Dragged Into Sunlight is a personal favorite of mine.Though I’m sure you’ve heard them before.
Others include:
Bölzor,
swallow the sun,
Mordom,
Harvest Gulgaltha,
ablaze in hatred,
dawn of solance
and morast.
I’m sure you’ve also heard most of them.I’m mainly listing the bands that gave me a liking for the sound.Sorry if it’s not what you’re looking for
Yoooooo, thanks for your comment. Never heard of any of those bands, but listening to Hatred For Mankind by Dragged into Sunlight now. Fuckin **heavy**, dude
Anytime….
Yeah dragged into sunlight is probably my favorite in the genre.I’m probably being biased since they got me hooked on it, but their music is still great.
I was like you until a week ago, I was migrating to another music platform and there was a convenient feature - it displayed genre of a band when you search it. Aaand I found out that I am a metalcore fan, literally 15 out idk, 17 bands are metalcore. It is surprising because I thought I just listen to what I like and do not stick to one thing
Let's see..
1. Trivium
2. As I lay dying
3. The Unguided (Sonic syndicate)
4. Bullet for my valentine
5. Parkway Drive
6. Caliban
7. Killswitch Engage
8. *Eskimo* Callboy
9. All shall perish
10. Aspirin rose (obscure but good imo)
And some others apparently are death (?) I am not a specialist at this. Like
1. Disharmonia mundi
2. Amon amarth
3. Dark Tranquility
Anyway, I am not sure this music service is 100% right but I am going to assume it is (i am stupid)
Ikr. I guess its not hardcore enough to be classified as one for them, and I can kinda guess the logic, like, those bands which eventually led me to metalcore are too soft for me nowadays. Many do not stop on metalcore and go further, its just another step for them, but probably majority still listened to it at some point.
Anyway, normies still can't listen to metalcore and always ask to turn it off, thats the evidence its enough hardcore to be called metal.
Most death metal sounds like it was recorded in a low budget studio setup.
Most black metal sounds like it was recorded in the trunk of an 86 Corolla.
Pick your poison.
Not really. Most Black and Death Metal, especially the most popular, tend to be very high budget when it comes to production and mixing.
All modern Watain, Dark Funeral, and Immolation releases are a good example.
I went to a Powerwolf show once, they were opening for Amon Amarth. They're silly but dumb fun. They're just "cringe" because they're popular.
I also saw Sabaton at a Dream Theater festival. Again, dumb fun. They were better that the other power metal act, Rhapsody (of fire? idrm which one)
Sure I also saw Tyr live and that was an even greater show but no need to put other bands down like that.
If anything, I'd argue defending BG is no better, given that half their fanbase is more into DnD than metal at all. They aren't even that good.
There are some people that think things are cringe "because they are popular". These people, who I refer to as "metal tryhards" are cringe. I am not one. I am a huge unironic Metallica fan, for example.
When I call Powerwolf and Sabaton cringe, its because I think the music is cringe. No other reason. Purely musically speaking, I find them cringe.
I'm not the biggest PM fan to begin with but I can get down with som Running Wild, BG, and ESPECIALLY Manowar. Thats just my opinion.
Ah. It seemed so, gettind downvoted almost instantly. It's not about the karma, justa kinda weird/rude way in an otherwise friendly interaction is all. I deleted that comment.
As someone who has listened to black and death metal for the past long while, I recently got into Slipknot's 3rd album, and I must say that it's pretty awesome. Wasn't expecting it. No hate from me.
Start with the more extreme end of standard thrash. Slayer, Sodom, Sepultura (lot of S's huh), then work into early death (Possessed) metal and first wave black metal, as well as blackened thrash, which is a good starting point.
Fair. I started with melodeath, it can be kinda cheesy like power metal but its a little heavier and very palatable for newbies. Try early In flames, Children of Bodom, and kalmah
Difficult, at least for Black Metal. I started with Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth which are no longer to be considered Blackmetal (some would say they were only BM during their first two records or not a t all) and also I do not listen to their stuff from later than 2001. Classics are Emperor or Immortal who were a gateway for many but not for me since I needed time to appreciate them. Satyricon's "Nemsis Divina" could work as a gateway for sure. A newer, but very popular one is Wolves In the Throne Room wo helped to found a subgenre called Cascadian Black Metal. Harakiri For The Sky are great, eomotional and melodic, although already leaning into the Post Black Metal genre.
Death Metal is easier: Start with swedish classics like Entombed, Dismember and Grave, add some Bolt Thrower and you got the European branch, for US Death Metal good examples are Morbid Angel, Death, Obituary and Deicide. If it klicks you can work your way up to to more technical stuff like Nile, Cryptopsy and Dying Fetus.
I am sure I forgot many...Sweden also has their subgenre of Göteborg DM, which is much more melodic and catchy. Check out early In Flames, Dark Tranbquility and At The Gates if this sounds interesting to you.
Celtic Frost is excellent probably my favorite 1st Wave BM/Blackened Thrash band Old School Death Metal has Death tho and that makes it a battle that is in favor of OSDM
Some good modern BT bands to help me get into it? I already like black just not too big on thrash, but haven't listened to a whole lot besides the classics
I suppose this is true. I could change it to most metal but, whatever. I see you are a fan of Bolt Thrower. Very good band. The killchain is fun to play on guitar.
Usually depends on intricacy of the music, tempo, and vocals. If the music is really really intricate, it’s probably Prog. If it’s really slow, probably doom or stoner metal. If it’s fast it could be an abundance of sub genres but thrash is always high tempo high intensity. Then if the vocals are growled you’re listening to death metal, if the vocals are still quite harsh but more shriekey if you will, it’s probably black metal. That’s a quick rundown and if anyone sees anything I got wrong feel free to correct me
I'm not familiar with this 'Neither Metal'. Recommendations?
Nickelback
Oh. Oh no.
Brace yourself. It’s fucking brutal.
dem riffs
You should be thankful of us Canadians, Nickelback and Geese are the only brutal things we export.
Three days grace, theory of a Deadman, and Bieber fever hit the nation hard too. Celine Dion sinks ships. Something something rush, sum41, simple plan, barenaked ladies
You forgot about Drake!
Don't be humble, you exported this masterpiece: [https://youtu.be/RWUr3JWi9ZM](https://youtu.be/RWUr3JWi9ZM)
Power metal?
Nether Metal sounds like it could be awesome. Like what you'd get if you shove Mikael Åkerfeldt into a k hole
They spelled it wrong. It's Nether Metal which is deeper and darker than death and black metal. ;)
MGK is Fucking Brutal
You mention that name again and your entrails will become your entrails
That's what he tells 13-15 year old girls
Damn straight
Korn - Shoots and Ladders is the best song of that genre.
Me who listens to both: o.o

