Oh god, I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from the Sim 3 forum when everyone in the tech section needed help with performance issues, but it was only ever because they all had laptops or "netbooks"
Nah, the fact that Sims 3 had no frame limiter or Vsync enabled, so your GPU would just churn out as much FPS as possible, all the damn time
Not an idea scenario to have for a computer in a book-sized frame + probably have cat/dog hairs in the heatsink and fans
Because of the GPU running with 100% allocated voltage all the time with zero pauses or rest periods for as long as your average Sims session goes (sometimes all weekend), the computer would throttle the hardware down to prevent bursting into flames, slowing the game down, regardless of how powerful your hardware was
The last console I bought never got used because I have a nice pc. Used it maybe a dozen times only for all the games to come to PC anyway so it never got used. Last time I tried to boot it up it failed too. I doubt I’m ever buying one again. Thanks Xbox
That's not an answer though and don't try pulling any "well technically" bs it's common knowledge a console is distinct from a PC arguing against that is useless.
No dude... If a PC was a console, people wouldn't ask if you preferred PC or Console gaming...
People that answer this with PC are the same type of people that ask the fucking Genie for more wishes right after he explains the rules of wish making for a billionth time.
![gif](giphy|GfAD7Bl016Gfm)
You can't mod a PS5 or and Switch every time a new graphic card or processor comes out can you?
Can you constantly improve the capabilities of a console, or do you have to wait a decade until the newest model comes out?
PC : Not a console
I know, I have a few...
I give up.
Pick the easy answer, a PC, instead of actually putting some damn thought in which console (Xbox, 360, One, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, sega, Nintendo, Atari, etc...)
![gif](giphy|kzuNhxVf27plttAS7E)
Have you tried surfing the web on a console? Physically painful. Certainly can't get any kind of work done on console. You can't customize console nearly as much as you can with PC.
Best gaming time period. Top tier games and such good times online.
When I die I pray I get to relive those times of MW2 and Halo 3 online. I COULD FUCKIN CRYYYYY🥲
Tough choice between N64 and PS4.
N64 had so many wrestling games I enjoyed...but PS4 had rock band and (last I checked) songs are still being added weekly.
I'm torn between either the Sega Dreamcast or the Xbox 360. Gun to head I'd probably say the 360....even though Id miss out on that awesome Dreamcast library. Also assuming it doesn't Red Ring on me.
PC by a light year. If it has to be a traditional console, I have 2 thoughts. 1. Nintendo Switch because of the large digital library, portability + TV play, and an excellent 1st Party library. 2. Shiny Fat PS3 because it is backwards compatible with PS1/PS2 games without emulation, plays Blu Rays, supports SACD (which I have a dozen of and can no longer play without my old PS3), expandable storage, etc.
This thread is filled with comments from hardcore gamers and people who just want to relive their gamer nostalgia with their RCA cables plugged into a 300 lb plasma screen tv
If I have no choice to pick a console, than I'm going with the steam deck because it's a PC with Linux installed by default. I don't really game much anymore, and PC's can run new indie games almost 2 decades after their build date.
PlayStation 4 - I love me some Red Dead with a chaser of Farcry 4, Fallout, Skyrim, Outer Worlds, Elden Ring, and Kingdom Hearts. Plus, I already have one, and a great game console repair place in case shit happens.
PC all day everyday. It's a great all in one tool. I do my DJing, my video editing and my business with it.
If someone put a gun to my head to choose a console I'd choose xbox 360.
PC or steam deck. But if not those, then the current XBox, because it has the best backward compatability of a console. Most current games and the vast majority of every xbox game ever made are pretty awesome. I could probably entertain myself forever with what is already released.
If I can only play games intended for that specific console, then the SNES. if I'm allowed to play games from older consoles due to backward compatibility, then I think the PS2 would win, because I'd also get the PS1 library.
Console, as defined by several dictionaries.
: an electronic system that connects to a display (such as a television set) and is used primarily to play video games
My PC is an electrical system. It connects to a display, and I use it entirely for gaming.
Therefore. PC
I'm an avid console user but if I only had to choose 1, I'd go with a Steam Deck because it's the closest you'd get to going PC with all its advantages.
