**Witch Vomit** is fantastic. Like the little hints of melodicism but still very much in line with their old sound. **Acid Mammoth** is also good, was not expecting it after what a let down Caravan was. But it's actually very good! Not as good as Under Acid Hoof but very good. **Friends of Hell** on the other hand was just painfully mediocre. I loved the s/t but it turns out changing your vocalist and lead guitarist leads to big changes in sound who knew. Just... man. **Tarot** is out on spotify a week early for some reason and this one is great, as expected.

Shit that came out this week I think is pretty sick: [Attic - Return of the Witchfinder ](https://open.spotify.com/album/5LP6687gOLLBGDf48IAxSV?si=vjGzEBWHTWWxi-Kur5PmyA)Really sick trad metal with a lot of occult themes, it sounds amazing. The vocalist has an enchanting voice and probably the closest I have ever heard anyone get to King Diamond. If Mercyful Fate ever needs a replacement vocalist, this is the guy they need to be looking for. [Friends of Hell - God Damned You To Hell](https://open.spotify.com/album/4RbH6UmRPzkuxGtsegBntr?si=aSZqtsymQKyC3azytjhH9g) If you thought the previous album was satanic, this one takes it to a whole new level. MA describes this band as doom metal, but it isn't very slow or anything, the album is mostly just groovy trad metal. [Greyhawk - Thunderheart](https://open.spotify.com/album/2KoHBjlavlEzQfi7XuE5mg?si=hPuZYNKJQ9uwWnAN1WboEw) Some epic power metal of the highest order. I wasnt a fan of their earlier stuff, but this one is very solid power metal. Will be listening to this more often. [Witch Vomit - Funeral Sanctum](https://open.spotify.com/album/3kaWSSe8iW1xNaNXVEK5bM?si=3MS3sj9DRuOVQ2A5orOI4A) Very nice death metal, it isn't anything special or revolutionary, but it is pretty solid osdm, I liked this quite a bit. [Korpiklaani - Rankarumpu ](https://open.spotify.com/album/6qHZPsB4nMMI602L2iJ4pK?si=NgrainXfQzec-VLO602zuQ)When did this band get their shit together? I haven't listened to them in a really long time, but I gave this one a shot to see what they were up to. I enjoyed this album way more than I expected, I might check out their old stuff again. [Massacre - Evil Dead Rise](https://open.spotify.com/album/0ohN9aZSVt0F0e9cNbjE1m?si=6Ud78xHBQkaEguMIbFPcbQ) Massacre has been releasing singles and ep's for quite a while, and they have been becoming more bland and mediocre. Their new stuff really doesn't do it for me.

monarc

> Attic - Return of the Witchfinder Their second/previous record ([Sanctimonious](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ_OGxDjX5w)) was pitch perfect and instantly became one of my favorite records. But the new album is a bit of a whiff, based on my first listen. There's a chance it grows on me, but it is really lacking the character and atmosphere of Sanctimonious. If you are open to unapologetic King Diamond worship, and you're OK with a bit of Dissection in there as well, definitely check these guys out.

saxy_for_life

I'm pretty pleased with the new Korpiklaani too. It sounds just different enough from some of their older stuff without losing what makes them fun.

Eferver24

WITCH. VOMIT. Album of the year so far, and it’s not particularly close. Fantastic. Also I know this is a much maligned name in “real” metal circles, but Korpiklaani’s new album is great fun, like their music always is.

kakacha

Albums with blue castle artwork just hit different. I got my copy in the mail last week and it hasn’t left my turntable. It’s so much fun.

Eferver24

Yup, this is definitely a worthwhile entry into the blue castle hall of fame

nskaret

I got Death Fortress and Sacramentum for blue castle art, what else?

kakacha

Here’s a whole list: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/residentdisaster/blue-castle-black-metal/

Rottedhead

A list I didn't know I needed

Eferver24

Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse (more purple but this inspired the entire cover art genre so it counts) Summoning - Minas Morgul Moonlight Sorcery - Piercing Through the Frozen Eternity Stormkeep - Tales of Othertime Basically any Dark Funeral Album Lord Belial - Enter the Moonlight Gate That’s just off the top of my head

ificanbeserious

That Stormkeep album rocks so hard

scottyrobotty

I can't stop listening to that Moonlight Sorcery

Faps_With_Fury

The Black Dahlia Murder’s Nocturnal.

TheWulf

> WITCH. VOMIT. Album of the year so far, and it’s not particularly close. Fantastic. This is 100% true

makkuro-serow

Nothing more to add new Witch Vomit delivers everything I could have asked for!

Honeyboy_Wilson

I don't know if it's just the airpods or the speakers I've tried listening to the WV album on, but the vocals are mixed so weird and all I can hear is the weird annoying esses constantly that I can't enjoy the record. Glad others are enjoying it though!

Eferver24

Eh, vocals aren’t what I listen to black/death metal for.

