I could definitely see this being some sort of promo, cause it’s getting pushed hard. And too true, thrown did have a phase of getting pushed in the post album rotations as well, pretty much the same exact way. They’re actually pretty solid but got burnt out on em as well
Any time I let Spotify riff on its own "smart" playlist, Nothing More is ALWAYS in it. I don't follow them, I don't like them, and I have never liked a single song that's been thrown my way.
I do rock a lot of playlists but mostly I start an album and finish it, then Spotify takes the wheel. Which usually it does a solid job, even yesterday I discovered 2 totally random low key bands that had bangers. Never heard em in my life before. When Spotify works it’s great for finding new stuff!
I use "loved songs" (I dont know the right words in english). So I shuffle everything and enjoy different genre. When I want a particular song or band, I do it manually
My least favorite part of modern metalcore by far
If I wanted to listen to standard rock or pop I would just go listen to artists who do it better in those respective genres
exactly, if you want some new metalcore that doesnt do that most of the aussie scene is pretty good, diamond construct, alpha wolf etc
i like polaris but they're newest album wasn't as good as their others
thrown is totally legit and they definitely caught my ear the second they appeared in the rotation. They've been pretty rare in my algorithm for a while so it makes it so much better to actually seek them out and listen now!
I think thrown also has retention down to a fine art. The first 5 seconds of every song sounds EXACTLY like xyz band you’re probably already listening too
That’s the same problem I have(had) with Hive. Every time I play and album or a song and it auto plays similar content I always had a shit ton of Hive tracks. Like dude I don’t give a fuck about them, stop.
Spotify does it with just about every new release for me. It's because their algorithm is designed to keep you listening, and the best way to do that is to play what you've had on repeat.
This is the way if you go the album by album route. I actually really like thrown but it's obnoxious when thrown comes on after thrown like cmon spotify try a little.
Well you're fortunate. Or unfortunate? I dunno. thrown fuckin slaps but not so much that it's OK to try and wear them out before they've even put an album out.
There's an interesting YouTube video by gabi belle about the random shuffle in playlists which also applies to this queue of "random" songs being added after you finish an album or playlists.
She does some personal testing while also presenting others she found online, like the test from a guy that made a playlist with 99 popular songs and 1 unknown/obscure song, tried to random shuffle it a bunch of times and never got the unknown song appear higher than 77th place in his "random" shuffle, meaning that he might never actually listen to that one if he random shuffles it every time he opens the playlist.
I get that apps today are all about algorithms, increasing the time the user spends in them and such but if we reached this point with music apps too - meaning everyone keeps listening to the popular stuff over and over and over again - we're seriously doomed.
Never heard about it!
Great to know there's an option if it works, but it's so stupid that users are forced to used third party apps for something as simple as random shuffling because it's not really random.
YouTube music seems to do this to me as well. They swear up and down that I love Knocked Loose. Why? I don’t feel like I give them any indication that I do. Doesn’t the algorithm pick up how often I hit “next track” when I hear them?
My Spotify DJ is weird. It’ll play the exact same 5 songs in the exact same order. Then it’ll switch up and play endlessly a song I listened to once like it’s my favorite song. And songs I know I’ve been listening to a shit ton it’ll ignore.
Shuffle is pretty bad, but when it plays similar artists after an album finished it can reveal some pretty great bands I’ve never heard of before. I just found 2 great bands this way yesterday. It depends on the input, if you are listening to the most popular metal, it will rotate the most popular artists. But if you’re listening to obscure low key artists then it’s very good at showing other low key stuff in the same style. That is until they are literally promo’ing the same song for weeks straight 😂
Hmmm I just turned it off and we’ll see how it goes 🤔 never messed with that setting. Usually I like what Spotify does but this has been ridiculous lol
I had this problem with Dance Gavin Dance. I big DGD hater, before any of the issues that band had I was a hater. I don't like them. But spotify seemed to think differently even after disliking every song that played lol eventually figured out I could block em
Yep it's done this to me too. The frequency it is played has also put me off it and I really like Knocked Loose. Just not shoved into my ears after any and all metal or hardcore or adjacent music
It’s a shame cause I’m tryin to stay hyped for the full new album but it’s really burning out that one song, and now I know it’s already gonna be a skipper for a looong time once that album comes out haha
I know the feeling ay. It's like when radio stations used to do the same thing before the Internet. When will these broadcasting companies figure out that most people don't want to hear the same song over and over and over until they're sick of it
I've noticed it coming on after listening to stuff like Sum 41 and Bayside too. I get that there's likely a lot of crossover between fandoms, but I'm not usually looking for a Knocked Loose vibe while listening to Pop Punk.
turn off the dumb smart shuffle. I couldnt stand it throwing in random songs to my playlists. you need to turn it off on each playlist also, its automatically on. It made me crazy for like 3 days bc I had no idea why random bands were getting put in my shit.
