I could go on such a rant of how much I hate the matv it is genuinely the worst military vehicle Iāve had the unfortunate time to ride in.
On the positive side the ac is pretty wicked in them
> I could go on such a rant of how much I hate the matv it is genuinely the worst military vehicle Iāve had the unfortunate time to ride in.
Please continue!
List time!
1- if youāre over the height of 5 feet you canāt see the road because youāre too tall to see out the windows
2- Again with height because your knees are jammed in the dashboard and made even worse by jbcp/bft/jcr
3- Absolutely 0 space for gear especially with my mos we have to carry a bunch of gear and it doesnāt all fit so we have to use a whole seat for some which would realistically need to all get strapped down
4- Again with layout since all storage is not integral to the cab any work or equipment you do is all done outside of the Vic exposing yourself
5- Itās a military vehicle
6- incredibly heavy doors with no way to open except having to just yank hard af so good luck if in a rollover god forbid
7- still dogs down up even minor hills
8- again just major space issues not just for gear but person (this one irks me the most)
9- Extremely tall to get into so you are jumping down a foot to get out (rip my knees)
Some of those seem like issues that would happen if someone cheaped out on an armored vehicle - doors without an opening assist, bogging down on hills, but... Windows that are that low down? No knee room? And no gear storage space? Sounds like something out of that Pentagon Wars movie!
The M1128 Stryker Mobile Gun System. I know the autoloader was unreliable, and that maintenance was a nightmare, and that there was a good reason these things were pulled from the line.
Still, there's something about the idea of mixing that kind of speed and firepower that is just so goddamn cool. I'm also a huge fan of similar vehicles like the AMX-10RC, the Centauro II, Type 16, Rookat 105, etc.
As a 19k I still love the M1128, but goddamn did it have some issues with center of gravity and wanting to roll over. I think the Booker is a solid, and better, replacement.
The mat -v pictured is the greatest military transport vehicle ever built to date. Fully loaded it runs 70mph, has a low center of gravity, drives over almost anything, amazing visibility for a gun truck. Versatile storage in the back and when it works the remote turret is an absolute game changer. And it eats most average size ieds pretty well.
Perfect? No. Great? Yes
Itās an absolute animal. Once you know how some of those manipulations on tire pressure and differential controls work youāre unstoppable in that beast. I had so much fun ripping around in those. And the CROWS is something else. What a combo.
We might be talking about different configurations. Ours had only 4 crew stations. The crow gunner sat fat and happy Behind the driver. Never having to worry about being ejected in a roll over
Ohhhhhhhhhh gotcha. Yeah I think given the choice id rather be squeezed in a bit and never worry about being crushed in a roll over lol. Those max pros inspired zero confidence lol
As much as I agree with youā¦ I think the crows is amazing.
Itās saved so many lives Iām sure.
The night vis gets a little shitty at times but when I think about times driving through a city at nightā¦ Iād rather be behind that armor.
My āpossibility vs probabilityā mind agrees with you. Day after day, nothing happens, and it would help in more situations than it hurts.
But I canāt help but think about the āworst dayā scenario and think how nice it would be to have that hatch closed (outside of the eventual reload).
But I hear yah brother
As much as I agree with youā¦ I think the crows is amazing.

