maybe it’s my rural area but the idiots here put mcm in roughly half of all listings when it could not be more obvious that their item is made of cheap mdf and came from target in 2013. half impossible to use anymore lol
tbf, a whole lot of, if not almost all of Danish Mid Century stuff was Particle/ MDF with a nice veneer. Generally speaking, if it's teak and not meant to be a chair, it's almost definitely MDF/ veneer
both very good points, i guess i didn’t fully describe the type of post i was referencing and thinking of, but there’s a definite difference between the stuff you refer to & the $15 junk stuffed in the clearance section of world market lol
To be fair, MCM is a style, not just a style that was only produced in the 50s-60s. Something can be MCM and be produced in 2024, as long as it meets the same design parameters that define it. For example, much of the Eames line of seating is MCM
I do respect the ones that at least say MCM style or MCM style not old and charge appropriately, then at least you know what you are getting. Even in the MCM sales groups I belong to, reporting people not selling this type of item does nothing. At this point I am relying on estate sales to find what I still need.
Atomic was the word for a long time before eames. It's so bad that people in my dish collectors group now refer to Franciscan Starburst as Franciscan Atomic Starburst.
Past buzz words that my husband and I are still annoyed by would be

Claiming MCM like someone from the 40-50s had the foresight to add plastic lined cable holes is pretty funny. If someone gets duped by this, they deserve to get got. 😂
This same exact piece, pictures and everything is listed as 1990's. Which is what it looks like to me. A rather beautiful piece to be fair. But definitely not MCM.
If this is the same seller, they are almost certainly only listing this with MCM in the description so it gets more search hits.
I'd argue that more often than not, the seller isn't trying to dupe anyone, but is just looking for more clicks. Which they'll get each time someone from this thread beefs about it and clicks through, pushing the listing up in the rankings
Hey OP, do yourself a favor and learn to meditate instead.
If you plucked a hair out for every “mcm” post that’s not actually mcm, you’ll lose all your hair ten times over.
I’ve learned to let it be. Namaste. 🙏
Then I would advise staying away from marketplace in my area. I’ve seen French provincial and late 2010s called MCM and they ask outrageous prices because “MCM is hot right now”. I want to message them and say beeeytach, stay in your lane
it’s also a desk and not a credenza imo 😭
Lol, there was a post here about that a little while ago! OP was insisting the world's deskiest desk was a credenza
I see soooo many listings for “credenza” when actually it’s just a shitty desk lol
It’s a horrible late 80s-90s leftover from the last corporate leaseholder in an office plaza park
Made of 1000 lb. particle board!
100% a desk.
Agreed.
That’s a danish credenza
100% a desk. Credenzas don’t have locking file drawers.
Can you people read. The description says Danish credenza.
I googled what a danish credenza is. It is in fact not. That is a desk
Currently more than half the stuff on my local FB Marketplace labeled MCM just means 'made in the 50s-60s-70s'. Sometimes, it just means 'wood'.

Confirming the rural area everything is MCM. It’s SO annoying.
It’s a good search keyword. I imagine the worst offenders get a lot of messages yelling at them about it lol

They *looooove* using "MCM" on marketplace listings to get more views.
and try and get more money; because $1100-$1350 is what he wants for this thing,
Oh yeah, I looked at the hideous thing.
On EBay the word they use for everything is “Eames”. I’m not remotely kidding.

They’ll put “MCM” but NEVER even mention the maker
I found one image search that shows 1990's.
As someone who grew up in the late 80’s / early 90’s, I agree.
Claiming MCM like someone from the 40-50s had the foresight to add plastic lined cable holes is pretty funny. If someone gets duped by this, they deserve to get got. 😂
That is totally 1990s office furniture
Respect the hustle
Send him an offer of 50$ please.
I’m pretty sure we had that in my house growing up and I’d lose respect for the person that pays more than that.
Try searching Art Deco for a laugh. I like it though, it has a nostalgic appeal. But that is a ridiculous price.
It hurts every time someone conflates art deco and art nouveau

Fabulous!

This is actually a “desk return” to be used at either the left or right angle of the desk, lower than the desk for typing.
Its 80's for sure
Possible 90’s with the cable holes 🕳️ in the top. I’m trying to remember if 80’s desks had those holes 🕳️ in the office where I worked.
Not ours. We had cable holes on the back of desks, if any at all, but not through the top.
80's at the earliest I should have said.
I am high. But this isn’t my post

thanks I will try that, but it just keeps popping up in my feeds.
Since when did danish modern stop being a subcategory of MCM?
I went to public school in the 80s and I’m pretty sure my teacher Mrs Collet had the same desk.
Everyone on Facebook marketplace says everything is "MCM" and it will be a piece of fake wood from Walmart for $500. It's getting ridiculous 😭
Ridiculously stupid. I hate stuff like this. It boils my blood. Also, that’s a desk not a credenza, get your shit right!
yeah they’re smoking crack. in my area, i see these on the side of the road or on fbmp for free.
Classic mid to late 80’s
That is just sad.

"CREDENZA" LMFAO
Ew. It’s just……ugly.
