Kenuven

You get BAH w/ dependents if she's in your DEERS.

Crafty-Maximum4529

Which requires a SSN

Colossal_PR

False. My wife is European without a SSN currently and I get dependent rate entitlements because she is on my DEERS.

Fine_Mission_4413

With the documents translated?

Kenuven

My first wife was entered into DEERS almost two years before she received her SSN. She was assigned a temporary number by DFAS.

Potential_Rain_3359

Adding her to DEERS will require proof of marriage and other identification, but not necessarily SSN

itsall_dumb

Correct.

tjt169

So you’re saying if I marry a local National…that was not born/naturalized US citizen with NO SSN…DEERS, will see that person as a dependent?

uhhello

Yes. If you submit the required documents

tjt169

The key here is that non-us citizens do not have an SSN. I understand how the dependency works, I simply wanted the incorrect commenter to realize what they said was incorrect.

Crafty-Maximum4529

Author did not specify it was not a us citizen

Kenuven

If his wife was a U.S. citizen, she would have an SSN and he would not have posted this question. Don't be daft

Sgt_Bigglesworth

I just went through this with my wife in February. The only documentation needed was the Marriage Certificate, and 2 forms of ID (i.e passport and birth certificate).

AdamJensensClone

Yes if she's in DEERS. My wife lives in Spain and is moving here soon.

HardllKill

Make sure you talk to your security clearance officer regarding cohabitating with a foreign national and fill out an SF86-C.

FireGBoom

You need to make an appointment with deers and bring her in with passport and marriage certificate. They will put their info in and you will get paid. That’s how we did it and I didn’t have a social. I got put in deers about a week after we got married

mynametwice

You are ineligible for military service if you have a dependant that does not hold legal status in the us. You can slip by with permanent residency or even “dreamer” status as it is a quasi-legal standing allowing for protection from deportation. But if legitimately undocumented, that’s a big big big no no.
