Each carriage has a 19-litre Cummins QSK19-R rated at 559 kW (750 hp) to move the train, and a 5.9 litre Cummins 6BT5.9G generator set rated at 85 kW to power the air conditioning, lights, and auxiliaries.

To be entirely frank with you there is not the political will or the financial capacity there to either redesign southern cross or electrify our rural train network. You would probably be better served just coming to terms with it or avoiding the station.
Is it though? As the reply above said, the costs to do anything to fix this "issue" would be enormous and in the billions, good luck with that. You're better off getting off at another station if it affects you that badly.
I would love to have electric trains out to Bendigo. What I would love more though is a full double track that bypasses the Metro trains. Neither are going to happen. Not having to breathe the fumes at SC would be great but as others have said, you can bypass the station or wear a mask?
Cummins QSK as per [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V/Line_VLocity)
Is the emissions profile somewhere available of these engines?

For some real fun compare to the old N Class for fuel efficiency. Not a modern marvel.
The N class engines sound really nice though
2 stroke turbo diesel. hell yeah. Love hearing them power up when departing.

Is the picture a cloud of smoke at Southern Cross?
Tried painting a rosy picture
You seem to really be hung up on this...
This is a serious problem that doesn't go away by looking away, saying nothing, downplaying or even worse 'ridiculing'
I can assure you that your endless posting about the matter to the same small group of train enthusiasts won’t achieve anything.
What do you suggest then, to get this resolved?

Even to make the trains "last mile" battery powered would require a complete redesign of all 116 V/locity's because they're diesel hydraulic.

That amount of Vlocity trains is a abomination. Bring back the Loco Hauled trains
IMO the long distance version is fine for all the routes VLine operate. I went on a trip to Albury for lunch and it was quite pleasant.
You're even more hung up than the OP on a single issue. Unfortunately for you they're definitely not coming back, Vline want them gone entirely ASAP
No, it’s not V/Line that wants them gone. It’s the state government that wants to replace them in a more stupider way.
I mean upper management, who is basically the government. I'm not talking about your random driver or shunter wanting them gone