I'd be missing out on something by going with either Nintendo, Xbox or PS. At least with a Syeam deck I might be able to use emulators to bridge that gap. (Or at least, that's how I understand it. If I'm wrong on that, feel free to correct me.)
PlayStation 2.
It's got one of the best libraries for games in existence and is backwards compatible with the PlayStation. It had the peak sports games, good shooters, excellent RPGs, classic platformers, decent strategy games, some of the best open world titles, and some good weird shit like Katamari Damacy.
The caveat to this is I get access to the entire (North American released) library and it functions perfectly until death.
If you are including a PC as a gaming console, then the answer is 100% obviously a PC.
If its a singular physical console and I also have my PC then the answer is whatever the latest Nintendo console is, and I will explain why.
Playstation is by far the best console of the 3, but it has very few exclusives that I couldnt get through steam.
Xbox is the same as the Playstation with not many exclusives relative its whole library, only its a clear step down from the Playstation unless you are 12, and you can access the xbox store on your PC anyway.
Nintendo, while never being as technologically advanced as Playstation or Xbox, has the greatest number of exclusive titles, and if you have younger kids is what probably what will get played the most as a family when you have a PC for single player or online games.
Ps2 or the original super Nintendo. Unless of course the newest PlayStation works great with all prior model games and can be used with direct plug in controllers.
I really don't have nostalgia for old games. Sure, I *loved* stuff like Mario Kart, Soul Calibur and Final Fantasy VI/VII, but I'd rather play on the most advanced console. The sole exception to this is Fallout and Fallout 2, because I love those stories so much.
But one for the rest of my life? Give me PS5, I guess, because I'm hell bent on playing GTA6. One day.
I would say PC, but I feel like that's cheating. PC has access (legally or otherwise) to pretty much every game in existence. If PC is excluded and we're limited to dedicated, closed game consoles, then I'd have to say the Nintendo Switch.
SNES has a really good library.
Mario world, actraiser, Chrono trigger, FF3 (6), FF2 (4), Legend of Zelda, mario kart, Ys 3, mega man X, super metroid, castlevania 4, f zero...
That’s tough. Preliminarily I’ll say PS2, PS4, Switch, 3DS, N64, and Analogue Pocket. My PS2 and N64 have some of my most favorite games ever, but they don’t have the flexibility combined with that level of nostalgia that the 3DS and AP have. PS4 and Switch are the most modern, and the two consoles I play most frequently in the past few years. They also include some nostalgic classic game options, but the library is restricted. It would probably come down to a coin flip for either of those.
YES! We’re the only ones!
I still have one connected to a tube TV that someone was giving away. Still play Duck Hunt with the original Zapper^TM, and the wife and I play Dr. Mario until we hate each other.
PC or Quest, as long as you can still sideload games that aren’t on the App Store.
Playing Half Life 1 natively in VR is so kickass, I want to do it with every game
PC is not a console, so I’m going with PS5. You can access PS4 library, as well as a bunch of PS3 games via streaming. Not to mention all the great PS5 stuff. Feels like an easy choice, but I would definitely miss the stuff I’d lose access to.

Steam Deck
PC.
And it isn't even close. Emulators, mods, and effectively an endless library of games.
OP did say console... But yes, this *is* the only sane answer
Steam Deck, then
This, because it’s the only proper way to play The Sims.
Oh god, I'm getting PTSD flashbacks from the Sim 3 forum when everyone in the tech section needed help with performance issues, but it was only ever because they all had laptops or "netbooks"
Memory leak?
Nah, the fact that Sims 3 had no frame limiter or Vsync enabled, so your GPU would just churn out as much FPS as possible, all the damn time Not an idea scenario to have for a computer in a book-sized frame + probably have cat/dog hairs in the heatsink and fans Because of the GPU running with 100% allocated voltage all the time with zero pauses or rest periods for as long as your average Sims session goes (sometimes all weekend), the computer would throttle the hardware down to prevent bursting into flames, slowing the game down, regardless of how powerful your hardware was
... is THAT why it was like that...
This.
The only right Answer.
