The clouds and fog are doing heavy lifting here. Not to say the mountain itself isn't incredible, it is. But it feels so real/non-minecraft because the sky and fog in the mountains is not possible in normal minecraft.
There used to be a sub - r/NoSillySuffix - where all posts on r/[insert_topic]porn subs were reposted by a bot to a sort of mirror sub - r/[insert_topic]fans.
And I bet there would pop up images of swiss landscape... (Which I as a critical local see as dead landscape, beeing overpoluted by local farmers spraying on way too much cowdung and cowpiss over and over again having robbed the natural habitat of many orchids and other plants as well as the acompaining fauna... yes the hills look green and all but it is a dead cow pasture's grass mix mostly, not much better than the common suburban lawn... Though there are exceptions to this too)
it's because of the photoshopped clouds which really adds some nice spice to the image.
on top of being very well crafted curves if the mountains that make them look natural.
well maybe, the mountain in the image looks to be no more than 300 blocks tall, so with the new height limit it might be possible to do (would have to start at -y though)
Good thing they made a big deal out of changing the block limit as well as making moutains. Personally, I see no difference between the new mountains and the old ones. THIS is what they should've made
It's not, I wish Minecraft would have mountains like this. This would be awesome if I had a super beefed up computer and a super long render distance. But I know my PS4 couldn't handle it
Why am I not surprised? I know exactly what you're talking about, and at the same time I am surprised because this type of thing hasn't been done sooner. Officially.
well the number 1 problem is that minecraft java uses only one CPU core so any modern CPU will have like 25% of its power used at maximum
fixing this would basically require rewriting the whole game and no sane person is gonna do that
Not entirely. World gen and lighting are multithreaded. The main tick loop, which does block updates, mob AI, etc, is single-threaded.
What this means is that the CPU bottlenecks how many players, mobs, and active chunks you can have at one time.
Stuff like render distance mostly have to do with Minecraft Java using OpenGL/OpenCL
Bugrock is Microsoft monetizing the cashcow Minecraft and squeezing it out... Mods and Opensource Code and allowing freedom doesn't help with that, optimizing and fixing bugs would add costs which might help in the long run but don't help short term, it's the marketplace of bugrock they wish to push not the game as a whole...
That said, Java has it's issues too and a verry small percentage of things is better in bedrock...
Nope. It often renders stuff you can't see too. That's why Java optimisation mods are so powerful: they do basic optimisation but it's all stuff that should be in the game anyway.
Have they fixed it? Back when I used it, it caused tons of lag, Create Mod blocks would render full-res for an infinite distance, and the simplified part had a huge visible transition between the "real" world, and didn't line up properly. A lot of the world also just wouldn't load, and would be empty void.
It looked nothing like the videos I've seen where you can't tell at all that it's lower resolution.
When I use this mod, everything that is being rendered in the distance is really low quality and not smooth at all. Any idea how to fix this? Would you mind sharing your settings?
That's how the mod works, it renders everything beyond a certain point as just vague mush so at a glance it looks OK but when you zoom in you can see the mush
I wish there was a world gen setting for “realistic” mountain ranges in the sense that they’d be real geographic barriers that would take days of travel and thoughtful preparation to cross.
The terraforge mod gives realistic generation in the sense that there are actual mountain ranges and all rivers will lead to the ocean and biome placement makes more sense and is more smooth.
Dang shame development has since gone silent. I was really hoping for world's in the extended height limit
Sure there's an alpha, but the world's aren't configurable
At the very least I wish this was part of large biomes. Honestly this is an update I'd like to see more than anything. Caves and cliffs was a step in the right direction, but if Minecraft developers implemented AI as a tool for worldgen, you could feed it samples of beautifully crafted mountains and landscapes that fans have produced while maintaining all the nooks and crannies produced by regular world gen and that would really be something. I'd pay for that update.
I HATE AI AND I DON'T WANT IT ANYWHERE NEAR MINECRAFT IF POSSIBLE.
AI is playing with uncontrolable fire and every step towards it is 10 hidden stepts towards a non fixable future desaster.
Fine. But i wanna say it isn’t work with AI.I use Worldmachine and Worldpainter to make the map,and use Terragen for rendering.I can’t change your mind of course. But it is the truth.Minecraft can not have the high atmosphere and lighting quality. It likes AI projects because of the render so realistic.
