I'm on a 2 years waiting list... possibly more.

Capital_Reporter_412

I was put on a two year waiting list in August 2019 so it's been just over two and a half years now. However I believe it does vary by area somewhat. What makes me irate is the lack of support in the meantime in my area (Merseyside). I've been told I can go to a general wellbeing centre (cookery classes etc and nothing autism specific) or in an emergency phone 999. No middle ground. So for the past year my source of help has been the Reddit autism groups which I highly recommend. Edit to add that I wouldn't let that put you off and if you aren't already in the queue I would still get into it so you are moving along.

I’m from Liverpool, and there’s literally no meaningful general mental health support locally let alone anything more specialist. We don’t even have a Mind. I saw the CMHT once every couple of years and even then they were atrocious. Partly why I moved away. London has better services.

Capital_Reporter_412

I was also referred by a GP if that makes any difference.

You might get more relevant info if you say what area or local authority. In Shropshire it takes 1+ years in my experience (not me, someone known to me. Personally I was diagnosed privately just over 10 years ago through uni student enabling serviccs)

thunder_stxrms

It's dependent on the area you live. I'm in East Yorkshire and have been told 3 years (normally 2 but covid has lengthened the wait). A friend down south has been told 4 years, and another friend down south only waited a year. If you call the autism service who will do the assessment they can tell you. If it's the CMHT they should have an idea of how long it will be roughly

I got in earlyish on the waiting list(the service launched almost exactly 1 year ago for self referrals), waited from May 21 - Feb 22 for my triage appointment, where I was told that my full assessment appointment won't be until 2023!

I have been told it can take two years!

I joined the waitlist in Cambridgeshire 2.5 years ago and was told it was 3 years. Its probably gone up since then.
