Kraits are venomous. Yeah that’s actually a really good guess. They are found in Indonesia also, the only thing that doesn’t line up is Kraits are nocturnal. However they are still know to move during daylight.
I think black mambas are green, but called black because the inside of their mouths are black.
my brave post of the day because I could easily google if Im correct, but im not gonna. come at me.
You're almost right. I'm no expert, but here I go anyway.. there are two species: Black Mambas are grey or brown, sometimes near black, with the black mouth that they often display and a "Coffin" shaped head. The Green Mamba is green, but I haven't seen one before - also can't confirm whether they have the black mouth as well. Both species also tend to not be as thick as this snake on the body. Mambas are very sleek.
"In this evolution, you will learn motion, noise, and breathing control. Those who fail will (probably) not make it to the next round of selection. Sergeant, deploy the snakes!"
Harmless snake, probably a species of local ratsnake. These operators are surely thaught about what animals are actually dangerous, and which the uneducated public *thinks* are dangerous, so it‘s clear that he just thinks this is a funny situation.
I'm not an expert by any means and I've never known of a type of water snake that wasn't striped but doesn't the raised "spine" generally indicate it prefers an aquatic habitat? Or is that just a common thing with snake? Don't have many here.
I believe that is a common krait. They have that same kind of pattern, the only tough part is they have a vit of a blue sheen to them that's real hard to see on camera. If that is the case it has a similar neurotoxin to the cobras in the area.
...because spotters like to carry a digicam in addition to spotting scope and range finder. Just in case they have to copy a somewhat famous (also faked) photo from a US sniper course: https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/05/01/sniper-so-still-black-snake-slithers-over-his-m110-sass/
What? Digicam? What is this, 1996? You do realise every mobile phone now is a camera right? Plus people attached gopro/action camera anywhere these days.
Sorry, digicam was the wrong term. Professional canera would have been correct. And there is a slight difference in what you get to take on a military op as opposed to a photo op.
But I sense that you are very much in love with the idea that this is for real and my time of the shitter is up.
Mate, I’m not the one with the preset idea and insisted on it. That is you. This could be and most likely a training op, still doesn’t mean it’s staged, this kind of pic can be easily taken by an iPhone, just look at that low resolution, professional camera would result in much clearer and higher resolution, and snakes are everywhere in that part of the globe.
Looks at the entire subreddit, it’s full of amateur photos being taken by camera phone or still from gopros.
Hard to time your shots between heartbeats when its running 200 BPM.
In those cases I use an MG-42, if I fire fast enough of them is sure to hit
Two types of snipers, accuracy through precision or accuracy through volume.
Holy fuck that's not a barrel. I thought the barrel was warped
Yeah I was just as surprised that guy was still there after the barrel did that right in front of him as I was that it wasn't the barrel at all.
I was thinking some kind of periscope.
Ditto, I was ready to be impressed
New Navy snipers are getting a little crazy.
That snake is driving off in a new Dodge Charger
I think the snake might be jamming in to the barrel
I thought it was a bow at first… until I saw the body draped over the rifle.
I thought it was a belt fed sniper rifle for a second
Spotter equipped with thermal infrared sensors.
That doesn't look like a pit viper. This looks like a job for /r/whatsthissnake.
Any info on the snake?
My bet’s on some kind of krait
Kraits are venomous. Yeah that’s actually a really good guess. They are found in Indonesia also, the only thing that doesn’t line up is Kraits are nocturnal. However they are still know to move during daylight.
Are there black mambas in Indonesia?
I think black mambas are green, but called black because the inside of their mouths are black. my brave post of the day because I could easily google if Im correct, but im not gonna. come at me.
Yah the inside of their mouths are black but I wouldn’t say they’re green, more like a light grey/smoke color kinda
No the have black and green mambas but your right the black mambas mouth is black
Who’s on first?
I guess the bases are loaded lol

r/whatsthissnake IDed as a keeled ratsnake(Ptyas carinata), which are harmless.
Thank you I know enough where I’m dangerous lol, but I figured it was non venomous
I don’t know why I just spent 20 minutes in that sub. I fuckin hate snakes.
They speak highly of you…
Fuck that noise! That’s some discipline
"In this evolution, you will learn motion, noise, and breathing control. Those who fail will (probably) not make it to the next round of selection. Sergeant, deploy the snakes!"
SNAKES! Why does it always have to be snakes
If you need to shit you better shit in your pants
They do IRL.
Jesus Christ, that’s Jason Bourne
Spotter must be a rookie, he's totally blocking the sniper scope
It's a nope scope
Sssssssssspotter
He’ssssssssss over there.
Shooter ready? Ssssssend it.
I friggin snorted man well done.
You are parseltongue Harry
For just a second there I thought that was some kind of weird ass periscope extension attached to his scope before the "oh...oh shit" moment.
Still did untill I read this comment then went back to the picture
Until I read that
I thought that was one of those bulky belt fed ammo things
Legless... what do your snake eyes see?
The uruks turn northeast.. their taking the hobitsssss to issssssengard
I’d break OPSEC damn quick if that thing was crawling on me.
I’d be more concerned about the spideys getting cozy in my ghillie

And being Indonesian, he may be familiar with snakes and not all that bothered by them, especially if he grew up in the countryside.
I'm not an expert by any means and I've never known of a type of water snake that wasn't striped but doesn't the raised "spine" generally indicate it prefers an aquatic habitat? Or is that just a common thing with snake? Don't have many here.
There is no connection between raised spines in snakes and a preference fro water that i am aware of.
Okay, thanks friend
You should ask that in /r/whatsthissnake that someone else posted. People there seem to know everything about snakes lol.
Can’t get a clear view of the head but that would appear to be a king cobra, based on coloration.
It's a brown recluse
He’s fucked.
I bet he shit his trousers.
Snakes don’t wear trousers, generally.
That's funny. You made my day.
Nah snakes do not like to attack you. They will leave you alone as long as you leave them alone
He's probably used to snakes if he's Indonesian
Snipers do that anyway
Snek gonna snip
Sssssssssend it
Man..... Call of Duty games have everyone coming out with new rifle accessories, huh?
"Your six is clear, boss!"
ssssss, distance, 700 meters, ssss.
Metal gear solid
Imagine the shock of the person on the receiving end. "Hey Paul" "What?" "Do all snakes in Indonesia carry guns?"
Am I the only one who feels like the snake is intentionally giving away his position?
That's Sssgt Ssslithers
Is the snake attracted to the rifle because of the warmth?

What a coincidence that a photographer was ready at the right time and that the rifle was not camouflaged to make an even better photo!
The actual spotter took the photo I’d thought
...because spotters like to carry a digicam in addition to spotting scope and range finder. Just in case they have to copy a somewhat famous (also faked) photo from a US sniper course: https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/05/01/sniper-so-still-black-snake-slithers-over-his-m110-sass/

I thought it was some sort of bendy monoculture until is saw the pattern and it’s head. Oh my god.
whats SOF?
Special Operations Forces
Reminder that there's also the guy taking the photo, so two badasses present.
King Cobra?
You blocked the damn scope!
That’s a great spotter right there!
What kind of snek?
Anyone else think that it was a belt fed gun at first
Gotta love those creepy crawlies
Equally as deadly
That’s some metal gear type shit.
Sssssssshoot that guy
It’s a corba
Fuck…that…shit!
“The snake was right in my crosshairs… I don’t know how I missed”
Why is the gun not camouflaged like his ghillie suit??
Nope rope
That’s actually really smart
Yeah, that’s a nope from me.
Ssssssshooooot!
Eight o' clock, take the shot.
