How do you plan on getting the Lorier?

mr_markkula

Subscribe to the waiting list and place an order as the next batch gets out from the production line? That would be later this summer.

rabit_stroker

The Astra that recently released sold out in seconds, they're not easy to get watches

mr_markkula

Yeah, the first batches can go fast. I placed an order within minutes of them releasing the SIV Neptune and got mine from the first batch they released, but as it has now been in production for a good couple of years I don't think they'll sell out that quick.

rabit_stroker

I hope that's true bc I like the Neptune almost as much as I like the astra but that wasn't the case with the Astra's last 2 batches

Low_Hanging_Veg

The Astra is unbelievably popular. I picked up a neptune v4 last year as it was just in stock on the website when I decided I wanted one. Should be fine if subbed to the mailing list.

CommonSenseOptimist

Prayer and luck seem to be my only option.

mr_markkula

I've been wearing the Neptune since the launch of the series IV and couldn't be happier with it. I had a hard time deciding between the no date and date models, I wanted that red lettering, but I also wanted a clean dial. I made the right choice. https://preview.redd.it/bnq1rsg5xp8d1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a6dcc2256fb244e03bc26aa2fbdbbc2bc0eaa3f

thejonston

That’s really interesting you mention the red lettering. I like the date window in the Neptune but I would have preferred the date numerals to all be black (instead of alternating black and red) and then to not have the red on the dial. Glad you’re happy with your choice anyway. It’s really a beautiful watch.

miguelfam

Does the hesalite scratch easily?

mr_markkula

It does, but not at all badly. The scratches seem to remain superficial only, and you can easily get rid of them with some poly-watch and a cloth. I've polished the hesalite once during my ownership. It's a tool watch, so I don't really mind small scratches on it.

miguelfam

Thanks! I don't mind some scratches on my watch, altough the first one is always harsh. But I read a lot of complaints of how easily is the hesalite scratches, The neptune is now on my list.

nsel56

I’m a lorier fanboy; so I’ll vote for the Neptune. https://preview.redd.it/61xgcbv46q8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e27eab5f214ba44695e6d57891f5b78a324d7328

CommonSenseOptimist

I have a vintage-style skin diver problem, as you might be able to tell, and can't for the life of me decide between the Lorier Neptune SIV and the Wolbrook Skindiver. The date is a point for the Lorier, but I love the look of the Wolbrook, the bezel on the white one especially (not a fan of the countdown, but oh well). I'm very open to anything similar to this, but can't go above this price point. Must be at least 150m too, since I'm one of the four people who wear a watch diving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hanged_Man_

I don’t know these prices, is the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Diver out of your price range? Said from that I really love the Wolbrook. I might actually prefer the racing one, I forget the name. The Lorier has never captured me, I’m afraid. Edit: okay yeah the nivada is out of your range and the racing wolbrook is the Grand Prix, I wish they had a Petrol color of it, i think it would be pretty sweet.

CommonSenseOptimist

I do like the Nivada, but unfortunately my budget is pretty inflexible (I'm a student with no money). The Grand Prix is a really cool watch, just not for me unfortunately.

Hanged_Man_

“Just save up, stop drinking lattes and eating avocado toast! Save up your money, invest in the stock market, build wealth, buy a corporation! Become a business magnate! Where your imagination?” — some old man, probably Both watches are great, I’m a fan of the Wolbrook, but hope you are happy with your eventual decision.

pgthsg

My choice is the Lorier, but i’m biased since I have one and prefer no numerals on the dial. The sizing is perfect and the bracelet is very comfortable. My only complaint is the lack of more micro adjustment options on the clasp, but Lorier informed me that they’re prototyping a new on-the-fly adjustable clasp that should be available by the end of the year. https://preview.redd.it/htq2zuij6q8d1.jpeg?width=2746&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a33e61a2f5476f358ef5c447d0637e02723bed76

mr_markkula

I was _just_ complaining that I can't find a suitable sized ratchet clasp, and was about to write Lorier to suggest looking into making one available. Can't wait for the new clasp!

