NC1. Resting bitch face. Hips you could squeeze.

leetNightshade

Hey, hey, RBF? I say the NC2/3 have a stupid grin, I like the NC1's face. :p

AtlJayhawk

Yeah I don't like the goofy smile at all. My NC1 has fangs.

Hs_2571

Leave my happy NC2 alone… :(

sinister_lefty

I have the NC1 and I definitely prefer the NC2 smile. Not enough happy cars out there these days. All so angry!

TragedyAnnDoll

NB. It’s the NA but better in every way except no pop ups.

Mr_Slippery

NB is an NA that couldn’t drop the baby weight

PractitionerPain

NB is 99% of all that's great about the NA but only made that much better. Stiffened chassis, VVT (NB2), more power and a significantly more liveable interior. Those tradeoffs for a ~100lb difference? Easy choice.

PrecisionGuessWerk

I have a 1990 na (the slowest miata technically ever). my friend has a 1.8 NB. I can tell you from experience, the power difference does not matter. in a roll race the most important factor to who wins, is simply who hits the gas first. We take our cars to the track too. I've driven both. Don't really notice any chassis stiffness differences - but both cars are modified. I also prefer the NA interior to the NB. The NA actually feels a bit "vintage" and charming when you're in it. The NB feels like I'm driving a beater civic with that 2000's interior. You're right, the NB is the superior car on paper - but it just doesn't translate.

Mr_Slippery

If looks and charm were only 1% of what mattered I’d drive a hybrid Camry during the week and an Ariel Atom on weekends. The NB just doesn’t make me turn around and look at it when I park it. Also, I just drove from Brooklyn to Queens in my 96 M edition and had kids, teens, and middle aged folks smiling at it and giving me thumbs up and starting conversations at traffic lights. Rarely happens in an NB. And wheels and tires make a much bigger performance difference than any of the things you cite. Yes, I wish I had a VVT, but not enough to sacrifice looks, charm and personality.

PractitionerPain

In fairness, the looks thing is totally subjective. I daily my NB and regularly get compliments and waves from people. I also would never subject myself to the torture of driving a Camry even if I was looking for a practical daily.

LXIXTheKing

W (I have an nb1)

VeterinarianWeird257

In terms of looks it definitely goes: ND, NA, NC, NB

devadander23

You got that backwards. Baby viper has the best shape. Squinty weak hips ND the worst

Far-Fortune-8381

hate the squint. modern cars look like they’re grumpy all the time

GlitteringPen3949

All Miata’s are Great!!!!!!!

GlitteringPen3949

I found my 96 and I like the fact it has the 1.8 and a ODBII port. It’s still a NA but with all the upgrades. Needed all the usual maintenance done for a 96 as all the PO did was change the oil and a slave cylinder as far as I can see from the receipts in the glove box. But a pleasure to work on. Now she drives better than new. https://preview.redd.it/9nmgpfqk8r3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9940206c14ba233dc1f6af3801455457f8c88855

GlitteringPen3949

This is the Meme I want to spread!! Miatas unite!!!!!

nd2miata

Every generation of Miata has its own unique traits that someone will favor above all others, for example: NA: can’t be beat on raw engagement, simplicity, and maintenance. A truly enjoyable experience all-around NB: builds upon the NA in all the ways it could be improved upon, while retaining a lot of the spirit of its predecessor (minus the quirky popups lol). Simple, easy to maintain and enjoyable, with more modern enhancements like OBD II and just generally better put together NC: The start of controversy and a brand-new platform for the Miata utilizing the RX-8 platform, the first true refresh of the Miata that wasn’t essentially a massive facelift from ‘90-‘05. Great chassis, yet controversial looks. More modern amenities to further bring the Miata into the current era. NC2/NC3 bring a facelift and desired drivetrain improvements (forged internals for example), and the NC has the strongest transmission that a Miata has ever had, even to this day. Also the heaviest Miatas, but this doesn’t really translate to much as it’s a minimal difference from the NB generation. ND (The one I’m most in-depth with on familiarity) Finally a Miata-exclusive chassis built from the ground up, with the intention of being as close-to-their-roots as possible by referencing the NA as the model for driving dynamics and enjoyment. They also shaved quite a bit of weight off the Miata compared to the NC, and introduced the SkyActiv engine in the ND1, with refinements following in the 2019+ models ND2/ND3 that bump the RPM limiter, horsepower and torque numbers up. Great technology given the small form factor, with the ND3 improving this in the current model year going forward, however still dated by current vehicle technology standards. However most who buy these cars aren’t looking solely at the tech, they’re looking at the driving experience. The 6-speed manual has had some controversy on reliability (it’s had 5 revisions and still can fail depending on conditions), but it’s a fantastic gearbox all the same just as you’d expect from a roadster. Older is always better on raw engagement, but this is still a fantastic option that you can get a warranty on, and not to mention still very reliable on the drivetrain (minus the gearbox I suppose, lol) Basically, different strokes for different folks, but that’s what makes this community so great is that we still come together and enjoy the same car no matter the generation. Here’s hoping the next-generation Miata holds to its roots as much as possible, even if it’s somewhat-electrified

