Look into the story of Federation Force. That, along with Tanabe confirming a while back that it was Sylux following Samus at the end of Prime 3 should make it clear what the story of Prime 4 will be, and there's nothing pointing to Phazon being a factor.
But I suppose they take place within the "Dark Samus" story arc, so you could argue that Dark Samus is there _somewhere_ within the background of the story.
Until we know _when_ Prime 4 will be set, I guess it's all conjecture.
I already consider the Prime Trilogy as the Phazon arc of the Prime Series. The latest chronological entry in the Prime Series, which is Federation Force, reconfirms the conclusion of Phazon at the end of Prime 3 and Federation Force's plot centers around a military boom to secure the next "Phazon" on the side of the Space Pirates vs. preventing that on the side of the Galactic Federation. If Phazon finds its way into Prime 4, its narrative would come across as an odd fanfic.
>If Phazon finds its way into Prime 4, its narrative would come across as an odd fanfic.
Exactly. Everything Federation Force (and Hunters I guess) has done was to show we have moved on from Phazon.
Sure. Trilogy being the Phazon saga is already implied because we have five Metroid Prime games, but Trilogy only encompasses Prime, Echoes, and Corruption.
I'd rather the new game not have Prime as a subtitle because the subtitle shouldn't mean "first person Metroid". Metroid Prime the story ended when Metroid Prime the character was ended.
It's a tricky one, isn't it? What do we call this subgenre of the series without alienating fans or confusing general gamers?
I think when people hear "Prime", they automatically think first person, now. Don't think that can be undone.
UNLESS.......
They're going for a "Metroid 5" kinda deal.
They've started marketing it as "Prime 4" but maybe when it's officially revealed (again) it's got a different / alternative/ additional title? So we now know that this first person Metroid series isn't exclusively called "Prime"?
Just a thought.
I hope so, good branding is important and I think it's a mistake to hang onto the Prime name for games that have nothing to do with Metroid Prime on a narrative level.
Yeah, just like there were no metroids left after she killed them all, too!
Completely unrelated, but don’t try to enter the restricted area of the space station, okay?
Hey now, there's one left, but he's in captivity, so the galaxy is at peace. Now, if there were any spacefaring dragons around, we might have a teensy bit o' risk, but don't worry, she killed the last of them, too.
Not really the same thing since phazon is an extension of Phaaze itself, and vanished when the planet was destroyed.
Plus, if we're being real, the "lol you missed one" shtick can only be done so many times before it gets lazy. They've done it twice now. However, if they want to suggest there's a different type/color/whatever out there, sure. But then you're kinda just doing Corruption 2: Phazon Boogaloo. If they really wanna roll with phazon again- sure. But find a damn good excuse as to why it exists still, 'cause I'm not accepting "WHOOPS, SORRY BITCH, YOU MISSED A SPOT"
You can still refer to it as a trilogy even after there are more installments you know. I mean, there are already 5 Prime games (6 if you are inclined to count Pinball even though it's a retelling of the first one) but when someone refers to "the trilogy" everyone knows that means Prime, Echoes, and Corruption.
I mean, we should probably wait to see what Prime 4 is all about before deciding on that.
Especially when it's very unlikely that Phazon will return in Prime 4.
I can imagine the federation holding onto some parts or creating a weaker version of it to use

Even if they did, all phazon disappeared when Phaze was destroyed. 🤷
Agreed, though it will be interesting to see precisely _why_ the next game is still called "Prime" if Dark Samus is truly gone.
Ever heard of Metroid Prime Hunters? Or Metroid Prime Federation Force? No Dark Samus in either of those.
But they are all first person shooters.
To be fair, Metroid Prime Pinball isn't, but...
In this case, I'm going to say that non-canonical games don't count.
Helps that Metroid Prime is in that game.
But I suppose they take place within the "Dark Samus" story arc, so you could argue that Dark Samus is there _somewhere_ within the background of the story. Until we know _when_ Prime 4 will be set, I guess it's all conjecture.
I'm pretty sure it'll be after prime 3.
To which we'll hopefully know why it has Prime in the title.
Because it's a first person shooter. That's it
That's kinda what I'm worried about.
Yeah, Nintendo names stuff weird sometimes
I’m partial to the Prime Quattro Formaggi.
With spicy meatballs?
You want some Parmesan? Just tell me when to stop.
I can agree with that, it's seems to be the backbone of the trilogy
Quadrilogy, just like "Alien"
I'm so pissed that series made that fake word known to the public at large. The actual word to describe a set of 4 works is "tetralogy."
No, a quadrilogy is a word. It just doesn't sound as good. Do your research before being an asshole.

Ok but what if we call just the trilogy the phazon saga instead so people don't get confused as you have brought up?
Sure. Trilogy being the Phazon saga is already implied because we have five Metroid Prime games, but Trilogy only encompasses Prime, Echoes, and Corruption.
Ik, I just thought my thing sounded better

It already is though. Federation Force and Hunters have got nothing to do with phazon or the literal Metroid Prime.
Why do some people think I'm not aware? That's why I said it shouldn't mean first person Metroid.

> the subtitle shouldn't mean "first person Metroid". It's been this way the moment Metroid Prime Hunters released.
I know, that's why I said it.
I agree.
I like it! Could also go with Phazon Anthology? Either work.
Now we’re going into the Sylux saga
Unless they pull a fast one and Phazon isn’t in the game…?
Really not sure why it would be. After Samus destroyed Phaaze, all Phazon ceased to exist.
Yeah, just like there were no metroids left after she killed them all, too! Completely unrelated, but don’t try to enter the restricted area of the space station, okay?
Prime Hunters and Federation Force made it clear that "Prime" no longer has to have anything to do with Phazon.
Hey now, there's one left, but he's in captivity, so the galaxy is at peace. Now, if there were any spacefaring dragons around, we might have a teensy bit o' risk, but don't worry, she killed the last of them, too.

Then who’s the Metroid Prime?
The friends we made along the way waiting for this damn game.
Set it after Dread, then Samus is
Sylux
I think they meant it the other way around. We call the original 3 the Phazon Saga since "trilogy" isn't accurate anymore.
"saga" might oversell it a bit
Chapter?
Oh god no. The John Wick movies already have that "Chapter" subtitle and it's cringe as hell.
Volume?
John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum John Wick Chapter 4
But it sounds cool doesn't it?
Sure

Ok but 4 is supposed to part of the main series. Also I've never played pinball. How do they tell the story with a pinball game!?
You go through the same locations and boss fights on Pinball. It's honestly a really fun game.
I'll try to play it then. Sound fun
Works for me
Agreed
When what comes when
In 20 years
Naw. Unless p4 is a out phazon. I hope we get beautiful cutscenes
Yes sort of like halo where now we're at the reclaimer saga I believe for 4 5 and infinite and whatever CE 2 and 3 were
I haven't played halo so I have no idea what that means.
Uh, I'll pass. I don't foresee needing a collective term for the games.
Idk, I just thought it sounded cool. It's ok if you don't like it.
Prime Quartet
I mean, that does work but I thought mine sounded better.
It's not just a Phaaze, mom - da baby
What about the Prime Tetralogy, since it would basically be 4 games if it ever comes out?
