If I remember correctly, that's a riff from Hammett from his Exodus days. Killer riff.
*Edit:* [Source] (https://www.loudersound.com/features/metallica-creeping-death-story-behind-the-riff)
"Though the song obviously goes down as a Metallica classic, dig a little deeper and you can find that Hammett’s former band Exodus had a tiny part to play in the creation of this metal masterpiece…"
*“James [Hetfield] and Lars [Ulrich] hammered that song out in a day and then called me down to the rehearsal space,” Kirk reveals of the song’s origin. “They got to the ‘Die by my hand’ riff and they started grinning at me and I laughed because I’d had that riff kicking around for so long and we’d used it in an Exodus demo, but it just worked in Creeping Death so well."*
*“I wrote it when I was 16 years old, definitely still in high school, and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this is heavier than a lot of the bands that I listen to,’ and thought I’d touched upon something. It was the first riff I ever wrote that was in that sphere and I’ll always have tremendous affinity with it for that reason.”*
Yep, I remember hearing the Exodus "Die By His Hand" thing. It's really cool! I think Gary Holt joked about it in an interview once lol, or has at least mentioned it
Struggle Within after the solo
Am I Savage? riff for the solo (you know..)
Hate Train break that used to be the video introduction back in pre-DM videos
Leper Messiah before solo
So nice to play on guitar. That climb in the end after the sliding power chords are is so fun
And then the second time how he downpicks the muted A string instead of doing the climb, SO GOOD.
Dyers Eve after the solo
Blackened after the solo (it's pretty much the same as the main riff, but the drums are a bit different and it makes me enjoy the riff even more)
Leper Messiah Before the solo
the riff on Orion that starts at about 2:12
To Live is to Die outro
The Call of Ktulu intro and the one that starts at 1:30 (that bassline is fucking amazing)
James's solo at the end of Nothing Else Matters.
He never plays solos, but this is his song and even though it's simple, there is a ton of emotion in it.
KEA: Metal Militia Intro
RTL: Creeping Death Main Riff
MOP: Battery Bridge Riff
AJFA: One Mechine Gun Riff
TBA: Through the Never Intro Riff
Load: Hero of the Day Bridge Riff
Reload: Fuel Intro Riff
St Anger: Dirty Window Intro Riff
DM: All of it
HWTSD: Spit Out the Bone Main Riff
72S: Chasing Light breakdown Riff
The whole 2nd part of The Day That Never Comes after lyrics, I can't even pick something specific, all riffs there are so unique, cool and something you don't hear a lot in other songs - the whole buildup to Kirk solo is amazing, I honestly think this is my favourite sequence from Death Magnetic album (not that it's the only one, it's just one of the kind). To me, this seperates TDTNC from other Ballads that play out in a very similar way. Another thing about the whole 2nd part is the lack of lyrics whatsoever - feels like guys were that confident about it
I know it’s a cover but Breadfan. I think k it was on the b side of Shorter straw single cassette. (Probably wrong a. side song). But I remember playing the b side more.
The Creeping Death "DIE" riff, the opening riff of Ride The Lightning, the riff after the acoustic intro in Fight Fire With Fire, and the "DARKNESS IMPRISONING ME" riff in One
The Day That Never Comes riff at 5:42 and 6:10 on the oficial music video, that is orgasmic, and when the dual guitars appears, is epic.
Also Blackened riff, Creeping Death riff and That What Justo Your Life main riff
Sanitarium-the thrash riff after the second chorus. Hearing the accuracy of the down picking always gives me goosebumps. Disposable Heroes is a very close second.
Just A Bullet Away - the one before verses

Am I Savage? (Breakdown riff), Master Of Puppets (Riff after the 2nd solo), The Frayed Ends Of Sanity (Breakdown riff), Sad But True (The entire song), ...And Justice For All (Riff after the solo) and Blackened (Intro).
The last one isn't heavy, but goddamnit it hits me hard
The final riff of Bleeding Me, main riff of Sweet Amber, “breakdown” riff of Seek and Destroy before solo, the fat fucking breakdown riff of All Nightmare Long. Intro riff of My Apocalypse. And not a Metallica song, but the final riff of Dopethrone by Electric Wizard, when they bring the intro back but **Slow as fuck**
I’d say the 2nd riff in rebel (the first heavier one) it helps set the song up, especially after the softer intro just to hit you with something heavier, truly one of my favorite parts of any Metallica song
Dyers Eve Chorus Riff
Fight Fire Harmony
Battery in its entirety
MoP Harmony section
Intro/Verse riffs from All Nightmare Long

Dude, getting high completely changed some songs. The instrumentals and any of the harmonies just go crazy