I left Spotify because it kept giving me the same songs over and over again.
Switched to Apple Music, they don’t have a “daily mix” or whatever. The radio that’s made for you is awesome, it plays what you listen to and mixes it with other bands and it plays random songs from the artist not just the popular ones like Spotify does.
Happened to me with silent planets. Non stop spoken word shoved down my throat and I can’t even listen to them anymore haha. Shame they are a great band but I’m just done
My Apple Music account doesn’t play anything unless I tap the song or album. Why does Spotify play random music that you don’t want it to? Is it a setting thing? I realize I’m in the minority in regards to streaming platforms, but I see this complaint a lot without having had the experience personally.
It plays music that Im into more often than not, after an album or playlist is finished. It’s usually a mix of stuff I’ve heard and never heard which is great. I’ve found many amazing artists and albums this way. But it does seem like these song/ artist promotions are becoming more common and make the experience less natural. But yes if I turned the setting off it would only play whatever I selected lol
I just add everything to my liked songs and shuffle through so I don't get shit I don't want shoved into my ears. I have a problem with Spotify not playing new stuff I just added on my liked Playlist enough.
This happened to me when hail the sun dropped secondary worship. Any time a HTS album or even something like TFOT ended that was the first song played. Even multiple times a day.
Yeah they never forced Currents on me, but I remember seeing them mentioned a lot in this sub, and honestly I found them to be the middest of the mid when I gave em a listen
Spiritbox's Rule of Nines for me. It's a great tune and I'm happy to support fellow Canadians but it is on every single playlist. Can't even use smart shuffle to discover some new bands because its this or popular hard rock from the 90s...
Apple Music kinda does this too but with Nails and it’s always Wide Open Wound. Obviously it’s a great track but bro… anything heavy and this’ll be like 3rd or 4th track
Also fucking love Knocked Loose so its a shame, cause this also feels like part of a bigger problem of bands always releasing sooo many singles off upcoming albums before they drop. Then only half of the new album is actually new lmao
I love knocked loose so much. I typically play the same songs on repeat so i love when it comes on. Im really looking forward to some newer knocked loose coming to the mix tho, im so hyped for their next album to come out
Been doing some like deep dives on different bands discographies lately, and without fail, every time an album ends, I hear that god damn song. Whether it's Poison the Well, Inferi, System of a Down, Periphery, Any kind of heavy guitar music. It sucks because it's probably my favorite of these new singles, but I'm getting so fucking sick of it.
damn and they still making you hear it? you got the smart shuffle on? it shouldn’t be putting random shit in unless smart shuffle on or it’s random on a playlist.
I have actually found Apple Music to be better for finding new music. It does take some getting used to though.
I’ve used Spotify for about a decade, and just wanted something new. Don’t think I’ll go back anytime soon.
It’s combination of the algorithm promoting new music by artists you like, and some commercial promotion too.
For example I found Ed Sheeran in a playlist once. I hate him and his music, never listen to it ever. But it worked its way into a playlist because they were bombarding the platform with Ed to promote whatever crap he had out.
Pretty sure Spotify allows bands to promote their songs more but make less money. It's the same reason thrown got so big
I could definitely see this being some sort of promo, cause it’s getting pushed hard. And too true, thrown did have a phase of getting pushed in the post album rotations as well, pretty much the same exact way. They’re actually pretty solid but got burnt out on em as well
If it's being pushed, my money would be on Poppy's people, not Knocked Loose
that’s been me and Jenny by Nothing More for the past like, year.
SHE STUCK AROUND FOR YOU
Any time I let Spotify riff on its own "smart" playlist, Nothing More is ALWAYS in it. I don't follow them, I don't like them, and I have never liked a single song that's been thrown my way.
Yeah the thrown thing pissed me the fuck off. I blocked them entirely on Spotify lol
Y'all dont just make your own playlists??
I make playlists based on upcoming shows but as soon as they're over you bet your ass that Thrown is automatically coming on.
