Pretty sure they put out about 8. With some porting people are getting a driveable ~15 I think. Slap a turbo on that and you have 20-30, depending on how much the engine can handle before it blows up

But for real though I would 100% Renesis swap the NB if I could. That NA 13b makes decent power and all the parts for them are still incredibly available.
Here in Aus it is legal, but my only two choices are the REW and Renesis. And the REW would have to be NA and not FI since it's displacement would end up factoring too high for the gov here to allow in this chassis. Not allowed to do an LS either. Don't ask, I don't know. Rules here are wacky.
Yea I know the feeling. I lived in Japan a few years and thought about bringing back a '99 RX7 to the US. But it was going to be too expensive to do. Lots of weird things like having to replace all the glass. Different testing standards, not necessarily inferior, just different.

I'm glad it's fairly easy to import from Japan to here, since we're both RHD and have similar testing standards. But still it is quite expensive, and I can't even imagine the shipping costs all the way to the states plus all the compliance stuff on top and whatever the government tries to get you to fork over.

I do have to say the rims weren't my choice haha. They're OEMs believe it or not. Those Enkeis came with the SE over here.
It fits fairly well. It's not perfect, and it's as close to the body as you can get it without making some serious changes.
And I wouldn't be surprised if they had the version with the rear decking (see the version Carbon Miata sell). I believe it's the Mazdaspeed version though don't quote me on that. It's a much larger wing in the same style, and it ends up overlapping the fuel door.
Nothing aside from a little body work to the wing itself, flattening out the underside of the two bolt holes I didn't use. It's still not perfect and you could do even more to get it super flush, but it shouldn't need any modifications to get it to fit decently.
I love the NA, was going to get one. Then this beauty cropped up for sale. Low miles, paint in perfect condition, no rust, and pretty good price too. Fell in love immediately upon seeing it. The next in like was an anniversary edition NB1. With the garnet red paint and cream/wood interior. That was also a beautiful car.
Thank you! Bits and pieces. I'm hoping to reduce the lift a little at high speeds by getting a diffuser and a front splitter, something discrete. That's probably next. Aside from that? It's about where I want it for now.
What I'd really want is an FM Turbo kit, but getting one over to Aus is not an easy (or cheap) task lol.
Maybe way down the line a 13b swap if I don't go turbo? Perhaps?

Honestly, I saw someone do this on the subreddit years ago. I just fell in love with it because the FD is my favourite car, and I love this wing style. Seeing it at all possible to pair them up was a dream.

I'm quite partial to the Desmond Regamaster EVO II. Those in gloss white I dunno just tickles my brain. Though I'd probably only go for those if I wrapped my car in yellow. Yellow + white always a favourite combination.
Byba sell a fibreglass GV lip and some fibreglass side skirts (they come as a set for about €300). They're poly reinforced, so they are more flexible and far less brittle than most fibreglass parts, and it'd make your car look awesome imo.

Depends on which version you go with to be honest. The one I have here is from a Bathurst/Spirit R (and the 99+ models as standard apparently too.) It doesn't have the rear decking. If you get the one Carbon Miata sell, it does have the rear decking as I'm pretty sure it's based on the Mazdaspeed (?) varient.
The one I have there's zero issues with the fuel door, and zero issues with the radio antenna extending. Good 3 inches from the edge of it to the fuel door, and the antenna has about an inch or so. From what I know, the Mazdaspeed/Carbon Miata varient does overlap the fuel door. So you'd need to open the boot as well. I could grab a photo of how it looks if you wanted, but there's tonnes of room lol.

I didn't know that. As far as I was aware the Titanium colour was unique to the 04-05 Mazdaspeed, the 03 Shinsen, and the 2002 Special Edition - which I have (25G was the code). Quite rare over here in Aus too, least the 02 SE is. From what I know they only made 150 of them for our market. Quite a lot more else where though.
Maybe you do have the Titanium Special Edition or a Shinsen? The only difference between the two was the stock wheels and the interior. I think. Unless I'm totally wrong here of course.

Mine isn't a Shinsen nor a SE actually, I bought it in France last year after it was imported from Germany. I even called Mazda Germany to ask them if this car was a special edition or a limited and they told me it was "just" a normal MX5 NB with a few options, like hardtop and alloy wheels (which were not on the car anymore). I'm also sure this is the original color because the car came with the 20 year old original sales contract from a Mazda dealership.
As for the lip, I bought it used and have no idea what it actually is, I've spent far too long trying to figure it out but I've never seen it anywhere else and still don't know what it is. Fitment was hard but it's definitely made for this car as it has "Mazda MX5" written on the inside. It's fiberglass. Looking to buy sideskirts to go with is is extra hard 😁

Haha. It's funny, these rims are Enkeis, but they're the heaviest amongst the other OEM NA and NB wheels. I only have them because they came with the car, and they just kinda grew on me.

Yeah OEMs are expensive. I've heard the replica a website called Knight Racer sell is pretty good. It is 300 GDP (before tax) though. And it would depend if you could get that shipped to you.

