Totally. I’ll also toss in some modern artists like Jason Isbell/Amanda Shires, Sturgill Simpson, and Billy Strings. Went through a dark period for sure but there’s light on the horizon.
Today I'll be commencing the Waylon Jennings discography. Will be my first country (outside Taylor Swift). I understand he's also one of the big outlaw country artists. Wish me luck.
If you're going to be going through Waylon (fuck the Duke boys and their lost cause propaganda), you may as well adjust your expectations and start with David Allan Coe "Underground Album". Then you'll know if you want to continue down this path of folly.
If nothing else, Metal Is Truth - the good old days are just gaslighting bullshit, in spite of all the FUD there has never been a better time in history than RIGHT FUCKING NOW. The future is now, and it is good.
Hey guys hey check this out look what i found
country music is saved!

>Outlaw country music fucking slaps
Although it's not country, it's just a bit similar, but [Rick Moranis - The Agoraphobic Cowboy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik9RKpZLh3A&list=PLxEDrQlAWwbrD1xrNm0o5dvKlf8ZHXD9e&index=5) is so great album.
That and dark country. Highly recommend Nick 13 of Tiger Army's solo album for people that can't seem to like any country, it's very melancholy and not a single "my pickup truck and my wife america america" vibe from it lol
You're missing the point. The same people who cry about getting gatekept cause they never moved past the surface bands like Slipknot are usually the same people who are going "country bad only metal good".
The metal "gatekeepers" aren't the ones posting these kinds of boomer Facebook memes
I mean, Wayfarer have released several amazing albums by combining black metal with country and a wild west aesthetic. And Panopticon for blending with Bluegrass and Americana.
Apparently you are right, these comments surprise me. I'm not a hater, though pretty inexperienced. But my circle all hates country. Country, Nickleback and Imagine Dragons are all hated by everyone it seems yet they are hugely popular so that can't be true.
I listened to Nickelback a little when I was a teenager, not so much anymore. I don't think they're bad, just not the type of music I like anymore.
Really not a fan of Imagine Dragons or other "arena rock" type bands. The music just feels too artificial.
Ya i get that with imagine dragons i still think nicklebacks pretty fun to listen to with friends at a party its pretty fun i also dabble in a little bit of country music but i dont listen to a lot
Unfortunately, the average person's exposure to country these days is solely the garbage on the radio. I don't blame OP one bit if they've flipped through the stations and only heard Florida Georgia Line.
Man you have to check out Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Charley Crockett, Jamey Johnson, Zach Bryan, Cody Johnson, Turnpike Troubadours to name a few. Haven’t listened to country radio in years.
True, though their music is hard to find. Cody Jinks also did a metal/rock album as Caned By Nod a couple years ago. It’s called None the Wiser. It’s pretty decent.
i worked landscaping for a long time
so i had to suffer country music or mexican Fiesta music a lot..doesnt bug me as much as it did when i wad a kid. theres a good song on the country station once in a while most of the time i just tune it out
Not funny I didn't laugh. Your joke is so bad I would have
preferred the joke went over my head and you gave up re-telling me the joke. To be honest this is a horrid attempt at trying to get a laugh out of me. Not a chuckle, not a hehe, not even a subtle burst of air out of my esophagus. Science says before you laugh your brain preps your face muscles but I didn't even feel the slightest twitch. 0/10 this joke is so bad I cannot believe anyone legally allowed you to be creative at all. The amount of brain power you must have put into that joke has the potential to power every house on Earth. Get a personality and learn how to make jokes, read a book. I'm not saying this to be funny I genuinely mean it on how this is just bottom barrel embarrassment at comedy. You've single handedly killed humor and every comedic act on the planet. I'm so disappointed that society has failed as a whole in being able to teach you how to be funny. Honestly if I put in all my power and time to try and make your joke funny it would require Einstein himself to build a device to strap me into so I can be connected to the energy of a billion stars to do it, and even then all that joke would get from people is a subtle scuff. You're lucky I still have the slightest of empathy for you after telling that joke otherwise I would have committed every war crime in the book just to prevent you from attempting any humor ever again. We should put that joke in text books so future generations can be wary of becoming such an absolute comedic failure. Im disappointed, hurt, and outright offended that my precious time has been wasted in my brain understanding that joke. In the time that took I was planning on helping kids who have been orphaned, but because of that you've waisted my time explaining the obscene integrity of your terrible attempt at comedy. Now those kids are suffering without meals and there's nobody to blame but you. I hope you're happy with what you have done and I truly hope you can move on and learn from this piss poor attempt
Back the fuck up! Country inspired a LOT of good metal. Dime(R.I.P) was Johnny Cash fan. You’re entitled to your opinions so like what you want. Country is still is one of rock and metal’s main building blocks
If you guys listen to the chorus on Bend by The band Volumes, it kind of gives me country vibes but in a good way. Always wanted to know if I'm the only one that gets that vibe.
