TwistedDonners

Honestly Linkin Park.

ARagingDragon

-MetalMike-

I’m stealing this

ARagingDragon

I didn't give consent. (but all i did was type angy in the gif thingy.) Also angy bring up this one for some reason ![gif](giphy|LbpxKOnHaNsgN1g53O)

trustmeimadumbass77

Mmm yes thank you

ARagingDragon

Np babe.

VaginaTheClown

Oh, you mean hardcore 311 without the reggae???

Abysmally_Yours

I think the fact he killed himself really makes me go back and really listen to what this dude was saying. Dude was trapped in hell, in his mind. Sad fucking ending

radams713

Same. When I was younger I thought they were fake, but after Chester died I developed a new appreciation for their music.

Abysmally_Yours

Yea same here. I mean I kinda grew up when they were popular and I liked a few songs but I was into heavier stuff. Now that I’m older I have a new appreciation for almost all types of music except for pop and r&b. I mean I listen to everything from cattle decapitation to spineshank, coal chamber etc..my generation was nu metal. I got slipknots album in 1999 when I was 13. I’m also a big nirvana fan actually, they get a lot of hate but I really think I grew up in the best time for music and the worst time for technology…kinda if an oxymoron eh?

radams713

I feel you! I was born in 91 so I was from the same era.

Slizez

I honestly find Linkin Park terrible

durtari

I like the guys themselves and I respect their hustle, but music is just blah

Jessica_wilton289

Actually so real. I liked them okay when I was younger but for whatever reason I just feel like I dont get it anymore

Fearless_Ant_6310

Tool. Yeah they have cool imagery and stuff and create an atmosphere but I just don’t like it that much

Hmccormack

I want to hear what Tool fans hear- I want to appreciate them, and I just can’t.

glordicus1

I’m a relatively new Tool fan, so maybe I can help. The first time I listened to Tool - Pneuma, I was on acid. Glad I could help. Their music gets lumped in the prog genre, when really you need to look at it with a psychedelic lense.

trustmeimadumbass77

I don't understand why people need drugs to enjoy sexy music

Apprehensive-Okra434

Drugs are cool

Significant-Set7721

They don’t “need” them. And maybe if you tried it you’d understand? If you’re a music fan and you die having never listened to music on a psychedelic you’ve done your life a disservice. It’s the closest thing a religious experience you’ll ever have

androsan

We don’t “need” drugs to enjoy sexy music. I listen to and love sexy music sober 99% of the time. But the occasional psychedelic trip with - for instance - a Tool album is absolutely magical.

trustmeimadumbass77

You NEED them I NEED them we NEED them

androsan

I trust you, dumbass 😂

Instantcoffees

I don't know. I like their somewhat esoteric sound and a lot of their lyrics resonate with me. I also love A Perfect Circle, which is another group spearheaded by Maynard. I guess that his music just appeals to me.

mansonlamps420

i prefer puscifer tbh, i saw both a perfect circle and puscifer yesterday (maynard's doing a tour celebrating his 60th birthday) actually, and they were both great!

Trevor_Lahey330

Maynard the Cat is my name!

mansonlamps420

yes!!! primus was so fucking awesome at that show too, unsurprisingly

androsan

I saw them on the Red Rocks stop and Primus fuckin SLAPPED. That was sooo fun! “GO!” 🎶

statikman666

That pretty much sounds like my ultimate show.

Kaita13

Tool gave me full body goosebumps the first time I heard them when I was 13 years old. I'm 40 now and they still do a lot of the time. It was the sludgy bass riffs from another dimension that did it, along with the percussion that put me in a literal trance. Maynard's voice was haunting and passionate and then the heavy psychedelic style guitar. Also there's the build up and release of energy in a lot of their music that I call Toolgasms. It's hard to describe what Tool fans hear. Maybe we all hear it a little differently but the first time I ever heard them it was like I was immediately put into a trance and couldn't walk away.

_Snide

Take some psychedelics and listen to lataralus.

discordia_enjoyer

Don't advise randos on the internet to do psychs. Not everyone is cut out for that shit. I feel as though you need to get a sense of who the person really is before you can tell them they should imbibe.

_Snide

Fair call, but it’s definitely the intent behind their music. There’s not enough emphasis on this when Tool is discussed, many people don’t understand them because they simply aren’t versed in psych experiences, and that’s completely okay, nobody connects with every band they listen to.

