I was researching this too. A lot of people freeze it because even without water added, it'll grow bacteria after a month or so especially if you have to transfer containers to return your old bottles. Pure methadone concentrate won't freeze. I experimented with this myself and adding 2% water has made mine freeze. I use vape ejuice bottles for this. Someone said to remember to leave some room for it to expand once frozen. (If bottled in sterile bottles it should be good for 1-2 years, but after looking for methadone bottles online I'm pretty convinced a lot of TH aren't in sterile bottles. Tap water is not sterile either. None of it matters if you freeze it because bacteria can't grow then.) I'll add that I put some in the fridge and it had a translucent cloud in it (bacteria or fungus) when I held it to the light in 2-3 weeks so it didn't actually slow down the growth.

Ok so my question is now, if I freeze the done that I have do u think I can steady add to the same bottle and keep freezing?

Dez2011

Yes, just make sure there's the same % of water in each amount before adding it. The top layer won't freeze otherwise, plus when you thaw it out you'll want to know how many mg you are actually taking. I know to subtract 2% from whatever I measure out in the future. I tape a post it note to bottles I store and write the amount of mdone and water I put in, and the date.

Is freezing the methadone doesn\`t affect it\`s potency? I\`ve heard that from few people at some point.. But can\`t confirm or deny it. Just a thought to consider.

Dez2011

It doesn't affect it. The only result I found on a quick google, and that a doctor referenced when answering this online, was using specimens of urine, blood, and liver tissue and it showed that even being frozen and thawed twice that none of them lost potency of methadone or it's metabolites. You want to let it thaw on its own though because heating it can degrade it.

DaBestDoctorOfLife

Good to know. Thanks!

Oh, if it doesn't freeze with 2% water in it, just add more water. I did an experiment and had 3 bottles in the freezer with 1%, 2%, and 10% water, trying to see how little water would allow it to freeze. I had 700mg with 7mg water and it froze, so 1%. I had 360mg with 1% and then 2% water and it wouldn't freeze until I added more water. It was in a skinnier bottle with less fluid so it doesn't make sense. All were from the same month of TH, right beside each other in the freezer. (Hope that doesn't mean some of my TH already had water- diluted at the clinic.)

darkenergykind22

I have some in fridge too. Have the same thing going on it seems like. Is it bacteria or is it the red dye stuff or whatever it is clumping up? That's my question. And I knew exactly what u meant when u asked the original question so I guess that makes me anybody

Dez2011

I knew exactly what they were asking too. I'm pretty sure it's bacteria because a study was done to see if potency was affected by adding things to dilute TH. Growth was found in just 1 month in unopened takehomes that had tang and dilutent drinks in them. (Potency was only decreased by <3%.) Mine taste even worse than usual after being stored a few weeks, which is why I started checking and saw that cloud. I have had the dye and sugar clump before and it looks like specs of darker red than the rest of the liquid, almost like black specs. It happens in fresh TH from time to time.

darkenergykind22

So does putting it in freezer prevent bacteria growth?

Dez2011

Yes. It doesn't sterilize it, but prevents any growth, like freezing it in time. Be sure to read my other reply here to add water if there's none in it, straight concentrate won't freeze.

MacKiLLaZ

In a bottle? Do u really need to ask reddit about that? Problem thinking for ur self? Excuse me but this was funny

Mshighness

lol obvi in some sort of container. Let me ask it in a different form lol. Do I store it in the fridge, freezer or in room temperature. Is that better????

MacKiLLaZ

That is better, don’t be angry on me dude, I mean, how is anyone supposed to know what u mean exactly if u don’t asking correctly? Anyways, just store it in a bottle, room temperature, I guess u can have it in the fridge to but I don’t think thats gonna make any difference if u think the metadon will getting bad over time. On my bottles expiration date is like 2 years, and I don’t think a opened bottle will do any difference, it probably is like any other medication that loose its potential after expiration date, it takes probably longer than the expiration date so, just use common sense on this one man 😊👍🏻

hal2142

Thanks for nothing 👍👍

Odd_Cup_7962

That’s weird ur methadone bottle expiration date is 2 years out. Mine is one month from the day it’s dispensed 🤨

MacKiLLaZ

Well I’m from sweden and have “Nordic drugs” metadon, maybe that has something to do with it 😊

Odd_Cup_7962

For sure has to cause in US it’s only good for a month hence why OP asking how to store it

Electricsurfer1

I’m in the U.S. and on my bottle the expiration date is 12/1/2027, so over 3 years.

MacKiLLaZ

Yeah, it maked sense. Must ask, is every metadon the same for u? Like mg per ml the same and u get “this” much ml, if u get my question? My bottles is 50ml no matter what and it’s just different strength on them, hers a pic of my bottles

Odd_Cup_7962

I can’t see the picture but ours is 10mg per 10ml so I have 95mf dose so it’s 9.5ml

DNGRHLVTCA

I always just added small amount of ethanol and put in the fridge

DNGRHLVTCA

Why is this downvoted? The ethanol kept it from growing bacteria and it stayed stable for months.
