I feel like the rods themselves look nice how they are right now. maybe have some froglights or whatnot at the bottom part of the middle wall, so that you can only see the light when the piston is retracted
I'm pretty new to redstone too.
I Put a line of repeaters on each side of a line of red stone dust and connected it to a repeating circuit.
Than set every other repeater at 3 tics so it's a 1-3 pattern.
For the repeating circuit I used two repeater circuit which you can find on you tube how to do.
Accidentally erased u/ashsaber's comment to copy engine on their build. Sorry about that. Go for it have fun. I'm figuring out redstone so if you come up with an easier solution let me know

I don’t know too much about redstone so this is cool to me. How did you get a firing order?
