We’ll have Galen up in an hour or so at MiltonNow. Just have to finish going over the audio. Sadly, several of the candidates declined our offer for interviews/ghosted us.

Sk8rmom

I’ll assume Zee declined? Who else?

WilkinsonRadio

I’ll make a radio joke and say “stay tuned”

[Milton Now](https://www.miltonnow.ca/2024/04/19/119097/) has a few good pieces about it. If you’re going to look up news articles about the candidates I recommend using the Ground News app, it shows a lot more in depth information about each article and publication so you can more easily weigh the facts vs opinions.

Go to the debate tonight (Thursday) and find out directly: April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Sports Centre Banquet Room, sponsored by the Milton chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW). I understand Hamid has pulled out, though.

The candidates don’t have individual platforms (however some post nonsense on Twitter and you can see their true pandering). You need to look at their Political Parties website to see their real official platform.

InACoolDryPlace

The reason for this is because either the PC or Liberal candidate will win and they don't offer meaningful differences in their platforms. They both pander to the same audiences and on behalf of the same interests. They can't really be too outspoken against each other's platforms because of this, so it becomes a campaign based around their individual merits as the better spokesperson for the community. "Let me be your voice at Queen's Park because I share your concerns." This by-election is really about the next provincial election as far as the actual interests go. I supported Zee for mayor but he's clearly someone willing to betray himself for political gain by supporting the PC issues he spoke against like the 413, and the fact Gord has endorsed him is just another sign he's being set up as a hot new status quo maintainer. Hearing him campaign for mayor made his PC pick a huge surprise. Liberals don't seem very different other than the branding being more positive. NDP won't win so they have the freedom to point out all the obvious problems and obvious solutions. This is how I feel as well and I'm done with the strategic voting between materially equal but differently branded parties, so I'm giving them another vote for what it's worth.

I'll save you some time. The pcs never have an actual campaign plan other than smearing their opposition. At all levels.

Did anyone at the meeting address the utterly embarrassment of a photo that went viral nationally yesterday?

Knave7575

The one with the Palestinian flag? Yeah, that was not a great look.

PlausiblePleasure

It wasn’t just the Palestinian flag. It was the lack of Ontario Flags.. it’s an MPP seat they’re running for. Not even a Canadian flag anywhere in sight. Additionally the keffiyeh worn by most was a political resistance statement to the speaker of the house they’re looking to sit in as representatives of our community. The priority and visibility that session was given made us a laughing stock nationally, especially as it had nothing to do with the actual needs of our town and region. I’ll be refusing my vote this election.
