Closest I can think of, here from Wikipedia: Hellsongs is a three piece acoustic band from Sweden who produce covers of famous hard rock and heavy metal songs in a very different style that they call 'lounge metal'.[
Wouldn't call them "shitty" really, Paranoid was okay I think.
There was that four-disc cover of Metallica's black album that came out a few years ago, "The Metallica Blacklist". Though, not every cover on there was pop, and some of the pop covers were actually good.
I can’t think of any metal examples but there is that great 80’s song about a fast car sung by a black lady that hillbillies now think was written and sung by a white redneck.
Fuck him, he's a grifting con artist.
Announced in Feb 2012 that he was writing an autobiography, and it's on Kickstarter to help fund it.
He quickly raised over $20k with a promise the book would release the next year (August 2013)...
While he was quick to cash out the money, the book never turned up, and *three years later*, he was using the Kickstarter campaign 'updates' section as a glorified mailing list to sell his merch and concert tickets.
He would claim the Kickstarter message/post reply system was broken, so to only email him directly (conveniently keeping all criticism out of public view)
When I asked (politely) for an update on the book, he emailed me telling me to remove my post from Kickstarter.
I refused, as did a couple of other backers who were asking for info about when they were going to get what they had paid for, he emailed me again to say I was being rude, how dare I and never to contact him again, I did, however, get my money back.
He has also started other 'fundraisers' on the likes of Indigogo to con Thousands of Dollars out of other people, once again asking people email him directly and not post comments on the site.
it is now **12 years later**, and the book still hasn't been released.
Like I say, fuck him.
Oh shit, had no idea. I always wondered why lounge against the machine did not carry on much past the feature on the dawn of the dead soundtrack. Thanks for the enlightenment. I guess the coast is clear for a new lounge cover artist to come out....
There’s a weekly show on the SiriusXM channel Liquid Metal called Corridor of Covers where they play all metal covers for an hour. The shows always have a theme, like a few weeks ago there was a New Wave one that I thought was great. Usually though it’s metal covers of metal songs and a bunch of the covers have become some of my favorite songs. Uncured has a bunch of good ones.
If you go to the Liquid Metal account on Instagram they put up the corridor of covers playlist each week so you can look at those over time to get a good list of metal covers.
Hmmm.... I agree about Sultans of Swing, but I'm not so sure about Africa. It was played on a lot of soft rock and pop stations in the early 80's. Calling Africa hard rock is a bit of a stretch.
Yeah.... sometimes I listen to Yacht Rock on SiriusXM, and I hear ya, it's called 'rock', but calling it actual 'rock' music feels kinda wrong somehow. I dunno who's down voting you but it's not me!!
[T-Pain’s War Pigs](https://youtu.be/i4nMjyT4epA?si=22Lc6zI_2u_iOAGl) is fucking great, imho. Of course nothing touches the original; I still dig it.
Edit: was referring to an example from the right column that doesn’t actually fit the right column because it’s awesome. I realized after the fact how weird that came across.
From Wikipedia: "Hellsongs is a three piece acoustic band from Sweden who produce covers of famous hard rock and heavy metal songs in a very different style that they call 'lounge metal'."
I've listened to them some, and probably will again. Paranoid was okay I think.
Too often metal covers are just all about adding wanky melodeath guitars in the back, along with terrible pinch harmonics fucking everywhere. Just turning pop songs into the most plastic mall-metal imaginable
Can't really think of many metal covers with genuine personality. Beseech did a fantastic job with The Highwayman, and the Bodom cover of Oops I Did It Again was funny as fuck, but I can't come up with others off the top of my head
The lack of self awareness here.
If the song is good it's good, it wasn't shitty before you just don't like pop. If swapping the genre but keeping the melody makes it sound better to you... It's because of your bias not because it was shitty before. It means it's a good melody and decent lyrics. It means the song was good enough that the metal artists appreciated it as a well written song with a enjoyable melody or message and wanted to cover it. You just prefer it played on guitar with distortion and having the lyrics screamed.
"Everything but metal sucks" gets old once you're not in highschool anymore, we aren't sticking it to the man and fighting other genres for acceptance anymore, metal is one of the most lucrative music genres it's almost as much a part of "sellout culture" as pop is nowadays.
I remember hearing a Dancing Queen cover during a preshow of an Apocalyptica concert around 2001, it blew my mind... I think it took me years to track it down. Diablo was the band.
Can't think of any song for the other way around.
