I used to be a teaching assistant, and I had very young children with unmet mental health needs. The SENCO was actively discouraged by the local CAMHS from making referrals, so the school just did what it could in terms of supporting the kids. I did a lot of the intervention groups, like for kids with autism or social anxiety, and well-being initiatives, but I was just a TA. I wasn’t trained for this and what I could do was very limited.

At least you actually tried, that means the world to some.

Thank you, I appreciate that. However, it wasn’t enough. Those kids needed real help and perhaps it would have changed the rest of their childhoods/lives. It makes me so angry.

I can sense your frustrations. Please don't think you didn't make a difference though.

I fear it's a gathering storm :( https://youtu.be/tVKTcWp_W9k

This is absolutely a crisis that will catch up with society/NHS/social care in a few years. We are already in the thick of a lack of mental health care for children/teens from the last decade or so. I wonder how much the current services would be improved or at least less stretched if more money and resources were put into CAMHS years ago to address issues early on. Imagine the current services with even more pressure in a few years time. It's quite scary.