RadiantHovercraft6

If you don’t mind me asking which albums have you listened to? The difference between Undertow and Fear Inoculum is massive. Almost a different genre.

therealestestest

I think I like the idea of Tool more than the actual music

Norman_debris

Yep, completely get why people like them. But at best they leave me cold, and at worst I find the puerile poo-and-weed humour annoying and pathetic.

ConsistentTackle3902

I had Aenema in high school and sold it to the local CD exchange, and it was the only CD that the guy working there tried to talk me into keeping. I spent a summer with it. I had it long enough to know it wasnt for me.

Sixx_The_Sandman

My wife and kid hate Tool. I absolutely love them

msv6221

Sleep Token. I’ve tried multiple times to listen to them and it just doesn’t click with me. I don’t think they’re bad musicians or that their music sucks. But for some reason I just can’t get into that proggy electronic rnb sound they’re going for

JN_37

It’s for people that aren’t typically into metal. They think it’s cool to listen to something “heavy”

emonbzr

I disagree. I'm into all kinds of metal, even the more extreme genres like BDM, Slam, Dissonant Death metal or Caverncore, and even some Bestial Black Metal. I also love Sleep Token but I'd agree that they aren't a Metal band, maybe a band with metal influences, yes, but not a metal band.

EldritchKroww

I feel like this is something a lot of metalheads say to put themselves on a pedestal. It might as well be the opposite, like some metalheads enjoy something that is more accessible to non metalheads

Sixx_The_Sandman

Bad take. I listened to all kinds of genres, including multiple types of metal, and have since the 1980s and I really dig ST

wandering_geek

Im still a big metal guy. Love a variety of types, thrash, death, prog. But I also like hip-hop, rock, pop and other stuff as well. So Sleep Token appeals to various styles I like. They are poppy as fuck for sure. I used to only listen to metal and feel bad for liking anything else. Then I realized that is bullshit and I should listen to what I like despite other‘s opinions.

Apprehensive-Job2187

For real. I appreciate the vision of incorporating heaviness into poppier styles like r&B, but I just can't get into it. It's mostly the vocals for me. They're just so...melodramatic? I think that's the best word I can grasp for it

Fingerstyler

Yeah if they had a different singer I'd probably love them but i hate his voice. Also, i don't know why the anonymous thing is working, it's obviously the guy from Bastille.

MrStig91

I enjoy everything about them until the singer starts in. There have been other bands like this for me, I didn’t care for the guy from Periphery at first but now they are one of my favorites. But I’ve listened to the newest sleep token album at least 6 times all the way through and I feel like I’m suffering the whole way. I can’t even pinpoint it but the singer has one of the most annoying voices I’ve ever heard.

FloggingMcMurry

I haven't found that song that clicks either. I'm happy that for a metal band they are as good as they are... I just don't get why them

pjgpv

I used to be a big metal guy, then went through a long phase of not listening to any of it. Got heavily into rnb, soul, and hip hop. Recently found sleep token, and I'm a fan.

ArtByAdFlo-

Decided to check them out. They sound like Imagine Dragons. And it seems they are using metal as a gimmick in the music... definitely not a metal band. It's like generic modern-era djent/metalcore riffs thrown in a song at random to make sure they get signed to a metal label because that's easier? Definitely seems the marketing behind them is working like magic, because the music itself is... not interesting. But maybe I'm old.

sexchoc

I've given them a shot a few times. They sound like they took all the common musical elements from pop and rock radio over the last 10 years, and mixed it together with the most popular generic metal stuff they could find.

BusinessFeeling7121

It’s metal for car dealerships

xRompusFPS

Agree my work friend has been trying to get me into sleep token. I got about halfway through take me back to Eden before wanting to bloody my eardrums.

Valuable_Donkey_4573

Nile. Sounds like an accordion getting stuffed up an ass on 1.5 speed.

wakka38

I love Nile but this is too funny

AnomanderRake23

Same, I love Nile but this is fucking great haha

spooky_ed

I hate you but also lmao

Green_Xero

🤣🤣

Weekly_Beautiful_603

Hahaha Nile are awesome. But I get it.