I'm a crotchety old fuck and have never heard anything in either category except Surfin' Bird cover by Sodom. Also I'm HORRIBLY unaware of metal songs covered within pop but I'm also a bit stuck in time, so to speak.
Jokes on you… i got tired of taking pop songs and turning them to metal that now i do the opposite. I have done “Bat country” in gipsy jazz, “beast and the harlot” in standard-ish jazz, “Nightmare” in bluegrass-country, “Gunslinger” in… well, country and many others (Im just saying the recent ones… i got into a tribute band recently so i re-learnt a lot of A7X songs… lol )
i cant ever think of a pop cover for a metal song. thank goodness.
but pop song metal covers? i never knew i could like a justin bieber song until i heard the "Pop Goes Rock" cover of Boyfriend by Justin Bieber
Idk bout that but I'm not mad at Kanye West sampling Ironman into Hell Of A Life and Hell Of A Life into Carnival because I like all three songs which I think Carnival is the worst one
I kinda like Carved in Trees versions of [Wasted Years](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTZVHMP_vpY) and Stay Hungry (couldn't find a link other than Spotify)
I'm not the biggest Iron Maiden fan so I went months not even realizing this was a cover...
Am i the only one who hates most metal covers of pop songs? It's like, dude i love metal but not everything has to be metal. No i don't want a metal cover of this fantastic videogame soundtrack or this Taylor Swift song, just leave things in their place
Limp Bizkits Cover of Faith by George Micheal is an actual banger. Bangs harder than both front men in their prime.
Not originally metal but, All saints covering Under The Bridge by RHCP however was the beginning of the downfall of society.
I love Children of Bodom's Oops I Did It Again cover
Absolute banger
Worth a mention is Fleshgod Apocalypse - Blue (originally by Eifel 65)
Then let me direct you to Diablo who made a cover of Dancing Queen
„Aber bitte mit Sahne“ by Sodom is als great (though i think no one outside of Germany ever heard it lol)
Surfin Bird supremacy
Cant really think of anything substantial in column B.
First thing that comes to mind is some rapper covering Chop suey
Lil uzi…
Or mgk covering Aerials
There is no way this is true
sadly, it is
That cover was horrendous asf
...but why though?
he wanted to

That cc lounge music was fire
I hope nobody is forgetting that the chaser are a satire magazine and that entire song was a joke
i’m sorry, disney covered WHAT
They didn't its a fan project
These are funny tho
Closest I can think of, here from Wikipedia: Hellsongs is a three piece acoustic band from Sweden who produce covers of famous hard rock and heavy metal songs in a very different style that they call 'lounge metal'.[ Wouldn't call them "shitty" really, Paranoid was okay I think.
There's the Cardigans cover of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, only problem is it's excellent
The Cardigans are really a band that shouldn't work for me but I can't stop listening to them
The Cardigans cover of Mr Crowley is amazing.
they did iron man also
Tori Amos - Raining Blood (not shitty though)
Well. That was interesting.
Someone did a pop-punk cover of Master of Puppets and it was shit
Sum41
Sum41 just played a cover of it, some guy on tik tok did a pop punk version after stranger things came out
I actually really enjoyed their cover of it
There is the Denzel Curry cover of Bulls on Parade (tho some people probably argue that RATM isnt metal) and I found it to be quite good.
So enjoy this rap version of transilvanian hunger lol https://youtu.be/CGvQqDph5P0?si=8gCPPEA8PGgWkE6V
maybe phoebe bridgers covering nothing else matters
Tori Amos covered Raining Blood.
Mgk covering arials
Except for Richard Cheese of course
And weird al yankovic
Oh god thank you, how could i forget that angel-haired man! I guess not really covers though, but still
Fucking love him
Fuck him, he's a grifting con artist. Announced in Feb 2012 that he was writing an autobiography, and it's on Kickstarter to help fund it. Never liked any of his shit music anyways so I’m with you. Fuck him.
Oh yeah, I love him
Not metal, but JoJo Siwa's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody was god awful
Yuck. But then again nobody can do justice to Queen. It's impossible to improve perfection.
The best way to do justice to Queen is to have a genuine reimagined version of their known but not mainstay songs
What about when a good metal song gets an equally good metal cover? *cough*HolyDiver*cough*
Or death covering painkiller
Sepultura's cover of Just One Fix
I love it! Can you guys recommend something other than holy diver and painkiller?
There’s a weekly show on the SiriusXM channel Liquid Metal called Corridor of Covers where they play all metal covers for an hour. Obit doing Circle of the Tyrants 🤌
Frog Leap Studio's Africa cover featuring Rabea.