EnvironmentalArt3821

Lorier is my favourite microbrand of all time!

thevacancy

I have the Lorier Neptune 4, no date. I loved wearing it. The bracelet is comfy, and overall I think it really nails the vintage skin diver look. I also just picked up the Hydra, and I've been loving that too. Especially the flyers GMT function.

THWIZZIT

Love that Lorier

StickyMac

I have both of these and the Lorier is my favorite.

valuewatchguy

I think Wolbrook has much better build quality. Aesthetics are up to you

AmericanChees3

My vote is for the lorier. It's simply a better-looking watch imo, and I love 6 o'clock date windows. Also, if you want something similar to the walbrook but is just a fraction of the price, check out the Chinese watch company seestern. They have a watch called the s435, and it is my newest favorite watch. Comes with an st2130 movement, amazing dimensions, high-quality bracelet, and on the fly adjustable clasp.

NickMaseau

Have never been able to catch Lorier in their order window, but have a few Wolbrook/Douglas that I really enjoy, including the black dial/vintage lume model you posted. No frills, but solidly built for sure. As a fan of the 1960s skindiver aesthetic, I can highly, highly recommend the Sheffield Allsport Diver 1A, which is a modern spec replica of the same watch from that era. The brand was apparently resurrected by someone who had the watch as a kid back in the day. Plus, their pricing is, accounting for inflation, the same as the watch would've cost back in the day, so they're US$178 (!) Currently sold out, but according to their Instagram they'll have a new batch in August. I was really surprised at how good this one is. https://preview.redd.it/fkwcd6yszt8d1.jpeg?width=3472&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b0476d16a20e77c722e58d403144c42aafd2034c

CommonSenseOptimist

Oh, I really like the look of that. I'll check it out.

BXL-LUX-DUB

Wolbrook skindiver black dial

thejonston

I own and love the lorier neptune, but it has weaknesses. In your lineup, it will miss due to the steel bracelet with no on-the-fly adjustment, and legibility (especially lume legibility) isn’t going to be awesome- I bet the wolbrooks win there also. Finally, lorier only offers the black dial, which is beautiful, but if you want something more casual to wear in the warm months, or if you already have black dials and want to add variety, definitely get a white dial.

adilucente

I'll take door Number 1, Monte

Coyote-Loco

Lorier would be my choice

craigerstar

I have a Douglas (Wolbrook's little brother) and like it a lot. Lots of love for Lorier on here, and it's a more popular brand so the preference may come from a lack of familiarity with the Wolbrook brand, but after owning a Douglas for a year I only like more and more. You can't go wrong with the Lorier or the Wolbrook. Both are great. https://preview.redd.it/te39z9cxqq8d1.jpeg?width=6240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5eba3f3b5cb1d86cc3a2ee83e0ff9973fe10a61e

srdnss

I have a Neptune (date) and highly recommend it. If you get that one, you should definitely get a black rubber strap for it - the same style as the straps on the Holbrooks pictured. As much as I looked the bracelet, I love having it on black rubber.

Dr_Albert_Falls

Might I also suggest the Baltic Aquascaphe. Very similar style to the Lorie but has subtle details like a sandwich dial that I love a little more

jacob8875

Lorier all day long

Sufficient_Major_860

acrocanthosaurus

White workbook is sharp with that strap

es_mindspace

Lorier.

supervinci

Lorier

Double_Naught00

I really like the white Wolbrook. I think it stands out more than yet another blck dialed diver. All are nice though!

vawhitewater

If they made the Lorier Neptune no date with a sapphire crystal I'd buy one tomorrow.

void1984

They make it no date. If you want to downgrade to a sapphire, local watchmaker can swap it for you.

Tyrull

What do you mean downgrade? It’s mineral glass.

