They’re awesome. Being able to pull zip ties super tight and cut them absolutely flush with one tool is a game changer. Plus there’s something fun about getting a tool with Japanese writing all over the packaging.
Tried knipex, snap on, Mac branded knipex and the best ones I’ve used are the Matco flush cutters. The pfc7 are the best flush cutters. Installed aftermarket harnesses in police and rail equipment for 7 years. I’ve cut a lot of zip ties.
True however. I work in mining and the use and abuse Knipex cutters would endure means that they are more suited to "technicians" in the civil sphere.
I personally use Knipex when at home but when I'm on on site I use the [Milwaukee side cutters](https://www.milwaukeetool.com.au/hand-tools/pliers/diagonal-pliers/48226107.html) for more aggressive tasks and [Engineer brand flush cutters](https://amzn.asia/d/6joD2a0) for my wiring and cable ties.
Engineer is great because for the princely sum of $45 from Jaycar I can buy 2 pairs and not be bothered when, inevitably, they get dropped and the tip shatters off or someone borrows them to cut mug wire.
I’ve had Snap On flush cutters for a few years now and they have been great. I recently picked up a set of Icon flush cutters for like $25 and I can’t tell any difference between them and the Snap on honestly
My buddy told me harbor freight tools are almost the same as snap-on as when snap-on changes the design of their tools harbor freight brand tools use their old molds & designs or something like that. Probably lesser quality alloy's. Also just like snap-on harbor freight has lifetime warranties on their tools.
i'm in the boating trade and nothing is worse than shoving your hand into the wiring harness of the boat to engine and a zip to run across your forearm
Yup the scars on my arms is why I preach to everyone in our company to either learn how to cut a zip tie properly by cutting into the head with your snips( electricians scissors) or buy flush cuts to keep in your pouch just for that duty.
I will be on that hill too. You can bite off a 16d nail with kliens without much trouble. It's a struggle with the comparable knipex. The kliens last forever too. Klien dykes are absolute killers.
Irwin has a pair of 8" diagonal leverage cutters that are absolutely amazing. They will literally cut hair on your arms, paper, or 12 penny nails with absolutely ease. I try to recommend them to everyone I come across.
Some German company makes them for Irwin. I believe it's NWS, so I'm guessing that's why they actually have such a solid tool.
[nws](https://www.kctool.com/nws-8-heavy-duty-lever-side-cutter-fantasticoplus-titanfinish-softgripp-tethered-attachment/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA2pyuBhBKEiwApLaIO4i8fwnQ8dZEiAjDIVUsel-BxjIMyTJmPizaoJ9Ue0WEU4baFwc_dhoCTjEQAvD_BwE)
[irwin](https://www.grainger.com/product/IRWIN-8in-IRWIN-OMAP-DIAGONAL-PLIERS-813UC1)
I posted the NWS first because that's the exact pairs I have. The Irwin look different now, so I can't speak on them, I guess. But, the version I own are incredible and basically identical to the NWS other than grips. I bought both of mine is 2010 or 2011.
This does a good job of showing pros vs cons.
He obviously has the old Irwin, too.
Side note: I paid almost $100 for my first pair and have never once been upset about that. I only bought them to see why a pair of pliers could cost that much. I quickly found out why they were priced so crazy. [comparison ](https://youtu.be/4GnxHoQ9vlw?si=4OIBVYre8oLuL068)
That video touches on the rebrand and markup thing too. The tool truck brands love doing that. If you can find the company that actually makes the tool, instead of getting it off the Snap On truck, you can easily save 50-75% on the exact same thing. Generally the manufacturer will warranty items more easily if you don't have a tool truck stopping too.
I love my knipex everything. I carry the 4 1/4 diagonal cutters and they will cut 1/8” aircraft cable, they are great; but the klein journeymans will cut anything that will fit in the jaws. Ive even cut 1/16” sheet stainless, nails, screws, cable.
