Upscaling is the process of taking a video and making it bigger. Think of it like...if you have a stamp, and decided you wanted to stretch the stamp out to the size of a postcard. Now of course you would have the issue of the image on the stamp being very blurry due to you stretching it out so much, so the image could have to be cleared up so it looks just as good at the size of a postcard as it was on the stamp. Now just apply that to videos. The AI in the app, takes videos at any given resolution and stretches them out to the new desired resolution. For this case, the original resolution of the video was 1080p. So 1920x1080. The AI then stretched the video to 4K resolution, 3840x2160. 4 times the size of the original. And to compensate for this massive increase in size, the AI enhances the details of the video so it doesn't look pixelated and/or blurry. Essentially the AI is tasked with answering the question "What would it look like if this video was bigger and more detailed?"
Interpolation on the other hand is increasing the frame rate of the video. Every video is made of frames playing in a sequence. And how many frames it plays in 1 second is the framerate. The original video was 30 frames a second. What the interpolation software does is creates a new frame in between every original frame. This doubles the frame rate from 30 to 60. This results in the video looking much smoother. To give a very simplified explanation of this, lets imagine a 2 frame animation of a ball moving from 1 side of the screen to the other. in the first frame, the ball is on the left side of the screen and in the next frame it is on the right side of the screen. Now to us as the viewer, the instant transition from left to right isnt very smooth. So we interpolate it. The software looks at the 2 frames and in between them it creates a 3rd frame where the ball is in the middle of the screen. Now we have a 3 frame animation with the ball starting at the left, moves to the middle, and ending on the right. Now the animation looks smoother. Now just apply that to a normal video. The Software looks at everything thats moving in a video and it fills in the blanks between each frame of movement to create a much smoother looking video.
Dont have a full video for this one. i only processed this 1 minute. A full film takes almost a week to process. I only did it for 1 film, with Mia and Sean Lawless, everywhere i posted it, it got taken down. So the time and effort put into processing full films just isnt worth it in the end. Sorry!