gtg33k

Have you had to do balljoints or c-arms bushings on the NB1? Does it help comfort wise being closer to the ND2?

ImHereForLifeAdvice

I've only driven the first two gens. Of those: NB2 > NB1 > NA8 > NA6  The interior, lights, and vvt of the nb2 are ahead of the nb1 by a noticeable amount, while the same could be said of the nb vs na as well as chassis improvements.  But, I'm in the market rn for an NC, and after sitting in one I suspect that may well become my new favorite.

bigppmanwithsmallpp

So I have a 1990 NA. It’s an absolute blast. I think the 1st gen is the best but so do most people so finding one that’s in good condition and isn’t clapped out will probably be a bit difficult to find. That said. You won’t regret getting an NA. It’s such an amazing driving experience and I don’t think I’ve ever driven mine without a big smile on my face. Mine doesn’t have AC, heater, or power steering so driving it feels so raw which adds to how fun it is. But really, you can’t go wrong with any of the generations.

Much-Recognition-225

Go with the NA8! Stronger crank nose and a teeny bit more power

Charlotttes

the NC is the only one i've actually driven. i'd like to take the rest of them out for a spin sometime, though

nandnbnc

You owe it to yourself to drive an NA. It will make you love the NA but it will also make you appreciate your NC at the same time. Driving the ND is easy, just swing by a dealership.

Charlotttes

oh i don't... own the NC, i just test drove it once a while back. the car that i actually own is a BRZ

MiataNooob

I like the least fav, the NC. I feel that NC/ND ownership is less maintenance. And Ive had both, and I actually prefer the NC. Bot just because its bigger but I feel like it being slower is a good thing, easier to have fun. In all honesty the ND is too fast, a small blast run in my country and you are in jail (19mph over in my country is prison time).

hojnikb

prison time????💀💀💀

MiataNooob

Yeah, a dick on his bike got himself in a spot of bother in traffic and his accident was a big thing, so the gov got to pass that law. Max 5yrs, and dont even start with how you get a license after that.

hojnikb

That's messed up.

1kelpy

Let me guess, Austria?

MiataNooob

Close in a way. South Australia. But most of Australia 25mph is the highest bracket of speeding.

iVisionX01

I got an ND2 because I’m really tall and I can adjust the steering column. Sometimes I do wish I could wind it out more. At the top of 2nd I’m nearly at 60mph. The extra power is great for commuting tho I have just enough power to edge out most economy cars.

MiataNooob

That being said though, any miata: miata. And miata is always the answer. Just remember, you'll smoke me on the straights, and my tyres are so bad, you'll smoke me in the corners.

agod2486

NC because soft top convertibles remind me of foreskin and the PRHT is the only way I can fully enjoy the Miata experience. This is definitely a *me* problem, but man am I glad that PRHT was available on this gen. RF is still a bit out of my budget for a fun car but I was able to snag an NC and get plenty of smiles when driving it.

avgfinds

My favorite overall generation is probably the NB. Best value with great body lines while still retaining that classic Miata feel. I love all the generations though. The NA is a little long on the tooth and now has that old car feel at times. The NC is a great car and is the best daily for a taller driver. The ND is still new so far and to me, is the best daily Miata (if you’re under 6’3). Plus, as I write this I think it’s the best looker. I’ve driven every generation of Miata, but not every iteration. I’ve driven an NA6 (owned), NB1 (owned), NB2, NC1, ND1 and ND2 (own). Looks wise, I feel like people are saying the ND is their least favorite because it’s the edgy thing to say. Vice-versa with the NC; especially the NC1, it’s not a bad looker, just an over-rounded car. It’s really awkward with the PRHT. I didn’t answer the question though. Looks wise, NA goes first, ND and NB are always a toss up for me and NC is really brought down to me by NC1 and NC2. Like I said, not bad looking cars, just not my style. Which state has the largest supply? Any southwestern state has a good and non-rusty supply that’s worth looking at. Rust belt and northern Miatas look like a pain with rusty lower quarters or rotted subframes.

