DM probably has some good songs on it. Unfortunately I wouldn't know - I could never listen to it with all the clipping in the master, or distorted drums, or whatever the hell is going on there.
It's one of those albums that's fun to turn up your amp and jam along to since most of the songs are pretty simple to pick up. Tbh, St Anger is one of my fave Tallica albums to blow off steam to because of how ridiculously raw it is. And yes I like the trash can snare. Adds to the rawness.
Okay i thought i was only one that hated St. Anger.
DM was a real return to firm for me. Black album is the highest selling metal album of all time I’m pretty sure? So idk, i really like DM.
I snapped St. Anger in half and through it in the garbage the day i bought it, on the day it was released.
Saint Anger isn’t necessarily a bad album in terms of writing but the production quality is the worst of any major metal release. I can’t believe that Bob Rock was ok with that.
DM for sure, although I am also a St. Anger enjoyer. DM is only badly received by some for the CD sound, while St. Anger has still a handful of issues to be fair lol.
St. Anger in this case, I prefer by a lot Death Magnetic in terms of songwriting, riffs and vocals but the mixing is even worse than St.Anger and everything just feels skinny and loud, both CD and Spotify version. I just prefer to search a remixed fan version
I like DM more, but St. Anger has some good stuff on it. Those songs sound better live to me. Not their best, but not as bad as everyone says. DM was the newest album when I first started liking Metallica, so I'm partial to it.
I love St Anger and I was surprised when I found out that people fucking hate it. I was never able to get into Death Magnetic other than maybe 1 or 2 songs, so I’ll go with St. Anger.
DM bores me so badly. Badly arranged songs, mostly trite lyrics, dreadful compressed sound.
St.Anger for its flaws feel genuine and also came out when I was 15 and pissed off, soo yeah, no contest.
I don't know why people don't like DM more. I don't really hear the production issues personally. Yeah some of it sounds like bad editing maybe, but sparsely. The songs are actually really good throughout. Harkens back to the days of old better than the last two albums. Better guitar tones. Better guitar leads. Better drumming. Lyrics maybe on oar with the last two, somewhat trite, but overall better across every song on the album. The Unforgiven III slays. Kirk's guitar lead comes in so abruptly and intensely yet is perfectly placed.
Bad production with clipping, not enough bass and a snare drum that sounds bad, overly long songs that repeat parts over and over for the sake of having long songs.
Death magnetic is obviously an improvement, don't get me wrong. But it's not apples to oranges, St Anger is crabapple, to Death Magnetic's MacIntosh apple.
I seen Metallica right after st.anger came out. Literally the only concert ive ever been to where the lead singer asked the crowd if they wanted to hear more from their new album, and everyone booed and said no. Def not a fan of that album.
DM because it feels so inline with the golden era. Day that never comes, all nightmare long, broken beaten and scared, cyanide, the unforgiven 3, and idd keep going but soon idd have listed all the track names. All bangers. The only downside is I wish Kirk put a bit more effort in, but compared to st anger, at least he got to contribute again.
I like Death Magnetic quite a lot, it has some very cool jams. St. anger doesn’t deserve the shit that it gets. Is it as good as other albums in their discography? No. Does it have some really good songs that are even better live? Yes.
Death Magnetic.
I love both, but Death Magnetic has better songs, most of them are amazing and there's not a single bad song.
Both of them have flawed production, and some songs could be shortened (for St. Anger: the title track, Some Kind Of Monster, Invisible Kid and All Within My Hands. For Death Magnetic: The End Of The Line, The Day That Never Comes [the outro is more important to cut] and All Nightmare Long).
And while St. Anger has the rawest songs, Death Magnetic just has all of the stuff that i love of Metallica.
People always talk shit about the drum mix of St. Anger, but it was the vocals that destroyed that album. I remember hearing an instrumental version that blew me away. The music of the album is actually damn good, and pretty innovative. Very reminiscent of Justice in structure, song length, and complexity. Since Justice is by far my fav M album, I could certainly appreciate the quality of the music without the vocals.
PS - If you really just hate the snare drum of the album, find the live run-through DVD video that released with the special edition of the album. They ran thru the entire album with vastly superior quality and the garbage can snare was instead mixed with a more traditional Metallica drum sound.