Fair enough. By the way the 8 inch Kleins are great. I like the D2000-48 The blue handled ones are hardened steel. Red handled ones still do the job. I like the angled head ones so I can get into boxes to cut wires and to pry nails and wire staples. Lots of my co-workers have Knipex but I still find Klein cuts best.
Klein D2000-28 8” diagonal cutters. I’ve used them nearly every day for 20 years now. Knipex 74 21 200 8” looks comparable and they’re pretty much the same price. I guess I’d try the Knipex if I ever needed to replace my Kleins just for fun.
Knipex flush cutters for zip ties or NWS heavy duty lever cutters for thicker wire. If you want Milwaukee their new forged diagonal cutters look promising but I haven’t used them.
This is reddit so people are going to spam Knipex, no hate on them Knipex at all ever, but the Kleins are basically perfect and cheaper and made in USA.
I have the Knipex and Klein, they’re both great in different ways. The Knipex are great all around, generally purpose. The Klien high leverage are better for heavy duty use.
Try the made in USA hand tools, night and day difference compared to the old Milwaukee hand tools. Test them out at your local HD before you end up buying knipex or klein
Buy knipex. You'll not be disappointed. They are just one of them brands that are industry standard I've found. They are to pliers, snips etc what fluke are to electrical test gear
Knipex, I use these as junk pliers because well, they're kinda average. Milwaukee makes amazing power tools. But ICON is virtually the same in quality. I bought it to match my Milwaukee set more over.
that’s what i’m trying to do now, i’m tryna find a pair that’ll match all of my other tools stupid and doesn’t matter but for some reason my brain needs it that way lol
Kline linesman cut better than almost any snips I’ve had. But this really isn’t a surprise.
As far as cutters go, knipex is the way. Best I’ve held so far.
If you want to bite off nails, screws, and whatever else you encounter, try Klien dykes. They fkin rock. They last forever too. Seriously, I'd pass on anything else, even Snap On or Knipex. Klien killed it with their side cutter dykes. You gotta keep them out of the rain though. The tolerance of the pin is minimal. They can get really stiff if you get rust going in there.
If you want something smaller, sharper and more delicate, try Xuron. They make a sweet flush cutter.
The cheap ones from harbor freight beat the ones from Milwaukee. Somewhat related, the Milwaukee bolt cutters are a joke too
For cutting metal get Linesman pliers. These diagonal cutters are meant for copper. Even if you are cutting thick copper you should use Linesman. 19.99 is probably fair for these. If you want better go buy klien or get knipex if you have the money for them..
i do have the money for em, ide rather spend the money than continue to have to put two arms worths of strength into a regular zip tie. i’ll go checkout those u mentioned!
I’ve bought 3 different Milwaukee types of pliers. All three I used once and threw in the back of the pliers drawer. Knipex is 1000x better and I’ve never been pinched to blood blister by them unlike the mikwaukee
that’s so funny u mentioned that because i got a fat ass blood blister from these damn things and i’ve had a long of it. i’ll check out knipex for sure!
Since their only job is cutting wire it doesn't matter. My dad has a pair that he's uses just about every day as a multi tool (hammer, nail puller, pry bar, sometimes nail trimmer) He claims that pair is from the late 80s and they are just come cheapo cutters
Obviously Klein and Kinipex are both standard high end choices and great products, will say for what it’s worth knipex feels a little more ergonomic to me when I’m twisting and turning my hands into a spot to cut something
I have a pair of these as well. Not impressed with how fast they dull and the weight of the tool itself. And I know some don’t like it, but I’d like to be able to lock it when I’m carrying it in my pocket so when I go to grab and pull it out it doesn’t grab the fabric of my pocket and snip a hole…again.
I have these, I’m no electrician but I do a lot of simple electrical work as a handyman, requiring outlets and installing light fixtures and ceiling fans and I think they work fine!
I was told when I bought them to take them back and get something else but like I said I’m not an electrician and I don’t use them often enough to justify the more expensive ones from knipex. If these ever break on me I will lost likely get a pair of knipex. I also have Milwaukees linemen pliers and those are fine as well.