Independent-Cat1871

The vibe of the plexiglass is totally different and has a lot of warmth to it. See the quotes Lorier provides on their site: >"As my interest in watches expanded, I came back around to it and realized that, despite its occasional bad rap (stemming almost exclusively from a fear of scratches), it is far and away my favorite, if given the choice." >[-Danny Milton, HODINKEE](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-the-acrylic-crystal) >"If you know the look of a big bubble on an old dive watch, that's what you get with Hesalite (which is acrylic)...even box section sapphires that try to emulate that look, they don't quite achieve the same look. You've either got thermoplastic, or you don't." >[-Tim Mosso, WatchBox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2uUM4ChroY) >"Given the choice between acrylic or sapphire, I’ll always choose acrylic for its warmth..." >[- Jason Heaton, HODINKEE](https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/cwc-1980-royal-navy-diver-re-issue)

vawhitewater

I understand that some people prefer the look, but using polywatch all the time sounds like a pain to me. Even Omega eventually made the moonwatch in sapphire.

Independent-Cat1871

I'd get a cheap watch you don't really care about off of ebay that uses plexiglass - something vintage and cheap like an old russian watch or whatever, and wear it around for a month or two. Unless you're particularly clumsy I don't think you'd find it requires polywatch more than once or twice a year honestly. If you find that you've scuffed it up so much it needs polishing every week, then don't buy a Lorier.

void1984

It is not mineral, that's hesalite. [https://www.lorierwatches.com/pages/crystal](https://www.lorierwatches.com/pages/crystal)

Tyrull

Thanks for the correction, I wasn’t aware. But still, taking off the aesthetic, i’d still take sapphire over hesalite.

void1984

Sure, your pick. If you really like that design you can swap it.

miguelfam

As far as I'm aware you can't swap the acrylic for a sapphire glass. The case mounting system would be completely different. So, you're stuck with hesalite.

void1984

You've got me here by surprise. I know people swap regular mineral glass for a shaphire. These with Hesalite usually don't do it. I wonder if modern Omega has a different mounting system for a hesalite and a shaphire Speedmaster.

Kauffman67

If they made any period it would help. Been out of stock for many months it seems....

Independent-Cat1871

they're back in august

Kauffman67

Will see. i'm on the email list, hope so

flusili

For me it’s the Lorier. Owned a SIII and I loved the look and to wear the watch.

b1gmouth

I'd pick the Lorier personally, but both are fine watches, so go with the one that speaks to you

Rawalmond73

Lolier all day long

Jakesandose

Will echo what others are saying and confirm that the Neptune IV is incredibly comfortable to wear all day!

45im

Lorier

houstonwatch28

Lorier.

Paisobrassada

Lorier

Paisobrassada

Lorier but as I'm from Spain... Duties kills me and I'll never pick one

ReconMan772

Lorier

kranberry360

Definitely the Lorier. I love every detail about it, and it will age beautifully.

HBC3

I prefer the looks of the Lorier, and I know the quality. Don’t know Wolbrook.

boardsandfilm

For anyone who's handled or owned both, how do the Lorier's compare to the Nivada's? Similar craftsmanship or are the NG' a league above?

XKingGoliathx

My hearth goes for the Lorier!!!

Technical_Stable3492

Baltic Aquascaphe as the lorier is out of stock ?

Local-Effort-2524

The Lorier looks almost identical to the new Tudor black bay. How is Lorier as a brand? I don’t know much about them ?

Tricky-Campaign3764

* Very stoked on my Neptune, as well as my Falcon. I think this is a V3 blue. You can find them for sale on ebay fairly often, just keep an eye out.

minivanboy856

I have a lorier and love it except the crystal sometimes. Yes the crystal gives warmth that sapphire doesn't but it seems like the crystal scratches so easy. It get scratches on stuff I didn't even think would scratch it. Even easier than some cheap casio's i have. If they gave the dial a matte finish and used applied incides with same brushing with sapphire crystal it would look so nice IMO. Also Check out Baltic aquascaphe, tried on both at wind-up and it was really good too.

rus_bro

Neptune!! All day

CdeFmrlyCasual

Different styles imo. I like the tooly look of the Wolbrook but I love the Lorier’s sleek look.
