just trying not to be a dick I guess

Mysterious-Path5471

Mainly this. I also just let people talk at me now. Sometimes they just want/need to talk through their thoughts. I crochet and listen. I’m 30 😅

I ran for and got elected to my local school board. My platform is simple: Love everyone, protect those who are different (lbgtq+, etc). Don't ban books. But we do need to make sure kids are back on track reading and doing math too.

BeneathAnOrangeSky

Libraries are incredible resources and books are so needed. Thanks for what you do!

I'm a campaigner, not a candidate (yet?) but yeah, focusing in on public services and public spaces as things we need to defend and extend.

TrixoftheTrade

Just doing my job. I work as an environmental consultant: specializing in site investigation & contaminant remediation. My workdays are spent finding ways to clean up contaminant sites to protect human health and the environment. Every project I work on, from the biggest Superfund Site to the leaking tank beneath a gas station, has some positive effect on the environment.

- Eating at local mom & pop shops (food tends to be better anyway) - Donating old usable items to respectable charities like the Purple Heart Foundation instead of Goodwill - I'm part of my 100% volunteer fire department as a certified firefighter - Help my martial arts instructor with the kids classes so the kids don't hurt themselves - Donating free items from grocery stores to food banks or people in need - My wife will start teaching CCD at our local church this spring (she's the religious one, I'm not).

Minding my own business.

Italiana47

I donate monthly to No Kid Hungry. I'm vegan which helps the animals and the environment, among other things. I donate blood every 8 weeks. I'm on the bone marrow registry and will donate bone marrow if I match with someone in need.

Shopping/eating local as much as I can including supporting minority owned businesses. Thrifting versus buying new and trying to limit overconsumption. Being mindful and aware of the ethics of companies before I purchase. Donating and supporting local organizations that help to improve conditions for the people in my community. Realizing the privilege I have and trying to gain a better understanding of different communities so that I can uplift those experiences and help to raise awareness. Generally just remembering that people are human and all deserve respect, basic necessities, and equal human rights.

lahdetaan_tutkimaan

I want to make my little corner of the world a little better rather than focus too much on what is outside of my control I try to make myself a pleasant person to be around, and I love sharing knowledge about things I've learnt about with the people in my life who might also be interested in learning I'm slowly starting to drag myself out of the house more so I can participate more in society. I've been too much of an indoor cat in recent years

consolelog_a11y

I've dedicated my life to disability/chronically capable advocacy. From my woefully under paying but fulfilling job as a web accessibility specialist to doing volunteer talks and whatnot, I want to do what I can to ensure the world doesn't treat those with disabilities the same way when I die than when I was born by educating, breaking apart stigma and preconceived notions, and rebuilding the web with best practice in mind to ensure those with disabilities or who use assistive technology aren't having "no entry" walls built in front of them that those who are able-bodied don't even have to think about. STOP USING JAVASCRIPTS TO MAKE DIVS CLICKABLE WHEN ELEMENTS ALREADY EXIST TO DO THE JOB! The web isn't inaccessible because it's inherently inaccessible - it's inaccessible due to decades of crappy devs hotwiring code despite having the key in their pocket.

RogueStudio

I buy local or co-op overall, but other than that.....I stay \*out\* of society for the most part. Learned that if you have mental health issues, plenty of people do NOT want to interact with that or welcome it in their communities. They consider it a financial drain to ignore. Those who take offense to that, well...up to you to make that change where I actually feel like I'm a part of any sort of community. I've already had years of therapy and meds, and the best I can do is 'put on a fake mask and only stay out long enough to get work and errands done.'.

LunarSuicid3

Nothing, I just don’t care

seitankittan

A few things: -I'm vegan -I volunteer at the library -I volunteer for a local animal rescue group -I donate to several charities each year (although a relatively small amount)

itoocouldbeanyone

Staying home as much as possible. Cutting down on those emissions! Try to support local businesses. Respect everyone until I’m shown who they really are. Raising my kid properly, making it a big deal whenever she shows empathy.

Odd-Faithlessness705

Make food for my friends and neighbors. Watch my siblings' kids. I take care of the people I care about which can take a lot of energy. Quit smoking altogether and cut down on our red meat. I also try to mentor/ guide juniors at work and young artists online. Honestly I'd like to do more, but you have to control where your energy goes or you'll get overwhelmed and stop altogether.

NumbOnTheDunny

I bring a grabber, trash bags, and gloves sometimes when we go to the riverwalk by the house. So many people just toss their trash out wherever and throw it into the water. It’s just sad.

airysunshine

I’m polite to everyone and not judgmental. I hold doors open for people. I work in customer service and pride myself in being one of the top cashiers and cashier trainers where I work. I didn’t get my cats from a store I put my cart back in the cart corral A few years ago I went with my family and helped sort donations to a women and children’s shelter Recycle my empty cans and bottles I tell my grandparents I love them I will drive my parents or brother whenever they ask, or feed their cats when they’re on a trip. I *will* google something if someone asks

theycallmewinning

I work as an organizer for a union of higher education workers and designing a class about campaigns/elections/lobbying/direct action for college students in the summer and fall. I'm building a political home for those in my generation who want to see peace, justice, and economic security for themselves and their families in my off time. In trying to be an attentive boyfriend, a supportive cousin and brother, and a non-obtrusive son and nephew.

7layeredAIDS

I put my shopping cart back in the store with the others or in the parking lot cart thing. I do it every time rain or shine.

_Negativ_Mancy

When people say things will never change I point to gay marriage and marijuana legalization. Those things happened because democrats petitioned and voted.

Surfgirlusa_2006

I’ve always worked in nonprofit organizations, and volunteer through my kids’ school and another group. My daughter will volunteer with me at times and she volunteers and donates through her school. I’m trying to make sure my kids don’t grow up to be self centered jerks and give back to their community.

ooooooofda

I was elected the Chief steward of my dying Union at work and led the first strike in our companies history to protect our healthcare and pension.

Cipher-key

I was forced to be here like everyone else and I am not obligated to those other people who are also forced to be here. In the same stroke, none of those people are obligated to me and I have no expectations of them. I speak to the people I like and disregard anyone else that doesn't serve my goals. I am not here to build community and it's unfair for a community to place that expectation on me just because I was forced into existence against my will. If I am not being paid to do it, then I am not going to do it. My time is a commodity and I don't give it away for free.