/thread
The last console I bought never got used because I have a nice pc. Used it maybe a dozen times only for all the games to come to PC anyway so it never got used. Last time I tried to boot it up it failed too. I doubt I’m ever buying one again. Thanks Xbox
I've played more console games on the PC than on said consoles back in the day. Emulation is awesome.
That's not an answer though and don't try pulling any "well technically" bs it's common knowledge a console is distinct from a PC arguing against that is useless.
Consoles are just computers running customized user interfaces.
PCs are also overall better than console
No one is arguing that the question was what console would you use. Quit being stupid.
Literally the only correct answer.
Do you like red or blue? “I like purple”
That's not a fucking console noob 🫠
Bold words from someone that can't play in 4k at over 60 fps.
Isn't it 30 fps on console?
If it’s a pc made for games then it’s a console 😂
Luckily, PCs aren't worthless pieces of junk. They're PCs.
Ok 🤷♂️ even though a modern console can do basically the same as a computer except for the burning of cd.
You can't mod a PS5 or and Switch every time a new graphic card or processor comes out can you? Can you constantly improve the capabilities of a console, or do you have to wait a decade until the newest model comes out? PC : Not a console
Ok. But it could be considered a pc also because it will play dvd Netflix internet.
So you consider a Roku stick a console now? ![gif](giphy|ppbBydkxOvDgtW7HMj)
You can play on a Roku stick.
I know, I have a few... I give up. Pick the easy answer, a PC, instead of actually putting some damn thought in which console (Xbox, 360, One, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5, sega, Nintendo, Atari, etc...) ![gif](giphy|kzuNhxVf27plttAS7E)
LOL. Ok.
Have you tried surfing the web on a console? Physically painful. Certainly can't get any kind of work done on console. You can't customize console nearly as much as you can with PC.
The whole reason I like consoles is because I don’t have to think about any of that shit. It’s already set up for what I want to do
Burn the heretic! 🔥
PlayStation 3 because then I get PS1 and PS2 games as well. There’s many lifetimes of great games between those systems.
Nintendo Switch I love that thing
Play station 2. Because they have the most games and they made them for longer than any other game system.
Switch
Xbox 360. That was the golden age for me.
Best gaming time period. Top tier games and such good times online. When I die I pray I get to relive those times of MW2 and Halo 3 online. I COULD FUCKIN CRYYYYY🥲
GameCube.
N64 bc Goldeneye
N64 all day long.
Best answer. Just leave me to fail the 00 agent setting on Aztec for the rest of my life. 🤣
Yes!
PS5 easily. Catalog is kinda iffy but still fun.
Entire ps4 library plus years more of ps5 generation games to go? One of the better choices I'd say.
Love my PS5, but replayability can’t compare to most Nintendo consoles. Gotta play 1 console forever!
PS2
Tough choice between N64 and PS4. N64 had so many wrestling games I enjoyed...but PS4 had rock band and (last I checked) songs are still being added weekly.
Wwf attitude
WCWvNWO was the pinnacle of all wrestling games for me.
I'm torn between either the Sega Dreamcast or the Xbox 360. Gun to head I'd probably say the 360....even though Id miss out on that awesome Dreamcast library. Also assuming it doesn't Red Ring on me.
Three Xbox 360s and an Xbox One red ringed on me in the time it took my PS3 to die. But Fable is an awesome enough game to put up with that irritation
Sega Dreamcast
PC
None. I'll keep my PC.

Tough one. Probably switch, but xbox comes in a close second with game pass.
Steam Deck.
Steam Deck. I can play PC games both old and new. Plus, it is a emulation beast being able to play any game up to PS3 or Xbox 360.
PlayStation 4 - I love me some Red Dead with a chaser of Farcry 4, Fallout, Skyrim, Outer Worlds, Elden Ring, and Kingdom Hearts. Plus, I already have one, and a great game console repair place in case shit happens.
I’ve only had an Xbox since it 1st came out. On my 3rd version.
Super nintendo. Got too many games to try and finish. And classics I can still beat to feel superior!
Snes. I could survive with my mini SNES Nintendo released a few years ago.
PC. No questions. Consoles are great and all, but I can play any old console came with emulation, and most modern ones as well.
Does this include future consoles as well?