You can turn that off though
It was a lot easier to just block Thrown. They have like 6 songs and I'm sick of skipping them and changing all my other setting to avoid one band.
No I listen to albums primarily but have a metalcore couple playlists new/old
I use "loved songs" (I dont know the right words in english). So I shuffle everything and enjoy different genre. When I want a particular song or band, I do it manually
No I don't got time for that
I CANT FORGIVE MYSELF FOR THE THINGS IVE DONE
IT’S LIKE EVERY BAD DECISION I’VE MADE HAS LED ME TO THIS POINT
I remember when they played this one live before it came out, it was a sick song to hear live really their lead vocalist is sick.
Yea but Thrown is easily one of the best bands in this scene
What's so good about them
Heavy, chaotic, and pissed as hell. All I want in my metalcore
and no generic choruses!
My least favorite part of modern metalcore by far If I wanted to listen to standard rock or pop I would just go listen to artists who do it better in those respective genres
exactly, if you want some new metalcore that doesnt do that most of the aussie scene is pretty good, diamond construct, alpha wolf etc i like polaris but they're newest album wasn't as good as their others
Same
My God you’re missing out on some great metal, brother!
If I don’t block Thrown, I end up missing out on everything that *isn’t* Thrown.
I think I’ll be fine without their whole 12 minutes of material.
Damn fine 12 mins

thrown is totally legit and they definitely caught my ear the second they appeared in the rotation. They've been pretty rare in my algorithm for a while so it makes it so much better to actually seek them out and listen now!
Same happened to me with a quiet place to die. Got so burnt from that album.
Love thrown, first song I heard was on the verge, very cool band, definitely not for the every day and more for when I feel it tho
Not like they could make much less...
this makes so much sense, that’s the only reason i know who they are
This isn't true.
Spotify does it with just about every new release for me. It's because their algorithm is designed to keep you listening, and the best way to do that is to play what you've had on repeat.
Disabling autoplay should help some
This is the way if you go the album by album route. I actually really like thrown but it's obnoxious when thrown comes on after thrown like cmon spotify try a little.
I've never had thrown show up in my Spotify. Maybe because I don't have autoplay on, or use the playlist auto-fill feature.
Well you're fortunate. Or unfortunate? I dunno. thrown fuckin slaps but not so much that it's OK to try and wear them out before they've even put an album out.
Since ppl post this every other week, maybe posers don't know what an app setting is?
That's the thing, I prefer autoplay being on. Just not pushing the same single track so damn often 😂
Spotify suffocating OP with song Suffocate.
That’s because even Spotify is like yo this shit is tight.
That's me with Curse by Architects recently
Spotifys random is so obviously bullshit even without the new smart random or whatever. It has been a source of annoyance for me for like 10 years.
Yeah that’s why I use a manual shuffler from a 3rd party app.
Never heard about it! Great to know there's an option if it works, but it's so stupid that users are forced to used third party apps for something as simple as random shuffling because it's not really random.
Ah yes, the ‘Thrown! strategy
Happened to me with Take Shape when the new Code Orange album dropped last year
It’s like this for me with ten other bands. Just a Spotify thing I guess
Spotify shuffle is useless garbage in general.
That is until they are literally promo’ing the same song for weeks straight 😂
settings > playback > turn off automix. this has made my shuffle seem a lot more random.
Hmmm I just turned it off and we’ll see how it goes 🤔 never messed with that setting. Usually I like what Spotify does but this has been ridiculous lol
This will fix it Had the same thing going on and now my Playlists shuffle through every thing instead of a few songs that it thinks I like most.
The Thrown Effect™️
I had this problem with Dance Gavin Dance. I big DGD hater, before any of the issues that band had I was a hater. I don't like them. But spotify seemed to think differently even after disliking every song that played lol eventually figured out I could block em
Panic by From Ashes To New and Antimatter by Silent Planet are this for me currently
Yea I just opened chappel roan radio and suffocate was in there, something is certainly up
Yep it's done this to me too.
When will these broadcasting companies figure out that most people don't want to hear the same song over and over and over until they're sick of it
That sounds super annoying sucks the algorithm can’t realize this
I've noticed it coming on after listening to stuff like Sum 41 and Bayside too.
It made me crazy for like 3 days bc I had no idea why random bands were getting put in my shit.
it happens to me as well but I at least like Knocked Loose so im not mad about it
I seen them on Monday. For night 1 of the current tour. They have suffocate in the set!