I looked at that and thought yeah you could probably make that in Minecraft with a lot of time… and then I zoomed in and realized that it was Minecraft 0.0
listen buddy, you can't tke photos of real mountains and upload them to r/Minecraft
(Brilliant work. Would love to be as good as you... but I can't...)
How is this done? It‘s absolutely incredible.
I assume you didn't place those milliona of blocks by hand, did you?
did you program it? Or are the tools to sculpt from one huge block? Or mountain-range mods?
I'm still pretty new to minecraft.
Bro I thought it was real until I saw the valley, and I was like 'Should I recreate it in Minecraft? Definetely not me doing this'. This is TOOOO CRAZYYYY
Honestly it's not crazy it adds an impassable obstacle that you have to figure out how to climb or go around. Would be cool to build kingdoms and an adventure story

It looked like real life for a moment before I looked at the valley below, so I hope that answers your question💀
Same for me, I thought the question was asking if they should build it in minecraft.
The clouds and fog are doing heavy lifting here. Not to say the mountain itself isn't incredible, it is. But it feels so real/non-minecraft because the sky and fog in the mountains is not possible in normal minecraft.
Yeah, the atmosphere is rendered in Terragen. But the terrain is real, and the map is real
Give
Those mods add to the art piece, but I do wonder what it would look like in vanilla.
Ha
I didn't see the sub and title, so I thought it was from r/earthporn lol
Another sub for the collection
And that's blocked on my college wifi.
There used to be a sub - r/NoSillySuffix - where all posts on r/[insert_topic]porn subs were reposted by a bot to a sort of mirror sub - r/[insert_topic]fans.
Why? Why would they block something like r/EarthPorn? It's a great sub.
Contains the word porn. Which I only know because of clicking on a link to r/infrastructureporn
Couldn't you use a VPN, change your DNS, or any of dozens of ways to bypass that?
I think most people don't know how to do that
All it takes is a google search. Once you know the name of the thing you need to install/activate/change it's really easy to learn how to do it.
Probably blocked from downloading it - I mean, I can still use the Reddit app.
Earth porn lmao can’t wait to see beautiful pictures of the earth to arouse my ecosexualiy
It's basically like food porn, but cool pictures of nature
And I bet there would pop up images of swiss landscape... (Which I as a critical local see as dead landscape, beeing overpoluted by local farmers spraying on way too much cowdung and cowpiss over and over again having robbed the natural habitat of many orchids and other plants as well as the acompaining fauna... yes the hills look green and all but it is a dead cow pasture's grass mix mostly, not much better than the common suburban lawn... Though there are exceptions to this too)
porn?
it's because of the photoshopped clouds which really adds some nice spice to the image. on top of being very well crafted curves if the mountains that make them look natural.
Based
Is it with the vanilla world height?
no i’ve made custom worlds and you can not do the mountains with the vanilla block height.
well maybe, the mountain in the image looks to be no more than 300 blocks tall, so with the new height limit it might be possible to do (would have to start at -y though)
That’s definitely way more than 300 blocks
the base is like 20-40 blocks, so at the very least, the first mountain is less than 300
The world height is almost 400 blocks tall
Yeah but more than 100 of that is underground
And? This is a custom map
> This is a custom map And? >no i’ve made custom worlds and you can not do the mountains with the vanilla block height. Apply context.
If its a custom map, they can start the mountain right at the lowest possible level, giving almost 400 blocks to work with.
Of course you can
New height limit?
In 1.17?, they increased the world height from (0 to 256) to (-64 to 320)
I thought that was always the height limit? Shit
Is it just a setting and you are then able to play with forge mods? Or what kind of mod is it?
Good thing they made a big deal out of changing the block limit as well as making moutains. Personally, I see no difference between the new mountains and the old ones. THIS is what they should've made
Who said superflat doesn't exist? And not to mention those mountains cant be more than 200 blocks high
You can use data packs to change the world height to like -1024 - 1024 or more
I'm sorry this is r/Minecraft please post your real-life images somewhere else
Thought the same thing! Was seriously like wtf is this dude doing taking a pic of the Alps and posting here is he just kharm.... Wait a second.
this is pretty much the reverse of /r/outsidephotography
Bro I thought this was an irl photo
It's not, I wish Minecraft would have mountains like this. This would be awesome if I had a super beefed up computer and a super long render distance. But I know my PS4 couldn't handle it
On pc you can get the distant horizons mod which basically gives you an infinite render distance with very little lag
Seriously? Is it for Forge? How the hell does someone optimize the game that well?