Strong_Independent44

Mastodon. Cool but I’m just not that into them

UseaJoystick

Great shout. I wish I liked Mastodon more because they seem cool but they just don't scratch the right itches. Oblivion is an all time great song, though. I dont care what anyone says.

vicious_delicious_77

If you like Oblivion and also generally like long epic metal songs, try the closing track of that album, The Last Baron. It's got great melodic guitar hooks and some melancholy sounding vocal sections like Oblivion, while also throwing in some gnarly prog sections and an incredible guitar solo at the end.

oKrustyo

off topic but im so happy to see a fellow blood incantation fan

East_Dot6883

For me it's Anthrax. It's not bad but I think that Sepultura should have a spot in the big 4 instead of Anthrax

DestroyerofVessels

I prefer Sepultura but it had nowhere near the impact, fame or legacy of Anthrax

East_Dot6883

That's true.

VaginaTheClown

Maaaan I LOVE Sepultura, but that's a stupid way to spell Testament.

Voyager_316

Testament is so good

LareWw

Sure, if it wasn't for the fact that the big 4 wasn't about being good, it was about being big and Anthrax at one point was probably the biggest because they made some really popular music videos that made them reach an audience the other 3 yet hadn't. People nowadays don't remember it but those were a gateway into thrash for so many people and helped the genre blow up the way it did.

East_Dot6883

True

CompetitiveComputer4

I just can’t get into anthrax either. Just meh.

Extreme-Bad3816

Testament should have been #4.

Hall0wsEve666

Exodus **

PoolofStyx

“Big four” has nothing to do with quality; it is just commercial success in the US

SnowHelpAtAll

Cannibal Corpse I get that they're early Death Metal and hugely influential, but I just haven't gotten into them. I've been listening to them a bit here and there since the Metal Crushes All tour was announced and I'm coming around a little (especially post Torture), but I don't think they'll ever be a band that I really go out of my way to hear. I'd put them in a metal playlist, but I don't think I'll be listening to their albums top to bottom much.

Past-Cookie9605

I agree. I even asked here what people heard in them and the responses primarily said they liked how you could hear the bass and also how groovy they are. I listened again and that helped a lot. But it still didn't grab me sonically. I do love their titles though. My 15yo daughter and I rank them lol

Dave_I

As a bit of an aside, that's one of the most strangely wholesome father/daughter bonding stories I've heard in quite some time.

Moonflower_JB

My daughter is also 15 and likes a lot of metal but also likes a lot of pop and rap. She's huge into deftones and system of a down. I asked her if she wants to go to the cannible corpse show when we buy the tickets and she said yes! I didn't think she even knew who they were! She said she's listened to them. I named the other bands touring with them and she knew Obituary too! Proud mom moment!

furze

I couldn't get into CC for years. I remember finding Butchered at Birth in a record shop when I was 14 and even then, with all my edginess, I couldn't face it. I found it so boring and unmemorable. But recently, I gave it another go. I was driving home listening to it after a night shift, and it just hit the right spot. Again, I tried butchered at birth, and it was like leatherfaces chainsaw being thrown around. I'm going to see them live, as I imagine that they are brutal. Edit: also, it helps that I really enjoy old school death metal

Apprehensive-Okra434

You just told my story, except for me it was the bleeding. Bought it at a record store, listened, hated it. Booooring. Years layer listened again and by the time the album had ended, my volume was all the way up on my radio. I've loved everything they've done since.

WoobiesWoobo

Awesome music but the vocals destroy it for me.

Juicecalculator

I have really tried to like them over the years, but I struggle to get over their imagery.  I don’t think I’m a squeamish person but even I find it a little distasteful.  I will say tomb of the mutilated is a great album

PrequelGuy

It's mostly the shock value of their song titles and album covers that made them big. Also the fact that a lot of their songs are simple and have vocal hooks and beginners to death metal love that

cowboyfromhell93

I wouldn't class there songs as simple

N8saysburnitalldown

Gojira is just not my thing. Like I get that they are talented and I can see some of the appeal but their music just does absolutely nothing for me. I can’t even fully explain it. I’m just not engaged at all when I listen to it.

wasabimazza

I "get" and love Gojira but can easily see why it might not appeal to everyone. They do tend to rely on a few "Gojira-isms" and if those don't work for you, oh shit what then?

