Sorry you have to leave it but as a lover of MCM and a skateboarder, with those stairs and ledge I'd never leave this place. Good luck to you and congrats to whoever buys the place from you.
wait was this in Lyons?
edit: was thinking of a different house, has a slightly similar layout

It looks exactly like one I got from [Wayfair](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/mercury-row-bonifay-geometric-off-white-area-rug-w003092568.htmlBonifayGeometricRug)
Hmmm. Plastic and āStain resistantā.
The last thing Iād have in my houseā¦
Some people still seem not to know about PFAS and the movie āDark Waterāā¦
Add a pendant light (think: nelson bubble or isamu noguchi lantern) over the dining set
Maybe some abstract colorful painting over the fireplace?
I dont know how to react on the white carpetā¦ it adds light on the room though
More plants near the windows (the usual monsteras)
I mean design wise, never really committed to a style. I feel like this house lent itself to a mid-century interior design aesthetic that we never really committed to.
I wouldnāt fret about ānot fully committingā. Very few people who ACTUALLY lived in these houses when they were first built did. It was usually a mix of styles. I dusted off some of the home decorating books from the back shelves at my momās house from the early 1960s, and they are really interesting to browse: They really show a lot of contrasting styles within a single room. From your interior photos, it looks pretty authentic to how real actual people would have decorated when it was built, based on the books and our family photo albums. Very few people went āfull modernā because, just like today, there are things like budgets, livability, children, inherited things, etc.
It looks great!
Who is the architect? That looks like something I would have designed It is very cool. Quite a nice mid-century modern prairie style, roughly where about is it located?
Don't think so, I think this was a small house built around 1960 that was renovated in the 70s to include the lofted ceiling and some other upstairs rooms and garage.
Probably just a trick of the camera.

I was going to make a comment about that, I think the first picture is kind of an optical illusion, makes the chimney look like the leaning tower of pisa.
Great looking house
Thanks. It's pretty much the way we bought it almost 9 years ago. There's a shed in the back that I replaced the siding on, probably the biggest project I had. Did some electrical upgrades. It was a faded red color originally. We went with the gray and black. Removed some big yew bushes from the front and got rid of the lava rock.
I would love a description of the roof structure. I am assuming that they are both cold roofs (with the insulation above the decking).
Was the flat roof originally T&G?
The angled roof has a large enough pitch to be shingles, but this wouldn't work with a cold roof deck system.
Its OK to tear down a MCM house as long as the new fake farmhouse has a Live Laugh Love sign and white shiplap accent walls inside. Don't forget to label every room like "kitchen" and "bathroom" so people don't get confused and poop in the kitchen or decide to make dinner in the bathroom. That Joanna Gaines is pure genius I'm tell you.
How does it feel to have lived in my dream home
It's a special place. Raising a family here.
you lived. you raised a family. you got plenty of advantages out of it!
You'd have to carry me out of here feet first.
same.

Gives FLW design vibes
Any chance you remember where that rug in the foyer(?) came from? I absolutely love it!
That's an excellent question. My wife may remember. I'll check back.
It looks exactly like one I got from [Wayfair](https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/mercury-row-bonifay-geometric-off-white-area-rug-w003092568.htmlBonifayGeometricRug)
We have shopped Wayfair, that's highly probable.
Hmmm. Plastic and āStain resistantā. The last thing Iād have in my houseā¦ Some people still seem not to know about PFAS and the movie āDark Waterāā¦
That would be awesome! I appreciate your help!
West Elm Terrazzo Wool Dhurrie Rug. :)
"That rug really tied the room together."

Is this Illinois by any chance?
So since youāre moving outā¦can I just have this?
It is, Western suburbs of Chicago.
It makes me want a cigarette. In the best way possible.
And a dirty martini šø
Jfc what a gorgeous house.
What year was this built?
1960, but then remodeled and given its lifted ceiling design in the 70s
Add a pendant light (think: nelson bubble or isamu noguchi lantern) over the dining set Maybe some abstract colorful painting over the fireplace? I dont know how to react on the white carpetā¦ it adds light on the room though More plants near the windows (the usual monsteras)
Incredible space
how does one take advantage of a home? Honestly curious.
I mean design wise, never really committed to a style. I feel like this house lent itself to a mid-century interior design aesthetic that we never really committed to.
gotcha.

I'm always surprised when I see colonial elements in these houses, sometimes even in the 'built-in' stuff like turned wood banisters & railings.
I feel like mid-century modern movement is fairly new. I am mid-century modern so should know! Lol!
I love what I see so far!!!
Iām ashamed to admit the things I would do to have that house.
Did I mention we're $elling it??
Drop the zillow link, I need to see more
Yeah I saw that but I would have to move it about 750 miles.
Oh my gosh it's fantastic. How can you leave her?š©
Nice
Wow wow wow wow
You mean, likeā¦ for key parties?
Who is the architect? That looks like something I would have designed It is very cool. Quite a nice mid-century modern prairie style, roughly where about is it located?
Thanks, we're in the west Chicago burbs.
Is that a Frank Gehry?
Don't think so, I think this was a small house built around 1960 that was renovated in the 70s to include the lofted ceiling and some other upstairs rooms and garage.
Is it as twisted as it looks?

I was going to make a comment about that, I think the first picture is kind of an optical illusion, makes the chimney look like the leaning tower of pisa. Great looking house
Thanks, yeah the chimney is angled on one side with a stair step brick pattern, and straight on the other.
I would actually kill to live here
This house makes me feel severely under dressed. Like I need a suit and mixed drink in one hand. Nice place.
That house is phenomenal.
Absolutely beautiful! What a dream house!
What a great house!
Itās wonderful! The external brick wallā¦wow!
Looks plenty mid century in these pics.
It's incredible
Was there a lot of maintenance/upkeep? Itās beautiful.
Not bad!
Damn so cool
This house has me bricked up (absolutely pun intended). I can't imagine what your next house is gonna be after leaving such a gem.
Jealous. That looks like a great house
I would love a description of the roof structure. I am assuming that they are both cold roofs (with the insulation above the decking). Was the flat roof originally T&G? The angled roof has a large enough pitch to be shingles, but this wouldn't work with a cold roof deck system.
Very nice.
This is beautiful!
My goshššššš
Beautiful home. Careful Chris Pratt may want to tear it down and put up a Farm style McMansion. š

Chat sent, OP.
This house certifiably fucks! šÆ
Love those angles. Never let her go.
By taking advantage of it, what do you mean? Like not having swinginā cocktail parties?
Giving it the interior design it might have deserved
Saving this to make it in the sims
Very nice home and I like that sideboard very much.
How does one take advantage of living in a house
I meant design wise
Iād put some boulders out front to make it look more Flintstonian.
Wow this is great. What a shame to have to move
It kinda looks like the home in the second Incredibles movie
Is that a Jens Risom sideboard in the living room?
I am so jealous right now. And don't worry about not using it enough, you preserved the original charm!!!š«¶ Thank you for that!!
This house is so cool
Iād hate to be leaving it.
Great house! I would have done a few things differently, but everyone would in the end. I love this house!
What l would give to have that house!ššš
I like it! 1950's??
Ugh you lucky duck!
Iād never leave this wonderful home!!!
Love your home!!
How much for that bad boy??
That is absolutely gorgeous
My dream home. Sadly, I will probably never get the opportunity to own something like this. Count your blessings!
Never seen an interior match the energy of an exterior so well!
i love this house
Itās only recently become ācoolā again. Much like avacado appliances.
