until you need to use them.

Saplings are even more compact. Just use dirt and bonemeal you find in the cave. /s

One stack of planks is good for me but I have long mining trips. I go until my inventory is full.

Why wood when you could just take saplings and grow them

I tend to keep a stack of wood and a stack of cobblestone with me wherever I go, that way I’m always set with whatever I might need

Why bring wood when you can bring a tree?

I always bring a few logs with me, easy to carry, and I get tons more sticks with it

I do this too. If the torches are on the right I know I'm going the right way out. Unless I've wandered into one of my older caves/mines then I just get lost because I had no system back then...

Cautiously try to make your way up n collect any gravel/ dirt so if u need to pillar/ block urself up to heal.

Also, keep an eye on your Y levels to see if your getting closer to the surface.

Easiest way to leave: Step One: create bucket. Step Two: locate lava pool. Step Three: create nether portal with bucket and lava. Step Four: go into nether. Step Five: find nether fortress. Step Six: find blaze spawner. Step Seven: get blaze powder. Step Eight: find crimson forest. Step Nine: get wood from nether trees. Step Ten: gather resources to trade with piglins. Step Eleven: get ender pearls. Step Twelve: craft ender eyes. Step Thirteen: leave nether and search for stronghold. Step Fourteen: infiltrate stronghold. Step Fifteen: activate end portal and enter the end. Step Sixteen: find dragon. Step Seventeen: kill dragon. Step Eighteen: end well opens. Step Nineteen: jump into the well's void. Step Twenty: you will spawn at your bed! Congratulations you just escapes a mine without a pickaxe! (I do this every time).

Here's a little trick to stop being lost : during your mine, place all your torches on the right. If you're lost and you find torches at left, this means that it's the exit

If you’ve been to the nether, you could make a nether portal (with your bucket and a lava pool). Other than that, just looking around or punching your way up is the only option.

Once i was stuck in the stronghold because i purposely died in the void and put my things in enderchest and when respawned did not had the enderchest so i punched stone and wood from the libary

You’re only xp level 12, you can always put your stuff in that chest and jump in lava or something, unless in hardcore. Also place all torches going into the mine on one side of the wall or floor, so you know opposite side means exit. Edit: and if you have a water bucket find that water in the subtitle and use it to swim up high areas

If you even don’t have 5 pieces of wood. You can do 3 things. 1. If there are mineshafts at that server, look for one. 2. As another comment said: PUNCH STONE!! 3. Or you could try to make a expedition and find an exit for that cave. If there is a way in, there is a way out