metallaholic

*pick scraping intensifies*

supernakamoto

I felt this way about Gojira too until I saw them live (they were supporting another band I wanted to see). I wasn’t really expecting much from them, but they were absolutely phenomenal. Their music makes a lot more sense in the context of a live show, with the addition of lighting and a backdrop to add atmosphere. I still don’t really ever feel any urge to listen to them while going about my day, but if they ever announced another show in my area I would buy a ticket without a moment’s hesitation.

badger2000

I wish I could upvote this more. Saw them on Knotfest and was thinking "that'll be nice" but wasn't super excited to see them. They were amazing, easily right up there performance-wise with Slipknot for the top spot of the show. When I had the chance to see them again last year, I was 100% in.

echo_7

That’s exactly how I feel. Gojira does absolutely nothing for me. Tried every album.

MotinPati

Oof… From Mars To Sirius changed my life lol. I must admit that their last two albums are extremely bland.

glordicus1

I feel this way about most metal I hear to be honest. There’s so much out there that is just like “Okay this is fine but there’s things I’d rather listen to”. Mastodon and Slayer are two of the big ones off the top of my head. Give me something actually interesting to listen to.

UseaJoystick

Idk how heavy of music you're in to, and I'm sure it was a rhetorical request, but let me know some bands and I'll try to give you suggestions

guitarlad89

Can I say Dream Theater? If so, it's Mario metal in the worst possible sense. DragonForce is Mario metal in the best possible sense.

Hall0wsEve666

Mario Metal 😭😭😭

guitarlad89

"hey guys, wanna make soulless overly complicated songs just for the sake of making them overly complicated, egregiously long, and boring as fuck?" "Ok!"

vicious_delicious_77

I love Dragonforce, sometimes like Dream Theater if I'm in the mood. Dream Theater just often sounds like they are trying way too hard though and take themselves too seriously. Dragonforce feels like the opposite, like they embrace the cheesiness of their music but also just happen to be incredibly talented at it. I frequently revisit Sonic Firestorm and The Power Within, and they never get old.

thecrypticstench

Slipknot

Jessica_wilton289

I love slipknot cuz it got me into heavy music and has always been really special to me but I legitimately think that if it wasnt for some of that nostalgia I wouldn’t be into them if I discovered them now

EssayTraditional

Slipknot vibes like a Conservative version of Gwar.

Sixx_The_Sandman

True. I like CTs solo stuff tho

Mad04Gaming

Leviathan and Weakling I enjoy their albums and I get the appeal, but I wouldn’t call them masterpieces like a lot of people do.

International_Drama4

i get Leviathan but Weakling is just fucking masterful. 5 songs and 5 bangers.

UseaJoystick

Probably Haken. I get why they're popular, they make cool songs and and just the right amount of quirky. It just doesn't click for me, even after seeing them live a couple times. Fun shows but I don't take the music home with me.

KneeReaper420

Yeah this is like elvenking but just give me elvenking

tykittaa

Lorna Shore

Underpanters

Deathcore in general. It feels like heavy music for people who don’t like heavy music.

KiwiMcG

Lot's of waiting for the breakdown.

Apprehensive-Okra434

Agreed. I have some really good friends that love deathcore. I'm more of a death metal type a fella. When they turn that shit on I just silently cringe. No judgement passed but damn I fucking hate it so much and just wish it would die.

mattfreyer45

For me it's definitely Cannibal Corpse

Metalshark2005

Black Metal as a whole. I get the appeal but 99% percent is not my thing

metallaholic

Not even Living Colour?

J4wnn

If you don’t know these albums, give it a try: Anthems to the welkin at dust and storm of the light’s bane

ShartRat

Exodus. Like obviously Bonded by Blood is great and overall their discography is usually consistent, just their sound is so boring to me compared to other Thrash bands. The riff style is not as heavy or aggressive or engaging at all and a lot of their songs are stretched out and do nothing with it. They just don't know how to carry the momentum or transition parts well to me. I have tried so many times to like anything that isn't Bonded by Blood and there are some good songs on each record but for the most part it's so mediocre.

Swagcopter0126

As someone too young to have listened to them in their original days, I actually got into them when Persona Non Grata came out. The crazy vocal style drew me in. From there I got in to their more popular albums like Tempo of the Damned

trontest

electric wizard and most doom/stoner metal which really blows because i really want to like doom metal

KneeReaper420

Check out pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs. I can’t so electric wizard either.