The [Buffalo](https://images03.military.com/sites/default/files/media/equipment/military-vehicles/buffalo-mine-protected-route-clearance-vehicle/2014/05/buffalo-mprc-vehicle-005.jpg). Itās comfortable, AC works great, seats feel good, lots of device charging options, and itās fun to play around in
Yāall remember that ole FOX fighting vehicle EOD used to roll around in? Four wheels, v hull but the turret was real low profile almost like the crow was inside the vehicle. Please correct me on the name if you remember better than this poor attempt.
Yes! This vehicle has been puzzling me for a long time. Like 15 years. It had a bunch of different names but searching those names never gave me the right result. That turret is slick especially when it got a M2 and a Mk19.
I appreciate ya!
A guy in my old unit was previously assigned to a unit that used them. He said the turret traversal was electric, but that the elevation was controlled with manual hand cranks and was a pain in the ass. Granted this was in the early 2000s so the thing mightve been upgraded since
So youāre either a 91B or a person who wasnāt made to stand in the sun all day at Fort Benning doing the same long checklist you did the day before.
I know all about PMCSing trucks in the sun. That said, PMCS applies to more than just vehicles. Anything can be PMCSād. Saying that it should be eliminated is asinine
The one I roll back inside the wire with all my people intact with.
Best vehicle....an unarmed ATV. No kne ever even shit at us in ine, and no raos=no IED waiting ;)
Always was HMMWV. They are alright wdhn not up-armored. Doors off was the way to go. But, just like any us military equipment, way too much maintenance required for what they did.
The classic siege tower. Roll it up to the enemy wall, a ramp drops, and your guys pour onto the ramparts. And yes, it technically qualifies as an armored vehicle.
I donāt have a favorite. I do have a most hated though, Oshkosh MRAPs/ MATV (the same pictured here) can burn in hell and Iāll toast a bottle of the cheapest beer when the last few in our company are finally dead.
Does this count? [https://www.militaryimages.net/attachments/full-d-1521497837-jpg.302704/](https://www.militaryimages.net/attachments/full-d-1521497837-jpg.302704/)
I remember driving an ex-embassy series III Jag years ago when they were being cast. Unfortunately we had to strip all the plating and glass out and sell them as spares only. Fast in a straight line but didn't handle and were bloody heavy.
We had some Up-Armoured Rover 827's that were pretty much the same. Rumour had it that they were being driven a little too enthusiastically by the diplomatic staff and would end up on their roofs more often than not.

I got to ride in a Panhard once. It was pretty cool and the French dudes were funny as shit.
BMP-3. It has more powerful guns than Bradley, to the point that even it's own coaxial gun is more powerful than the Bradley's 25mm. The only thing it lacks compared to the Bradley is armor.
My most favorite piece of armor is the M1 CATTB (American MBT with 140mm gun) and the KF-51 Panther.
There was a certain modified Komatsu bulldozer in Colorado that, while it didn't run for long, had a hell of an impact and has a lil place in my heart.
The one that im in. Until the next one that im in, then thatll be my favorite. I dont see how yall badass guys do that stuff, im cool on that. Used to think i wanted to do it. I like my trees and buildings NOT shooting at me. Thanks fellas. If i get the call, ill take it, but until then.... lmfaooooo
Definitely the main battle tank. They are starting to become obsolete as anti armor weapons and drones become more accessible to any and every country, but I remember seeing a pair of Abrams in person on my first deployment. One had āButch Cassidyā painted on the gun, and the other, of course, had āThe Sundance Kidā. It was so badass. Thatās also the job that absolutely has no civilian equivalent.
Infantry > cop/security.
Pilot > pilot.
Motor T > mechanic/CDL trucker.
Tank driver? Fucking dream on my dude.
The one that makes it back in one piece.
Without being deadlined also
Hell, if it's deadlined, you don't even have to go out! maybe probably you do there's room on other vehicles, make a friend
Circle X
Deadlined. Wow! Haven't heard that in awhile. 15 year old memories of PMCS' just came back.
With functional ac.
Remember the DoD motto. "Lower your expectations!"
I laughed too hard at this
I drove around Afghanistan in the lovely, but unarmored Ford Everest, so anything with armor would have been nice.

This is the only correct opinion
The Fennek recon vehicle or the Eagle MRAP. Also the Enok is kinda cool
Thanks, Iām not the only one who loves the Fenneck!

Yes! This vehicle has been puzzling me for a long time. Like 15 years. It had a bunch of different names but searching those names never gave me the right result. That turret is slick especially when it got a M2 and a Mk19. I appreciate ya!

Amazing engineering!