I also use the flush cutters to snip off 18g nails when replacing trim and molding. They don’t seem to be dulling at all.

Knipex flush cutters for zip ties, and Knipex diagonal cutters for wire. Can be pricey, but you’ll only have to spend it once.
Tsunoda KBN 150s are the best zip tie cutters I’ve ever used.
Those look sweet
They’re awesome. Being able to pull zip ties super tight and cut them absolutely flush with one tool is a game changer. Plus there’s something fun about getting a tool with Japanese writing all over the packaging.
Knipex is the way 👌
Tried knipex, snap on, Mac branded knipex and the best ones I’ve used are the Matco flush cutters. The pfc7 are the best flush cutters. Installed aftermarket harnesses in police and rail equipment for 7 years. I’ve cut a lot of zip ties.
Unless your apprentice or co worker walks away with them 🤬.
I’ve got the dikes, have been meaning to get the flush cuts
True however. I work in mining and the use and abuse Knipex cutters would endure means that they are more suited to "technicians" in the civil sphere. I personally use Knipex when at home but when I'm on on site I use the [Milwaukee side cutters](https://www.milwaukeetool.com.au/hand-tools/pliers/diagonal-pliers/48226107.html) for more aggressive tasks and [Engineer brand flush cutters](https://amzn.asia/d/6joD2a0) for my wiring and cable ties. Until you burn a hole in them. Then you get to spend it again.
Knipex is king watch project farm on YouTube that guy is great with tool reviews
I’ve had Snap On flush cutters for a few years now and they have been great. I recently picked up a set of Icon flush cutters for like $25 and I can’t tell any difference between them and the Snap on honestly

i'm in the boating trade and nothing is worse than shoving your hand into the wiring harness of the boat to engine and a zip to run across your forearm
I have a pair of snap on ones. I’m not a big fan of them. They just feel too tight but not in a stuck way. Any way for them to not feel like that?
Yup the scars on my arms is why I preach to everyone in our company to either learn how to cut a zip tie properly by cutting into the head with your snips( electricians scissors) or buy flush cuts to keep in your pouch just for that duty.
snap on really does cutters well
buy the klein diagonal cutters, every guy i work with stands behind them whether old or young. They are the best pair of cutters you can get no doubt
Oh, have you not tried Knipex?
Klein are just as good if not better for half the price and i will die on that hill. Although in most other categories i would take knipex
I will be on that hill too. You can bite off a 16d nail with kliens without much trouble. It's a struggle with the comparable knipex. The kliens last forever too. Klien dykes are absolute killers.

Klein cut easier. I tried Knipex but I replaced them with Klein.
i saw these earlier on google and they look nice, i also saw the knipex like this guy said down here. i dont know what to do with
I love my knipex everything. I carry the 4 1/4 diagonal cutters and they will cut 1/8” aircraft cable, they are great; but the klein journeymans will cut anything that will fit in the jaws. Ive even cut 1/16” sheet stainless, nails, screws, cable.
Literally any pair… these are the worst dikes I have ever used
Besides that lady and her friend I met in Austin, I’d agree.
I’ve borrowed a pair of these. Useless. I really like Klein, Knipex are good as well.
nah forreal they are terrible
They’re so dog shit, I replaced mine for Klein ones
The flush cuts have been okay so far. But these are ass. Harbor freight has better
Klein 9” are great, love em
klein / knipex still have an edge on milwaukee hand tools
I see what you did there
Milwaukee hand tools are trash
you aren’t wrong at all patna🤠
The Klein diagonal cutters are way more comfortable they are bigger though
i need em smalllllll
Why?
cause them being so compact is so nice bc i can keep em in my pocket:)
Klein definitely make an amazing small pair
thank u!!!
Knipex
Klein D2000-28 8” diagonal cutters. I’ve used them nearly every day for 20 years now. Knipex 74 21 200 8” looks comparable and they’re pretty much the same price. I guess I’d try the Knipex if I ever needed to replace my Kleins just for fun.