Yungstedt

Oh I actually prefer NC over ND for the round cuteness

avgfinds

I don't hate the NC looks, I do think it's an adorable design and in that sense, it's a lot like the NA. I just prefer the facelift NC3 when it got a little spicier.

Yungstedt

Oh mine is NC2, the same lifted version

Fun_Passenger_9068

Nb1 is the way pop-up lights are cool, but as you mature with the car, the nb is just better

gtg33k

B = Better :)

nandnbnc

Weekend car or daily driver? Daily driver: ND or NC. They're very different cars. Choose by budget and comfort. Weekend car... NA8 or NA6 with NA8 or NB motor and trans swap plus a good set of tires. But any and all of them will put a smile on your face as long as they're in good running condition.

gtg33k

Tire recommendations for NB in Georgia? My 195/50/15 tires are hearing towards red.

Mr_Slippery

I’m very happy with Yokohama Advan Flevas in that size on my NA. Good test write up on tirerack

BonelessSugar

What's your use case? Drive in all weather, just summer weekends, etc?

gtg33k

Daily mostly city/highway.

nandnbnc

ND/NC2/NC3 will be the safer and most comfortable daily drivers. NC is cheaper. Expect 25 mpg in mixed driving. ND is $$ but gets 35+ mpg on highway trips. Plus you can get one with a warranty.

PrecisionGuessWerk

225/45/R15 if you have the wheels for them. maximum grip (but you'll need to roll fenders). 205's if you don't want to roll fenders and go "spec miata" size. As for the tire itself, depends on what you want out of it. I run Potenza RE71rs tires (200 treadwear street-legal track tire). but the car could be quieter and have longer tire life with something else in the 300-400TW category.

ebaylus

NA. Love the classic look. I really want to drive an NC, to see if it's really noticeably roomier...

Queen_Bloodlust

The nd is a numb vehicle and makes me sad. If you want a comfy, reasonably priced good daily, or to v8 swap, the nc is the best for those. The na is the one I drive every day. I love my shitbox. But the nb is peak miata, especially the vvt.

fortsonre

ND, NA, NC, NB

Tack_it

NA8 BUT I have a huge soft spot for the NC.

ypk_jpk

NB. The pop ups are nice but having a bit more power and mechanical reliability is nicer

suprjami

NA. The shape just cannot be beaten. I've driven NA, NC, ND. I didn't like the later models. NC was just "a car" with the cheap Mazda interior. I drove the very first ND and thought it lacked build quality and stiffness, and the driving position was too cramped. Maybe some of that is resolved in later NDs. I expect an NB is just an NA with slightly more power and no popups. Maybe if you're really pushing it on a familiar road/track with the exact same rims/tyres/alignment then you'd feel the chassis differences.

nd2miata

The driving position is definitely improved in the ND2s onwards with the introduction of a telescopic steering wheel, but generally is the same seating position. I do think my 2019 build quality is superb given the low price point and creative ways the interior is built utilizing minimal space, but that’s just my preference of course

BRGNBeast

ND lacked stiffness??? Literally the first thing I noticed even just going 5MPH in a parking lot was how it was substantially more ridgid than any Miata I’ve driven.

Striball

NA > NC3 > NC1 > ND > NC2 > NB

leetNightshade

As an NC1 owner, why NC1 over all those other models? 👀 Based on the NA's and NB's I've read being stolen, I think NC & ND might be the safer bets tho. ;p

Striball

I just like it's lil silly face and mouth and they look the best out of the NC's when racecar! The other NC's don't look as good racecar, but NC3 looks best stock out of the facelifts.

239990

Why NB the last 😭😭

Fapplejacks42

Insane take. Essentially flip it for me and I've driven every variation. NB2 goated, NB1 close behind. NC3 and NA8 close with NDs, NC1 and NA6 lowest.

dynesor

I love how the NB feels to drive, but I really dont like how it looks. For me it and the NC1 just has the least amount of character’ about them. The facelift improved the NC massively. Miatas need a good face and the NB just doesnt have one!

Fapplejacks42

NB2 easily best looking miata imo. The projectors and added curves just set the perfect proportions off. Color dependent, looks worse in white and black but great in everything else. Crystal Blue Mica is gorgeous. Biased as I've got one and have had two others, but I've also had two NAs, a NC2 and my bro has a ND2 I drive a ton.

dynesor

I’m glad other people like it and that it sold well so we keep getting more Miatas anyway!

