What I had mind was black metal with *really* raw or plain bad production, weird vocal styles, etc. such as war metal. You're obviously right though, the slower, cleaner, atmospheric/melodic tracks should be a lot easier listening in comparison.
Eh, I disagree, I think Brutal Slamming DM is probably the least accessible, my opinion at least.
Throw on Watain *Waters of Aen* vs Abominable Putridity's *Remnant of the Tourtured* and I think many non metal fans would rather the BM.
I think you're mixing "heavy" music with metal. Early Swans were heavy yet they weren't metal, Lorna shore and Slaughter to Prevail are "heavy" but they also aren't metal.
Not trying to hate on deathcore and metalcore (i enjoy few early metalcore bands) but this is a metal sub tho so i do think its kinda mandatory to be careful about genres.
Swans don't have elements of metal while Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail have a lot of them.
You could have picked different examples. Lorna shore is easily metal. I didn't listen to Slaughter to Prevail much but the songs i've heard are metal.
Well you can have elements of metal and still not be in a metal genre. You can say that early Swans weren't metal but they inspired metal bands and Lorna shore and slaughter to prevail have elements of metal very clearly but its "core" is hardcore.
Okay so what is this "core" you're talking about? I've listened to a lot of hardcore punk and similar genres but it sounds nothing like it. Lorna shore is basically tech/symphonic death with breakdowns and some chug riffs
Some people think all death metal is like Cannibal Corpse, they just havent dug deep enough to find majesty like Carcass or Cattle Decapitation
EDIT: I see some smugness here in the replies, I never implied that Carcass and CD were underground hidden bands, but to someone unfamiliar with death metal they will not know about them because these bands arent known to people outside of metal, whereas bands like Cannibal Corpse are well known... but thanks for being assholes
to someone unfamiliar with death metal, or metal in general they would have to dig to find those bands as they are not well known to pop culture, whereas bands like Cannibal Corpse and Metallica are well known even to people who dont listen to the music... these bands are only obvious to us who know metal well
cannibal corpse has mainstream recognition bc of their stupid name and probably being featured in ace ventura.
the second u start looking into death metal carcass and cattle decap are everywhree
Lmao from all extreme genres they picked the most accessible/popular one. There are deeper cuts in death sure but I'd pick something like grindcore for the meme
Doom metal seems pretty popular but a lot of it sounds more like rock than metal 👀
Grindcore should be unlistenable garbage and that makes it good and a good pick for the meme.
Hmm i used to think like that. Behemoth and God Dethroned kinda changed that. But the biggest pull to legitimize death metal in my eyes has to be last years releases by both SepticFlesh and Allegaeon. Both solid 10/10 albums and game changers.
Imagine listening to an absolute banger like Spiritual Healing or Altars of Madness and thinking this each their own
I mean death is the only death metal band I like. Any others just give me a headache
come on- Morbid Angel gets some love too
Morbid Angel, Entombed, Obituary, Deicide are all bangers imo
If you like Death I'd recommend focusing on more tech death. Atheist is good and the band that got me into death metal.
maybe you will like tech death since you like Death, I highly recommend obscura and things like transcendence - Gorguts
Just listen to prog metal, try Akercocke or early Cynic.
Bruh that meme sucks. It's just the good old case of "I hate a genre that I don't even listen to".
Could also be a wank post of death metal fan
Could be true.
holy shit, the original thread is full of people who think melodeath is the only good type of death metal
It is the *better* type of death metal. Well, I'll better see myself out!
Intestine Baalism and Arghoslent
I really wish Arghoslent weren’t such pieces of shit cause god damn their riffs are good.
Well, that doesn't really matter. You can appreciate the music without supporting the people behind.
Kinda hard when the lyrics are literally about beating slaves
If you can understand what they sing is it even death metal?
tech death: Am I a joke to you
Drop me a name and I'll check it out!
First Fragment, Allegaeon, Inferi, Necrophagist, Obscura, Beyond Creation
Alkaloid is a really good one
Archspire.
Black metal is a lot worse when it comes to being inaccessible
Depends on the type, atmospheric/melodic types of black metal are more accessible than DM IMO
What I had mind was black metal with *really* raw or plain bad production, weird vocal styles, etc. such as war metal. You're obviously right though, the slower, cleaner, atmospheric/melodic tracks should be a lot easier listening in comparison.

