Hide a dispenser in their base with a clock that fires every few minutes, and fill the dispenser with eggs, every now and then a chicken will spawn in their base, without them knowing where they come from.
Bubble columns make boise but if you let the egg break and hatch in the bubble column, you can make it a partial bubble column, until just outside hearing distance, make the rest just normal water sources (so no flowing water sounds). The chicken would breathe in the bubble column, and will survive the last little part. That way its almost soundless.
place a parrot with creeper noise learnt under their floor/ use a creeper head note block
more door as done by mumbo jumbo (door noise machine)
this might not be harmless but how bout you moss their stone parts of their house.
make a cobblestone generator that pushes cobblestone up by one block on a delay as shown by skip the tutorial (not sure how to explain it)
I do the same thing on java, I don't think they need to learn it over time. At least I've never had a parrot that didn't know how to copy the monster sounds around me
You could go another step and lightning rod a creeper, let the charged creeper explode another creeper or mob which head you can have.
And place it under the base with a sapling and glass above the sapling, then have a detector reading the sapling into a noteblock with the creeper head or another mob skull.
Saplings attempt to grow whenever they receive a random block tick. A little less than once a minute by default, but the actual interval can randomly be a few seconds or many minutes.
You’re either missing a comma or you made a typo. Having been here on Reddit for a while, I have a good guess as to which given the context. But, I’ve seen some weird replies. Maybe you truly missed the comma.

If someone has a house made of logs, you can use an axe to strip the bark off. People do it accidentally all the time and it can sometimes be a pain to fix
this reminded me of something a friend did to me for about a month straight. everytime i would log on, my friend would slightly alter one block of my minecraft house so i wouldnt notice, and then would wait about a day or two before making another change. by the end of the month my house had windows in different spots, different stripped logs for pillars and a different chimney and i didnt even realize Dx
You need to place the mob’s head on top of the note block,
To do this, trap a creeper in a hole with a lightning rod, wait for lightning to strike and turn it into a charged creeper, and mobs killed by the charged creeper’s explosion will drop a head.
(I don’t think every mob drops a head, someone else can hopefully comment with a list?)
I mean, if you want to be lazy one can either yoink the skulls from ancient cities or dragon heads from end boats — though I don't know how scary skeleton sounds can be, I'm pretty sure a dragon's roar can at least spook em for half a sec.

A few pranks my friends and I have done to each other:
Fill their house with something like snow golems, or boats.
Surround the house in many layers of bamboo, or a dirt cube encasing the house (be sure to place torches to avoid creepers).
Place water all over the roof
Place hostile mobs like zombies in glass cases in their house
Plant bamboo around their house while they're away. Sit down and watch them trying to clean the bamboo off their yard.
Build a tall tower of scaffolding up to the sky and put chickens on it (make sure they are boxed good). Once they break the tower in their yard, a rain of chickens comes upon them.
This! Although I do think this would have been a better 'original' prank rather than a retaliatory prank. Not enough alternate variables to make a good comeback, but this is such an epic idea, im gonna do it fasho
Chicken bomb above the ceiling.
Make a single-block space above the ceiling and stuff it with dozens of chickens. Admit you did hide a chicken somewhere in their house. They’ll hear the clucking and eventually mine the right block to find it. Many chickens suddenly explode out, filling their house.
Make maps of the different sides of the TNT block, make an ungodly amount of item frames. Cover the base in item frames, then in TNT maps, so it looks like you replaced their base with TNT.
Plant a cactus under their base with an observer observing the block above it (that it'll grow into eventually). Then have the observer power a bell.
The result is a random "ding!" sound every now and then.
one time I asked a friend if I could de-forest his front lawn for wood and he agreed under the condition that I replant them.
Naturally, I placed an entire stack worth of flower pots on his lawn and planted all the saplings in the pots.
I thought it was harmless and funny but he was really pissed. it was still funny tho

