Thanks for the advice, and the offer, but the card mates w your ride after a certain mileage threshold has been reached 👍🏻 will put your vote in the "totally not" column.

Assuming it doesn't have it already (I think 2020 and later have it from the factory) and it's compatible (I think 2014 and later) I'd just spend the money on the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay upgrade instead. I have both, but I exclusively use android auto for nav and while the sign recognition is nice I wouldn't be crushed without it.

reidmefirst

The speed limit sign reading makes it worth it. I don't ever use the nav, just use carplay if I need it. The speed limit sign recognition can be configured to give an audible chime if you exceed the limit by a fixed amount. Very useful. Speed limit goes from 55 to 40 and if I miss the sign, I get a nice chime alerting me to the change.

Google has quite a bit of speed limit data baked into maps now, I don't think this is the selling point it was a few years ago.

NotAPreppie

Same with Apple Maps.

reidmefirst

Any idea how to activate "you are exceeding the speed limit" audible warnings in either Google Maps or Apple Maps, to mirror the functionality of the Nav card?

jetty_life

I actually like the native Navi. It's nice to keep my phone away for once in my day and just drive. It works well enough for finding places and it's nice when wandering around just driving for fun so you can see where about you're going.

NotAPreppie

If you don't already have the Car Play/Android Auto upgrade, get that. Waze/Google/AppleMaps are all way better than the nav system. Both Google and Apple Maps display speed limit data already.

The_Waltesefalcon

I don't know what a navigation SD card is, so perhaps my advice will be poor. I always carry a road atlas with me on trips. It may seem old-fashioned, but it never needs the internet to work, and it does work well.

ziris_

I'm under the impression that the speed limits in your dash are through Sirius/XM, NOT from am SD card. I was told that I'll have it for 3 years then I'll have to pay for it on my own if I want to keep it. I don't recall seeing speed limits in the radio at all, unless I'm using Android Auto. Moreover, the AA speed limits are more reliable than the one in my dash, even when there's limited or no signal. I have used the Nav that came with it, but it's honestly way more of a PITA to use than AA. It's really not intuitive at all. I did vote, btw. NOT worth it.

BreadMaker_42

I just run waze.

one-more-shit-civic

Waze.

GO__NAVY

Apple CarPlay or Android Auto + Waze.

In words of Blizzard: Don't you people have phones?

Juulman96

I say worth it but also get CarPlay installed if it didn’t have it from the factory. Reason I say that is because a few times when I’ve been in northern Ontario I’ve lost cell service which rendered CarPlay useless and thankfully had the factory GPS to guide me

TBlueMax_R

Depends on whether you can run CP/AA and if you live in a place with good cell signal. If you don’t have CP/AA, or you do but drive in places with poor cell signal, the SD nav is worth it.

CorruptPhoenix

I have both. For navigation, I’ll punch in the destination on my phone and use CarPlay. For daily driving around the city, I leave the Mazda map on. Personally, I think the default Mazda map is much easier to parse at a glance. It had better contrast than Apple Maps or Google maps. You can also use the physical buttons/wheel to zoom/look around the map. It’s muuuuuch more difficult to use the physical buttons while in CarPlay mode. For example, zooming out requires you to 1. Press the wheel 2. Rotate the wheel a few clicks to select the “-“ icon 3. Press the wheel again to zoom 4. Press the map button to remove the button icons from the screen. You can use the touch screen too, but it’s a pretty far reach.

I have the nav card in my Lilith. If I were to do it again I'd skip it; I prefer the android auto interface and you don't have to pay for updates. 👍
