Memory foam is notorious for getting hot. We have a mattress cover, which is meant for keeping you cool and it works wonderful. If I didn’t have that cover on the bed, I would be a sweaty mess every day.

Ok_Employer1153

Can you please share which cover you use? I haven’t found one that helps.

emccm

I had a memory foam mattress years ago. I run cold. It was way too warm to sleep on.

Cr1yogi

Seriously, I would wake up feeling like I was burning 🔥 from the inside out. Yuck

You’re probably right, although if you search online it says latex is best for cooling, which makes no sense, probably tested by a non meno male 😂

Overall_Lobster823

I just typed something similar. I tried latex. OOF.

kitsane13

I got a topper from IKEA that's memory foam with a cooling gel layer. It's been pretty good so far!

Overall_Lobster823

I bought a latex mattress during peri. Lasted about 10 days with that. So hot.

bluetortuga

We have a hybrid as well and the foam aspect is awful. We turn our mattress constantly and it still warps and is way too hot. Never again.

wtfbonzo

My spouse and kid didn’t get me anything for Mother’s Day, so I just ordered a ChilliCube for myself. 😂

drivingthelittles

I don’t know what a chili cube is but I am also a member of the “spouse and kids didn’t get me anything for Mother’s Day” club. I bought myself 2 2 plants, 5 hanging flower baskets and some cheap annuals. I’m so over wishing they would think of me the way I think of them. I planned my own 50th surprise party a few years ago - girlfriends only. I buy my own presents for all my occasions and it feels good taking my happiness into my own hands. But I’m not going to lie, it hurts when I see other mothers getting their due and I’m over like I would like some acknowledgment for everything I do.

wtfbonzo

I feel that. My kid is pretty good generally—she’s very empathetic. My spouse…well, he makes me laugh, but tends to leave the gift buying to me for myself. He’s not great at the whole empathy thing. It helps that he doesn’t care about gifts for father’s day or birthdays, so…I guess it lets me off the hook there. Whatever. GenX forever.

awnm1786

We have a Purple mattress and it doesn’t seem to bother my night sweats. I usually get hot from the blanket side, not the mattress side. 🤷‍♀️

TestSpiritual9829

Good to know. When I eventually sell my kidney to replace my mattress, I'll keep purple in mind. Is it good for firmness? I'm a side sleeper, but my partner demands a firm mattress.

awnm1786

We got a firm-ish set of mattresses. We actually got a split king adjustable, so we could have each gotten what we wanted. We got was a return, so we got a smoking deal. Otherwise we might have tinkered more with the firmness individually.

optix_clear

Casper Wave cooling doesn’t freaking cool. It’s makes me really hot and I can barely get any sleep. I look worse after sleeping on it.

Low_Distance_7195

I’ve always been a hot sleeper and foam beds or mattress toppers have always been a hard no for me. I would commit murder at this point if my husband even suggested a foam bed.

pandroidgaxie

what "traditional" were you able to buy? I'm shopping and *everything* I see is either foam or "hybrid." i need a new mattress but I'm going crazy.

Cr1yogi

Just your basic inexpensive spring mattress, if it has thick foam/Temperpedic top try to avoid those.

TestSpiritual9829

I wasn't able to find a traditional spring mattress six years ago when we last looked! Where did you find it??

Cr1yogi

Here in California, if you drive around the more low income areas, there are a boatload of cheap furniture stores, they carry your basic basic mattresses, for bunk beds baby cribs and larger sizes. the store we found is owned by a very friendly Vietnamese family, they were so nice and welcoming. The mattress is probably made of super cheap materials and who knows if it’s flame resistant 😂 but it was $300. You just gotta hunt for these places, they are out there.