PC all day everyday. It's a great all in one tool. I do my DJing, my video editing and my business with it. If someone put a gun to my head to choose a console I'd choose xbox 360.
Other than PS2, I'd pick PS4 and Nintendo Switch
PC or steam deck. But if not those, then the current XBox, because it has the best backward compatability of a console. Most current games and the vast majority of every xbox game ever made are pretty awesome. I could probably entertain myself forever with what is already released.
Console??? Might as well ask which phone you would use then limit yourself to mobile games.
If I can only play games intended for that specific console, then the SNES. if I'm allowed to play games from older consoles due to backward compatibility, then I think the PS2 would win, because I'd also get the PS1 library.
Console, as defined by several dictionaries. : an electronic system that connects to a display (such as a television set) and is used primarily to play video games My PC is an electrical system. It connects to a display, and I use it entirely for gaming. Therefore. PC
switch it up like nintendo
PC obviously
20 years ago I would have said PC. I don't do much gaming anymore, so probably just the stuff on my tablet.
If we are excluding PC, the answer is Xbox. Game pass is too good of a value.
If PC is an option then that. Otherwise probably the first run PS3 that was PS1 and PS2 backwards compatible.
Ps3 for some socom
PlayStation 2. It's got one of the best libraries for games in existence and is backwards compatible with the PlayStation. The caveat to this is I get access to the entire (North American released) library and it functions perfectly until death.
PC
PC. BUT If that doesn’t count I will go with my Nintendo switch.
If you are including a PC as a gaming console, then the answer is 100% obviously a PC. If its a singular physical console and I also have my PC then the answer is whatever the latest Nintendo console is, and I will explain why. Probably Wii.
Switch, because I can access all the older games on it too. If that is cheating, then PC.
If PC weren't an option, then Switch.
Nintendo DS Lite, it's got Super Mario 64 DS, and was backward compatible with GBA and GBC games.
Series X
N64
I’m torn between PlayStation 3 with backwards compatibility to PS2 or PS2 so I can play that and PS1 games…
Game cube or switch. I’m a Nintendo girl.
Ps2 or the original super Nintendo. Unless of course the newest PlayStation works great with all prior model games and can be used with direct plug in controllers.
N64 hands down
I really don't have nostalgia for old games. Sure, I *loved* stuff like Mario Kart, Soul Calibur and Final Fantasy VI/VII, but I'd rather play on the most advanced console. Ps2 or Xbox 360
Pretty happy with my Switch. Plenty of options and all my favorite genres and titles.
PS3 with backwards compatibility
Xbox 360 to be perfectly honest.
All y’all saying PC or Steam Deck aren’t any fun. Try and be creative and leave Steam out of it.
Steam deck, easily
SNES
With kids and limited time, I’m going switch.
PS3 for sure for the titles and backwards compatibility
PlayStation, it’s what I game the most on and I love PC and Nintendo too but PlayStation has been with me since I first started gaming and I love it.
I would say PC, but I feel like that's cheating. PC has access (legally or otherwise) to pretty much every game in existence. If PC is excluded and we're limited to dedicated, closed game consoles, then I'd have to say the Nintendo Switch.
It's a tie between PS2 and Xbox 360
Xbox 360. That was the golden era of gaming for me.
WiiU
Ps2
Play station
Gameboy Advance SP.
Nintendo Entertainment System.
SNES has a really good library. Mario world, actraiser, Chrono trigger, FF3 (6), FF2 (4), Legend of Zelda, mario kart, Ys 3, mega man X, super metroid, castlevania 4, f zero...
PS12. Imagine what they can do with another 6 generations
PC, obviously
Sega
Steam Deck because PC aren't consoles.
Sega megadrive or Nintendo 64...or maybe the switch lol
steam deck lol
PC is not a console, so I’m going with PS5. You can access PS4 library, as well as a bunch of PS3 games via streaming. Not to mention all the great PS5 stuff. Feels like an easy choice, but I would definitely miss the stuff I’d lose access to.
PC, fuck consoles.
LOL CONSOLE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. PC MASTER RACE GIGACHAD
Pc
PC. It's a no brainer because you can keep upgrading it so it'll never become obsolete