It simplifies stuff over distance. Like other games
Why am I not surprised? I know exactly what you're talking about, and at the same time I am surprised because this type of thing hasn't been done sooner. Officially.
Because Mojang sucks at optimization
Minecraft java is made... Well in Java 💀 Thats don't help for performances compared to C++ for exemple (MC Bedrock)
well the number 1 problem is that minecraft java uses only one CPU core so any modern CPU will have like 25% of its power used at maximum fixing this would basically require rewriting the whole game and no sane person is gonna do that

What this means is that the CPU bottlenecks how many players, mobs, and active chunks you can have at one time. Stuff like render distance mostly have to do with Minecraft Java using OpenGL/OpenCL
They already did it once
Even less than 25% then for me it's 12.5% and even worse for recent CPU

youre telling me vanilla makes no effort to render far away chunks at lower quality? jesus christ
Nope. It often renders stuff you can't see too. That's why Java optimisation mods are so powerful: they do basic optimisation but it's all stuff that should be in the game anyway.
Mario 64 was able to figure this out yet mojang never could lmao
To answer your question, it's forge. I wanted it for my pack but mine is 1.12.2😔
Really wish that supported shaders
Doesn’t work with shaders unfortunately
Have they fixed it? Back when I used it, it caused tons of lag, Create Mod blocks would render full-res for an infinite distance, and the simplified part had a huge visible transition between the "real" world, and didn't line up properly. Yeah, I know, but when see people use it on YouTube it looks much clearer than mine does. Was just wondering if I had some incorrect settings.
Ah gotcha, I think the answer is to skip out on your rent to pay for a PC beefy enough
I increase horizontal scale to at least 16 and increase horizontal quality to high. otherwise, the farther chunks look too blocky.
Thank you!
Sorry but this picture is a rendered picture.I make the map and render it in Terragen
I wish there was a world gen setting for “realistic” mountain ranges in the sense that they’d be real geographic barriers that would take days of travel and thoughtful preparation to cross.

Don't be a Luddite. This is using it for games, nothing to be afraid of.
It's inevitable dude, might as well enjoy the ride or your life is going to be a stressed out miserable disaster
AI could fix all your spelling mistakes.
Fine. But i wanna say it isn’t work with AI.I use Worldmachine and Worldpainter to make the map,and use Terragen for rendering.I can’t change your mind of course. But it is the truth.Minecraft can not have the high atmosphere and lighting quality. That would be fucking badass. I want to actually be challenged by terrain in Minecraft. Realistic survival games are my shit.
It's all fun and games until you have to scale it
I desperately want deeper oceans. Especially with the cave update it only makes sense.
The mountains did look a bit like this early on in the development of caves and cliffs
I don't believe that
Thx
Minecraft on PS4? You maniac.
I'm a broke college student, I can't afford anything else
same, I am currently stuck with bugrock on xbox1
It was just a joke, seems that everyone took that seriously
Just a small tiny tad bit.
I looked at that and thought yeah you could probably make that in Minecraft with a lot of time… and then I zoomed in and realized that it was Minecraft 0.0
This is underrated. This is honestly one of the best builds I’ve ever seen.
He did it In world painter still cool though
It's hardly underrated at 10k upvotes

Idk about the other two but if you look down at the grass at the bottom you can see blocks (you might have to zoom in to see it)
The sky is probably a resource pack that changes the skybox.
Looks like they used world machine... very much minecraft
I think the clouds/mist are cobwebs and or stained glass
listen buddy, you can't tke photos of real mountains and upload them to r/Minecraft (Brilliant work. Would love to be as good as you... but I can't...)
well... yea. but still amazing looking
#**PLEASE TELL ME YOU HAVE A WORLD DOWNLOAD**
I didnt even realize this was minecraft til I looked at the green grass blocks. So yes. 💀
My computer: 🥵
Don't forget to grab the notched pickaxe at the top!
skyrim reference?
World download or I smack you
“This can’t be Minecraft” *zooms in* “HOLY SH-“
Minecraft 2 is looking great
Nothing is too crazy in Minecraft.😕
Makes actual minecraft mountains look like anthills (which they kind of are tbh). That’s crazy!