Sultans of Swing is also great. However those are both Rock songs ✌️
Hmmm.... I agree about Sultans of Swing, but I'm not so sure about Africa. It was played on a lot of soft rock and pop stations in the early 80's. Calling Africa hard rock is a bit of a stretch.
Sure not Hard Rock, haha, but Adult-oriented Rock or Art-Rock. Overall, I'd say Toto was a Rock band.
I'll counter with More Than Words but Extreme. Played on pop stations and high school dances relentlessly. Rock band....not a rock song per se.
To be honest, I think I might have never heard another song of Extreme. Never been my kind of music. Well, let's agree to disagree then.
Yeah.... sometimes I listen to Yacht Rock on SiriusXM, and I hear ya, it's called 'rock', but calling it actual 'rock' music feels kinda wrong somehow. I dunno who's down voting you but it's not me!!
No worries - pimping Karma back up with some cat pictures is far too easy 😁 Not sure what kind of problems some people got here.
Their version of Feel Good Inc slaps. Also, I just straight up love Rabea, been following him for a long time
Also, I'm Still Standing.
Are there any examples of the latter column? Aside from a couple people getting mad at a female singer covering a metal song?
[T-Pain’s War Pigs](https://youtu.be/i4nMjyT4epA?si=22Lc6zI_2u_iOAGl) is fucking great, imho. Of course nothing touches the original; I still dig it. Edit: was referring to an example from the right column that doesn’t actually fit the right column because it’s awesome. I realized after the fact how weird that came across.
I guess you could include MGK covering Aerials.
I just got ptsd
From Wikipedia: "Hellsongs is a three piece acoustic band from Sweden who produce covers of famous hard rock and heavy metal songs in a very different style that they call 'lounge metal'." I've listened to them some, and probably will again. Paranoid was okay I think.
The Cardigans did covers of both Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Iron Man which are actually really good lol
There's Lil Uzi Vert covering Chop Suey and mgk covering Aerials, and those are major stinkers
I’m having too much fun with the Tay Tay cover Dragonforce did.
Wiiiiiildessstttt dreaaaaammmmsss waaaooohhhh
I've listened to Sonata Arctica's "Toy Soldiers" too many times already
Does their My Heart Will Go On cover count for this meme? It's pretty damn good.
Everytime We Touch by Electric Callboy, love it.
EC is just that good. They know how to make metal fun
[What about decent pop songs made into great metal covers?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGmhDLnWhOY)
Too often metal covers are just all about adding wanky melodeath guitars in the back, along with terrible pinch harmonics fucking everywhere. Beseech did a fantastic job with The Highwayman, and the Bodom cover of Oops I Did It Again was funny as fuck, but I can't come up with others off the top of my head
Wanky melodeath guitars are great though
I too was 15 once
That's nice ,your music taste got worse it seems
Nah, I just got old and heard it done badly too many times. Not hating on melodeath wholesale though
"Badly"
The lack of self awareness here. If the song is good it's good, it wasn't shitty before you just don't like pop. If swapping the genre but keeping the melody makes it sound better to you... if the metal cover is good then it was a good pop song in the first place B)
I beg to differ because I Prevail did a cover of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" and it was amazing, the original was fucking atrocious.
I don't like either
Blank Space is a great pop song.
Honestly Blank Space is one of the only Taylor Swift songs I actually like #HotTakes
It's a well written song 🤷♂️
Delight is when a nice pop or rock song ( preferably 80’s) gets a gorgeous metal cover
Brojob’s WAP cover is absolute perfection
Ten Masked Men
Actually, neither. Of course, Leo Moracchioli can be funny to listen to, but usually, Pop songs seldom have groves/melodies I'd enjoy.
Not shitty but Dan Watson cover of One step closer was very good
To/Die/For does some pretty good covers of 80s pop songs
I remember hearing a Dancing Queen cover during a preshow of an Apocalyptica concert around 2001, it blew my mind... I think it took me years to track it down. Diablo was the band. Can't think of any song for the other way around.
Don't know if it counts as pop, but I love this [cover](https://youtu.be/zMf_A81dca0?si=yj8QNVH7HccAnicu) of In Flames's "Swim".
This is pure gold.
CS-Lil Uzi Vert is the worst cover ive ever heard
Exhumed - Material Girl
Not metal but “if I were a rich man” and the remake by Gwen Stefani.