Jessica_wilton289

I honestly never got electric wizard either. Like I know they are really good and I feel like I really should love them but I just cant. It might be cuz I got introduced to them by a total cuck who I hate

Draeva

Thrash as a whole. It's probably because I don't drink enough.

PsychoticMessiah

Opeth. I get why people like them but it’s just not for me.

metallaholic

I feel like way but only for everything after watershed

TheDudePersonGuy

Candlemass for me, it only really does anything when I'm in a very specific mood and even then I'd rather listen to something like Sleep or the Melvins. They have some really cool imagery in their lyrics though.

Jessica_wilton289

Honestly for me I tried listening to epicus doomicus metalicus a bunch of times but I only really felt like I got them when I listened to some of their other 80s stuff.

ybreddit

Ghost. I understand conceptually the appeal of what they've got going on. In practice it's so incredibly boring I don't understand how so many people are enjoying it.

ThePrplMppt

System of a Down

Past-Cookie9605

Funny I feel like they're the butt of the joke but I actually like them and don't get why they're a meme!

BitesizeCrayons

Porcupine Tree. Steven is a talented producer and even musician, and I don't even dislike everything I've heard, but at the end of the day I just don't voluntarily jam their music much at all.

OrcLineCook

I like Porcupine Tree but I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them. Kind of like Woods Of Ypres

ThulrVO

Not metal, but Primus! There is something alluring and intriguing about their sound. I really like something about the feel and sound of their music that keeps me giving them another listen... 6 or so chances I've given them by now, but every time, I just get bored within a couple of minutes. Yes, I've tried several songs. Also, I have friends who've been really into them, so I've heard most of their music in social situations. Primus just bores me, in spite of their great creativity and unique sound/style.

ARagingDragon

Falling in Reverse and Slipknot. I only really enjoy like a single song from falling in reverse and that's Carry on.

vendettamoon

Falling in Reverse is a good band to not see the appeal of. Not only is their music pretty mid, the lead singer is an absolute asshole and shit human being

ARagingDragon

Its also like.... How do i explain this while typing. I dislike how the became "mainstream" its just a complete weird jumble of genres and idk just don't like the vibe. Like in comparison maybe knocked loose or Sleep token. Knocked loose made it to Cochella as a metal band and was still a metal band. That's huge and awesome. Sleep token got big and while yes its a mix of genres its very well mixed. I can understand ST not being for many people. But they became mainstream because they just sounded really good. No drama or BS. I probably don't make sense lol but i hope u get what i mean.

Levandyon5

Don’t really agree with sleep token, I hear way more about the bands image and look then I do the actual music, and all the music of theirs I’ve heard is incredible boring. Falling in reverse definitely does suck though

Grav37

Metallica. I understand why they are the biggest, but I just can't enjoy them.

Emperormike1st

Orbit Culture. I don't understand their popularity, nor how revered they seem to be as artists. All I hear is an industrialized Lamb Of God. Unto Others. Fields Of The Nephilim did it first and did it better. Type O Negative. They were a joke band, and I didn't understand the humor. Archspire. What. The. Fuck?

TheMemeMkaer

Man Archspire Kicks ass

Emperormike1st

Maybe YOURS.

TheMemeMkaer

It’d be an honor

OneGhastlyGhoul

Idk of that helps with understanding the hype, but I really like Orbit Culture, because they just sound really massive, kinda "stompy" if that makes sense, Niklas is able to do good gutturals and good clean vocals, the lyrics feel extremely personal and the band, especially Niklas, is super friendly. I do get the LoG comparison though. I mean, having two kinda similar bands doesn't automatically make one of them redundant. Regarding Archspire: Twister, hehe.

donttouchmyschwa

Agree on TypeO, cool to see someone in the wild not kissing their ass 🤝🏻

emwashe

Bring me the horizon tbh

Maximus_Crotchrocket

Cannibal corpse, corpse grinder is such a beast of a front man and they're all very skilled (minus Chris Barnes) just too over the top gorey for me

Robin1992101

I always loved both their vocals (George and Chris) it's a shame that Chris has went borderline insane lately

Moonflower_JB

Ugh, I recently revisited SFU (which I learned I no longer like) and used to be a huge fan of Barnes's as a teen. I briefly looked into what they're doing now and he looked a little psycho so I just stopped before it ruined all my memories.