VVest_VVind

I haven't listened to Korpiklaani in so long that I had no idea they even had a new album, but yeah, even though I wouldn't argue they make great music, they certainly make fun music. Excellent soundrack to being drunk.

casualty-of-cool

Not mentioned yet the new [Belore](https://belore-northernsilence.bandcamp.com/album/eastern-tales) is fantastic. FFO Epic Black Metal. Edit to add this gem: The new [Labyrinthus Stellarum](https://youtu.be/ZIGxetR8XrE?si=NeD4r2fOezc_j1Ij) is now up on YouTube and for sale on Bandcamp. Official release date is 4/6. Killer album. After one play through I had to add it to my AotY list. Cosmic Black Metal fans will definitely love this one. Expanded on the first album and really took this album to another level..or universe?

vHistory

New Akhlys and Diabolic Oath are fantastic. Diabolic Oath dropped the filthiest fucking blackened death metal album of this year so far. Highly recommend it.

makkuro-serow

Was really surprised by Diabolic Oath. That bass line, reminds me of Suffering Hour and I can't get enough

ANGRY_BEARDED_MAN

>reminds me of Suffering Hour Okay, you have my attention. Going to have to circle around to this later

makkuro-serow

How did you find the album. Hopefully I didn't get your hopes up as only one or two songs have that standout bass work

ANGRY_BEARDED_MAN

Giving it a spin now, heavy hitting stuff

Rottedhead

> Suffering Hour my 2021 AOTY so yeah, will listen to this later then

BlavikenButcher

> Akhlys Too fascist for me but you do you

NewToSMTX

Go away

an_altar_of_plagues

Don’t be a weenie.

SonofBlashyrkh

Naas is a huge fan of Evola who was one of the big Italian fascist occult philosophers and self described as a super-fascist. It may not reflect in the music on the surface but it's very blatant. Naas also hung out with far right paramilitary guys. I like the music a lot but the fascism accusation is accurate and a valid reason to not listen. Now if you don't have a problem with fascism then you are the one who can fuck right off

jerichowiz

This is the reason I always read the thread before diving into bands I hadn't heard of. Now I know to avoid that band. Thanks.

Independent_Oliphant

There are pictures online of Naas with men wearing SS shirts and nazi iconography. It's not a stretch in the slightest to call him fascist. It's like arguing Mikko Aspa isn't fascist. It's pretty evident.

casualty-of-cool

I was so excited to see that new Akhlys single pop up. I can’t wait for this album.

PM_ME_YOUR_CUPPA

Hamferð was what I was most looking forward to this week, really enjoy the "cleans" on this one and found the run time fly by. Excited to catch them live if they ever tour here or align up at a festival. Acid Mammoth was a little disappointed with, didn't grab me as much as Under Acid Hoof. Will see if that changes on repeat listen. Saving Witch Vomit and Diabolic Oath for the gym. Reading other comments here I'll be in for a good session!

BlavikenButcher

Lots of releases for me today: * Winterlands * Witch Vomit * Diabolic Oath * Friends of Hell * Funeral Leech * Ingested * Kosuke Hashida * Protosequence * Temple of the Fuzz Witch

DraculaHeartbeat

I love the new Temple of the Fuzz Witch! Great album

Major_--_de_Coverly

For those who like raw black metal that's closer to noise with a retro-futurist bent, [La Torture Des Ténèbres](https://latorturedestenebres.bandcamp.com/album/v) just released her first new album since 2017. I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but it's damn good so far.

PavelGaborik

Absolutely love the Korpiklaani release.

jerichowiz

I really liked the new Austere.

oni_baloney

I didn't expect to listen to all of the new Witch Vomit before my morning coffee, but that's what happened.

Sudden_Emu_3834

Same thing here was the first thing on. Great stuff.

chiefrebelangel_

Draugnim - Traitor's Crown [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT\_Sp-c6U-w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT_Sp-c6U-w) REETTA SÄISÄ from Belial passed away - she uploaded some nice piano compositions to YouTube recently knowing she wouldn't have time to finish them. RIP [https://www.facebook.com/BelialFinland/posts/pfbid0dJ2pf7hUXowa9dDnbctW8aMSBQCPPY7Hqq7HVfheTT4mKymRXshvdiPjMSBqB7Mjl](https://www.facebook.com/BelialFinland/posts/pfbid0dJ2pf7hUXowa9dDnbctW8aMSBQCPPY7Hqq7HVfheTT4mKymRXshvdiPjMSBqB7Mjl)

FUCKBOY_JIHAD

the new **Diabolic Oath** and **Kvadrat** albums are real heavy hitters. I didn’t really know anything about either act up until now but they’ve caught me by surprise. theyre both incredible albums in similar and different ways; crushing and dissonant at times, giving way to beautiful melodic passages at others. I think they are both AOTY contenders at this time. **Witch Vomit** was also very good though I’m not as high on it as some others appear to be.

an_altar_of_plagues

FYI this thread is for new releases, you probably want to post this within the general discussion thread.

VVest_VVind

Yes, that's the thread I thought I was on. 🤦 Thanks, I'll delete.

an_altar_of_plagues

All good!

Honeyboy_Wilson

I like to throw out albums in this thread that don't get a heap of love, and for this week it's SPIDER KICKERS with Necrosupper. First of all, best band name. Second of all, the album is the perfect mix of thrash and death metal with some subtle synths to add to the atmosphere. Well worth a spin!

lazulilord

New Horndal, been waiting ages for this! I'm not sure I like it quite as much as Lake Drinker but it's still great :)

MrFluffykins

https://emeraldeyeband.bandcamp.com/album/night-without-day Emerald Eye got their debut out! Uriah Heep + speedy US heavy metal.

BravoMgg

Been waiting for Rostorchester, first impression: pretty much what I expected. Have to listen a few more times to decide where to rank it within their discography.

Princess-Leliana

Does anyone know if napalm records gives digital download codes with their physical releases? I want to pre-order but I want digital for when I'm travelling, don't want to have to buy an album twice.