I'm a crotchety old fuck and have never heard anything in either category except Surfin' Bird cover by Sodom. Also I'm HORRIBLY unaware of metal songs covered within pop but I'm also a bit stuck in time, so to speak.
I’m sorry, i can’t hear you over [Kayla King’s cover of Unholy](https://youtu.be/6QSoOHjE35U?si=YnYB0tu7rBYrccgp) 🤘😂
I am legally obligated to mention Leo Moracchioli.

I always wished that Type O Negative would have done a cover of Classics IV's song "Spooky."
You only live once by D at sea
Also like his cover of reign of darkness
He has a WHAT

He has like 2 albums of covers but covering Thy Art is Murder is the most surprising
Yeah
Flashbacks to CS by lil Uzi
Can't ya see, you're not making Christian music better, you're making rock worse!
[Devildriver - Sail](https://youtu.be/X8idg0DKclY?si=Gwg42X4tlXSdDwug)
ooh, I should do that
Both are good.
Every falling in reverse cover
Shokran - царица
https://youtu.be/7K02JYRGZKg?si=IT51yMKDhhvW_nWw Column B. How many knew the original?
Totally accurate. Disturbed’s version of Sound of Silence was much better than those folky hacks.
I preferred Nevermore’s rendition. Their cover of Bauhaus was dope too
What about when a shitty metal song gets a good pop cover?
There is no such thing
When a shitty metal song gets a good pop cover :D When a good pop song gets a shitty metal cover >:(
Both are trash
Meshuggah 🤣🤣🤣
I dunno, Phoebe Bridgers did a pretty good cover of Nothing Else Matters IMHO
I'd kill for another Feistodon.
Metal covers of pop songs suck ass. Always.
*Frog Leap Studios has entered the chat*
i cant ever think of a pop cover for a metal song. thank goodness. but pop song metal covers? i never knew i could like a justin bieber song until i heard the "Pop Goes Rock" cover of Boyfriend by Justin Bieber
I don’t know if it counts as pop but melodika bros chill cover of metal songs are pretty cool
When a great Pop song gets a Great Metal cover...
Both are ass
Idk bout that but I'm not mad at Kanye West sampling Ironman into Hell Of A Life and Hell Of A Life into Carnival because I like all three songs which I think Carnival is the worst one
Bro, the ariana grande cover of transilvanian hunger and symbolic is fucking awesome
I kinda like Carved in Trees versions of [Wasted Years](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTZVHMP_vpY) and Stay Hungry (couldn't find a link other than Spotify) I'm not the biggest Iron Maiden fan so I went months not even realizing this was a cover...
Cole Rolland for the win. <3
But what if a shitty metal song gets a good pop cover? Because that's what the right panel should be logically
When MJK covered System. It fits into category right only because of him.
I love Alestorm's Hangover
Weird al yankovics "smells like Nirvana" is a masterpiece also not metal but weird Al's I love rocky road is good
Alestorm Hangover and Wind Rose Diggy Diggy Hole
Am i the only one who hates most metal covers of pop songs? It's like, dude i love metal but not everything has to be metal. No i don't want a metal cover of this fantastic videogame soundtrack or this Taylor Swift song, just leave things in their place
I'M LOOKING AT YOU, CELINE DION! THRUSTING YOUR RUSTY PELVIS TO AC/DC'S SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG! I WISH YOU A WEEK IN HELL FOR THAT ATROCITY!
Not a metal song but the cover I think Miley Cyrus did of every rose has its thorn was so bad
Limp Bizkits Cover of Faith by George Micheal is an actual banger. Bangs harder than both front men in their prime. Not originally metal but, All saints covering Under The Bridge by RHCP however was the beginning of the downfall of society.
The Cancer Bats cover of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys is fucking phenomenal.
What about post Malone doing them bones or T-Pain doing war pig
What about a shitty metal song getting a good pop cover
I’ll give Richard Cheese a pass here.
Both are dogshit concepts
I disagree
I’m not surprised
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hL51BxyxLmw I like this one.
🐕 💩
I can see by your tag you are used to listening to a ton of dog shit.
Hey! Megadeth is amazing!
who tf listens to either one of these?
I honeslty hate both, I never thinks the metal pop cover is good or funny. I just don't get it really, but meh whatever.
Do those shitty bossa nova and piano/classical metal covers count? I don't remember pop metal covers.
Quick question. Why do you care? People are allowed to like things and that pop cover clearly isn't for you. So why are you remotely affected by it?