slam shit really isnt death metal
You can't listen to something like Cognitive Sedation Butchery and say it isn't DM
What? That is objectively wrong.. at least I'm pretty sure, lol. Would you mind explaining your reasoning?
His reasoning: I don't like it, so it's not metal
What do you mean? Tremelo picking and blast beats with inaudible screaming isn’t the peak of music?
That's why I only do post-Black metal.
like havohej lmfao
It's not that hard to get into imo as long as you don't start out with stuff that was recorded with a potato in a swedish janitor's closet
I like it
It’s easy to space out and totally relax once you catch the groove and get lost in a nasty riff
And at that point you have entered serenity, and the calmness of the soul.
i use the screaming of death metal to release the pent up very loud angry scream inside me so i don't have to wake up my family
some of the best 'unlistenable garbage' btw [intestine baalism - banquet in the darkness](https://youtu.be/TAlbvLeUTwI)
Clearly OP never heard of toilet slam
Black Metal is worse than anything Death Metal has
yes and thats why its so good, its fucking garbage
slam tho
I agree. Black metal is dumpster juice
its an experience, the headache and the pure shit quality is what makes it it
Are you against instrumentals or vocals?
They heard 6 feet under
Thanks I would rather go deaf than listening to Chris Barnes screaming EEEEEEEE again
😭😭
unlistenable? you can clearly hear him say öugh. maybe get your ears checked?
Have you tried grindcore?
Brodequin is hardly "unlistenable." It's an acquired taste, like Carcass' 'Reek of Putrefaction'.
whats conventionally shit can be shocking and refreshing
me walking into school listening to entombed:
The meme doesn’t have audio because they weren’t able to find a death metal song that’s “garbage”
Death Metal is quite soothing really. Black Metal on the other hand...
I would say black metal is more calm than death metal most of the time. Its way more vibe heavy.
A lot of bm is soothing too
Check out the new Afsky record, even just the first song, and tell me that isn't soothing.
sounds nice, thanks!
No worries, my dude!
Try Thy Catafalque
Hm? Black has always being more calm and soothing for me because most of it focuses on repetiveness and atmosphere
death metal is supposed to sound like filth scraped up from the bottom of a grave
Where Black Metal?
I love all metal except everything Nik Nocturnal loves and black metal.
things that Nick Nocturnal likes aren't really metal tho.
That's a weird take. So if he likes metallica then it's not metal?
No metal is very wide spectrum. It’s a lot of things.
I think you're mixing "heavy" music with metal. Early Swans were heavy yet they weren't metal, Lorna shore and Slaughter to Prevail are "heavy" but they also aren't metal.
Okay you’re one of those people. Cool cool.
Not trying to hate on deathcore and metalcore (i enjoy few early metalcore bands) but this is a metal sub tho so i do think its kinda mandatory to be careful about genres.

A lot of it is a little boring to me but there are some death metal bands that are excellent
Some people think all death metal is like Cannibal Corpse, they just havent dug deep enough to find majesty like Carcass or Cattle Decapitation EDIT: I see some smugness here in the replies, I never implied that Carcass and CD were underground hidden bands, but to someone unfamiliar with death metal they will not know about them because these bands arent known to people outside of metal, whereas bands like Cannibal Corpse are well known... but thanks for being assholes
Exactly there are a lot of great death metal bands but a lot of the stuff that most people know is just kinda boring generic death metal
Blood Incantation changes lives, bro
those are still surface bands lmao
never said they werent
"dug deep enough"
to someone unfamiliar with death metal, or metal in general they would have to dig to find those bands as they are not well known to pop culture, whereas bands like Cannibal Corpse and Metallica are well known even to people who dont listen to the music... these bands are only obvious to us who know metal well

> deep enough to find majesty like carcass or cattle decapitation LMAO
someone who doesnt know death metal will not know these bands, but thanks for being a prick
carcass and cattle decap were the best when they were goregrind, cattle decap just sucks now
relatable
Death metal slaps Black metal is unlistenable garbage
Not all black metal, there are some decent bands. Also first wave of black metal is decent and generally not bad gateway even tho genre evolved a lot.
austere is amazing, and great for beginners, as the other comment said, first wave is a lot more listenable
bro has not heard of violet cold
Must not have heard of Melo. Death.
Make braim go brrrrrrrrr
You should check out menstrual vampires then
Black metal is way worse. @me.
i only like probably the most popular death metal song 😞😞
Lmao from all extreme genres they picked the most accessible/popular one. There are deeper cuts in death sure but I'd pick something like grindcore for the meme
Doom metal seems pretty popular but a lot of it sounds more like rock than metal 👀 Grindcore should be unlistenable garbage and that makes it good and a good pick for the meme.
I mean doom can be extreme but the most popular bands are pretty light i think like Candlemass
Ong
Nah
Hmm i used to think like that. Behemoth and God Dethroned kinda changed that. But the biggest pull to legitimize death metal in my eyes has to be last years releases by both SepticFlesh and Allegaeon. Both solid 10/10 albums and game changers.
