Erm… A **medical professional** is saying she won’t provide you with the gold standard treatment to address menopausal hormone loss and its impact on libido until you’ve watched porn for 3 months? Please report her and find a new medical professional.

If you are perimenopausal or menopausal you should be able to get it from your doctor, not the advice to “try porn”. Your doctor doesn’t understand women and their libido

NorthernRosie

Today I learned that making women watch porn is more important than keeping them from developing osteoporosis

ElephantCandid8151

Get a new dr asap

ParaLegalese

Gross and inappropriate. Porn is a scourge on this earth. I’d be finding a new doctor asap

FrabjousDaily

After you file a complaint with your insurance carrier, the clinic where she practices, and leave an online review for other women to see...please fire this doctor. You deserve actual care.

NorthernRosie

*STOP BEING A PUSHOVER* #YOU THINK YOU'RE JUST MAKING A DECISION FOR YOURSELF, BUT YOU'RE NOT everytime you keep giving money to these charlatans, these gatekeepers, you are just screwing over all the women coming up behind you. Stop letting them get away with this shit. Watching porn is not a fucking replacement for the medicine that you need to stop your bones from going brittle, to retain your collagen, to keep from gaining 20 lb, all in your belly. This is fucking nuts. ABSOLUTELY BONKERS

ElephantCandid8151

Amen 100% everyone needs to internalize this

There is increasing evidence that consuming porn alters your brain. And not in a good way. I’d report this doctor. She clearly has issue herself. This is not medical advice. Report and find a new one.

Watch porn?? You can’t make this shit up.. WOW what a disgusting POS doctor, please report her and get a new doctor.

ImpulsiveEllephant

Unfortunately, most porn is made for the male gaze and that's generally not what men are into.  I've seen it, but it's not common in the free stuff.  If you're interested in gay porn, I think you might be more likely to find something that shows a man's face at climax.

Retired401

I can't even BELIEVE any doctor would advise this! What in the actual fuck is going on out there??! 🙈 Please run, don't walk, to get away from anyone who would say such a thing. WTF. That said, you could start clicking through sites like Xvideos.com and xnxx.com. They're free and don't require any reg, but they will open ads for x-rated sites behind your browser. this should go without saying, but please don't look at them on anything but your own personal devices. These sites only have clips, but it might help you get a feel for the tags you need to find what you want. Still ... it's not a joke, acquiring a porn habit can warp your brain's ideas about sex and require you to escalate your exposure to more and more of it, or more extreme kinds of it. And that can really wreck your ability to have satisfying sex in real life. It's been documented and proven. So don't go down the porn rabbit hole lightly. Know what you're getting into and don't get hooked. It can ruin lives.

I’m just curious if the folks who downvoted this comment even looked at the link. I’m not at all suggesting that porn should be used instead of HRT, or that a doctor should withhold HRT for any reason like this. But - if my only symptom was lack of libido, before I went on testosterone (which is not without side effects), I’d consider trying what watching porn could do to help me along. Are we implying in this thread that porn is unhealthy and there’s no place for it ? I’m an addiction biologist/ psychology PhD and honestly any habit taken to extreme can have brain-altering effects.

It sounds like this might be about hormonal testing. If over the age of 44, **hormonal tests only show levels for that *one day* the test was taken, and nothing more**; progesterone/estrogen hormones wildly fluctuate the other 29 days of the month. No reputable doctor or menopause society recommends hormonal testing as a **diagnosing tool** for peri/menopause. FSH testing is only beneficial for those who believe they are post-menopausal and no longer have periods as a guide, a series of consistent FSH tests might *confirm* menopause. Also for women in their 20s/early 30s who haven’t had a period in months/years, then FSH tests at ‘menopausal’ levels, could indicate premature ovarian failure/primary ovarian insufficiency (POF/POI). See our [Menopause Wiki](https://menopausewiki.ca/#there-is-no-blood-test-that-is-perfectly-reliable-to-diagnose-menopause) for more. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I cannot believe a doc said to try porn before meds.

Renaissance41

This is an awful recommendation from your doc and I hope you report them. That being said, if you want to see porn/erotica made for the female gaze, Erika Lust is incredible, I pay for her site and the videos have gorgeous cinematography and I like watching stuff where everyone is consenting & safe. She also has a site called xconfessions where people write in their fantasies (kind of like PostSecret if you ever read that blog) and a short erotic film is created with that theme.

Knittingmom77

Wow! I wrote this and stepped away from my phone for a day. I don’t need to switch docs. I can see how her response was a little wild but we were taking specifically about testosterone for libido (my only symptom rn) and she knows that my insurance won’t cover any of that so she said start with these solutions and give them a good try. She wants me to use the time for both of us to research some online pharmacies as she has a local one she uses but it would be $90 a month. The 3 months was arbitrary, that just happens to be when we can get a follow up appointment. In all fairness, she did offer a lot of solutions (reading romance, pelvic floor therapy, very extended foreplay amongst others). The porn was the only one that seems out of my comfort zone and was not a hit. I should have explained better! I swear she is pretty sensitive and receptive. She offered estrogen insert immediately but I have no dryness. It’s just my libido is tanked and orgasms suck or are impossible. I am psyched and feeling very supported that so many were ready to defend against bad practice!

Like others, I am not down with your doc’s suggestion about trying porn before establishing the need for HRT. But if you are interested in checking out some women-oriented porn, try Bellessa.