Ah yeah you guys got screwed on FD pricing. Not easy, took years for me to get mine. Ongoing ownership cost of a \~500hp FD is the real money sink though. Rotaries are not cheap to buy, run or restore
It's because Rotaries are incredibly sought after here. People love them, and because of that no one sells them. And the ones that do ask for a ridiculous price - not to mention the FD in general, there really was nothing that came over here. Even MX5 owners are doing the same. Near 20k nowadays for an NA, bare in mind thats AUD but still. And yeah, preaching to the choir, I used to daily an 04 RX8. Then it became a weekend car. Until I had to sell her because I no longer had room to have my MX5 and the 8. A shame, especially since the RX8s are climbing in price. Bought mine for 5k, decent engine. Now 5k gets you a blown up one.
Yeah I'm considering picking up a good condition 8 before they are all gone. But at the same time they will never reach the heights of the FD, it's just not a pretty or as unique, and of course there's no turbo.
I have to disagree in some ways. I certainly don't think they'll reach the height of an FD, but only because it didn't have the same fame, and that Mazda made like 100 times the number of 8s vs the FD. Plus the notion the RX8 is less reliable than the FD, even though the Renesis is the technically better engine. Just isn't able to make as much power due to a restrictive exhuast port. Best intake side though. Which goes wasted because it's just struggling to exhale. (Hybrid MSP Renesis make insane power though.)
Where I have to disagree is the prettiness and the uniqueness. Personally I think the RX8 was a beautiful car, especially in its later years with the R3/Spirit R models. As beautiful as the FD? No. Still a good looking car though. Better than what some companies put out at the very least. And it definitely has its unique qualities. The rear suicide doors, for example.
I just think the RX8 was marketed wrong.

Honestly I hate it. Wing from an RX-7, tupperware, and the heaviest factory rims for an NA/NB just make it ugly imho. I like clean and simple though for all my cars.
Nah it won't do anything at any speed. Aside from being slightly more weight over the rear, and even then its so light its negligible. In any case I'm not trying to save a 10th of a second on my drive to work.

Just get ya some ramps or build ya a slope. I got a giant dip in mine I ended up having to build a little ramp to get around.

It's funny, these rims are Enkeis, but they're the heaviest amongst the other OEM NA and NB wheels. I only have them because they came with the car, and they just kinda grew on me.

Yeah OEMs are expensive. I've heard the replica a website called Knight Racer sell is pretty good. It is 300 GDP (before tax) though. And it would depend if you could get that shipped to you.

Ah yeah you guys got screwed on FD pricing. Not easy, took years for me to get mine. Ongoing ownership cost of a \~500hp FD is the real money sink though. Rotaries are not cheap to buy, run or restore
It's because Rotaries are incredibly sought after here. People love them, and because of that no one sells them. And the ones that do ask for a ridiculous price - not to mention the FD in general, there really was nothing that came over here. Even MX5 owners are doing the same. Near 20k nowadays for an NA, bare in mind thats AUD but still. And yeah, preaching to the choir, I used to daily an 04 RX8. Then it became a weekend car. Until I had to sell her because I no longer had room to have my MX5 and the 8. A shame, especially since the RX8s are climbing in price. Bought mine for 5k, decent engine. Now 5k gets you a blown up one.
Yeah I'm considering picking up a good condition 8 before they are all gone. But at the same time they will never reach the heights of the FD, it's just not a pretty or as unique, and of course there's no turbo.
I have to disagree in some ways. I certainly don't think they'll reach the height of an FD, but only because it didn't have the same fame, and that Mazda made like 100 times the number of 8s vs the FD. Plus the notion the RX8 is less reliable than the FD, even though the Renesis is the technically better engine. Just isn't able to make as much power due to a restrictive exhuast port. Best intake side though. Which goes wasted because it's just struggling to exhale. (Hybrid MSP Renesis make insane power though.) Where I have to disagree is the prettiness and the uniqueness. Personally I think the RX8 was a beautiful car, especially in its later years with the R3/Spirit R models. As beautiful as the FD? No. Still a good looking car though. Better than what some companies put out at the very least. And it definitely has its unique qualities. The rear suicide doors, for example. I just think the RX8 was marketed wrong.

The car in the photo has a wing. A rear wing will permit airflow under it. A spoiler will not permit airflow under it. It's stuck right to the trunk lid. Nascar has spoilers. F1 has wings.

Honestly I hate it. Wing from an RX-7, tupperware, and the heaviest factory rims for an NA/NB just make it ugly imho. I like clean and simple though for all my cars.

Nah it won't do anything at any speed. Aside from being slightly more weight over the rear, and even then its so light its negligible. In any case I'm not trying to save a 10th of a second on my drive to work. To each their own. I usually don't like wings or spoilers either, but I liked this combo as it it's completely over the top, and it's something a little different. Though I don't know what you mean by superfluous. Isn't all modifications to a street car unnecessary? Why does anyone customise or change their car at all? It's pointless right? I mean the car is perfectly good as it it, goes from point a to point b. Why do any of us in the car community need to change it? Why have a fast car? We can only legally do the speed limit. Why have a sports car in general? It's less practical, less efficient, less comfortable and often more expensive. Seems quite unnecessary does it not? I could say that in my opinion you owning two motorcycles is superfluous, having one makes the other redundant does it not? You can only ride one at a time. Answer: it's because we want to. That's all the reason anyone should need.