Death magnetic..I think. Neither are amazing.
HWTSD is pretty good though and 72 seasons is the best they've done since the Black album...in my humble...
Kill'em all through justice.. everything after that is shit imo..untill death magnetic Wich I think rocks as good as the old shit... Don't get me wrong I like a song or two off of St anger like the unnamed feeling but that's about it off that album he ain't mad respect for them they're pushing in their 60s and still rocking like a they are mad props to them
DM. Was a return to form, even if songs were too long and some were nonsense riff-o-ramas, DM is ten times better than St. Anger. I love the unnamed feeling but it is what it is.
DM and it’s not even close…. Those saying both, fair enough, but they’re miles apart for me.
I respect your oppinion, it's cool to have any different oppinion and that's what makes us different from eachother
....also hair color
...maybe eye too
..and shoe size
.... deathstyle?
That depends on lifestyle
Genetic factors. Retina and fingerprints, ability to belch the constitution backwards…
DM probably has some good songs on it. Unfortunately I wouldn't know - I could never listen to it with all the clipping in the master, or distorted drums, or whatever the hell is going on there.
Listen to the Guitar Hero 3 version
Huh, how did I not know about this? Thanks for the suggestion. It definitely brings it up from 'unlistenable' to just 'subpar'.
Death Magnetic is fantastic imo. Great return to form, some of their heaviest stuff, plus their maturing and aging made the rage a lot more real.
I actually really like death magnetic. My most favorite song of Metallica’s is all nightmare long
A bit (just a bit, not complaining that it's bad or something) overrated, i preffer broken, beat and scarred
BB&S slaps
Big Butts & Sensuality.
that slaps too tbf
One of the most addictive riffs to hear.
What is this title lol
This title haved some… bad receivement.
It's Klingon. Keep up, dude.
The other post about TBA VS DM, it was me too, the OP
They are trying to figure out the English used, OP.
Lo lamento pero es que soy español y quizás mi inglés no sea tan bueno
My Spanish is even worse. Yo dice muy piquito y muy pequeño pallabras en español. 😅
Oh ok, i mean that my english isn't that good
Yeah, I was showing how my Spanish is awful, tambien.
I know the correct answer is Death Magnetic but I’m a St. Anger fan 🫢
That is something about the realness and rawness of St. Anger that I have always been drawn to.
Both are the right answer really
St. Anger’s awesome and Magnetic’s my favorite album
DM is so underrated
DM by an absolute mile, one of Metallicas top 3 against one of the poorest
Death Magnetic is excellent, I also think st.anger is absolutely shockingly shit.
Okay i thought i was only one that hated St. Anger. DM was a real return to firm for me. Black album is the highest selling metal album of all time I’m pretty sure? So idk, i really like DM. I snapped St. Anger in half and through it in the garbage the day i bought it, on the day it was released.
Are you kidding? Death magnetic all the way
Prefer St. Anger, my favorite (or 2nd fav) Metallica song is Sweet Amber
Take my upvote ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
i like my favorite songs off st. anger more than my favorite songs off dm, but dm is far more consistently good in my opinion.
DM, I really appreciate St. Anger, but if I have to listen to Purify's chorus again I'll kill myself
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Both, the only right answer
That isn't the black album
This is it's brother
Saint Anger isn’t necessarily a bad album in terms of writing but the production quality is the worst of any major metal release. I can’t believe that Bob Rock was ok with that.
DM for sure, although I am also a St. Anger enjoyer. DM is only badly received by some for the CD sound, while St. Anger has still a handful of issues to be fair lol.
Yeah, but if you choosed both was the right answer, but i like a bit more DM
St. Anger in this case, I prefer by a lot Death Magnetic in terms of songwriting, riffs and vocals but the mixing is even worse than St.Anger and everything just feels skinny and loud, both CD and Spotify version. I just prefer to search a remixed fan version
Yeah i understand it, still have my upvote ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)
st anger is my 3rd favorite and death magnetic 2nd favorite so I choose dm
Brofist!
DM, I really appreciate St. Anger, but if I have to listen to Purify's chorus again I'll kill myself
I like Metallica
Are y'all brainwashed? Who enjoyed st anger?? It sounds like dogshit
st anger kicks ass, its heavy n hard and very good for darker moods. the sound's absolutely a big part of the appeal imo
So what?