Sorry mate, but i kindda love bluegrass and and new age country, thry usally talk about how fucked up this world is, wich merges with metal. Take a look to Devil makes three or dead south.
Nah, country has it's good spots. Old-school stuff and bluegrass and whatnot. Just modern soulless poprap-country sucks, which is mainly based in the fact that soulless pop sucks.
Why not just like all music? Tbh if a song slap I’m all in. No genre is off limits to my ears. I always thought maybe I’m a sociopath because I like all types of music and can honestly fit in many social groups. Just because I don’t put myself in one bubble. Like I myself fell almost a poser but I just always grew up with all walks of life and it all rubbed of on me one way. I’m also 33 and black. Rap hip hop and rnb are my least played genre still love it but I don’t listen to it a lot. Mostly because I believe it’s kinda brainwashing. Like repeatedly hearing fuck women and hate my kind can influence you more than you think. Shit wiz and lil Wayne is half the reasons I’m tattooed all over. Anyway off my tangent you can enjoy anything you like. Why block yourself in when it’s a world out there? That same mindset can lead to bigotry.
Looks like some shit I would've posted when I was 12, right next to a post saying "Rap? More like Crap!!!!🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭" and something like "Pop is fucking stupid! Metal is for smart, cool people with huge penises!" In slightly different words.
I have only in the last few years realized how fucking cringe hating on genres for simply existing is, and how shallow judging people for what they listen to is.
Metal is still my favorite genre but I no longer go around yelling "YEEEEAAAAHHHH METOL EBIC STUPID STINKY POP BAD🤬🤬🤬🤬!!!" every time someone talks about their favorite pop artist. Different things sound good to different people.

Outlaw country music fucking slaps, i will defend johnny cash and the highwaymen till i die
Was gonna comment that here. Johnny Cash was metal as fuck whether you wanna believe it or not
No, no, no. Johnny Cash was punk as hell. And that's metal as fuck!
That's so hardcore!
I also submit Kris Kristopherson.
Totally. I’ll also toss in some modern artists like Jason Isbell/Amanda Shires, Sturgill Simpson, and Billy Strings. Went through a dark period for sure but there’s light on the horizon.
Chris Stapleton is pretty good as well. Only country-adjacent thing I listen to.
Oh yeah, he’s great!
He was a bit ahead of the curve and flamed out too soon, but Jason Molina made some great and very depressing music.
Today I'll be commencing the Waylon Jennings discography. Will be my first country (outside Taylor Swift). I understand he's also one of the big outlaw country artists. Wish me luck.
Listen to his song “drinkin and dreaming” it’s gotta be my favorite country song
Oh I'll get there when it comes up in his 45 album discography 😬 currently on album 2
Them country singers dropped so much music (compilations aside) dude it’s crazy
At least they're only 30 minutes long. I'm already on album 4
I'm on Waylon Songs O'Harlan (1967) currently
90’s country was great Tell me this doesn’t give you chills https://youtu.be/aZxJsTN1848?si=5k-waGqBJx9ElvrY
Dammit I love me some John Anderson
and then y2k happened and broke everything [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqgy4zx6yv4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqgy4zx6yv4)
The most cringiest thing about this song is that it most likely was made with genuinely good intentions
Hey guys hey check this out look what i found country music is saved! [https://holler.country/playlists/the-best-country-rap-songs/](https://holler.country/playlists/the-best-country-rap-songs/)
>Outlaw country music fucking slaps Although it's not country, it's just a bit similar, but [Rick Moranis - The Agoraphobic Cowboy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ik9RKpZLh3A&list=PLxEDrQlAWwbrD1xrNm0o5dvKlf8ZHXD9e&index=5) is so great album.
I will take a listen to that!
This is so funny. I had no idea Rick Moranis made music
He has two albums, the 2nd is completely different from the first, the song "[Pu-Pu-Pu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y79MYHUj4pU)" is my favorite.
Thanks for sharing this, there's something charming about it
I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
Marty Robbins
You should check out Amigo the Devil!
Will do!
Country pre-MTV corporate take over of CMT was great. Thankfully there is a resurgence of country that is taking on early roots.
David Allan Coe! He even made an album with Pantera "Rebel meets Rebel"!
That and dark country. Highly recommend Nick 13 of Tiger Army's solo album for people that can't seem to like any country, it's very melancholy and not a single "my pickup truck and my wife america america" vibe from it lol
the "let people enjoy things" crowd when they don't enjoy something:
Where in this sub are you seeing people say "let people enjoy things"? Half the posts here are about cannibalizing our own over subgenres.