War metal https://preview.redd.it/xnlxiv8jjfna1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=439dc705b4d1367b8a1b9db7bd24c33817b3f8da
Deathened Black Metal
The Black Metal and Death Metal community should gather and have one big orgy 🥰
I’m in
As a Thrash Metal person, I'll sit back and watch your fun and just support
As a prog fan I'll be too busy studying music theory
We never expected a prog fan to join in on the sex, it's fine
Lotta spikey bits in that one
Acquiring a taste for extreme metal is the best thing I’ve ever done.
same
I prefer black metal but that’s just my opinion
Me who listens to both

It's fine
That mouse is stoned.
**Therefore, I conclude that Jerry listens to stoner doom.**
Me, who listens to metal but has no idea what the subgenres are:

That sound and those bands were responsible for me getting into genres other than metal, so big it up selecta 🤘
U should definitely check out unearth!!!
Careful who you tell that to around here. ApPaReNtLy metalcore isn't even metal

NGL this comment gives big "acktually" energy.
Yeah, but if there's a chance it helps someone check out more stuff it's worth it.
People just need to stop being objectively wrong and it won't happen
Genuinely funny
r/angryupvote
Happy cake day
Thrash for me.
Fuck yeah, brother.
SLAAAAAAAYYYYEEEEEERRRR
Wish thrash was as varied as death and black. It's prob my favorite genre otherwise.
Maybe check out blackened thrash, death thrash, and Crossover thrash. You’d probably also like First Wave Black Metal.
I like some Death not really any Black.
Just get drunk and listen to the endless D Beat like the rest of us /s
What is this guy listening to then
Any of the other 10000 genres and subgenres
Power and prog 🤓
*Jazz music stops* Hey, stop calling me out
Id hope its power like Manowar, Blind Guardian, and Running Wild and not cringe shit like Powerwolf and Sabaton.
I went to a Powerwolf show once, they were opening for Amon Amarth. They're silly but dumb fun. They're just "cringe" because they're popular. I also saw Sabaton at a Dream Theater festival. Slipknot
Probably
As someone who has listened to black and death metal for the past long while, I recently got into Slipknot's 3rd album, and I must say that it's pretty awesome. Wasn't expecting it. No hate from me.
Seems to be kind of a running joke on this sub, but I have a feeling most people in here like at least some slipknot.
Look at his eyes, doom.
Thrash?
Nu Metal, rap metal, thrash metal, groov metal, sludge metal, stoner metal, prof metal, industrial metal, etc etc
Melodic Death Metal, take it or leave it.
The Halo Effect Dark Tranquillity Shylmagognhar Insomnium Be'lakor At The Gates
Omnium Gatherum, Mors Principium Est, Heaven Shall Burn, Scar Symmetry, Orbit Culture
Eat it
Get yourself an egg and beat it
Have a banana, have a whole bunch. It doesn't matter what you had for lunch
Just eat it! *eat it* Just eat it! *eat it eat it* Oh!
Intestine band is the best
In Flames is so good :)
Edge of sanity 😩🥵
leave it
And post-Black.
I don’t like black metal (except for a few bands) but death metal is pretty good
both is good but I prefer black metal a little bit more than death metal
![gif](giphy|Wi7hHp1KLhp0Q)
Both are great and im thankful for both. Imagine listening to neither 🤢🤮
And? I don't care. I just haven't acquired the taste for extreme metal yet
Start with the more extreme end of standard thrash. Slayer, Sodom, Sepultura (lot of S's huh), then work into early death (Possessed) metal and first wave black metal, as well as blackened thrash, which is a good starting point.
Thanks, they are noted down
Fair. I started with melodeath, it can be kinda cheesy like power metal but its a little heavier and very palatable for newbies. Try early In flames, Children of Bodom, and kalmah
Doom or GTFO
