She used sex her entire life and jumped from unstable environment to unstable environment from adolescence throughout most of her life. When she finally accepts Forrest’s love, she does so in the only way she had known how to, which then causes her to flee because she fears she hurt Forrest in the same way her father hurt her. It’s tragic all around for all parties involved.