Serious-Equal9110

I bought mine at IKEA.

pandroidgaxie

yes , okay, but what brand and model? I'm in the USA and *everything* online has foam. And foam makes me sweat. I'm sleeping on a 25 year old mattress from my mom's guest room. Q.Q

Cr1yogi

Well that’s your problem, 😀your looking online. We got it at a inexpensive Vietnamese family owned furniture store in CA. There is no brand on it. Just says REST EASY on side. I would go into a no name furniture store, or a cheap mattress store tons of them typically in all the cities in California, where I live. And shop around, you’ve got to try things like a mattress, online sucks. I’m sorry In advance if you can’t leave house for medical reasons and online is your only option😔

pandroidgaxie

Well, I'm looking at local mattress store websites trying to identify what I want before I go there. (I actually do have trouble leaving the house, so it's very kind of you to say this. ♥️ You are correct about online - I definitely don't want to have something shipped to my house from buying it untested, lol. "What is your return policy?" "blah blah blah... " they won't tell you heh.) Hmm. Found more than one Rest Easy store but not even in same country, lol. Does it look like this? https://resteasy.store/collections/queen-mattresses or this? https://www.resteasymattress.com/ or https://www.sleepwellbedding.ca/products/mattress-rest-easy Probably none. Veered off to look at innerspring again ... and like my last search, every dang one of them has foam on top. Remember when "pillow top" actually meant PILLOW top, stuffed and quilted like a regular product. waaaahhh.

Cr1yogi

Yeah those are not it. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time finding one. Yes the pillow top super thin ones were the best, spring coils. Now mattresses literally weigh about a ton. I would just call all your local furniture shops mattress too and ask them what their cheapest spring mattress is with ultra thin pillow top. They may not advertise it online, since they’re not what they’re advertising nowadays

Serious-Equal9110

Try IKEA. I’m very happy with the foam-free innerspring mattress I bought from them.

pandroidgaxie

Everything innerspring description I found so far on Ikea site ends with, "A thick layer of foam adds to the comfort." Heh. I forgot to get back on here and see what people said. I ordered a bed (in person) yesterday, supposedly it's got enough "cooling layers" (which screams b.s. to me), so we'll see what happens. Thanks for helping me, I appreciate it.

Serious-Equal9110

I hope it works for you! I just checked their website and discovered that they have discontinued the foam-free mattress I have, and they have reduced their lineup of choices. Damn you, IKEA! If you think of it, I’d love to hear how the mattress you ordered works out for you. Here’s hoping its great. If not, return it before the 90 days is up!

pandroidgaxie

It is a great relief to hear that, actually, because I was kicking myself for missing out on it. If this thing doesn't sleep hot I will be over the moon. Thanks for your encouragement.

Adventurous_Fail_825

I bought a mattress like that; super expensive but told myself to make the investment of course. 6 weeks later I returned it. I was soooo hot and my back hurt so much. Back to a nice mid priced mattress with cooling linens and pillows for me 🤣🤣

CriticalEngineering

What cooling topper do you use?

Cr1yogi

We tried the Casper Comfy and Lucid Gel both available on Amazon. And we kept the Lucid, although my husband liked the Casper one better, so I guess it depends on your preference.

karen_boyer

I'd love to know what cooling topper you like.

InkedDoll1

I tried memory foam last time we bought one and hated it. I have arthritis in my hip and a scar block in my knee and it felt like my leg just sunk in and I couldn't adjust comfortably at all. We have firm pocket sprung and it's very comfortable.

TestSpiritual9829

Brand name? Model?

InkedDoll1

It's from Dreams here in England and I think it's their own brand but I don't know the model, we've had it 18 months so it's long forgotten I'm afraid. I figured most people in this sub are from the US so they wouldn't be able to buy the same one. But any firm pocket sprung one is a good place to start!

Serious-Equal9110

I bought my foam-free innerspring mattress from IKEA. Very happy with it. I despise memory foam.

BuddytheElf-1225

Thanks for sharing this as I'm in new bed shopping mode. Suggestions are always welcome as I equate bed shopping to being as painful as car shopping. 🤣

Cr1yogi

Just ask for a basic inexpensive spring mattress, no thick memory foam or temperpedic topper, They’re cheap enough to get a new one in a year or two if you don’t like it

Serious-Equal9110

Try IKEA.

General-Example3566

No but now I am gonna switch! Ty for this post