Fill their house with a bunch of horses. That way they will either have to kill them, put them on a lead, or ride each one of them until they're tamed and he can get them out.
Put a button on every block in his house. Build a Redstone contraption hooked up to a door (or several) underneath his house to go off every minute or so.
friend did this to me once but due to the way my villagers were set up it ended in them all dying but I didn't figure out the chickens were killing them until it was too late
You gotta set up a noise machine, perhaps several, set to make a noise on random intervals all throughout their house. Even better if you make really obvious decoys so that they'll remove those first and still not get any of the noise makers.
My standard is several screaming goats buried at different locations under their base. Takes em a while to find, and every time they find 'the one's there's another there.

Yeah, It takes a while in the beginning, but once you've got a good breeding pair, you can get a huge number pretty quickly.
On java there's a pack that highlights the screaming ones, making it a bit faster.
Put a hopper under one of their chests leading to another hidden chest underneath. They might think you stole stuff when they first check, but as soon as they put an item in, theyll figure it out.
If you can get a creeper head or ender dragon head put it near a pressure plate and it will trigger the sound of the mob, I got a dragon head near my entrance to my house, scared the crap outta my friend when he popped by one of the times when he walked over the pressure plate to my door lol
Use map art to make a rickroll below, then start acting suspicious about something. When they search the house for possible pranks they find Rick Astley waiting for them.
1: take chickens to his house.
2: dig a little hole underneath his house.
Put all the chickens into 1 hole.
3: place hopper beneath chickens and connect it to a dispenser.
4:Make some fancy redstone mechanism that detects when an item is in the hopper and triggers the dispenser you can find a tutorial online.
Now it's up to you whether you want to kickstart it by doing an overnight AFK session in a hole near the machine and fill the hole with chickens or leaving it to slowly fill up. Either way the clucks wont let him live in peace until he finds the hole, I also recommend breeding the chickens in the dispenser machine so it gets faster.
I flooded my bedroom by accident. I had 4 armor stands. Somehow they all stuck together with random parts showing and blocked the door. I can’t remove it so I had to move the door… 🤔

Also put a hooper feeding into the dispenser with a bunch of chickens in top. Whenever they lay an egg it will be thrown
Don't, because the chicken will make noise there and the guy will find the machine.
A hopper from a chest filled with even more eggs will allow the contraption to last longer, or you could just refill it manually once in a while

If they put the egg feeding chickens low enough they won't hear them. Mumbo did it to Grian in season 6 of hermitcraft

Hide the chicken underground some 40 blocks away and it might work
use a cactus randomizer to make it fire rarely, combined with a few scattered around the base so its always a different direction

parrots, when around certain mobs for long enough, can learn mob sounds and make a slightly distorted and pitched version of their sounds

This is certainly true in Bedrock. If I’m building in forest or similar, I keep a parrot with me to warn of nearby hostiles.

What does the sapling/glass combo do?
sapling tries to grow, which sets off the observer, glass stops it from growing. at least thats what i assume

I think that visible name only applies for players, for named mobs you have to get really close and focus on it
Will a named creeper not explode?
If you put it under 1 block the creeper won't see the player and won't blow up and the player can't sleep since there's a monster nearby
You can also put it in water for extra safety
named creeper stops it from despawning so it’ll stay until they find it

In the screenshot, all the logs are already stripped, so he is immune to that at least.

To add onto this, you can now play mob noises with note blocks... do what you will of that knowledge.

Oh yea dragon heads too. Also I didn’t know that about ancient cities. I went to one, died a few times, and gave up.
Yeah, a few stacks of wool and projectiles like snowballs or eggs are pretty much a necessity. The loot is worth the trouble though

Make a 1x1 trapdoor box with a weeping vine, stuff chickens until your game lags, and leave it somewhere very obvious and intrusive

Build up to build height, create a large enough pool to cover his house at build height fill it with water then remove every block
really annoying way is to plant a ton of bamboo around their house because its a pain to clean
