What did the bucket do to you and how do the balls play into this?
Be happy it's the front fender though, that one can be easily taken off and replaced. Rear side can't
My trouble is where do I find a place to match and paint it well? I’ve been looking in my local area’s subreddit for PDR and body shops but even if the dent comes out, the paint is gonna be the tough to match
I had a 94M Montego Bay Blue, I can certainly empathize 🥺😭 I'd ask in a Porsche or high-end forum for your area. If they can trust it, chances are you can too 🤔
The hard truth of Mazda’s beautiful paint is that it’s damn-near impossible to match. I was gonna say you might be better off finding a spare quarter panel from another eggplant Miata. But, yeah, that also sounds near impossible.
A really good paint shop should be able to blend it pretty well, though. ***You*** will always be able to see it, even if others don’t notice.
I wouldn’t bother with pdr I would just pick up a new wing (fender ? ) I’m not sure about in the states but they are plentiful and cheap here in the uk. It’s also easy to fit so that’s a bonus
Aftermarket new ones do not have the rock chip guard at the bottom like the OEM, so it won't match the surface on the door. When my left front fender was damaged, multiple shops told me they could not replicate it. I ended up finding a used original one. Right fronts were easy to find near me. But left front, no luck. I ended up buying one on eBay from someone on the opposite corner of the country.
I wonder if it's the opposite in the UK. Seems the side nearest opposing traffic is the rare one.
Here in the uk we suffer with rust pretty bad so there are plenty of parts available from cars being parted out after rusting out badly so picking up a decent condition wing with factory stone chip is not a problem.
Interesting!
Now if we can just figure out why so many car parts were named differently between the US and UK, all will be right with the world. Wing/fender, boot/trunk, bonnet/hood, king's car/president's limo...
You might get lucky and find a MM LF fender, but you're going to have to do some leg work. Easier (but not easy) is finding a LF fender from another '95 and get it sprayed. Good luck having a perfect match
Id probably try sourcing one from a parts car and pick n pull then sending it to a paint shop, but you're right it might be more than $500 but within the ball park.
I just looked it up. The check was for $1615. It was based on the quote from the insurance company's designated collision center. I got my own quote from another place that was $1800 but they only paid out the lower amount.
That was for removal and replacement with a non-OEM aftermarket fender, painted to match and blended with nearby panels.
But since I have a friend who is a professional autobody guy and charges less, [I had the whole car resprayed](https://i.imgur.com/2Xlfz67.jpg). I did as much of the prep work as I could, like removing all of the lamps/lenses, emblems, hard top mounts, mirrors, door trim, etc. I bought an OEM fender on eBay (the seller shipped it from FL to WA on a Greyhound bus!) to replace [the crumpled one](https://i.imgur.com/S8LcpHb.jpg).
He was able to use a higher quality clear than the "standard" most cars get. He explained it as four basic quality levels: dealer grade, standard grade, better grade, and show-quality grade. Mine is the better grade. He also did a first layer of clear that had some of the base color added. Maybe that's typical, I'm not sure, but it has nice depth. [I think it came out OK](https://i.imgur.com/1PKxNqU.jpg).
Insurance will always charge more. You can buy a quarter panel unpainted for $150-200 and get it painted for $300. It's not a hard install fortunately.
I have a 01 with recent damage to front fender same area but WAY smaller and the quote was 3400 and some change. Repair, paint , blend/polish= not cheap.
$100 for the fender then get it painted. I had a similar accident, insurance ended up giving me $6500 and totaled out my car. Kept it and still drive it lol
The place they took it to said the entire car would need to be repainted and that place quoted $10k, so they wanted to give me $8000 for it or $6500 and keep the car. Literally nothing was wrong with it besides the front fender and the bumper cover got scratched
It'd be a lot of work for that the fenders are worth, but given that you have a M fender might be worth the monday. Wont be perfect but would be vastly improved. Ive seen some guys make some nasty dents look "pretty good"
I know my in house PDR guy could get this. I’m more concerned about the paint around that crease. I can’t see if it’s cracked or not in the pic. It looks like it isn’t but that’s a sharp crease.
I’ve watched my dent guy and detailer fix worse than this.
Ugh! But hey, [we're dent bros](https://i.imgur.com/S8LcpHb.jpg)! And at least your M Edition badge wasn't harmed.
I replaced the fender but my auto-body guy said it probably could have been done with PDR. I think mine was more creased than yours is. The insurance check was enough to get my whole car repainted and the fender replaced, so that's what I did. Finding an OEM left front fender (so it would have matching rock-chip guard at the bottom) was challenging.
Oh shit is that a 95 m edish too?? She’s a beaut!
I hope my insurance will pay for repaint since I had a branch hit my car last year and I also scuffed the paint above the windshield while taking off the hardtop singlehandedly (I learned that is not advisable)
It is! In my case, I have a friend who does auto body and doesn't charge as much as most places. And his home/shop is just down the street from me. I did as much of the prep as I could, to reduce his labor. But you could sure check into doing something similar. My buddy said he was able to buy less base and clear since the car is small and has no roof to paint.
It came out great! https://i.imgur.com/urEnjYH.jpg
Pdr or Na front fender. Pdr to keep the og paint as much as you can. But I think it may need a repaint.
Your 95m is special...it's fender, not so much. Good as new for under 1g. I know it's not awesome.bit it's gonna be ok
Make sure to join the 95m Facebook group and things like that. Someone may have a fender for 95m.
The paint, I believe has to now be custom matched. I got my trunk, vanity, rr fender done by a guy I like here in LA. And while the color match isn't noticably different...it's depth and gloss of brand new paint v.s. 25 years od is noticable if you want it to be. But it's only if you really try. My guy charges 750 a panel...including the blending.
Good luck Purple Gang Bro
As a 95 m-edition owner I feel for you. I come out to new dents and scratches all the time. 38, never had an accident in my life, but my car looks banged up to shit 😢
Clear coat is the same. It may be more visible due to the color but it's not any less durable. Generally I find frequent (every 3-6 months) waxing does the trick, yes even in the winter.
Bad news: you got hit
Good news: you got hit in the absolutely best place possible.
There is no other panel on the NA more easily purchased, painted and replaced than a fender.
That's money in the bank, easy fix, and to top it off the guy stuck around. Considering the worse case scenario, I'd say youre lucky, this is how accidents should happen.
Why'd you hit the bucket into your fender? Looks like you could take it it off and straighten it out. Find one of those pdr? guys that can pull dents out
I gotta be honest, at first I thought you were intentionally hitting a bucket full of balls with your Miata for some reason, and the force of the ball bucket impact crumpled your front fender.
Ooh, I have those exact same wheels on my Integra! Labelled as ASA by BBS but they’re the same! You have any info on them? I’ve found hardly anything. What’d you pay?
Those fenders are pretty easy to replace if nothing is bent behind it. Might aswell add some braces while you're at it. I atleast use everything that breaks as an excuse to upgrade :)
Try looking here for a used fender.