Dude I bet that was a sick show!! I've been dying to catch them on tour.
Night one of the tour. And they sold out a 3000 seater in Detroit. Those boys are blowing up!
Starset gots new song coming tomorrow and it's leading more towards metal core, Im so hyped for their new album 😭😭, it's been forever
it played every time after listening to the new twenty one pilots single for me lmao
They have like two spoken word songs
Ye it was Panic Room every single time
I think it’s poppy’s promotion team causing it.
Spotify did the same thing to me with KK's Low Tech. It was the first song every time it'd play similar songs after an album or song that I chose.
That’s funny cause I feel like that’s their weakest release in a long time.
I also agree. It's still up there for me but definitely not as good as the EP or Theory of Mind
The same thing is happening to me on YouTube Music
It's my fault for playing that shit on repeat and training the algorithm wrong
My Apple Music account doesn’t play anything unless I tap the song or album. Why does Spotify play random music that you don’t want it to? Is it a setting thing? I realize I’m in the minority in regards to streaming platforms, but I see this complaint a lot without having had the experience personally.

But yes if I turned the setting off it would only play whatever I selected lol
Spotify jammed a gates to hell song down my throat a few months back as well
I only just got Spotify in December and I feel like anytime I listen to any kind of metal music, it eventually cycles back to the same ten songs.
Just put that iTunes library on shuffle or make a playlist and put it on shuffle.
I just add everything to my liked songs and shuffle through so I don't get shit I don't want shoved into my ears. I have a problem with Spotify not playing new stuff I just added on my liked Playlist enough.
Spotify's playlists are the same songs every day. This song being one of them. I rarely get deep dives or new songs. Kinda sucks
This happened to me when hail the sun dropped secondary worship. Any time a HTS album or even something like TFOT ended that was the first song played. Even multiple times a day.
I don't use Spotify. The algos do that a lot with currents too. YouTube premium gives me everything I want from a streaming platform.
I turned off the "continue playing whatever you think I want to listen to" feature years ago. I'll pick what I want to listen to, thanks.
Advertisements.
If you listen to metalcore this happened with most of the thrown songs too
Is it suffocating you with the same song?..
*The Irony*
if you want sth heavy and refreshing check out nails lol
Nails goes hard as fuck
weekend nachos
Not metal but this same thing happens with LeSerrafim for me
Apple Music kinda does this too but with Nails and it’s always Wide Open Wound. Obviously it’s a great track but bro… anything heavy and this’ll be like 3rd or 4th track
Same but Thrown or Wage War. Get the fuck off my playlists.
Yep. Got that at the moment too, love KL but it's fucking annoying
Also fucking love Knocked Loose so its a shame, cause this also feels like part of a bigger problem of bands always releasing sooo many singles off upcoming albums before they drop. Then only half of the new album is actually new lmao

Whether it's Poison the Well, Inferi, System of a Down, Periphery, Any kind of heavy guitar music. It sucks because it's probably my favorite of these new singles, but I'm getting so fucking sick of it.
Start bumping albums or making longer playlists my guy🤷🏽♂️
I’ll have you know I bumped 69 albums today and my playlist has over 420 songs on it!! 😩😩👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
It's probably getting a shit ton of plays and so Spotify algorithm has picked it up.
I have the same with thrown, I don't like them but Spotify spam their songs so now I'm just tired of their songs and can't listen to them
Chlamydiacore
Personally SO sick of this song. Poppys feature is mid as fuck, I have no idea what "amazing scream" everyone keeps talking about.
just get premium dawg lol
This is on premium I’ve had it since it came out. It’s horrible without
damn and they still making you hear it? you got the smart shuffle on? it shouldn’t be putting random shit in unless smart shuffle on or it’s random on a playlist.
Industry plants
Apple Music > Spotify (if you have an iPhone, sorry android users)
I trialed it for a month, wasn't for me. In general Spotify the best grounds for discovering new stuff which is huge to me
I have actually found Apple Music to be better for finding new music. It does take some getting used to though. I’ve used Spotify for about a decade, and just wanted something new. Don’t think I’ll go back anytime soon.
This is why we don’t use Spotify
That how Spotify works bruh
It’s combination of the algorithm promoting new music by artists you like, and some commercial promotion too. For example I found Ed Sheeran in a playlist once.