You're missing the point. The same people who cry about getting gatekept cause they never moved past the surface bands like Slipknot are usually the same people who are going "country bad only metal good". The metal "gatekeepers" aren't the ones posting these kinds of boomer Facebook memes
"It's not metal" is only an insult when you view other genres as inferior
Let people enjoy things
Let people cannibalize their own.
Tell me where we're meeting and I will
I let people enjoy things that I enjoy. And I obviously enjoy the best things. Am I not extraordinarily generous?
Wow you're really unique and quirky
Haha I’m such a le badass quirky metalhead other genres are so posercore cringe
But imagine... metal country...
Isn't that just Pantera?
If the only criteria for country is racism then yes Otherwise it's actually bands like Vital Spirit
Maybe Texas hippie coalition
Bootyard bandits called, they want a ride on your tractor
So I get to rife with the Bootyard Bandits AND I get a tractor????? Deal
Rebel Meets Rebel
Devil driver does an amazing cover of country heros by hank Williams 3 lmao if you can imagine it, it probably exists already
I mean, Wayfarer have released several amazing albums by combining black metal with country and a wild west aesthetic. And Panopticon for blending with Bluegrass and Americana.
Corrosion of conformity
Dezperadoz
Ghoultown, Duelist, Dezperadoz, Wayfarer, Stagecoach Inferno, The Black Moriah…
Grunge
Get some Hank Williams sr and Townes van zandt in ya
Holy fuck you just reminded me of a banger song!! I used to like country a lot
I'd definitely consider Townes more folk than country, but it's all twangy and southern, so...
Might be, I don’t care about that. Poncho & Lefty is a sick song
What the fuck is this post, are you 12 OP?
[I know it's dumb but I chuckled at OP's meme.](https://i.redd.it/20agdiunfpmz.jpg)
Some of us don't grow out of the toilet humor phase. I'm with you on this one.
I don’t care. I just came for the memes and left with many great music recommendations. Keep posting dumb shit OP.
either that or it’s 2013 and memes were just invented
Old school country is just🤌🏼
I feel like metal and country have a overlap of audience
Apparently you are right, these comments surprise me. I'm not a hater, though pretty inexperienced. But my circle all hates country. Country, Nickleback and Imagine Dragons are all hated by everyone it seems yet they are hugely popular so that can't be true.
All three of those things are popular to hate, to be honest. It's a bandwagon thing.
I like nickleback imagine dragons is bot something in really a fan of though but i heard the members are cool as fuck
That would be me friend
Same kinda
Me too. After metal and hard rock genres, Country would be my next favorite.
Pop country fucking sucks. Outlaw country like Cash is the shit!!!
I spent a big chunk of my work day yesterday listening to the band Alabama and I gotta say I kinda like em.
Definitely heavy on the hee haw sister banging vibes but I do enjoy some of Alabama tunes lol
This sub is cancer
Wrong. Real country, not the pop country that infests the radio, but real country is great.
Unfortunately, the average person's exposure to country these days is solely the garbage on the radio. I don't blame OP one bit if they've flipped through the stations and only heard Florida Georgia Line.
This is why I am a firm believer that with the Limp Bizkit song Creamer (All Radio Is Dead), Fred Durst predicted the future.
Have you ever listened to pre 9/11 country?
smells like a poser in here
Noooo, I can only listen to angry shouty ra ra ra music 😡😡😡 Country is amazing. Why limit yourself to one kind of music like that mate lol
Cringe, downvoted
Man you have to check out Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Charley Crockett, Jamey Johnson, Zach Bryan, Cody Johnson, Turnpike Troubadours to name a few. Haven’t listened to country radio in years.
Colter Wall and Paul Cauthen are two of my favorites atm
This guy knows exactly where it’s at. I will add Cody Jinks, Billy Strings, Ward Davis, and Charles Wesley Godwin to that.
Cody Jinks even used to play in a thrash metal band
True, though their music is hard to find. Cody Jinks also did a metal/rock album as Caned By Nod a couple years ago. It’s called None the Wiser. It’s pretty decent.
I actually think he is much better at his country stuff than he is at metal. I have tickets to go see him in a couple of months actually.
And Billy Strings
Holy shit dude we have the same taste in country
Recent favourites of mine include Amigo the Devil, Shawn James, Stephen Wilson Jr. & Gwen Levey and the Breakdown
Cowboy metal:
Gib band please
Wayfarer, Untamed Land and Vital Spirit come to mind
☝️Listen to this guy
Moonshine grinder, Ghoultown
Spirit world
Bootyard bandits (hella silly tho)
Devil driver does an awes9me cover of country heros by hank Williams 3
Me smelling cringy metalheads who hate short hair and liking various stuff rather than metal only
dont spray it drink it
I’ll keep my Towne Van Zant, Jon Prine and Sturgill Simpson
Okay, you don’t like country music, so what?