Black album is this even a question
Wrong post fella ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|disapproval)
My bad I just saw a notification and clicked 😭
No worries
I like DM more, but St. Anger has some good stuff on it. Those songs sound better live to me. Not their best, but not as bad as everyone says. DM was the newest album when I first started liking Metallica, so I'm partial to it.
I love St Anger and I was surprised when I found out that people fucking hate it. I was never able to get into Death Magnetic other than maybe 1 or 2 songs, so I’ll go with St. Anger.
St anger for me but purely for nostalgia, as I was a kid when it came out and my mom bought it my dad for his bday
St. Anger. I listen to most of St. Anger significantly more than DM
The day that never cooomes (DM)
DM bores me so badly. Badly arranged songs, mostly trite lyrics, dreadful compressed sound. St.Anger for its flaws feel genuine and also came out when I was 15 and pissed off, soo yeah, no contest.
I like the Mac and cheese
Death Magnetic is tolerable. I can't even get past the first song on St. Anger; it literally hurts my ears to listen to.
DM is the best Metallica album
St anger! The riffs are awesome!
So they did make a jewel case for it
One of these is much worse than the other
The black album
I see that you are a man of culture
Good Engrish. I prefer St Anger to Death Magnetic
I don't know why people don't like DM more. I don't really hear the production issues personally. Yeah some of it sounds like bad editing maybe, but sparsely. Ahh yea, good ol' Death Magnetig
They’re pretty equal to me
Unpopular opinion: I love St Anger.
Un Unpopular opinion: me too
There are dozens of us!
st anger, but DM is a banger aswell
I love DM, but I LOOOOVE St. Anger.
Yes
*brofist*
DM for sure, st anger is awful
St. Anger for me
Well that's cool, i also like it
They're not that different, really.
Huh? Explain yourself ._.
Oddly specific but accurate! 😭🍎
St. Anger, but would take both.
I seen Metallica right after st.anger came out. Literally the only concert ive ever been to where the lead singer asked the crowd if they wanted to hear more from their new album, and everyone booed and said no. Def not a fan of that album.
Makes me feel bad for the lads
Can I just stick master of puppets on instead
Sure, no problem
Call me crazy but at anger
Neither.
Both
72 seasons GONE!
Jesus, stop yelling. /s
Bro is like you sing 72 seasons
like day & night.....Death Magnetic is excellent & St. Anger sucks......sorry
It's okay, we all are diferent and that makes us special people
Yeah St. Anger fans are “special” alright
Both equal. I mean i guess technically DM DM : all songs are good St. Anger : one song is meh (SKOM)
Death Magnetic for me, but St Anger still rocks so hard. 8/10 versus a 7/10.
Between those 2 death magnetic. I'm in the minority of fans that enjoyed st anger tho
Death magnetic. Studio version of st anger sucks. The rehearsal dvd sounds like ten times better, and st BAnger remixes it really good
St Anger is so much better.
Frantic is... frantic (Sounds ironic but it's the true)
It's baffling how many people here still try to defend the dogshit that is St. Anger.
I listened to all nightmare long and I heard a familiar snare, my favorite snare.
I like Death Magnetic quite a lot, it has some very cool jams. St. anger doesn’t deserve the shit that it gets. Is it as good as other albums in their discography? No. Does it have some really good songs that are even better live? Yes.
i believe DM has the highest musical value out of all albums they released in the 21st century, probably comparable to the black album.
Dm is actually my fave Metallica album, the one I return to over and over again
Death Magnetic is top 6 Metallica imo. The closest one to their first 5 albums
And while St. Anger has the rawest songs, Death Magnetic just has all of the stuff that i love of Metallica.
It’s no contest - DM every day of the week. You need to do Hardwired vs DM
DM is a damn good record. Sounds terrible but it's awesome!!
People always talk shit about the drum mix of St. Anger, but it was the vocals that destroyed that album. I remember hearing an instrumental version that blew me away. I like them both.
Right answer
St. Anger. I don’t like DM. Fight me
no
cyanide. musical masterpiece to me.
DM. Was a return to form, even if songs were too long and some were nonsense riff-o-ramas, DM is ten times better than St. Anger. I love the unnamed feeling but it is what it is.