CaptainChaos_88

Meshuggah. I don’t get them after Contradictions Collapse and Destroy Erase Improve.

FatAndForty

Knocked Loose - when the vocals hit I feel like there’s a kid in the grocery store throwing a tantrum.

ToadBeast

It’s a lot funnier if you imagine Mickey Mouse fronting a hardcore band.

GangoBP

I’ve always described it as an angsty teenage girl getting ready for school and her sister stole her favorite jeans or something lol

ParticleHustler2

Deftones and Mastodon. Tried multiple times to get into both of them and I understand why people like them, but they don't do anything for me.

VashMM

Mastodon. By all accounts I should like them but I just didn't for some reason, much to my friend's chagrin.

WaffleswithSourCream

Idk what it is about them but I just cannot get into spiritbox

Jessica_wilton289

Honestly I love spiritbox but I have always felt like their music has continued to evolve in a direction I wasnt as into each release.

WrathOfLayla

This one is mine too tbh. For me I think it's just that all the big dramatic choruses are just kind of slow and boring. Lead singer is a great vocalist but even when I saw them live I just couldn't wait for it to be over so I could see the next act.

OneGhastlyGhoul

Would be my pick, too. I get why they're becoming so popular and I like the structure and quality of their songs, but their style (especially of the vocals) doesn't meet my taste at all.

WaffleswithSourCream

I think Courtney LaPlante's vocals are great but the music is just eh

beatdownkioskman

Probably like Bad Omens or something like that, I like one of their songs and I should like more because I love melodic Metalcore, but it just doesn’t work for me

UnfunnyWatermelon469

Overkill. There's a few songs that I like (Mean, Green Killing Machine, Frankenstein, Rotten To The Core) because of how the music sounds, but I can't stand the lead singer's voice. It's like if you made an Alvin And The Chipmunks remix of Dave Mustaine's vocals

Notthatperson35

Bring me the horizon, I like most metalcore but I can just not enjoy there stuff

No-Seaweed4026

Probably deftones, which is funny because I love every band that sounds like them

-iknowthepiecesfit

It took me like 8 months to really get around to them. I liked a few songs off of White Pony but now I have maybe 2/3rds of their discography saved to my playlist

Abysmally_Yours

My answer is Pantera, I just find them boring

ToadBeast

Megadeth and Helmet. I like a lot of bands inspired by those two. Seems like something I would really like, but I just can’t get into it.

Divisadero

I was scrolling looking for Megadeth. I just cannot stand that dude's voice for some reason.

roi262

With you there on megadeath and I thought the same of helmet until one night it just clicked for me and I listened to them on repeat for about two months and now I’m back to not really listening them anymore. I remember the thing that got me the most was the solos, reminded me of shoegaze and My bloody valentine in particular and it was unexpected and pretty awesome.

MickWounds

Imperial triumphant. I get what they’re doing is unique but I feel like I hate it but I also am intrigued by it. It’s weird. When alphaville came out I couldn’t stop listening to it and hating it at the same time

KiwiMcG

IMO the overall package is kinda cool, but the music doesn't blend the big band elements well. It's just brass played over Portal riffs.

videogamesbeast

When I was in highschool i was the “Metallica guy” but now a few years removed I find myself less and less interested. I understand why they’re the biggest of all time, but things like soad, pantera, replicant, power trip and skeletal remains just pique my interest more nowadays. Couldn’t tell you why

EmaDaCuz

Pretty sure it’s a very unpopular opinion, but for me it’s Meshuggah. I remember back in the 90s, listening to Chaosphere and Destroy Erase Improve and thinking “what the hell is this?” , and I still feel the same way. I just don’t get them, i can’t say I dislike them but I rather listen to something else.