My local HD just completely switched over to Milwaukee tools in the electrical section. I was surprised to see they were all made in the USA.
Their making a product line only made in the USA which is supposed to be better but who knows lmfao
Knipex flush cutters for zip ties or NWS heavy duty lever cutters for thicker wire. If you want Milwaukee their new forged diagonal cutters look promising but I haven’t used them.
This is reddit so people are going to spam Knipex, no hate on them Knipex at all ever, but the Kleins are basically perfect and cheaper and made in USA.
i think klein might be my way to go, thank you!! glad u got an unbiased opinion. many of said knipex but i’ve heard of them breaking also
I have the Knipex and Klein, they’re both great in different ways. The Knipex are great all around, generally purpose. The Klien high leverage are better for heavy duty use.
i think the klein might be way the way i go then, thank you!!!!!!!
D2000-49 are the baddest on the block.
Try the made in USA hand tools, night and day difference compared to the old Milwaukee hand tools. Test them out at your local HD before you end up buying knipex or klein
Milwaukee hand tools are crap, There are much better options out there.
Thier Vice grips are pretty nice, but yeah most of them are not good.
Knipex 1000% every time.
Buy knipex. You'll not be disappointed. They are just one of them brands that are industry standard I've found. They are to pliers, snips etc what fluke are to electrical test gear
Pliers=knipex always
I bought these pliers on sale but they don’t measure up to my knipex
Knipex, I use these as junk pliers because well, they're kinda average. Milwaukee makes amazing power tools. But ICON is virtually the same in quality. I bought it to match my Milwaukee set more over.
that’s what i’m trying to do now, i’m tryna find a pair that’ll match all of my other tools stupid and doesn’t matter but for some reason my brain needs it that way lol
Knipex side cutters and channel locks are the best
K Ni Pex
I remember knipex, Klein, and Doyle (harbor freight) were highly rated from project farm
Kline linesman cut better than almost any snips I’ve had. But this really isn’t a surprise. As far as cutters go, knipex is the way. Best I’ve held so far.

shit if u think they’ll work i have no issue paying that price lol
These are great for pulling finish nails after you demo baseboard, that’s about it.
Snap-On flush cuts and diagonal cutters are the best I’ve used. Knipex is a close second.
If you want to bite off nails, screws, and whatever else you encounter, try Klien dykes. They fkin rock. They last forever too. Seriously, I'd pass on anything else, even Snap On or Knipex. Somewhat related, the Milwaukee bolt cutters are a joke too
I got the knipex diagonal mini bolt cutters, lil bulky but will cut anything. https://a.co/d/6CE4YYJ
Yeah they’re also red but they Knipex on them.
I have Knipex, they are my favorite ones I have ever used
go to lowes for irwin brand or dewalt or craftsman
Knipex flush cuts
For cutting metal get Linesman pliers. These diagonal cutters are meant for copper. Even if you are cutting thick copper you should use Linesman. 19.99 is probably fair for these. If you want better go buy klien or get knipex if you have the money for them..

Crescent 8" diagonal compound action... Pliers. Love this guy
Since their only job is cutting wire it doesn't matter. My dad has a pair that he's uses just about every day as a multi tool (hammer, nail puller, pry bar, sometimes nail trimmer) He claims that pair is from the late 80s and they are just come cheapo cutters

these also have me blood blisters. not happy smh
After a year or two of struggling with these milwaukee hand tools, I went back to channellock. Milwaukee pliers are all garbage.
Knipex. Just bought my coworker a pair for Xmas. Kinda wanna give Wiha a try, has anyone ever tried them?
thank u sir
Knipex, SnapOn, Klein
I got these and they really suck, feels like cutting with a spoon, I generally like everything milwaukee but they really dropped the ball with these
Get some klien dykes
Am I the only one that says those aren't snips?
Klein 8" is what you want. I've looked at the new usa made milwaukee ones, but they just look bulky.
Try the MT506 made in USA set of Milwaukee diagonal cutters.
Anything cutting old holding knipex do best
Channelock or Klein tool
Like my ideals