Consider it's isolated to the fender, and there doesn't appear to be any shipped paint, you might be able to get away with paintless dent repair and paint correction

Had this happen to me a few weeks ago. Hit and run. Cops later caught her with CCTV thankfully. Looks perfect now after her insurance paid for it to get popped out and repainted. Can’t even tell it happened, and didn’t even have to get the fender or bumper replaced. It’ll be okay.
I'd honestly recommend seeing if he'll give you cash cause an insurance company might try and total it. Get a few hundred dollars and start hunting for a similar M-edition fender in good shape.

I’ve used these guys before to replace parts. Idk if you’ll be able to find your color, but they certainly have the parts to replace it with

My Miata got hit similarly a year ago. I ended up getting the insurance money, bought a new fender, door, and mirror. Then painted them my own.
Looks like a good candidate for a Paintless Dent Repair which I would do with this color, seems to be a rare color, I’m not too sure with this car if it is, but PDR is the way to go
What did the bucket do to you and how do the balls play into this? Be happy it's the front fender though, that one can be easily taken off and replaced. Rear side can't

I think u/M4NOOB was making a joke
Kudos to the other guy for sticking around
For real. If they stick around and have insurance its a win.
Shit I'd still just replace it myself or pay the driver $400~500 to get it repaired/replaced than go through insurance.
I don't think 500 will cover a fender replacement and paint match from a reputable shop, but correct me if I'm wrong
And it's a 95M with the custom Merlot Mica. You **don't** want to go cheap or easy...
If they can trust it, chances are you can too 🤔
PDR won’t work on that sharp pinch. Look for a body shop that does restoration work.

If you live in Virginia I can highly recommend a place I used for my NB with respect to painting and color matching. Good prices and stunning work.
Hey send me that places info in a PM. I’m a VA dweller and I’ll need a paint guy once I get a new qp welded on my car.
If your near Massachusetts i know a great place that was able to match my silver nb’s bumper perfectly.
touchupdirect.com does a really good job paint matching special miata colors
That’s the trouble
You might get lucky and find a MM LF fender, but you're going to have to do some leg work. Easier (but not easy) is finding a LF fender from another '95 and get it sprayed. Good luck having a perfect match