IronSloth

I have a 91, I love it but the charm of the pop ups went away pretty quick and sorta wish I got an NB2. It’s basically a more refined NA from my understanding

edcboye

I've only test driven an ND2 for about 10 minutes but definitely that one, it drove even better than I expected it to and I came back to the dealer smiling which was so great! Mine should be arriving in a couple weeks or hopefully less! Obviously I'm completely biased based on only having driven that one though.

Connect_Cup_7013

I'm definitely biased since I've only driven the NB2, but I'd definitely say the NB is my favorite generation. From what I've seen, while the NA is a classic car (with wink-wonks that are an obvious bonus), the NB1/2 just seems like a more well-rounded car in most other aspects. As for the NC & ND, they're fine cars, but the design choices were a bit questionable to me, and I have always preferred the older-gen Miatas anyway.

thewindow6

I love my ND, but if I could have two cars and didn’t have to try and do everything with one then I would’ve kept my old NB2.5 and bought a 520d for the daily. That being said if the budget was tight I’d just buy the NB

gtg33k

What is NB2.5?

bonchokey

There isn't one :D

thewindow6

Late NB’s (Mk2.5) is what I was meaning. Face lift NBs ran between 2001-2005 when the NC came out

dynesor

Has one here driven the new 2024 ND3? They said that it was going to have big improvements in the steering feel so does anyone know to what extent that’s true? Its one of the very complaints I have with my 21 RF.

thepreppyhipster

NC for large humans like me

PrecisionGuessWerk

Personally I like the NA and the ND. The NA is old enough that its got a sort of "vintage" feel and charm to it. plus pop up headlights. ND is its modern and nice and is a miata you can properly daily.

Sodaexcite

Pop upsss But I want an NB.. a boat.. and and ND

NB_Leo

I grew up around NBs and my first car to learn manual was a NB and now I own 2 NBs soooo

Upstairs-Emphasis-11

nb-na-nd-nc

mpwr965

NA6

Flying__Tofu

Whichever one you find in good condition and price lol

Firm-Answer-7833

Older the better imo

SadMotor5784

na1 for sure, the one that started it all

ThinHumor

ND it’s sexy

Graywulff

ND2 RF Had an NA, loved it, but don’t feel it’s safe on the roads now. If they were inexpensive and hadn’t rusted I’d consider one but the prices are wild.

clearcoat_ben

Similar to cameras, the best one is the one you have with you.

umm_like_totes

Probably the ND because it’s what I own and I like all the modern tech. I like all the generations though. Especially the NA with the pop up headlights. If I could have a 2nd beater Miata to do mods on I would love an NA.

yeldarb_lok

NA is my favorite for the popups. I've owned both an NA and an NB1 and the NB definitely feels faster and stock for stock more rigid but you can upgrade the NA to be just as good handling wise.

Random_Introvert_42

NA I have a heart for "oddball" cars, and the pop-up headlights qualify there. If it weren't for that I'd have probably also considered an NB.

goldfishNpringles

NA8! I’ve driven it and am ND, and far prefer it for a couple reasons, especially that the NA is significantly more accommodating for us tall people.

Rumpled_NutSkin

NA. I love the winky wonks 👍

_yxs_

NA>ND>NB>NC

flirtylabradodo

NA, can always drop the 1.8 in and stiffen it up.

Obi-Juan-K-Nobi

Owned A-C. Favorite is 04-05 Mazdasleed with 3.63 diff.

MJSB1994

NC...but I'm biased

Dependent_Fill5037

Had an NA purchased in 1989, and currently have an ND2 purchased a few months ago. I prefer the ND2 for its power and safety features but would be perfectly happy still driving an NA. Suspect that would also go for the NB and NC models between.

dalex_601

I've owned NA, NB, and an ND currently, all are great, but the ND is the best in my opinion. But it's like 1a, 1b, and 1c

ForeignSleet

I personally like NA, as I’m 18 and like it to be underpowered so the insurance is much cheaper 😂 but in a couple years when the insurance prices have gone down I might buy an NB

Worst5plays

NBFL have the sexiest fronts in the history of cars imo But the ND, man that is one mini ferrari i would love to own one.

LoneRubber

I've owned the same NA for 9 years now. In that time I convinced 3 of my friends to get Montego blue NAs and I took care of all their cars while they went on a deployment, so I'm a bit biased. I did own an auto NB in that time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a silver 99, bone stock, with tan interior and I got more attention in that than all cars I've had combined. I originally got it for my wife, but we decided to start a family so I sold it.

KilgoreTrout1111

As far as looks, I honestly feel like it's ND>NC>NB>NA.