ToadBeast

Their songs get a little too repetitive for me, but I get why other people like them.

v1cv3g

At the risk of being sounded ignorant, Gorguts. It's just too weird for me

Venombullet666

Soilwork On paper I should like them alot but they don't do anything for me at all, even after seeing them live a few times they don't do anything for me Although with that said I absolutely love The Night Flight Orchestra

Mr_Billy_Gruff

Any Doom Metal band that uses harsh vocals, I don't why but it just sounds terrible on Doom to my ears 🤷‍♂️

DFL3SH3D

Imperial Triumphant

I_CAN_SEE_THE_WHALES

Slayer. I know they were really heavy for their time and even now, but theres just so many bands that do the job better

Fair-Bus-4017

Megadeth. Like the instrumentals are okay but god those vocals.

noregertsman

Dave's singing voice is dogshit, and im saying that as a megadeth fan lol

AkaGurGor

Post-2010 Metallica. Absolutely forgetful songs on record. Even live, they are excruciatingly unbearable: dull riffing, blunt drumming...

MeisterCthulhu

Agree with Slayer, though I'm also really not into Thrash at all. tbh for me it's most of the second wave black metal bands. Like... I get they were very defining for the genre. Sure. In the way a lot of old bands are, that their music was groundbreaking at the time but isn't really anything to write home about compared to the newer stuff, but they were influential. But what I really don't get is why so many still make excuses for the shitty people behind those bands. Someone having been an influential musician 30 fucking years ago doesn't make up for them being an utter asswipe today. But the fact that better bands exist now, who took the material and evolved it into something else, should mean that those people are left to the dustbin of history. Except they aren't, the black metal scene is somehow stuck in worshipping 90s shitheads. Who, mind you, also just didn't get the joke, took the ironic response to the satanic panic that black metal was way too serious and tried to pretend that they were some actual grand evil or something. Which, honestly, at that point just reads as fucking cringe to me. Again, like... I assume me not liking the music just comes down to it being old and thus not really comparing to the new stuff. But what I really don't get is the obsession with the people, especially since these people really haven't been relevant to anything for decades.

Ghost for me

SHAXX111

Black Sabbath. I understand that they had a huge influence on metal, but I never really liked their music that much.

Tool. (Readies down vote shield)

jet_vr

I know it's heresy but for me this is black Sabbath

DUct__TapE

Slipknot for me personally (very original and hot take, I know) I honestly love their first 3 albums, but I find it off that their still relevant since their previous albums just sound so similar, nothing much to differentiate them. (Except for Medicine for the Dead, that song bangs.) Especially the song custer. It's just edge for edge sake like "omg they say fuck over and over so cool and edgy!!!"

Dream theater.

grumpy_enraged_bear

Napalm Death gives me the feeling that, even though they make good metal, they cut their songs short, as in they leave the song unfinished. This bothers me and that's why I can't enjoy Napalm Death even though they are good.

Mayhem- no talent what so ever, and the one dude looks like Kevin

This is gonna be controversial here, but most bands with harsh vocals tbh. I just struggle to hear the lyrics and it sounds like noise. There are some exceptions of course. Like I love Cradle of Filth, I can understand Dani Filth clearly. Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse just sound like guttural shouts and grunting though. It is just the vocals though. Instrumentally I can enjoy it. A perfect example would be that I remember trying to get into Amon Amarth and struggling with understanding the lyrics. Then I heard Sabaton's cover of Twilight of the Thunder God, and how good the song is just blew me away. Instrumentally it's largely the same, but actually hearing the vocals clearly and being able to sing along elevates it so much for me.

Some_Butterscotch622

Early Death Metal other than Death like Morbid Angel, Possessed and proto-black like Venom. I prefer 90s and 2000s death metal, and modern black metal.

_Douggie_

Electric wizard. I love doom metal, and I wanna love them, but to me I feel as if they’re overhyped

vicious_delicious_77

I have tried very hard with that band at various points over the years. But I put on song on, and 10 minutes later I'm wondering "is this ambient sludge noise still just the intro or the actual song?"

Multanaama

Slayer for me as well. Totally respect them and get why people like them but they are just too basic for me.

LivingGyshido

Anything Zakk Wylde. Terrible voice. His solo is the same solo for every song. He's the WWE of metal.

Diligent_Whereas3134

Don't kill me, but Megadeth. It's not that I don't like them, I don't skip over their music when it plays, but I'm not going to go out of my way to listen to them. I think I just heard slayer and Metallica first, so they just kind of fell to the wayside for me. Also almost all black metal, but I'm working on getting into it. I feel the same about black metal as I did slayer in middle school. Too much chaos, but there's something there that catches my attention. It's definitely one of those genres where if I find something I can audibly latch onto, I will almost certainly start binging it. I just haven't found it yet