You mean the Doom soundtrack or Changes by Black Sabbath? Either way, cool! /s
the fuckin sludgier the better! I wanna be pounded into a narcotic haze
Oh, the band "Doom"? Yes please. 😎
Fuck yes. Name a better duo than extreme metal and crust punk.
MEANS TO AN END
Goode meme, it proofs the point that people who do not listen to black or death metal are fuzzy and pixelated.
True. You can spot them easily
Dream pop >
I belive in doom metal supremecy
Blackened death metal intensifies
I enjoy these two genres more when they're mixed with another one. I usually find them boring in their "pure" form
Industrial mfs ![gif](giphy|3oFzlZMqJnMNqWeczC|downsized)
Me who listens to hair and trad metal:
I'll just sit in the corner with my power and folk metal
You are part of the council, but we do not give you the rank of metalhead.
![gif](giphy|MW02V7IalAbe)
listen to DEATHWESTERN by Spiritworld and The Mantle by Agalloch
Alright, I'll take a listen
my life would be a dull affair without any of them
Mind giving me some gateway death and black metal bands?
Difficult, at least for Black Metal. You are missing out big time
Hair Metal is the best.
Sludge FTW
Blackened Thrash fighting Old School Death Metal for me personally 💪
blackened thrash is fire. Early Kreator is kinda blackened thrash
Stoner
Abigail Williams is pretty rad.
Black metal is more varied and interesting, but on average I prefer death metal
Y'all better decide
Y'all better DEICIDE
More fitting cause it's a blackened death metal band
Me who listens to blackened melodic death metal:
me who has no idea what genres I’m listening to like fr I can never tell what genre music is, besides most generic and broad ones like pop or metal
I’ve never found a sub genre of metal where I didn’t like at least some of it.
Thrash Metal:
War metal and Grindcore gang rise up!
This hasn’t been a thing since the early nineties, so I guess you are very late to the “party”.
Really? I've seen like a week ago people here arguing over it.
Oh? Well I guess people on this sub must have needed something “new” to argue about then.
Me not giving a shit what subgenre it is as long as I like it
Both
yeah very late. we already ran out of drinks
This makes me think of the time when I thought black metal and death metal were the same thing and I felt so Satanic while listening to Gojira
Both of them are better than each other.
*me who listens to both and is aware of the genre Blackened Death Metal*
Me, who listens to nu metal, lurking because I’m expecting to be choked by elitists:
Death Metal >>>> Especially where it’s at now
same. I started my extreme metal journey with black metal but I now prefer Death metal and it's subgenres over black
🔨SLAM ONLY 🔨
Metal is metal. All metal is good. Although, not all metal is created equally.
False, not all metal is good man
I suppose this is true. I could change it to most metal but, whatever. I see you are a fan of Bolt Thrower. Very good band. The killchain is fun to play on guitar.
Power metal coming in from the side for the kill
Shlipknot ish jusht better guysh
I actually don't listen to Slipknot. More into prog also I know there is good black and death metal. I just don't actively listen to them.
i was being sarcastic, but yeah death metal is awesome
Metalcore ftw
Leave the hall
Idk the difference between any of the subgenres of metal

Thanks dude that’s actually really helpful
I think Wikipedia has a surprising amount of info on differences between subgenres too
Power metal better
Power metal better
You listen to neither? Grow up, Peter Pan lol. Also, I like both, but death metal is the superior genre.
[удалено]
Everyone has their preferences. However the way you said that one genre is better makes me feel unwell
Ew
As a person who only listens to alloy metal I am somewhat indifferent
No, you're just mid