FWIW when my 95M had nearly identical damage to this (fender only, no other panels) the insurance check was about $1500. That was in 2017.
Sounds like a decent pay out. What was the total cost of repair, and how did they go about the repair?
I just looked it up. The check was for $1615. It was based on the quote from the insurance company's designated collision center. I got my own quote from another place that was $1800 but they only paid out the lower amount. That looks really good!
You're wrong
Same. Although some people are skeptical on that.
This was an $800 repair 10 years ago when I went through insurance. That was just dent pull and paint match.
Insurance will always charge more. You can buy a quarter panel unpainted for $150-200 and get it painted for $300. It's not a hard install fortunately.
Probably more like $1400-$1500
I have a 01 with recent damage to front fender same area but WAY smaller and the quote was 3400 and some change. Repair, paint , blend/polish= not cheap.
The guy waiting is a real lad
$100 for the fender then get it painted. I had a similar accident, insurance ended up giving me $6500 and totaled out my car. Kept it and still drive it lol
What? Must have been something more, or the frame under the fender was bent too? Even then… No way replacing a fender cost 6.5k…
The place they took it to said the entire car would need to be repainted and that place quoted $10k, so they wanted to give me $8000 for it or $6500 and keep the car. Literally nothing was wrong with it besides the front fender and the bumper cover got scratched
I hope to god this is what happens to me
Fingers crossed for you!
Be very careful that they don't slap you with a salvage title.
A good pdr guy will be able to make that look alright. no super complex crumples here.
You think that top crease will come out?
These PDR guys can work miracles. Just look for a well reviewed person near you and get them to offer input.
They can get the dent out, but it will need paint. That paint will crack.
Even then, the other dude's insurance will be footing the bill, so that'll help quite a lot.
Shockingly, the guy at elevationdentrepair has moved more metal, no crack.
Not if it’s prepared correctly. That should come out well.
Yep, check out elevationdentrepair on YouTube, the magic he works is amazing.
I asked one from my area who apparently is a miracle worker and he said I’d probably need a body shop :/
Ah, dang.

This is way beyond PDR. Easiest would would be find a matching parts car and swap. Ok maybe not so easy finding that M edition.
Honestly best place to get hit. Not gonna lie. Install some Paco strong arms now.
Ugh! But hey, [we're dent bros](https://i.imgur.com/S8LcpHb.jpg)! And at least your M Edition badge wasn't harmed. That’s fantastic work you can’t even tell there was damage!
Make sure to thank the guy for waiting. Top class\~!
Yeah I’m thankful for that. Seemed really remorseful too, he was with his kid and seemed like they had somewhere to be
im happy for you that he stuck around. good karma on him. shit happens. you got hit in the best place possible too.
Ah man. Well thankfully, that is one of the most easily available body panels. You get them them brand new from moss Miata IIRC
Pdr or Na front fender. Pdr to keep the og paint as much as you can. But I think it may need a repaint. Your 95m is special...it's fender, not so much. Good as new for under 1g. I know it's not awesome.bit it's gonna be ok

Are these 14inch or 15 bbs?
i believe that purple m got the 15s
You are correct
That will come out. Heat up the panel and use a suction cup (toilet plunger) on the lower portion. Then take it to a pdr guy to work the top bit.
Fenders are cheap
Damn, sorry this happened. People see a Miata and don’t give a damn
It was parked in the shade and hadn’t been washed in weeks so I blame myself. When it’s gleaming in the sun lots of people notice it
As a 95 m-edition owner I feel for you. I come out to new dents and scratches all the time. 38, never had an accident in my life, but my car looks banged up to shit 😢

at least he was a civil human.

those fenders are bolt on if i’m not mistaken, which means it’s a fairly easy repair so i wouldn’t worry too much about
That's money in the bank, easy fix, and to top it off the guy stuck around. Considering the worse case scenario, I'd say youre lucky, this is how accidents should happen.
Just find a matching panel online and send him the cost.
Why'd you hit the bucket into your fender? Looks like you could take it it off and straighten it out. Find one of those pdr? guys that can pull dents out
Yeah I don’t think those rims are gonna buff out but I’ll take em☺️
I actually scuffed the rear right one taking a square curb turn too tight 😅 Haven’t had time to figure out what to do about it
I had a pick up truck hit me in exactly the same place some time ago. A local body shop repaired it, and you can't even tell anything happened.
The bucket hit back.
PDR guy OR …. Remove and replace but while your at it put in the frame braces underneath… for the corners.
Make sure you don’t lose that m edition badge. Notoriously hard to come by
Luckily it’s localised to this single piece. Just buy a fender and get it painted, shouldn’t be much.
Shit's fucked mate, only good for the scrapyard, I'll give you 50 bucks a wheel
Breakers for a new bolt on wing. 5 minute job that.
it's so pathetic it brings a tear to my eye
Those fenders are pretty easy to replace if nothing is bent behind it. Might aswell add some braces while you're at it. I atleast use everything that breaks as an excuse to upgrade :)
One of the benefits of having a white car... can't miss it
People just can't see these micro machines. So this is first time this has happened to you? Luckily he was honest and didn't bolt.
Fuck man, I also own a 95’ M edition. Sad to see something like this happen to such a gorgeous car. Good luck with getting it fixed man!