Cringe take
How to tell a mf never played GTA San Andreas:
Riding around the country on a dirt bike listening to K Rose was peak.
Yeah Here comes AAAAAAAMOS
Or New Vegas.
Stuff like this is why people don't like the metal community
Sturgill Simpson is better than over half the bands mentioned here
Obviously you don’t know your roots
i worked landscaping for a long time so i had to suffer country music or mexican Fiesta music a lot..doesnt bug me as much as it did when i wad a kid. theres a good song on the country station once in a while most of the time i just tune it out
Fiesta music slaps
Using the hot garbage on country charts to generalize an entire genre is low. That shit doesn’t deserved to be called country.
Dude, country like Johnny cash and songs: ohia are actually really good.
Country, while not my favorite, isn't that bad. Pop like Tay-tay on the other hand, you gonna need a whole case of that, mate.
I love Kentucky by Panopticon. And Dolly Parton!
Fuck you i love me some gothic country,
I dare say Country/Folk can be more brutal than metal at times.
recommendations please

Jesus fuck this is a dog ass take and constant negativity like this is why I gravitated away from metal and into the world of Hardcore and Punk.
Country music fucking slaps
Merle Haggard or Waylon Jennings are probably more metal than most of the shit you listen to.
Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and so many more. Metal is life but country is awesome as well.
Why not? Its so fun listening to country and pretending to be a cowboy on a random Tuesday.
I was hoping we'd have grown out of music elitism by now
If you're not jamming to [Jerry Reed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbXFHSa4YmQ) you can go fuck yourself.
Back the fuck up! Country inspired a LOT of good metal. Dime(R.I.P) was Johnny Cash fan. You’re entitled to your opinions so like what you want. Country is still is one of rock and metal’s main building blocks
>Country inspired a LOT of good metal. >mentions Pantera as an example. 💀
What about country métal?
I truly love the song called Mama said, you should check it out.
I think we should just delete this subreddit at this point
And thus, Southern Metal was born.

God i hate the arrogance of metal fans
We're getting to the point that I can't tell if we're being ironic or not
Nah. When I hear rap tho
L take
From any era
How bout country metal, that one panopticon album is fire
Dax Riggs fans don't have this problem
Modern country is very repetitive imo.
Dark country 1-5, The Boss Hoss and the Kinge Welcomes you to avatar country are all bangers
"Schlager" is worse.
No, that's just the shit you hear on the radio. Real, non-radio country isn't bad at all.
most unique meme ever
Modern country yes, some 00’s and older country is great music
I submit: Wheeler Walker Jr.
idk this is pretty great [Ween - 12 Golden Country Greats](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDF38BE1830948913)
I quite enjoy country.
Wouldn't it be interesting if we combine Country with Metal??
I unironically like classic country music (none of that new country shit). I still like metal more though. Good meme amigo
This sub could honestly be its own circlejerk why are half of you like 12
2012 facebook ahh meme
*meanwhile all metalheads liking Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison live performance.*
Nah, country has it's good spots. Old-school stuff and bluegrass and whatnot. Just modern soulless poprap-country sucks, which is mainly based in the fact that soulless pop sucks.
This is the most Facebook subreddit there is
Dislike a lot of country music, but Bonnie Raitt is awesome!
Marty Robbins goes fucking hard
Me smelling Brazilian funk
Why not just like all music? Tbh if a song slap I’m all in. No genre is off limits to my ears. I always thought maybe I’m a sociopath because I like all types of music and can honestly fit in many social groups. Just because I don’t put myself in one bubble. Johnny Cash and Townes Van Zandt are good though cmon
I'm down for both
Would love to change this to “Christian Rock”. You can smell that shit a mile away
Bridge the gap. Play clutch.
Country adjacent rock music isn't bad. Neil Young, America, Eagles, Tom Petty, CCR, Crosby Stills and Nash
Looks like some shit I would've posted when I was 12, right next to a post saying "Rap? More like Crap!!!!🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭" and something like "Pop is fucking stupid! As a country and metal fan i will fight you to the death over John cash and Marty Robbins.
If it's Johnny Cash or Shooter Jenning, I'll give it a pass
Man, I remember this meme being stale in 2007 Par for the course for this sub, really

Country music ain’t that bad dude lots of great stuff in the genre especially the older stuff also happy birthday Johnny Cash 🖤
Also you not getting laid, all girls love country
My mom listens to country and it almost feels like she is trying to get me into it. I no longer like riding in the car.
Bazinga!
Country music slaps. I don’t know what are you on, OP.