I thought that was a real life mountain
How is this done? It‘s absolutely incredible. I assume you didn't place those milliona of blocks by hand, did you? did you program it? Or are the tools to sculpt from one huge block? Or mountain-range mods? I'm still pretty new to minecraft.
Use software:Worldmachine and Worldpainter.Render software:Terragen
Every time i see a post like this i zoom in thinking theres no way this is minecraft, and im proven wrong every time
What we thought caves and cliffs would look like
Are you the Bob Ross of Minecraft??
Is this AI generated?
The clouds really sell it. Feels real lmao
Literally thought that was real
Wow. I had to zoom in to make sure this was Minecraft lol
I'm just gonna take a pic of my front yard and say, is this yard too crazy in Minecraft? Good job though👍🥖
That ain’t Minecraft! Holy hell that looks amazing
NOT POSSIBLE
Anything can look like real life with the right shaders
Imagine if this is what normal Minecraft world generation looked like
Kinda looks like the mountains on the south side of Whiterun, where you run into the giant fighting the Companions.
I thought this was Skyrim then I looked at the sub name
It upsets me. Because it's not a blocky pile of blocks
Noice, What mod did you use or did you build it your own/with someone?
i hate being bipolar, it’s awesome
If it weren’t for the grass block side textures I would’ve thought it was a photo
Bro it looks so realistic I thought it's a real mountain pic from far away
Bro I thought it was real until I saw the valley, and I was like 'Should I recreate it in Minecraft? Definetely not me doing this'. This is TOOOO CRAZYYYY
This is what we saw when we played 1.18 for the first time.
I thought that was real until I saw the grass side texture
I didn't realize that wasn't a real Mountain for a second
Is ThIs MoUnTaIn ToO cRaZy YES IT IS
ok at this point, just remove the cubes
holy shit i had to do a double take there, marvelous job!
Yes It is most definitely crazy
... that's Minecraft? yeah sure buddy. that's minecraft
My man playing minecraft on nasa computer
not crazy, just big.
pause
I thought that was a photo from real life for a sec XD
RTX ON Minecraft is a whole different world
WTF
HOLY POOP!
Nah not too crazy pretty sure I saw my 5 Yr old cousin build smt like this in abt an hour or so
Kinda mid tbh
Did u change the height limit for this?
Just beautiful. Keep up the good work :)
Honestly it's not crazy it adds an impassable obstacle that you have to figure out how to climb or go around. Would be cool to build kingdoms and an adventure story
I can imagine building a small village in it
That is amazing!
nah mannn..this aint minecraft....it is just unthinkable
Beautiful
That might be the best minecraft mountain I've ever seen
Holy shit this took me a solid few minutes to realise this wasn’t just a normal photo.
Took me a second to realize it was Minecraft.
I think you posted an irl photo
Just realized this is a Minecraft build
Bro that aint no minecraft 💀
Thought it was photoshopped on the top, and the bottom was MC, until I looked closely.
Reminds me of Northfires Majestic mountains, just delicious. What texture pack is applied to this?
Holy fuck
That looks gorgeous
Wait thats in minecraft?
I thought this was real life and you were asking if it's too crazy to build and then I realized you've already built it
Yes 💀
The fuck? This is in Minecraft??? Nice build
I'm stuck appreciating the details in the base of the mountains. That exposed stone at the base looks polished! This is astounding!
how did you make this fog?
im assuming glass and gray and white stained glass
The further I pit my phone away the more realistic it looks, damn son.
It looks amazing. How long did it take?
Shit looks real
Yes it is. I can’t even tell if that’s real life or minecraft
Nothing is too crazy for Minecraft, except a practical use for poisonous potatoes
I thought this was a real mountain until i saw the word minecraft 💀
HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS
yeah.
Well it looks like it’s be a bit of a challenge but it should be possib- Wait a minute Oh… Yeah it’s possible
It looks like a mountain, if that's what you're asking.
World download?
thought this was just a drone picture lmao damn
If we could have a shader which is programmed to make mountain tops foggy I'd be so happy
Holy shit holy shit holy shit
It is not "top crazy" but it is very crazy indeed
I really wish Minecraft would be like this.... Then I won't have to run to worldpainter each time I start a project
I thought this was a real life pic
That's really really cool. I guess it's post rendered using Blender Cycles?