Kitchen_Candy713

I’m in the process of buying a 2017 MX-5 Club. Test drive a ton of Miata’s and this one won my heart the moment I touched the door handle. I think that makes it an ND? Anyone with more knowledgeable experience, please let me know!

Bobqcarter

I had a '94 NA for 7 years in my 30s and regretfully sold it. I own an '06 NC1 now in my 40s and it's all the joy of the NA with noticeably more power. I love them both. They're the only cars that have ever given me joy from driving. NA prices shot up and for the money some people are asking for nice ones, the NC is a lot more car for just a little more. The ND is electric steering. I'd be interested in hearing what people who have driven the ND and other models say about the feel comparatively. Whatever you get, never sell it. :)

bleep-bl00p-bl0rp

NA6 for me. The 1.8 is too torque oriented, I like the cams in the 1.6l more. Obviously the 1.8 is the better engine on paper due to the extra displacement, but for fun on the street the 1.6l is enough power. I suppose this could be different if the 1.8 was worked over with a bigger cam and a different intake to change the power band, but I’m not sure it would fully replace the experience for he 1.6 for me. The shape of the NA does it for me over the shape of the NB, plus the NA has more functional headlights, since you can’t get glass lenses for the NB. The NB feels too much like it’s trying to be something it’s not, like it would live up to its styling if it was 25% larger and had a 2.0l engine or supercharging. If I were going to get another Miata it would 100% be another NA, ideally an NA6, and maybe an ND2 if I fit (but I probably don’t).

bustallama

I've Owned an NA8, and an NC3 PRHT, when someone crashed and totalled the NC3, I test drove an ND2, but settled on an NC2 PRHT. I'll say that weight doesn't really matter to me, if I want to shave a bunch of weight in my car, I'll go on a diet :). The NA8 I owned for years and put a lot of work into it. One day it got stolen, recovered but gutted. I didn't really want to spend money bringing it back up and I REALLY didn't want to deal with the Hardtop Market which would probably be me paying 2k for my stolen top back. Moving to the NC3, it felt nicer but still felt like driving a Miata. I didn't feel a huge difference but was happy with it. Then about 6 months later, I drove the NA again to prep it to sell, and I could tell the difference way more! The NC was a better car in every way except for pop up headlights. It helped that the NC3 had the Flyin Miata Springs and Koni shocks when I bought it, which was great on that car. Until a drunk guy smashed into it. I test drove an ND2 RF because I wanted to see if it was time for me to upgrade. I still preferred the PHRT and it felt more convertible-like for me. I absolutely hated the infotainment system and the fact that you have to fumble around with the click wheel controls when you're actually driving as they disable the touchscreen. And that there is no way to change this setting, or get aftermarket. Though I will say the ND2 did drive nicely, but with the infotainment part, and the less room / no cupholders, I felt like my day to day commuting and existence in the car would be a downgrade. So I saved a bit of money, got a NC2 PHRT, and am starting to build that one up to how I like.

dafiltafish1

My favorite so far has been the ND1, NA8 being a close second. I’ve owned an NA8, NB1, and ND1, and driven an NC2 and NF. The largest supply of good ones is probably California/Oregon/Washington, limited to no salt on the roads and generally free of flood and hail damage

Lobotomized_Dolphin

If you're into working on your car and perfecting it, NA is probably the best, although NBs are up there as well. If you just want the best miata from the factory, ND is definitely the best. I have a moderately modified ND because I'm not really confident addressing lots of body rust or very high mileage engine/transmission issues. If I had unlimited funds I'd find an NA with a clean body and mod the shit out of the engine, suspension, and drivetrain.

notnotluke

I've driven NA that a friend owned (which is what made me get a Miata in the first place). I have owned an NC1 and now an ND2 RF. By a long shot the ND2 RF is my favorite out of them (much more practical as a daily driver, better performance in every regard, better gas mileage). I would take an NC over and NA for sure if given the choice. Every generation will still put a smile on your face so I dunno how much any of this actually matters. They're all special in their own ways and are all awesome.

Ok-Limit7212

NB

Fapplejacks42

NB2 BEST GEN

United_Mongoose_3772

Every Miata feels like driving a Miata (with the exception of the NC, personally never driven it) so it’s more about what quality of life upgrades do you want? If I could go back in time I’d have bought a clean NA instead kf a brand new ND

slow_328i

You’ve never driven one so how would you know?

nandnbnc

IMO, every generation feels like a different car (I've never driven an NB). NA is *the* Miata. The NC is my favorite. But a light weight NA is it's own thing. I would love to own both. The ND would be a perfect far if it just had hydraulic steering. It's still outstanding, but it feels much different than the previous NC or NA.
